T400 Screen Issue - Half Dark

I have been having issues with my screen /backlight in the last month. I actually took a video of the problem hoping it would give you a better idea of what's going on.
I have a WXGA LED screen 1280x800 w/ camera and keyboard light. T400 purchased Dec 2009.
Symptoms:
- Right side of the screen is visible but a lot darker than the left
- Adjusting brightness does not work on either side when it is like that
- Sometimes screen will flicker ever so lightly
- Sometimes screen will go completely dark, but text is barely visible if you look at point blank range (backlight issue?)
- Closing the screen for sleep mode and then awakening will fix the problem, sometimes for extended periods (hours), sometimes for seconds
- When the screen is working properly, changing brightness works; however adjusting to darkest setting will only yield a darker right side, and no change on the left
- Sensitive to movement; if the screen is working, moving the laptop around or adjusting the screen will cause right side to go dim or all to go dark.
Is the problem the led screen, backlight, connection, motherboard or something else?

Yesterday I decided to open up the lcd assembly to examine and copy down the exact part # of my led sub card and lcd screen. I thought it had to be the sub card or lcd panel. But as i observed b4, the lcd would work fine for hours as long as the laptop was on a stable flat surface, which led me to believe the lcd should be ok.
Anyways, after removing the front and back bezels, I detached and reattached the led sub card. Then I visually inspected the lcd panel. Everything looked fine.
I turned it on and lo and behold, the screen has been working perfectly for the last 24 hrs. No dimness, no blackout.
My conclusion is that perhaps one or both connections on the led sub card were not seated properly. Anyways, I will continue to observe and hopefully, everything is fine now, knock on wood.

Hello All,
I picked up a T400 way back in the summer, but I had just recently noticed that there're a patch of bright pixels near the bottom left of my screen. I have the WXGA+ LED backlight screen. The pixels aren't dead as they still still show colour and whatnot, they're just...really bright. The difference in brightness is most noticable on white/light colour backgrounds.
I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before, and if it'll be something covered under warrenty.
As well. has anyone else noticed that the keyboard presses against the LCD when closed? after a while i noticed keyboard imprints on my screen. Luckily I've been able to clean off the prints with screen cleaner and a microfibre cloth. I'm just slightly worried about issues further down the road.
Anyway, Thanks in advance guys, I'll try to get pictures of the bright patches soon.

can you post a link of the pictures that shows this defect, if it is not user induced it maybe covered under warranty, but you would need to call Lenovo service in regard to the actual condition to the warranty coverage.

GE70 Screen issues on dark colours

Hi guys,
(sorry if this is a simple fix and i'm being an idiot)
My GE70 laptop is 4 months old. Recently, when the screen displays dark colours there is a slight flickering/ wave effect visible. Is this likely to be a hardware problem with the screen? or something to do with the graphics options?

I don't agree. It would be very surprising if it didn't have that problem with the website linked. I've tried it on every monitor that I have, including some professional grade (for digital graphics design) and they all exhibit the issue depending on the conditions. This is inherent with LCD/LED technology. All monitors, to some degree, have the issue. Some just don't show it as much as others. Brightness, position on screen, even as far as what colors the rest of the screen are, play a huge part in how evident the problem is.
I'm sure on some monitors is might be worse, others it might not be.
But fullscreen on my monitors that I have here, I always have at least 1 single box that is flickering in some way. Position on screen, how large the window is, etc....all play a big part in this as well. I could change which box was flickering by just move the window a little bit on screen.
Without knowing to the full extent what the problem is (are you seeing all the boxes flickering? or just 2? Or just 1 at a time?), we can't provide much help here.
What I would do is contact MSI about it, if it's that much of an issue for you.

Lenovo T400 screen goes dark issue, some video driver problem

Problem/Issue:
Driver problem appeard after upgrading from XP to Windows 7.
From the Device Manager I saw that ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 was not working properly and
a) I did the "update driver software." After restart the screen light was darker than usual. (This was usual if I was working from battery but I was plugged in this time. )
As I'm not the best with computers I thought my drivers might be in conflict and to prevent serious damages, I just
b) disabled ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 from device manager.
This actually resolved the dark screen problem.
c) then I went to Lenovo support site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-72858
downloaded newest drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 (Switchable Graphics Driver)
and Intel 4500MHD (Intel GM45 Express Chip)
For some reason while installine the: Intel GM45 Display Driver (version 8.15.10.2302) gives me error:
"This Computer Does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"
Also some problem appeard when installing the new downloaded version:
ThinkPad Switchable Graphics Driver (version 8.792.5-110424b-119200C)
d) so I went back to device manager and made an update to ATI Mobility Radeon from there.
Well, I got it working, but the screen went dark again. When I disable the driver it goes back to normal
brightness and when I enable it again, it stays normal.
I'll try to restart and see what happens

We had the excat same issue.
I could get the picuture back pressing the power button until it went to sleep and then wake it up again.
After the I went to device manager to delete all display drivers both Intel and ATI and then reboot.
doing the reboot windows found some drivers it could use.
I then installed the switchable driver from lenovo.
Now windows device manger report two display drivers:
1)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series, Version 8.792.5.2000, Driver manufacturer ATI Technologies Inc
2)
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family, Version, Version 8.792.5.2000, Driver manufacturer ATI Technologies Inc
So it seams the switchable ATI driver take over the Intel card and the Intel driver is not needed.
At least the problem is solved for us.

After reviewing your post, it sounds like the display is not working correctly. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Brightness or color isn't uniform
If you have an older display, before evaluating the display for uniformity in lighting or color, the display may need to warm up. Older LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays) use CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent) backlights. This kind of lighting may require several minutes to half an hour to warm up fully.

Screen is suddenly half dark. How do I fix it

Never had problem before. Screen said something about temperature hot. I left it alone and came back to the screen half dark on left side portrait ways. Can I fix?

YOu can try to reset your iPad. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple let go and let it reboot. However I think you should also prepare yourself for the possibility that your ipad has/is dying. if part of the insides are gone or broken, then the device is done for.

T400s Screen Color Issue

Anyone have a color-mismatch issue? T400s screen is at factory default but the colors are definitely different from desktop screen rendering. Have tested photographs on different screens and the T400s is much cooler (less red). Also, hypertext links are a lighter blue on the T400s vs. more blue/purple on the desktop monitor. This has been tested on a Samsung desktop monitor, a MacPro laptop, a Dell desktop monitor. All are the same except for the T400s.
Any comments are appreciated!

MSI GX701 X - Dark Screen Issue

Hello everyone, I have MSI GX701 X laptop for a year or so and I'm having the following issue:
Last night I was using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS x64, I accidently closed my laptop and after that it was hibernating, I think, and I tried to start it up again even though I had some problems after a few tries it actually booted up and I choose Ubuntu from Dual Boot menu again. I entered Ubuntu and everything was completely normal, after 20 minutes I shut it down and everything was as usual. I woke up this morning and tried to turn on my laptop, from the start everything was dark, including the MSI logo and the boot menu. I choose Windows 7 from the boot menu and it started up but the screen is soo dark that I can barely see the login screen, I tried with Ubuntu and it was the same, I almost can't see a thing.
What could be the problem here, I was reading on some forums and people who had this issue flashed their BIOS, should I do that? Or maybe upgrade it?
I have a warranty so I can send it to MSI but I want to try to correct the problem alone first. It's definitely a hardware error and I'm not so skilled with hardware so I'm asking you. Thank you in advance.

T400 screen is dark

I believe after much research that my inverter has gone bad, orangish screen that goes dark 90% of the time. Works fine hooked up to a monitor.
My question is that looking on ebay there appears to be two different styles of inverter. One that is a ribbon and the other is a wider, narrower piece. How would I confirm which piece I need? Also, how would I get a copy of the manual to install it?
If anyone thinks that I have misdiagnosed, please let me know. I figure I will try this before a new screen.

Ibook screen has gone dark

I'm helping a friend with a G4 i-book, about 3 years old I think. Today, while working on it, the screen went black. I think it may have gone to sleep but I cannot know for sure. I pressed the F2 key checking to see if he had somehow turned down the brightness but no change. I took it to the window and can see the computer is awake. Using the light, and turning the laptop at a side angle, I can see folders, etc. I went to the dock and found system preferences and clicked on display. The brightness was about half way so I turned it up but the screen stayed just as dark, almost impossoble to see anything. We shut it down and restarted it and while I can see it is on and awake, the screen is so dark you cannot possibly use it or see what is there without holding it up to light with an odd angle.
I did do a search by many of the posts were about flickering or flashing dark. His screen has gone dark and while I can see things if I 'peer' carefully, the screen is black all the time.
Any suggestions?

Hey Michelle,
Most certainly this is a inverter cable issue. Usually they open up near the hinge point. I've repaired two that this happened to. I have also seen two that shorted to ground and took out a tiny fuse on the logic board so after I repaired the short I had to bridge the fuse w/ a fuse link.
Try moving the display up and down while it's on. If it comes on it's most certainly that cable.

Laptop screen just goes dark and i have to cold boot

My Macbook Pro 2.66Ghz i7, running 10.8 keeps crashing, in various programmes and its getting annoying.
The screen just goes dark but the lights stay on on the keyboard (if thats any help) and i have to cold boot.

Hi, Wobble Woo.
The repeated kernel panic you're experiencing is a common issue on the mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15". I have the same laptop and the same issue. It's caused by the descrete graphics card. One solution, albeit a bit disappointing and temporary, is to use an application called gfxCardStatus. It runs in the statusbar and tells you which GPU is running. You can use the application to set your laptop to use the integrated GPU only, which will put an end to your kernel panics. But if you are using applications which require heavy graphics (such as photoshop and most video games), you'll just have to count your luck.
Some other users have had their motherboard successfully replaced. Take it to an Apple Store and ask them to run a GPU test. They should find the error (a manufacture defect, it seems) and replace your motherboard, with or without warranty. I hope this helps.

Screen is "half out." Anyone seen this before, anything I can do?

I am a first time contributor to the Apple Support Communities. I have a 2006/2007 era MacBook pro that the screen is half out. I would like to get this fixed for my wife to use as her desktop, but I would like some guidance before I take it into a Genius Bar. Has anyone seen this before? Is it an easy (inexpensive) fix or is it not worth it (given the age of the machine). Any help would be beneficial. The machine runs awesome, I can use it, as long as i use the top 1/3rd of the screen.

If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step... Be sure to make an appointment first...

My Laptop screen has gone Dark

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z500, Intel I7, 3612QM, 6GB Ram with an Nvidia GT740M Graphic Card.
My display was absolutely fine, till I installed Windows 8.1. After a few minutes of working properly, the laptop screen went dark.
I have installed all available updates for Windows, and have also updated the drivers for the graphics card, however the screen is still dark.
Kindly suggest a way to fix this
