T400 virtualization fails despite set in BIOS
I found this post http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Hardware-Virtualisation-on-E520-with-i5-2540M-2-6... when I searched on 'T400 Virtualization' - but it does not seem to apply. I have a T400 with the BIOS version 2.16 7VET6WW dated 2009-04-22 with system board vf27k9434tj and the Intel P8600 CPU.
I try to set up virtualization with VirtualBox on Linux Mint 17 'Quiana' but VirtualBox tells me I do not have VT-d enabled, even though it is enabled in the BIOS, and I have cycled power since changing the BIOS.
No supervisor password is set. The RAM matches, a pair of 2GB modules.
How can I get virtualization to permit use of multiple CPUs?
Thank you kindly.

The installation process is probably being interrupted by your antivirus file scanner. Most security apps incorporate such utilities which spring into action as soon as you attempt to install, or uninstall a program. That has the effect of causing the installation to halt at a certain point and you're left somewhere in limbo.
What I suggest you do here is to find your AV app on this site and then use the instructions to disable it: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html
After doing that, download the Flash uninstaller from here: 32-bit Flash Uninstaller When you see the prompt, choose "Save" and save it somewhere you can find it easily afterwards. Do not choose "Run". Close IE8 before you run the uninstaller.
After the uninstaller terminates, reboot to clear the old Registry entries.
When the system reboots to the desktop, disable your AV app again, then go here to download the latest version: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
This time, when you see the prompt, choose "Run" to install it immediately.
    Finally, re-enable your antivirus again.

  • Satellite A660 - Camera device failed to initialize after BIOS update

I bought a Satellite A660 PSAW3A-07P00R last December. Yesterday I updated to BIOS version 1.9 (did not record what version before the update). Running Windows 7 Home Premium.
After the update, I got this message when I want to use the built-in webcam. The message is "Camera device failed to initialize. Either the device is in use by another application, or it is not recognized by the system." I have tried to open the device manager but cannot find any image or camera device there. I have also download the webcam application version 1.1.1.15 from Toshiba site but it does not install.
Is it any way to revert the BIOS back to the old version? Can Toshiba look at this problem for BIOS version 1.9? Has any one come across with this and finally fix it? Your suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Will

    Hi
Only the ASP can revert the BIOS to early version because they could reflash the BIOS using the BIOS DOS-rational BIOS.
But the point is that if you are using the right BIOS, then the webcam should work properly in connection with the new update.
So I agree with Xardas. You should set the BIOS to default settings and should save the changes before you would leave the BIOS.
Then uninstall the webcam software and disable also some background processes which could lock the webcam. This can be done in msconfig.
I would also recommend cleaning the registry using the CCLeaner who knows whats is going wrong with the OS registry so CCleaner helps you to clean the registry entries.
After several reboots, you could try to install the webcam software once again.
    Good luck

  • Virtualization: ThinkStation S30 vs VT-d

    Hi.
I got my S30 the other day and installed Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V.
The system has an E5-1603 processor and a Quadro 400 gfx. Both are low end and can be upgraded once things turn out ok. Hyper-V 2012 als does not require a physical GPU for RemoteFX and the E5-1603 supports VT-d.
However, RemoteFX doesn't seem to be working. I cannot activate anything in Hyper-V that would take advantage of it and I am suspicious of VT-d. In the Bios (latest a0jy40usa) virtualization is enabled.
One problem I see is under the Intel TXT(LT-SX) configuration it says VT-d Disabled. Why would it be disabled? And how can it be enabled? Is this a Bios bug?
    Thanks for any pointers!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a setting in BIOS to enable VT-d as it's disabled by default.  Go into BIOS setup, devices, northbridge, IOH config, and in there you will see an option to enable VT-d.  That will simply turn on VT-d.  If you want TXT as well, you'll have to enable the TPM under security.  The TXT/VT-d  config screen (under the advanced tab) is really just a display of what's on/off as far as TXT, VT-d, and the supporting components required.

Blank out/remove all of the categories you have configured in ConfigMgr on the Software Update Point. Then run a full synchronization from the console. This will synch up all available categories without trying to subscribe to any. Then, you can go back
re-select the categories that want (after the full synch completes) and perform another full synch.
Right now, you are trying to subscribe to a category that doesn't exist.

  • Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2

    Hi,
I have a Primary site (mixed mode) running SCCM 2007 SP1 for many months now with no issues.
This site is made up of two Win 2008 sp2 servers sharing the SCCM roles:-
SCCM01 - Site server, DP, RP, PXE and SQL2005 hosting the SCCM database
SCCM02 – SUP, MP, FSP, SLP
The SQL2005 on SCCM01 is running under a domain service account called
domain\service_sccm which is also a sysadmin in SQL as is the SCCM02 server.
In an effort to resolve the isse I have made this account a Domain Admin.
I have also used this account to log onto SEC01 to run the Secondary Site installation and to be the SQL Service account.
I'm now trying to add a Secondary Site on a Domain Controller called SEC01 (also Win2008 sp2) and on the same LAN as the SCCM01/02.
This is where I get problems.
I run the installation locally on the Sec Site server (DC) as a Domain Admin and the installation completes OK (all green ticks),
the ComponentSetup.log and Pre-Reqs are all good as well however when I check the ConfigMgrSetup.log I see the below -
Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2.

Adding the PMP role to SEC01 also fails to install and no MPSetup or MPControl logs are created.
WebDav and win2008 roles, features all added and server fully patched.
Despooler.log on SCCM01 seems good and passing keys.
Tried installing to default path and to shortened path such as C:\SCCM
The new secondary site is listed in the console and an address can be added for the Secondary Site
BITS Server Extensions and Remote Differential Compression Features are enabled.
The Group memberships all appear ok:-
    SCCM01
    Local Admins
contains the sec site server SEC01, SCCM01, installation accounts
    SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_001
    SEC01 (the sec site server)
    SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_001
    SCCM02
    SEC01
No Local Admins as a DC
    SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_002
    SCCM01
    SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_002
    empty
    SQL 2005
This has the account logged in during installation as a sysadmin
    SCCM02 is also sysadmin
The fundamental issue appears to be that the SEC01$ server account is not being added to SQL Logins (and therefore SCCM database Roles)
    therefore the installation cannot complete.
I have tried to manually add the SEC01 account to SQL Logins before installation of Sec Site but this did not work.
Not sure if the fact that SEC01 is a DC may be a factor.
Appreciate any help if anyone has seen this before or can suggest a resolution.
    Thanks

After a lot of digging around and head scratching I eventually found the resolution.
The original thread title Error turned out to be a bit of a red herring in that my failure to deploy Sec Sites came down to two separate issues seemingly unrelated to the error message of the thread title.
The first part of the resolution was to manually create the SQL Server accounts for the Sec Site Servers and assign them to the smsdbrole_MP DB role to
let the SQL side of the SCCM install complete a s these were not being created automatically.
This then left the fact that that the installation of the Sec Site completed successfully according to the install logs in C:\ however the DP and MP would
    never install.
The big clue was eventually contained in the mpfdm.log errors relating to
**ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox SMS_AMT_PROXY_COMPONENT on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
    and
**ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox Asset Intelligence KB Manager on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
Thankfully the errors led me to these two blogs:
    http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/scassells/archive/2009/07/20/error-cannot-find-path-for-destination-inbox-sms-amt-proxy-component-on-server-registry.aspx
    and
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/5fcc53d4-8629-4b34-9eaa-6cb020eedc13/
As it turned out the SCCM installation registry and folder creation does not complete and I had to manually enter the reg settings as detailed in the
links above to complete the installation. Once I did as described everything worked a treat – all my MPs and DPs are 100% now.
    Solutions

  • Z68 WIN 7 will not boot after setting drive BIOS from IDE to SATA

    MSI Z68MA-ED55 (B3) Motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS
SATA III Solid State Drive with greater than 500 MB/s throughput
After installing WIN7 and all my Applications programs I noticed in the BIOS that the driver for the SSD did not properly set to fully support the SSD but remained in the IDE mode.
This computer was built for technical graphics work and not for child's play.  So I don't want to have to reinstall all the applications software for work with all its required protection features from theft.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. With this high transfer rate SSD, is it worth the performance improvement to reset the BIOS from the IDE driver to the proper driver?
    2. If so, how can I set the BIOS to the correct driver without reinstalling everything?
    3. At some level of the installation the system should have sensed the SSD SATA III and changed the driver from IDE. Where should this take place?

    Hi,
I had the same problem. You need to put it back to IDE, boot to Windows then follow the below instructions and it works fine. (Courtesy of Guru3D)
    Enable AHCI
The last tip we want to give you to gain a little extra performance boost is that you enable AHCI mode. AHCI mode can help out greatly in performance for SSDs. Now, if you swap out an HDD for an SSD with the operating system cloned and THEN enable AHCI in the BIOS, then you'll likely get a boot error / BSOD.
The common question is, is there a solution for this ?
To answer that question (and as we do safely with all modern chipsets) there is a way to safely enable AHCI mode. Here we go:
    1. Startup "Regedit"
    2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
    3. Open msahci
    4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
    5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
    6. exit "Regedit"
    7. Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (typically hold "Delete" key while Booting)
In your BIOS select "Integrated Peripherals" and OnChip PATA/SATA Devices. Now change SATA Mode from IDE to AHCI.
You now boot into windows 7 or Vista, and the OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Now the system needs one more reboot and voilla ... enjoy the improved SSD performance.

  • Do browser send a error report to the website if browser fail in set up communication channel first time with that site

Suppose i want to open some site using mozilla but first time browser fail to set up communication channel. When I attempt second time it successfully set up a connection then my question is that on the second time will browser send error report of first time to that site

What was the specific problem with the first request? For example:
    * The server reset the connection
    * Page didn't load (blank)
    * Security certificate error
    * et cetera
In some of these cases, the destination server might not know you sent a first request. And in other cases, that will be in the log. But I do not think Firefox sends any notification of problems with previous connections, the site would have to make an educated guess about the problem based on getting two sequential requests from the same IP address.

  • XSLT sender plugin fails to set JMS message properties

When creating a JMS message to be put on a JMS queue, one of the XSLT for the XSLT automation plugin fails to set JMS string properties like: wlsmimehdrContent_Type
The content on the xslt are listed below.
    The xslt in CPRLookupRequest.xslt sets:
    wlsmimehdrContent_Type
    SERVICE_SUFFIX
    OSM_EVENT_TYPE
as expected, but the almost similar plugin NABSCreditEvalPluginRequest.xsl fails to set the same string JMS properties.
I'm looking for a clue, because I'm clueless. I'm an XSLT newbie, so it might be something simple.
The core part of the problem is put in bold in the listings below

  • 5508 as HA active controller - Failed to set Redundancy Mode

I am trying to setup HA in our lab
    Both 5508s are running 7.4.100.0.
The primary/active controller is configured as follows
    management IP:                         144.249.185.33
    Redundancy-Management:        144.249.185.69
    Redundancy Port:                       169.254.185.69
The standby controller was purchased as an HA SKU is configured as follows
    management IP:                         144.249.185.3
    Redundancy-Management:        144.249.185.70
    Redundancy Port:                       169.254.185.70
When we set the standby AP SSO state to enabled, it reboots, etc and all seems good.
When we set the primary AP SSO state to enabled, it doesn't let us.  All it does is give us a pop up window via the web gui that says:
    "Failed to set Redundancy Mode"
    Not very meaningful.

v7.4.100.60 is recommended for HA unless you get a TAC version.  There are some stability issues that have been fixed in the .60 version and if your planing on testing in a lab, I would suggest you use that code.  You would need to disable AP SSO and upgrade the WLC's.

    solved :
That message is due to cosmetic defect CSCtc89228. Its not of concern
problem-wise (its only cosmetic), and is usually produced when ASDM is
used to manage the sensor. A potential workaround is to ensure that a
nameif statement is added to the ASA Management interface (in the ASA
    config):

    Hi,
First get the backup piece size its trying to allocate for file "/home/oracle/DBBACKUP/Oracle10g1/Full_Backup/DB_Backup_201401128366598241"
    = 12839996*16384
    = 210370494464/1024/1024/1024
    =195.9GB
Its trying to allocate ~196GB for the file.
    1. Make sure the RMAN backup piece won’t exceed the O/S permitted filesize limit.
    2. But we can restrict the RMAN backup piece using the MAXPIECESIZE option.
You restricted it to 120GB but actual requirement to allocate backup piece file is ~196GB.
I think you need to change the MAXPIECESIZE and give it a try.
Please update if it succeeded or failed.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Gayu
