T400 shuts down when connected to external display
I have a visiting user , who has a T400 6475-BD7 ( i believe) that blue screens whenever connected to an external display.
I have updated the BIOS, Video driver ( Intel) and Presentation manager, but the problems still remains
any one has a similar experience, or perhaps a resolution?
Hi,
I have a similar issue intermittenly when I plug in an external monitor to my T400 Type 6473-T3A with Windows XP3. Only that mine didnt shutdown. I get BSOD!
From the URL, MS website return the result as;
"Install this update to resolve an issue in which you receive a 0x0000008e Stop error after you install security update KB954211 (MS08-061)." But it doesnt seems to be referring to the experience that I am experience. Would you be able to provide the KB number? I have tried searching MS website but yield no result. Thank you.
Sorry. Found it. KB954211 causes the BSOD and KB959252 solves the problem caused by KB954211.

2011 MBP shuts down when connected to external display
I've been using my 2011 15" MBP for about a week now with no problem until today when I tried to connect it to my old 20" cinema display. I have the mini display port hooked up to the dvi adapter and a usb connection hooked up to external keyboard and mouse. Everything works just fine if I keep the lid up on the MBP, but if I shut the lid, the MBP shuts down. Down, not that the big screen goes black & then comes on again. It turns itself off.
Any way I can avoid a trip to the Apple store? In the past, the "geniuses" knew less about external displays than I did. Is there an issue because of the dual graphics cards?no - I realized later that the machine doesn't shut off it just acts like it. The hard drive stops spinning & the screen remains black no matter what I do. This doesn't happen when I just shut the lid & then go back to working on it.
Then if I shut it again & try to get the monitor to respond, I get a blue screen of death color with a two inch band of blue noise along the left side. Very weird. -
Cannot change display resolution when connected to external display
On my 2.0GHz 13" MacBook, I have no problem with the display resolution when connecting to external display/projector when I am running in Mac OS, everything work perfectly! But things start to get messy when I am running in Windows VISTA 32 (installed within the Boot Camp 2.1). Whenever I connect to any external display/projector via a MiniDisplay-to-VGA cable, the resolutions on both my MacBook LCD and external display/projector drop to 640x480. And i am not able increase the resolution in the Display Settings. Does this mean that I have not installed the latest version of display drivers? Or is it that Apple did not provide the VISTA 32 drivers (in Boot Camp 2.1) that is compatible with the Mini Display port.
Cool!
I'm glad you have it fixed.

MBP shuts down when connecting to power
Since a week or two, my MacBookPro from early 2011 shuts down when connecting the magsafe to power. Also when starting up again it will start up fine and fast from battery, but I need to hold the power button for several seconds when connected to power.
Another problem I had earlier as well is CPU (kernel task) of over 90%, which I now see clearly, only occurs when connected to power. I used to solve this problem by putting the MBP to sleep, but now, when put to sleep, it will shut down.
When on battery, I have no CPU problem and can put machine to sleep without a problem.
I recently started uploading everything to dropbox, and activate caffeine to make sure it will keep uploading. My computer will run for days on power combined with caffeine, but is as slow as **** because of a >90% CPU.
The battery has had a notification for maybe a year, that it needed service, so today I finally bought and installed a new battery, but the problem is not solved. Is this software or could it be my magsafe adapter? Thanks for you help.It sounds like a problem with the power management inside your MBP. I suggest you call Apple to make an appointment at your local Apple store for them to check it out for you.

No WIFI when connected to External Display
When I connect MBA to a Dell 2405FPW monitor, wifi gets a "connection timeout".
When I disconnect external display, wifi works - all this with the same wifi point.
I took MBA to the apple store, they connected the MBA to their displays and it works. This is very stressful since I cannot take the dell monitor to the apple store - Its where I work.
I also tested the MBA on a newer 24" dell monitor(At work) with same output. My only result was turninng to a less dimension monitor - works fine(again, all with the same wifi point). Is there a limitation when connecting MBA to external monitors - MBA? Again, very frustrating dealing with this issue. My previous MBP had no issues with this dell monitor. Any recommendations will be appreciated.Alexander - I have a MBA 1.6 HDD and have been experiencing the same problem as you have. I connect via micro DVI to a 23" Apple Cinema Display and have been losing transmission speed or connection altogether with my Airport Extreme.
I have been reading the posts regarding this issue and found a link to this article on maximizing wireless connectivity with an external display and MBA: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307295.
After reading the article and trying different settings, I found that my Airport was set to channel 11 and if I set it to 6 I stopped having connectivity issues and was able to work without incident. Give it a try - I hope it works for you. -
X200 hangs during restart or shut down when connected to ultrabase
My X200 hangs during a Windows restart or shut down when I'm connected to my ultrabase. The laptop appears to go through most of the processes to restart/shut down but eventually hangs at a blue screen with unmoveable cursor (note, not a Windows BSOD). I'm forced to perform a hard shut down to turn off the laptop.
This hang at restart/shut down only occurs when I'm connected to the ultrabase.Just as a thing to try, and this is assuming that you all have an integrated camera, please try this camera driver and let the board know the results:

T400 Shuts down when plugging in monitor with VGA
My T400 shuts down instantly when I plug I my monitor (Dell WA2209). If I shut down the computer, and then try starting the computer with the monitor plugged in, the computer shuts down almost instantly after I press the power button. In each case, I have to unplug the computer, and remove the battery, before I can try turning the computer on again. I have installed the latest power manager, video drivers and bios. On the odd occasion, I am able to plug in my monitor without the computer shutting down. This happens when using integrated and discrete graphics. It worked for almost a year just fine, and just recently started doing this. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

My dvd drive freezes when connected to external display
when i run a DVD normally it seems to run fine but when i connect it to a projector via a VGA cable it runs for about 10 min and then it freezes. i have to restart my laptop to get it to run again. once i do that IM back to square one in a few mins again. i am using a cooling mat and am wondering if there is anything i can do. my os is vista
Connecting an external monitor/display turns on the high-performance graphics adapter which can generate significant heat. The base-plate can get pretty hot (Apple states this and for this reason says to not use the MacBook Pro on your lap. They don't even refer to them as laptops.). Just make sure that nothing is blocking the cooling ports under the display hinge. If the MacBook Pro actually overheats, it will shut down. So, don't worry yet.

Auto shut-down when connecting USB-units (on some units..)
Hi there.. i just bought this mainboard :
MSI K9N Platinum, nForce 570 Ultra, DDR2, Socket-AM2,2xGbLAN,Firew, ATX, PCI-Ex16
Version :
MS-7250
I have read the "shut down" issues from the sticky topics in this forum, and i want to know if this is the same issue...
Here we go :
I have approx 3-4 connected usb units which works perfectly well..
- My 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless USB Adapter
- My wireless keyboard
- A usb memory stick..
These work perfectly well..
I also have a Lacie USB 2.0 External Harddrive which works ok enough sometimes.. but it's kinda unstable..
What doesn't work at all.. is my Sony Ericsson W950i when i connect it to _any_ usb port on my computer..
What happens :
When i insert the usb-cable into the phone.. and win xp (pro sp2) detects the phone, it immidiately shuts down the pc.
Sometimes i have to unplug the power cable for about... 20 seconds to get it to boot again at all.. but most times it's enough to boot as normal.
Is there _anything_ i can do to fix this ? ... or.. do i have to get a replacement motherboard (newer version)..
PS !!!
*I also tried to flash tie bios (the windows way), but after pressing the "start" button for flashing.. nothing happens.. nothing at all.. Weird
Any ideas on this is rewarded with a digital beer
Best regards
Terje.-..-I'll provide some more (a LOT) of information..
It's part of the report from Everest Ultimate Edition...
I have read thorugh all the posts regarding the USB-trouble (which you linked).. but it's not the same problem as i have (atleast it doesn't seem so..)
I didn't connect anything to the 10'th pin (USBOC)..
--> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=57472.0
As you see from this log.. some usb-units are already listed there.. and a lot of other usb units works perfectly well..
It's just a external harddrive, and my phone (both USB connectors) which shuts down my pc...

Problem waking MacBook Pro when connected to external display
I have the new 13" MacBook Pro and like to use it connected to an external VGA display (Xerox) with the MacBook Pro in closed clamshell mode. The problem I am having is that after working for a a few hours, when I put the Mac to sleep with mains power connected, usb keyboard connected and the external display connected (via mini display to VGA adapter), the Mac will sometimes refuse to wake. I have a wireless Mighty Mouse also and the Mac is set to wake with Bluetooth devices. When I click a key on the keyboard or click the mouse a few times the pulsing sleep light at the front of the Mac goes solid but nothing appears on the external display. If I open the MacBook Pro the solid light goes out but the Mac does not respond. If I close the MacBook Pro display, the solid light comes on again. I have no option but to force a restart. This is an intermittent problem. I have yet to have this happen when no external display is connected.
I have the exact same problem.
Here's my story:
To give you some backgroud, my setup involves having the macbook on a mstand hooked up to an external monitor. I run a usb hub from my macbook, this is where my mouse transceiver is plugged in. I use am Apple wireless bluetooth keyboard (latest slim model)
I recently purchased the 13.3' inch 2.26 MBP as I gave my older 2.0 uMB to a family member. The computer is in the stock configuration with no hardware upgrades.
I have noticed weird behaviour when waking the computer from sleep when the lid is closed. When i wake the computer up (by tuning on bt keyboard), the keyboard light blinks like there is not bt connection and the computer will wake in an inactive state. The led light will be on, but when i flip the screen up....nothing. Screen is dark, keyboard pressing does not illicit any responses. I have to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button to restart the computer. Unfortunately any previous data or work is lost.
I work in IT so I completed troubleshooting and also things outlined on forums in google. Reset PRAM, reset SMC and also reinstalled OSX. Still I get the same result. Fearing I purchased a defective unit, I called Apple and they told me i could exchange the computer so I dropped by the apple store and exchanged it quite easily.
I've spent hours restoring from time machine and I am experiencing the same issue on my new laptop. I'm now assuming its not hardware but more firmware related as I had to do a bluetooth firmaware upgrade when I bought the computer when I checked for software updates.
Is anyone else having any wake issues with their new MBPs? And what should I do next? Should I exchange for a 3rd unit? Thanks for you help everyone. -
Cannot sleep or shut down when connected to TV through DVI
I recently reinvigorated my 2003 Power Mac G5 (Power PC) with a clean install of OSX Leopard and connected it to my TV via a VGA cable and DVI adapter. I soon discovered the computer would not sleep or shut down with the TV connected:
- Selecting "sleep" from apple menu, OR
- Pressing sleep button on original ADC monitor (with both monitors connected,) OR
- Waiting for 15 minute automatic sleep mode:
computer sleeps (tower clicks off as normal) but immediately wakes again
- Selecting "shut down" from apple menu:
computer shuts down completely but immediately reboots
When the G5 runs on only the original monitor, sleep and shutdown commands work as expected.
Aside from unplugging the DVI adapter every time I want to sleep or shut down, is there a solution to this problem?I've seen the TV problem before, not sure there is a cure, but perhaps one of these...
