T400 screen flashes then goes black
As the thread title says, my lenovo t400's screen recently started flashing. It wasn't that bad at first but it increased in frequency and started to be very annoying. I noticed changing from battery to cable would temporarily stop it, also turning down the brightness helped.
However the problem started getting worse and now when I am forced to have it on the lowest brightness settings. If I turn it up it starts flashing erratic and then the screen turns off. The system itself keeps working though and if I turn the laptop off or in sleep mode and then turn it on again the screen "works" again (still with flashing). Ofcourse if I left the brightness above its lowest level it will instantly go black again.
Also most likely related, half of the screen (left side) has taken on an "redish" collor.
What could be the problem and is it something I can fix myself?

On the back it says type: 6474-B84. I assume you mean that?
And yes if I were to shine on the screen with a flashlight I can see the content.
Correct, these are the original specs of the machine:
ThinkPad T400 (6474-B84):
P8600(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
I can think of three possibleculprits, LCD cable defective, inverter defective or LCD panel's backlight defective. The cable and the inverter will be cheaper to replace, the panel will be more pricey I guess, (I don't know the current LCD panel prices).
T400's came with standard CCFL and LED screens. You need to find out which one you have. You can try the part lookups page from Lenovo and follow the instructions here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_CH/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page?
(You need the machine type and your serial number, please don't post the serial number here in the forum)
P.S.: If you have a LED screen cluprits could be the cable or the panel, no inverters there AFAIK)

Screen flickers then goes black
Hello. Having a problem with the display on our 15" 1.25 G-4. After using it awhile, the screen starts looking like a strobe light then goes to all black. Closing the lid, letting it sleep for a bit waking later will then get it working. I've reset the PMMU, but haven't run the hardware checks because the disks are gone.
Any thoughts? Hardware? Driver?
ThanksI suspect that it could be the inverter board which controls the backlight. I just had mine replaced after similar symptoms.

Ipod screen flashes then goes blank
My iPod initially flashes, when turning on. You can see the time, or the apple, but it then goes blank. I don't believe the LCD screen is shot, or it wouldn't flash. How do I fix it?

Screen flashes then goes blank - S2012 13" Air
When I start up my new Air, the screen will sometimes flash bright white/gray then go completely blank as if it fell asleep. The keyboard lights are still on at this point. This will happen after several restarts. Is there a software fix, or is a Genius visit in my near future?

Screen flashes and then goes black after CPU load
Yesterday morning I upgraded my MacBook Pro 6,2 (Mid 2010) to OS X Lion. Since then I've been having issues while performing CPU-not-too-intensive tasks. Every once in a while my screen flashes for a split second and then turns completely black. The MBP is unresponsive so I'm forced to shut it down using the power button.
At first i though this was a Lion issue. However, it has happened again just now while I was on Windows through BootCamp. I was checking my e-mail and performing some other mundane tasks for about an hour, and then while trying to copy some files to an external Hard Drive my screen flashed and went black.
Hardware issue then??
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's already happened 4-5 times right when I pressed Cmd+D to bookmark a site on Safari. What the heck? That isn't even a CPU load.

Rented film from Apple TV fully downloaded (eventually) press play now then screen goes to authorizing for 10 mins, then goes black blank, no film , repeated process 3 times, still no joy. first and last time I rent a film with Apple, how do I get my money back ? Thanks
First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion. To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4. What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content. Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems. You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults. A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install. If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive. -

Computer boots with Apple logo then goes black
So my MacBook Pro boots up withe the Apple logo then goes black as if the it is set on the lowest dim setting, you can just barely make out the icons on the screen so it is booting into the log on screen. I tried brightness, I tried holding down shift, you get a flash of blue then goes black. I tried the startup disk it starts up and goes black, you can just make out the outline of the language selection on the startup disk.
Any suggestions.1. Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down apple/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.
2. Boot holding down Apple/S and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
fsck -fy
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - run the command again and keep doing so (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
reboot -

My screen keeps on going black.
My iphone 4 screen keeps on going black but im able to screenshot, so i know it on. So i have to keep on rebooting my phone nearly everyday, does anyone know what's wrong with my phone?
Hi Megan,
For issues with your iPhone display going black, I would suggest starting with the steps in this article -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Specifically under Display has no backlight or dark screen -
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Hp w2338h monitor stays on for about a sec then goes black and will not come back on
When I turn my computor on the monitor will only stay on for about a sec and then goes black. I can turn monitor off and on and it does the same thing. A new motherboard and been installed and computer works well with other monitors. Was using upgraded video card which has been removed and using orginal video card that came with computer. The monitor started acting up and before new board installed and would come on when monitor was turned off and then on. Now it just stays black after being rebooted or turned on. Can anyone help or have any ideas what could be the problem?
Hi charlezr,
I see that your monitor goes blank after you start up the computer, and I would be happy to assist you! To begin, I will need to ask you a few questions:
What is the Product and Model Number of your desktop computer and monitor?
What version of Windows do you have installed on your computer?
Is this an on-going, or recent issue?
In the meantime, I recommend following this document on when the Monitor or TV is Blank after Starting the Computer. This should help you determine if the blank screen is being caused by the computer hardware, the video signal to the monitor, or the monitor itself.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

When I charge my ipod, the apple symbol comes up as if it was turning on, then it goes black and repeats the process. Sometimes it gets to where I have to put in my 4 digit code to unlock it then goes black, any suggestions on why it does this?
Does it work OK otherwise?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Try another cable and USB port and/or charging source
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
