T400 Taskbar Autohide ? Problem, ? Normal

Hello,
Please, some help for a T400 newbie.  I am running XP Pro SP3 on a Lenovo desktop as well as a Lenovo T400
laptop. With taskbar autohide enabled on both, the taskbar disappears completely, as expected, on the desktop. On the T400 the upper 1.0-1.5 mm of the taskbar is always seen, even with autohide enabled. Is this normal?
Many Thanks to all responding T400 owners.

I guess you use a CRT for your desktop... Yes, this is normal. But it's not specific to the T400, this how Windows XP was designed, i.e. to leave 2 pixels of height (@96 DPI) showing when the taskbar is hidden (so you know on which side of the screen the taskbar is.)

  • T400 Flickering Screen problem

I am having a problem where my computer screen keeps flickering, especially during start up and afterwards. It doesnt matter whether it is plugged in or not. It is similar to this video,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MOv_NsFqpQ&noredirect=1
I took it to my tech support and no one had any idea what to do about it. In addition, images on random websites (anything from huffington post to yelp) only half load. I uninstalled and reinstalled my browsers and updated my drivers.
This laptop has given me problems since I bought it. I once sent it into lenovo for repair and it had to be sent right back again. Another time i got a replacement battery and it arrived coated in sand and seemed worse than the original - (but was going abroad so I couldnt wait for another replacement.)
Since it is out of warranty, I am wondering if there is any way to fix this or whether I need to get a new laptop. Thanks!

Even though you are out of warranty Lenovo can still have perform the repairs.

  • Firefox 3.6 starts in taskbar mode, not normal screen mode

Firefox opens only as an item on the Windows taskbar, instead of in "normal" screen mode. I then have to click on the taskbar item to get Firefox to open in normal screen mode.
By normal screen mode, I mean the mode where Firefox fills up part of the computer screen and Firefox can then be resized or moved around the screen as one desires. I am not talking about opening Firefox in what is variously called "full screen," F11, or maximized mode --- and I do not want Firefox opening in such a mode.
I have a wide screen monitor which I use to open and view several software programs at the same time, something which is very handy when you want to compare information from a program on one's computer with information from a Web site, and I need Firefox to open in normal screen mode to permit me to do this multiple program viewing.
I have tried the following plugins , but they either do not solve my problem, or only allow me to start Firefox in full screen mode:
    - AutoHide
    - Full Fullscreen
    - FullerScreen
I have tried searching the Firefox help database, and have done a more general internet search using Google, and have not found any information on this problem.
Is there a Firefox configuration setting I can make to direct Firefox to always open in normal screen mode?

Reply to Cor-el's June 6th message: I created a desktop shortcut and tested it a few times, both various times during computer sessions and a few times just after I had powered up my desktop computer. The shortcut always opens Firefox in "normal screen mode." I also tested opening Firefox from the Start button menu item I have had for several years. The menu item also always opens Firefox in "normal screen mode."
It is only when I use the Web/Home button on the Microsoft internet keyboard that Firefox opens in "taskbar mode." Also, this problem has only been occuring for the past 6 or 7 months. Before that, I could always open Firefox 3 in "normal screen mode" using the Web/Home button.
Note to the other eight people who also indicated they have this problem: My version of the problem seems to be with Firefox's interaction with the software for the Microsoft internet keyboard. I would appreciate it if you could post a reply to this discussion informing everyone whether you have this Firefox startup problem when you use a dedicated keyboard key, or if you have the startup problem when you use just a desktop shortcut or a Start button menu item. Thank you.

  • T400 sleep mode problem

Hi, I got my new T400 last week, prett happy. However, I found an annoying problem with T400 entering sleep mode. Randomly, it fails to go into sleep mode. It just hangs there with no response at all from keyboard and mouse, the "sleep moon" light doens't turn on either. I have to hold the power button to forcely shut it down and reboot. Quite annoying.
I did some research on this forum, somebody suggested reinstall the Power Manager and its driver, I tried that and the problem remains. BTW, My video driver is also up to date.
Then I called Lenovo/IBM Atlanta support team, and was told to try to update my BIOS. So I preceeded with that too. Because I have Vista64, I have to download an iso image and burn a bootable CD with Roxio Creator (preinstalled on T400), and changed the BIOS startup sequence to boot from the internal CD drive. Somehow, T400 couldn't boot from the CD I burned with the BIOS update iso image. So I am back to suqare one.
Someone in this forum also suggested it might be a motherboard problem, but the tech rep I talked with didn't mention that.
Any suggestions on this sleeping mode issue? Or if you could help with the bootable CD with BIOS update? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I have to ask the usual iso burn question: are you burning it as a file, or as an image?  If your cd is readable under windows (or whatever) and has a file on it called xxx.iso, you probably used the wrong burn option.
No offense, but this is the usual problem.  If you are already handling this, sorry about the noise...

  • T400 different wireless problem

    Hi,
I have a problem with the Intel WifiLink 5300 on my T400 with Vista.
I am using Vista to configure the wireless.
But I'd rather use Thinkvantage, but even if I disable the Vista integrated wireless configuration, Thinkvantage still says that another program controls the wireless)
The Second problem is that web browsing sometimes doesn't work.
I enter google.com in firefox or internet explorer, it looks like he does something, but than a white page or nothing appears.
The funny thing about that is that other programs don't have problems, the Thinkvantage updater never disconnected and even if firefox can't reach google i still get a ping answer from google.
I disabled Windows Firewall und Defender, doesn't help anything.
The internet connection comes over a wireless connection, but other laptops don't have the same problems with the same router.
(i already installed the newest version of the WifiLink driver from intel's homepage)

how many bars of signal do you have?
Also, paste your pings and do a tracert to google.com when the browsing is not working.

  • My new T400 & three recent problems that I suffered

My T400 was delivered about a week ago. I am not sure how to contact support.
    TYPE: 7417-CTO
    1) When I started it for the very first time, it took me straight to the screen: "Your computer was not properly shut down; Please choose one of the options". Then I started it normally. It should not start like this. Correct?
Used Think vantage updates & after that neither my finger print reader is working nor is my recovery.
    I get the following messages:
The file S:\Preboot\recovery\nls required by this program cannot be found
When I try to use "Rescue & Recovery" in bios, it says "Recovery function has been removed from this system"
After using think vantage software updates, Finger print sensor is not working.
What to do? Expect a miracle?
Probably I will need RECOVERY DVDs/CDs. Windows is VISTA ULTIMATE 32 Bit operating system.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Dr. Khan,
first I would suggest to burn your R&R disks, you´ll need 7cd or 3  DVD´s.
It seems System Updater have updated your fingerprint software and R&R so both is unavailible for you.
There is a long way, to uninstall R&R and install the new versions, or simply use recovery media and
restore system to factory state. But you should safe your c:\SWTools folder, there are your needed drivers.
Then let System Updater only install the other software, but no BIOS, R&R and CSS.
Then you´ll get a new system in 2h, other method is 4-6h.
    Regards
    Andreas

  • T400 WiFi Driver problem

First post.  I have a T400 and upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64.  Everything worked great.  I tried to load the new WiFi 5300 drivers (ver 13) and my T400 cannot shutdown.  It reboots and says that a serious driver problem occured.  The machine cannot be shutdown without a hard shutdown.  I have tried loading the driver using System Update, the Lenovo website and the Intel website all with the same result.  If I uninstall the update everything works fine.  I'm hoping to get better wifi performance especially N band with the new driver.
Has anyone gotten the new WiFi 5300 Drivers loaded on a T400 with Windows 7 64?  What other Thinkvantage apps do you have running?

  • Lenovo T400 Wireless Conncetion Problem!

Hi, I have a Lenovo T400 Laptop. Recently, I got some problems in connecting to wireless networks. My laptop can find available wireless networks. I can see "Access Connections" menu with available networks. When I click on "Connect" to access a network, a menu bar appears showing that WIFI is trying to connect to the network. However, after a couple of minutes the connection fails in "waiting for IP configuration" step. I tried it with different networks and got the same problem. I would be very grateful if someone can help me about this problem. Regards, Ali

Okay, that sounds like a faulty intel wireless card, i had couple of them doing that. Do you have warranty remaining?

  • T400 & X201 wireless problem

    Hello,
I have 2 Lenovo Laptops (a T400 and a X201, both with Vista) that can't get internet connection over wireless.
I recently installed internet on my new flat.
The router I'm using is a Netgear DGl1000.
I have another computer that can connect to the router via wireless without any problems
I have both an android phone and an iphone that can also connect.
I can connect both Lenovo laptops if I use an ethernet cable.
When I try to connect via wireless, I can connect to the network, I can ping the router IP address and the Windows tray icon indicates that I am connected to the internet, but I'm not. I can't ping anything else.
Anyone has any idea about what might be happening?
    Thanks,
    Joao

    hey joaoleal,
just to be certain .. when network cable is connected, you can get connected to the internet but if using wireless no connection at all even though both units detects the SSID being broadcasted by your NetGear?
could you try this, uninstall the current wireless driver then let windows install its generic driver.
on your netgear, reset the connection and set the SSID to broadcast without any security.
remove any wifi profile your two laptops might have stored and try again

  • T400 screw placement problem

Hey guys, small problem working out where one screw goes(well two screws sort of)... Bought a T400 second hand and it was flithy. Seen the well detailed pdf and thought there was nothing to lose, so took it all apart lol. But now on my way back to re-assembling it all, I've quickly hit a snag.
The diagram in the pdf page 102 seems to be different from my layout (my magnesium frame is different in a way it has more holes in some areas)
    Here is my layout
Notice that the pdf diagram hasn't got as many holes under the wifi card area. Also the hole to the left of the lcd connector on my layout isnt there in the pdf .. reason why I mention this hole also is because I have a screw in it coming up from the bottom(you see, this hole is there from the bottom in the pdf on page 110(screw 8) of how the motherboard screws onto the frame, but from this top view its gone(mistake in the pdf maybe?.., but why all the other differences too, like extra holes on my layout?)..  Is it a half hole, that doesn't come through to top, maybe only on certain models?).. the thing that is confusing, is that the lcd brace uses that same hole too. So that is going to be 2 screws in the same hole - one screwed in from bottom, then from from the top when brace goes on... is this right?
Now getting to the "1 screw" that is confusing me the most. It's a "9.5mm screw" and it is meant to go to the right of the lcd socket. but the layout in the pdf is slightly different. Should I put it there anyway?.. What if it goes under the wifi card instead?.. the holes there look more deeper, and the screw is big. And I'm afraid I may damage the MB if screwed into wrong hole. It is on pdf page 102 (screw 4)... can anyone shed any light on this confusion?
Thanks in advance for any replies
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

All the T400 wifi cards are "n" compatible. The 3 wire cards are primary (b & g), auxilary and "n". There are also 2-wire cards that are primary (b, g, & n) and auxilary. I never found that turbo memory really helped. I ran tests and had no improvement. CPU upgrades only help if you do very particular cpu-intensive tasks. In general, adding memory and getting a faster disk are more cost-effective. If you have a WWAN card, you can access a celular network as if you had a mobile phone. In the U.S. the service is expensive, and I have never gotten it because it doesn't cover the areas where I would use it. Someone else can probably give you more help on the particulars in the UK.

  • T400: Hibernation & Sleep problem

Anyone: I have a T400 2764CTO with Vista business 32 installed.  I recently updated my computer and now both the Hibernation and Sleep modes do not work.  The machine goes into Hibernation and then immediately restarts?  Does anyone have any idea's on how to fix this problem as I've called both IBM and Lenovo and they both were not very helpful.

  • T400 XP reinstallation problem

I bought a T400 with vista last month.
Then, I installed ubuntu (reformatted the whole harddrive, thus wiped out the system partition)
Now, I want to install XP to it, but have problems
    From CD-rom
blue sceen with STOP: 0x0000007B (notes:I already changed SATA to compatible in BIOS)
    From flash drive
    missing hal.dll
    anyone with similiar experience? thanks

If you have a usb floppy drive just use the intel f6 drivers.  If you don't have a usb floppy just use nlite to slipstream the f6 driver or you can follow some guides that allow you to use a thumbdrive during the f6 drive add process.
