T400 switchable graphic problem

Dear Jhem,
The model of T400 I have is 2768-AA6.
I have some questions on the switchable graphic card function:
1.Under device manager are we suppose to see two GPU installed or just the active one? I can only see the active one. But most ppl around me who have T400 can see both two GPU. Is there anything wrong with my machine?
2. The automatic hot switchable function is not available at all. I remember the switchable function is that when we use battery the computer can choose integrated graphic card while when we use AC adaptor the computer can switch to discrete graphic automatically. However, no mater what power source I use to power up the computer, the integrated graphic card is selected. The only way I can use ATI graphic card is get into BIOS----->disable switchable function------->select discrete graphic card and then restart computer.
Are these common problem for T400? They make me very unhappy as the most attractive function of this model cannot be use at all.
Thanks a lot!

Anyone can help?
Thanks!

  • W7/64-bit on W500 - Switchable Graphics problem

    Hi,
Did a clean install Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) on my Thinkpad W500 (4062-3CG).
Having problem with "ThinkPad Switchable Graphics Driver for Windows 7".
ATI driver won't load, so default Intel chipset is used with poor graphics as a result.
I have also tried "Windows 7 BETA Drivers and Utilities" with no luck.
Yesterday the graphics worked for a short period of time, that was after remoting my Thinkpad with RDP? very strange. But after reboot graphics was back to non functional again.
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    Johan

Did you apply Lenovo driver packages in any specific order? Don't really understand what I missed?
My plan was to do a "clean" W7/64 install and after that run ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 for latest drivers.
In my case ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 could not start without Access Help for Windows 7 installed, that was the first dependency problem.
However, after that ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 run successfully and everything works fine but the ThinkPad Switchable Graphics Driver for Windows 7.
The ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 applied latest updates for everything including the BIOS. When I try to run BIOS update separately for getting around the graphics problem it says BIOS version is OK and no update needed.
Tried to disable Switchable Graphics in BIOS-setup using Discrete but that does not fix my problem?

  • Noob Question: T400 Switchable Graphics?

Just got my T400 this weekend, and I have a question about the switchable graphics feature.
I can't actually find any way to control the switchable graphics.  I see the different battery life options and that type of thing, but is there anything that actually says SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS?
I was looking in the Power Manager app but found nothing.
I did go into the BIOS at startup and verified that I do have this option.
Can anyone help a noob out?

  • GX60 Switchable Graphics Problem

Hi, I bought a GX60 Notebook (with A10-4600M, HD7970 graphics), and installed a Win 8 Pro x64 copy I got from my Univ. I proceeded to install the drivers and it seems everything is working fine...
Well, it only seems so - when I open AMD Catalyst and click on "Switchable Graphics Application Settings", the window just disappears.
When I try to open "Configure Switchable Graphics" from tray, nothing happens.
    What could be the problem?
    Edit:
I have already tried AMD Catalyst 12.10 and 12.11

Well i get the window but only the configure button are  reachable with a slider and slide to the far right of the screen . I guess the drivers are still a bit buggy , did u try  the latest 12.11 beta drivers for guru3d forums?(im not allowed to post externals links so i cant link it to you)

  • Switchable Graphics problem Aspire E15 E5-551G-T629

Hello, I've got a Aspire E15 E5-551G-T629, and the switchable graphics dont seem to work. I've tried several drivers, googled for hours and tried several methods even had the PC in for service for this and some other things and they said all was OK after the service. However the AMD r7 M265 won't be used no matter what.
Any idea what I can do to make this work? Because currently my pc is running games worse than my 6 year old 400 dollar laptop. (Not that gaming is the main objective here, but I'd like to be able to use the full power of my pc when required)
    Cheers in advance

Thanks for your reply, but I have gone through every setting and changed what I could change. Here is what I have done: - Changed windows power settings to always be maximum- made sure acer epower management was the same- changed global settings in Catalyst to always be maximum (including battery on all of those)- manually added the games that weren't working and set them to high performance- added the games that weren't working to the 3d settings profiles- updated the drivers- updated the BIOS ...and probably more that I am forgetting, since I have been researching and tweaking settings for three days now. There are some games that it will automatically pick up, but the two games that I play the most (and that are the reason I spent extra money for a dedicated card) will only run off of the Intel. The most aggravating thing was that when I purchased this computer, I had no idea that it even had two graphics cards. The website only listed the AMD, and my previous laptop only had a dedicated Radeon card so I thought it must be the same. Why would it not list two cards if it had two? So when I had problems initially I didn't realize it was because the game was running off integrated graphics, so I was looking into other things. By the time I discovered it was the laptop itself causing the problems it was too late to return it.

  • Radeon HD 6490m Switchable Graphics Problems

    Hello.
My notebook has been really sluggish lately, especially when browsing the internet, gaming or photo editing. It started a few weeks ago... never had any problems before. I didn't install any new programs, updates or drivers, so I don't know what caused it.
I did a clean install of  Windows 7-64bit last night and got all the drivers from HP support. It was still being sluggish, so I disabled hardware acceleration on Chrome and ie11 and that solved the problem on those two programs.. but the rest is still being slow (even the mouse pointer is lagging). So I'm thinking the problem has to do with the graphics card (?).It's a Radeon HD 6490m (switchable w/ Intel HD Graphics).
I have my power option set to High Performance and the switchable graphics set to High Performance GPU. Are there any other settings I could tweak? Or a compatible driver I could try?
    Thanks

    Hi @johnw80 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7-6179us Entertainment Notebook and issues with performance lags. Thank you for all the information about what is happening and what you have done thus far. Something is slowing the Notebook down. Did you install some virus protection or a firewall? If you disable the virus software,  are your speeds better.
Here is a document on improving your system.
Try seeing what is active in the task manager, ctrl +alt+ del   see what is running.
If that does not help at the end of this document it shows you to do a hardware test. The final thing you should try is to reload the factory BIOS settings.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase. It will make sure all your updates have been completed.
    Please let me know.

  • Lenovo ideapad s400 switchable graphics problem..!

Simply the switchable graphic ia not working on my device. Is there anyone who solved this issue? I fed up with sending my laptop to service. They say ' you have no problem about graphic card ' The second graphic card has not been working since we bought the computer. ??? I will use that comp. for experimantel porpuses: ) Because it is useless with the onboard graphic card.

    hi kuraysi,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Just to check, if you boot in Safe Mode, are you able to load Windows? If booting to Safe Mode works, perform a clean boot and observe. This will isolate any possible 3rd party software that might be inteferring with the Windows startup.
If that doesn't work and Windows is hanging up on the loading screen then we're probably looking at a corrupted Windows file or a bad hardware. In this case, you may need to:
    1. Reload the system via the OneKey Recovery (note that all ways on the OS partition will be wiped)
    2. If reloading Windows doesn't work or the machine freezes up then you're prolly looking at a bad hardware (possibly the HDD).
Let me know how it goes.

  • Switchable Graphic Problem AMD & Windows 8.1- Solved

    Follow the steps accurately
    1. Open This Pc or My Computer and then go to Uninstall or change a program
    2. As the list is displayed, you will see Intel Graphic Driver & AMD Catalyst install manager. You have to uninstall it both in express mode so that no other previous setting are available anymore.
    3. First, uninstall Intel Graphics driver. If it asks for a restarting the pc than go for it.
    4. As the list is displayed, you will see AMD Catalyst install manager, right click it and uninstall it in express mode. Uninstall all the AMD component. Restart your PC as it will ask you.
    5. Go to This Pc or My Computer and then C Drive. Open Program Files & Program Files (x86) both of them if you are running 64-bit Os. In the search box write AMD and you will find some remaining files- delete them all.
    6. Now you PC is free of previous drives and the remaining files. Although right click to Windows sign and go to Device Manager. You will see Display adapters and uninstall them both. This step is not necessary but just to be sure that your PC has no previously installed drivers.
    7. Open your browser and download the latest Intel Graphics Driver for your PC. My driver was Win64_153322. Install it. If you install it correctly than you are half way through. Restart your PC if it requires.
    8. Go to AMD web site and download the latest driver. To avoid complicacy best option is to download Autodetect. Because it will choose the best appropriate driver for your system. File name is amddriverdownloader.
    9.  Open the file amddriverdownloader and download the driver. Download will be completed and it will start automatically the installation. Install it in express mode. Restart your PC as it will ask you to do it.
    10. Hopefully your driver problems will be solved. To check it go to device manager and see if the drivers are installed correctly. Turn on CCC and give it a try to play a game in High Performance. You will see the problem is solved.
This is how I solved my AMD graphics problem. I been suffering since I installed Windows 8.1 just after it was released and today 15 Jun 14 I solved the issue. I can play any game in High performance now.
If you think my opinion is helpful to you than Please share it.

  • About 2 scream!!! NOT SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS PROBLEM!!! Vid card seems 2 FAIL PERIOD!!!

I have the dv7-6135dx with the intel/radeon 6490 blah blah blah. You guys know the machine. Every time i try to find information regarding the bleeding ati card, all i can find is switchable graphics this switchable that, bios update for switcha....
When i disabled the dynamic in bios long ago, i lost ability to control screen brightness. Was very dim. Haven't tried it again.
When i plug in a monitor to HDMI port=nothing. Vga port works fine but i can not watch any video greater than 1.2 Gb without super skipping and digital breakup of the video (the million tiny boxes thing).
From ati site, auto thingy detected my card, gave me best driver, installed and when i open catalyst, it always says can not start because no ati device.
Before? I could watch 18gb hd vids with stunning performance. Now? Its dvd rips or choke and die.
Can SOMEBODY.... ANYBODY tell me what if any troubleshooting there is to see if the card is shot, or if there is a fix please? One that does NOT involve some gahrbajje about bleeding switchable bloody graphics?
Thanks in advance for any and all help in THIS matter.

    Hey,
i don't know if this works, but for my TimelineX laptop it works:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ac … e_Graphics
I don't know if there is an "official" version, so I can just provide you with the link above. This script stops my radeon card when I boot. I only have as kernel parameter i915.modeset=1
and my intel card is always on.

  • T500 Windows 7 - Screen does not display - Switchable Graphics Problem

    Hello,
I have a T500 and I recently upgraded to Win7. Evrething was fine until I tried to install the drivers for the graphic cards and went on in BIOS and selected to use the integrated graphic card option. After reboot everything turns on except for the display. The fan works, everything looks OK but the screed does not display anything. I even tried to boot directly from the Win7 disk and install a fresh copy (maybe it would have been a better idea to do that in the first place) but it's the same, nothing happens. I don't know what else to try.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

UPDATE: I just came back after a visit to the apple service provider here in New Delhi. They have replaced the logic board on my macbook pro and guess what? the situation is still the same. No difference what so ever as far as the screen resolution is concerned. I can still see those black bars in the exact same places i.e. the right hand side as well as on the top of the screen. Even the size of the black bars are still the same.
I am so upset right now. After trying my best in order to solve this problem I went to the AASP with high hopes. I was very confident that after replacing the logic board this annoying problem would go away but unfortunately that's not the case. Even the Apple Engineer was clueless on how to solve this problem.
I think I'll call apple care and speak to the customer relations regarding a replacement.
If any of you can come up with a solution to this problem please let me know.
    I'm all ears!!!

  • HP Envy m6-1178sa Switchable Graphics Problem

My problem is the AMD Catalyst Control Center does not seem to recognise the AMD graphics card (HD 7670M).  It only gives me options for the Intel HD Graphics.  It gives me the option of switching between the power-saving and high performance options, but the "high performance" option is noticeably worse than the power-switching one.
According to Windows Device Manager, both graphics cards are functioning properly, and their drivers are up-to-date.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 64-bit: Switchable graphics and Ricoh card reader problem

    Hi guys,
Two problems with my laptop. I'm using a T400, previously installed with Windows Vista Business 32-bit.
Switchable graphics worked well until I formatted and installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (I got the RTM through MSDNAA). Now, Windows can only detect either the discrete graphics or integrated graphics at one time. When the BIOS was set to switchable graphics and enabling the detection of switchable graphics on Windows, it could only detect the Intel integrated graphics. When I try to switch to High Performance graphics through the Lenovo power manager, the screen flashes once, and the ATi graphics card appears on the device manager with the code 10 error (cannot start device). Also, compared to this image, my power manager window that opens with left-click does not have battery stretch and switchable graphics options. I have to right-click to switch my graphics.
After some tinkering, I managed to activate the graphics card through the BIOS by switching it to discrete graphics only and disabling switchable graphics detection by Windows. Now the device manager shows the ATi card only, the Intel integrated graphics is gone. I understand that it should show both display adapters in the device driver when the ATi card is active: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70495.html#g4
The second problem is with the Ricoh card reader. I managed to install the drivers properly, but the device shows up with a code 12 error (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use) in the device manager. That error appears on 6 items in the device manager:
    Ricoh Memory Stick controller
    Ricoh SD/MMC Host controller
    Ricoh xD-Picture card controller
Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant host controller
Ricoh R/RL/5C476(II) or Compatible CardBus controller
SDA Standard Compliant SD host controller
Additionally, 6 error messages appear during every boot up, which I think is related to these 6 devices:
    ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 07
    Bus:15, Device:00, Function: 00 (it ranges from function 00  to 05)
AND disabling the device through device manager results in a BSOD.
I've seen some people post about the Ricoh problem, but didn't have any resolution (at least for those who had the boot up error message too). The switchable graphics problem seems quite common too but in my case it seems like it is working fine EXCEPT for the fact that only one graphics adapter can appear on the device manager at one time and I can't do switching at all. Anyone know if I can somehow solve this? Sorry for the wall of text and two-problems-in-one. I put them together because I don't know if one problem is affecting the other as both problems appeared at around the same time.

As far as the graphics goes it's well accpeted the only way at present to switch is though the bios manually. There is currently no drivers that enable users to switch from within Win7. Know it's a pain but will just have to wait.

  • Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Problems (Switchable Graphics, Screen Brightness Adjustment, etc.)

Hi guys! I hope you can help me with this.
My laptop is a Lenovo U400 bought last April. I upgraded it yesterday to Windows 8 Pro.
The Upgrade Assistant detected incompatibilities on the following softwares (I'll be mentioning only those I had problems with after the update.)
    -AMD Catalyst Install Manager
    -Catalyst Control Center
    -Lenovo Energy Management
    -Cypress Trackpad
After the update, the following problems occurred
-Windows kept prompting me about the incompatibility of Catalyst Control Center and Lenovo Energy Management
-When I check the Device Manager -->Display Adapters, My AMD Radeon HD 6470M was changed to HD 7400M and has an exclamation point on it indicating a problem. When check Properties it says, "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
-I can't manage switchable graphics because the AMD Radeon driver has been stopped by the OS and Catalyst Control Center doesn't work. It says, "Catalyst Control Center cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using Catalyst Control Center."
-My touchpad works but does not support multitouch functions.
-Screen brightness adjustment stopped working both on hotkeys and Power Options.
I tried the following actions to fix the problems:
-Downloaded the new softwares from Lenovo Support but the Catalyst Control Center and Cypress Trackpad still doesn't work. I also tried installing driver software from the AMD site but it still didn't work. [FAILED]
-I tried to use the Cypress Trackpad software for U300s/e and it fixed the problem with the touchpad [FIXED]
-Installed the Energy Management software for Windows 8 but when I click the 'Optimized Battery Health' button, it keeps reverting back to 'Maximum Battery Life'. [PARTIALLY FIXED]
-Resorted to 3rd party software to fix the Switchable Graphics (Catalyst 12.11 Beta from leshcatlabs.net) and it fixed the switchable graphics problem as well as the Catalyst Control Center problem. This is temporary until a working solution or update is available. [TEMPORARILY FIXED]
-All actions trying to fix the Screen brightness adjustment didn't work. [FAILED]
Please do help me on this. Thanks in advance!!!

Yes I own U400 too and I'm using it now. To many forums been read, can't remember which one. Basically, u have to clean AMD and Intel drivers that come along with Win 8. Why? Because the Win8 driver database will lead the device ID "DEV_6760" (if you looking at display adapter device properties) to HD 7400 series instead of HD 6470M, again why? At the bigining only the HD 7400 series already "certified" by Microsoft, while the 6470M out of somewhere. Current CCC (or else) + 6470 drivers, contain also driver for 7400 series in same packages (at least until now, hopefully near future they will release an update). So you can gues where the windows will lead to? Yes 7400 series (certified one). This will explain also why the Energy Management didn't work to= "missing identifier" or we can say "hardware not match".
You have to find a "fix" driver which contain only HD 6470M and install it manually trhu "Have Disk" option, after you claan all AMD and Intel driver. If you success, then install the CCC from Lenovo Support and from ATI ( I use 12.11 Beta8 Net4 CCC - this is a must), but remember to unchek the AMD Display driver when you install both CCC, and leave the rest checked including Intel Component. Then you can download install anything you want =).
Leschat's driver did't work on my and "harm" the system. Believe it or not, I found the AMD 6470M standalone driver on HP website. They call it "SoftPack", which actually contain CCC software.
It's quite tricky thing, that's why not everyone willing to try. But I think it's worth to try, as the risk is not too deep, just backup anything befor you do it. Cheer
