T400 will not properly reboot

I recently re-installed windows XP on my T400. I went though and installed all the drivers on the list for video, wifi, etc. Everything seemed to work fine, till after I installed the Intel Chip Set drivers. Now my laptop will not reboot itself when asked to.
Here's what's happening:
I choose to reboot the computer --> The computer shuts down --> It seems to try to wake up again, but it cannot. --> I have to unplug the power, take out the battery, put back in the battery, plug the power, then press power button --> Then it starts to boot again.
While trying to reboot, the laptop indicator lights (such as the power, battery or other ones) keep flickering.
I have the latest PM driver installed.
Anyone got any hints?

Hello,
@vicjang
to install XP please follow this T400 clean install guide.
@GXCross
Please look into your eventmanager/viewer at start-->control panel>administration.
Are there some exclamation marks at that time, your computer shuts down?

  • IPod Classic will not properly sync

Hey everybody. I'm really hoping that somebody could help me out with this, as I am getting rather frustrated with it.
My iPod Classic 120GB will not properly sync with iTunes on Windows 7. When I plug my iPod into my computer, I get the typical "Scan & Fix" message from Windows, and I generally just close the window without selecting an option (to Scan & Fix or Ignore), as neither option has ever seemed to change anything.
I used to have over 100GB of music on my iPod, collected from various sources over the past 5 years or so, but a few months ago I plugged my iPod in to add new music to it, and iTunes did not recognize any of the files on my iPod. When I ejected it, there was no music on my iPod, but it still had 100GB of space filled. I decided to just bite the bullet and reformat my iPod, even though I would be losing most of my music, in hopes that I could make it work correctly.
However, after I reformatted it, I have continued to have problems. I have reformatted using both iTunes and the Windows reformatting tool. Every time I plug my iPod in to add new music, the same things happen. I'm not automatically syncing iTunes to my iPod, because I like to be able to manage my music manually. I can add some music to it, but certain files will not copy and then nothing alphabetically after those files will copy either. I eject my iPod and use it normally throughout the day, but then when I plug it back into my computer again to try to add the rest of my music, iTunes says that my iPod has no music on it (even though space is being used). When this happens, I just restore the iPod and try again, and this is getting extremely aggravating.
My music is all in MP3 format, and I am not trying to add movies, pictures, or any other files to my iPod (other than cover art). I have run anti-virus checks and stuff on all of my music files, and everything has come up clean. Should I try converting all of my music to AAC, or will this just take forever and not actually fix anything? I have already tried downgrading to an older version of iTunes, and I have still been having the same issues. I don't know what else I could do, and I really don't have the money to buy a new iPod.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

There may be some hardware fault on the iPod's hard drive, which is causing this problem.  Your use of manual loading may be agravating the problem, because you are making the iPod apply many small incremental disk access updates.  If you used automatic syncing, iTunes makes all changes at once, with one disk access, then dismounts the iPod's disk and spins down until the next sync, when it again makes all updates at once.
I understand why you want to use the manual method, but here's a way to "replicate" what you do manually using automatic syncing.
Create a new playlist in iTunes.  Load this playlist with ALL the songs you want on the iPod.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  On the Music tab, set it to Sync music using Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, keep it simple by checkmarking ONLY that new playlist with the songs you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs on that playlist sync to the iPod.
Going forward, to update the iPod's songs, just update that playlist (add and remove songs).  Basically, instead of manually updating the iPod, you are manually updating the playlist.  It's the same work, but with several key advantages:
    - The iPod does not need to be connected to make updates, increasing flexibility and reducing wear-and-tear on iPod.  Just connect the iPod once after you are done making all changes to the playlist.
    - Updates to a playlist are instantaneous.  Updates made directly to an iPod (especially one with a hard drive that may need to spin up) takes a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on data size.  You're just waiting.
    - Many small updates to the iPod's hard drive is more wear-and-tear, compared to iTunes applying all of your changes with one consolidated disk access.
    - iTunes keeps the iPod's "disk" NOT mounted, except when syncing.  This reduces wear-and-tear, and the chance of data corruption occuring.  The manual method requires the iPod's disk to be mounted at all times (until ejected).
    - Because the iPod's disk is not mounted most of the time, you don't need to eject before disconnecting.
    - You have a backup of all of your iPod songs on the computer's hard drive.
    - If you do a Restore, or if you get a new iPod, all you do is go to the Music tab and select that one playlist again, and click Apply.  Everything back to the way it was before, with a few mouse clicks (and 20-30 minutes or so of syncing).
If you want multiple playlists on the iPod, just create those playlists in the iTunes library.  Name them so that they all appear grouped together in the iTunes sidebar.  Checkmark those playlists on the Music tab.  Do your "song maintenance" in iTunes using those playlists, and let iTunes automatically sync all changes at once the next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button).
Try setting it up to use automatic syncing, to see if there is any improvement.

  • I have purchased adobe creative suite design Premium and it will not properly load onto my other laptop because my ist laptop crashed.

I purchased adobe creative suite design premium as a student and was supposed to be able to download it onto one more computer if needed and now because my other laptop has crashed I still need to use the software on my new laptop. the files load and I get the read only files but it won't set up like the original installation. What kind of company doesn't have customer phone representative service on software we pay big money for?

Since you say you are having a problem with files not downloading properly, below is an alternate site where you can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.  If you are not able to find your version, if you identify it then a more direct link might be available.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • X200 will not stop rebooting at shut down

I have an X200 that will not shut down when the battery is installed.  After hitting shut down, it goes through the normal shut down cycle, but then about 5 seconds later starts back up again.  When operated without the main battery in (ie. on the power cord only)…it will shut down normally.  Here is what I have tried so far, none of which has helped:
I’ve run multiple diagnostic programs and none have identified an issue with the system or the hard drive
The system originally had XP installed so I did a complete wipe and installed Windows 7, but it did not fix it.  I also installed all the available Windows 7 driver updates.
Updated the BIOS, and checked all the bios setting
    Replaced the Cmos battery
Replaced the main battery (I am using OEM batteries, tried both a 6 cell and 9 cell)
Turned off the auto reboot setting for when there is a system failure
I did a ton of searches online for this and could not find anything that helped.  Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can provide.

    Hmm,
See if there are settings for "wake on Lan" functionality in the BIOS.   If so, try to disable them.  Maybe it is detecting some networking activity and starting up?
This is a really odd one.

  • Safari will not properly logon to or display certain pages.

I have started having a problem with Safari not loading some pages correctly or even logging on pages correctly. When I try to log on to http://www.t-mobile.com/. It looks like it logged in correctly, but them I am redirected back to a page as if my username and password were in correct. I double checked my username and password using FireFox and it worked fine. I have also had problems with other java intensive sites (http://home.cards.citidirect.com). They simply will not load. All I get is a blank page. I go to the same site using FireFox and they load with no problem. I have tried clearing the cache, deleting cookies, and even resetting Safari. Nothing has worked. Any suggestions??

T-mobile page worked for me. Citicards page was blank. It may be a dead link or coded for windows.

  • T400 will not recognize Benq monitor thru my TRENDnet KVM switch

I get an error message "Your computer is not attached to an external monitor" when I try to connect to my analog monitor thru a TrendNet 4 port KVM switch (TK409K) to my T400 .... USB keyboard and mouse plus sound all work fine thru the KVM switch .... desktops on other ports (a NetVista and a ThinkCenter) are all OK and can use the monitor correctly ....
My prior laptop (T41p) was also able to use the monitor thru the same port on the KVM switch .... only change was to replace T41p with upgrade to T400 .... if I bypass KVM switch and connect the monitor directly to the T400, all is OK .
I thought the monitor output from the laptop was solely outbound, but the error message seems to indicate that it has a way of detecting whether anything is attached to the monitor output connector on the T400. My suspicion is that whatever info the T400 expects when a monitor is attached is not getting back thru the KVM switch, but ....
Any ideas, hints, advice would be greatly appreciated .... thx in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hmmm...I get the same sort of symptoms.
I've got a 22" Acer LCD connected to a TK-409K 4 port switch.  I tried shutting down my T400 Vista laptop, docking it and switching the KVM over to port #3 (where I've got the wires hooked up that are connected to the VGA & USB port of my docking station).  Then I turn on the T400 and it doesn't appear to find my Acer monitor.  Going into display settings shows display 2, but the only choice for resolution if 800x600, and enabling "extend the desktop onto this monitor" doesn't show anything on the monitor.  Mouse & keyboard both work.
Then...when I switch the KVM over to port #1 (where I've got a Vista desktop), my laptop's LCD switched to 800x600 resolution (it was at 1440x900) and I thought that was weird.  So, I went in to display settings and set display 1's resolution back to 1440x900 and I now had the option to set display 2's resolution to 1680x1050.
Then, I switched my KVM back over to port 3 and I (momentarily) see my laptop's background displayed on my Acer monitor.  Both displays flash black and Acer monitor stays black, while laptop comes back.
Then if I switch  back to port 1 again, my laptop pops up a dialog titled "Full Screen Magnfier in Multi-Monitor mode" explaining how I can move windows from primary display to secondary by pressing Fn+Space.
Some things I haven't tried yet...
    * Bypass the KVM and see if the laptop can drive VGA or DVI outputs from the docking station properly.
    * Use my own VGA cable instead of the one bundled with the KVM.
    Ideas welcome...
    Thanx,
    Scott

  • My mac will not properly read the iphoto library on external hard drive.  It only reverts back to the library on the computer instead.

I have an iphoto library on an external drive, which I have connected to my airport extreme.  I can see the disk in my finder and access data on the external hard drive through the wireless, local network.  The only problem is that when I use my iMac, the machine does not read the iphoto library on the external harddrive, instead it picks up the library that's on the iMac itsel.  Is this a preferences list issue or something else?  Any help would be great, thank you.

A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • New HP PC will not properly recognize any mouse

I have a relatively new HP Pavilion HPE h9-1100z Phoenix CTO Desktop PC running Windows 7 Home Premium (64) that I bought a few months ago. In the last week, my mouse stopped working. It is whatever wireless mouse came with the computer. The keyboard, which uses the same dongle works, so I assumed it had to be the mouse. I replaced the batteries, reconnected to the dongle, and still does not move the cursor. It lights up, seems to connect just fine, it just doesn't do anything. I went and bought a really cheap wired usb mouse, and thought I had solved the problem. I plugged it in, windows found it and installed drivers, no errors. Still doesn't do anything. What does work is my drawing tablet. Its like a big laptop pad. It works as a temporary fix, but its not good enough. I checked Device Manager, found no errors. I have 3 HID-compliant mouse, and the Wacom Tablet under the mouse section. I thought that was strange, so I disconnected all other usb, had nothing in Device Manager. Plugged in the wired mouse. 3 HID-compliant mouse. That's the only thing that appears abnormal. I've updated all the drivers, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, had windows stop turning off power to usb ports, nothing is fixing the problem and windows doesn't seem to notice there is a problem. I checked both mice in my wife's windows 8 laptop, and they work fine.  What am I missing?

check in mouse settings which you will find in the control panel

  • Intermittent problem- send or comment buttons will not work- Reboot only sometimes fixes- does not happen in IE

Recently I have found that when in FB- the 'send' or 'comment' buttons do NOT work. I have also just found that the X along side a post - to get the dropdown to hide, etc- does not work either.
I have logged of and back on. I have closed firefox and restarted. I have cleared cache, cookies, etc. and then restarted firefox. Nothing works. It seems like this happened a few times and when I came back to the computer after several hours, it was ok. Most of the time I have to reboot.
While this is happening, some other functions work fine. For instance, if I click on HOME or PROFILE it works. Only seems to be the 'buttons'.
What's making me really crazy is that it is intermittent! And when it happens, if I open IE (ugh) it works fine.
Only fixes found at FB are to clear cache, cookies, etc. which I have already stated do nothing at all. Any ideas?

  • Elements 11 will not properly import from hard drive video of 352 x 480.  Audio is fine.

Hello All,  I'm wanting to import VHS video that was burned to a DVD.  Frame size is 352 x 480.  Elements shows it, even after rendering, as very distorted video on the monitor panel.  Audio is fine. Anybody here have an idea how to conform my video to the Project?

    alexmorgan43
    Thank you for the reply.
(Note: It would be better also to know...frame rate and progressive or interlaced video...NTSC or PAL setup...but for now....with some assumptions...
Although I have never run into a DVD-VIDEO video file with the 352 x 480 (4:3) resolution, it does exist apparently.
DVD-Video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From my perspective, if your client's goal is DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc for this source, I do not see that Premiere Elements (any version)
is going to produce a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc with video files 352 x 480 (4:3). It will give you (NTSC) 720 x 480 4:3 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second
    or (PAL) 720 x 576 4:3 @ 25 interlaced frames per second.
If your client can settle for your 352 x 480 (4:3) source exported to a file saved to the computer hard drive, then Premiere Elements 11 can give you a MPEG2.mpg
    file with a 352 x 480 4:3 resolution.
But, assuming the NTSC DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc workflow....with Frame Width = 480 pixels and Frame Height = 352 pixels...But if this is really portrait rather than
landscape oriented video, then we have other considerations not mentioned below....and I suspect we may be going in that direction...the answers will be in the details...
    1. Open Premiere Elements 11 to the Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
    2. In Change Setting, select
    NTSC
    FLIP
    Flip Mino and Ultra 29_97p
OK out of there. In the New Project dialog that next appears,
make sure that you have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Settings on This Project. OK out of there.
    3. Back in the Expert workspace, import your VTS_02_1.VOB using the project's Add Media/Files and Folders to get
the file into Projects Assets from where it is dragged to the Timeline.
(Typically the DVD-VIDEO's video files start with VTS_01_1.VOB, but not always. This may be one of those not always times. Just
check that your video is represented in those video files (VTS_).
    4. Edit, Add Menu if you want.
    5. Publish+Share/Disc/DVC disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD for the NTSC DVD-VIDEO Standard 4:3 on DVD disc
@ 29.97 interlaced frames per second.
    6. Moment of truth...what does that look like on your TV's DVD player.
Please review and consider and then we can fine tune if my assumptions did not meet your actual details.
    Thanks.

  • T400 will not charge while hibernating/sleeping

I've had my T400 for about a month now, and I simply cannot get it to charge while hibernating or sleeping. If the system is powered off or on, it charges just fine. I am using Vista x64 SP2 and have not noticed any other power related issues. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be causing this behavior? Thanks in advance.

I just want to preemptively state that the problem is not the battery thresholds. After all, at the same battery levels, the system charges just fine when completely shut down or powered on. Plus, right now the threshold is set to start charging below 75%, but even when my battery is under 10% it won't charge while the computer is sleeping/hibernating.

  • Cut the power to my iMac and now it will not complete rebooting when trying to restart

    Please can anybody help me?

When this happens to me, I like to work from the outside in.  Booting in safe mode can fix issues with with certain things not loading during boot.  Resetting the SMC can fix issues like the wrong boot volume specified or a non-standard startup drive.
I like to start with booting from a USB or in your case the install DVD (I see 10.6.7 if your sig).  From the install menu you can use disk utility to check out your boot volume and repair it.
If you can describe what you see when you reboot it would help people understand how far you are getting.  Also, do you boot to a login screen or straight to the desktop?  Did the power go out while booting or while working?
