T400 Windows 7 64bit - Multiple ThinkVantage Issues

Hi there, I've been searching for solutions on this and other forums dedicated to ThinkPads - but I'm at a loss on two pains.
ThinkPad T400 2764-CTO (2.53Ghz, 4GB Ram, 200GB Encrypted 7.2k RPM SATA, 14" LED backlit, 802.11abg, fingerprint scanner).
I'm running Windows 7 Professional, 64bit Volume Licensed installation, directly from Microsoft.
1. Fingerprint scanner refuses to work with the ThinkVantage software. If I allow windows to install the Windows Update recommended drivers and software - it works fine. I've done clean installations of Win7 without WU running and then installed the latest FPR driver/app from Lenovo.com - still fails.
The errors I get are "Cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm sensor is ready." It's not able to tell me how many slots are free nor is it able to erase any of the existing fingerprints. I've also erased the stored fingerprints in the BIOS.
When I reboot, all I get is "Please wait..." The only way to login is to choose my username.
2. Rescue and Recovery 4.3 will not install. I continue to get Error 25014. There was an error installing the Rescue and Recovery boot manager. Return code: 6
Again, I've done a full clean installation and followed the recommendations in the installation instructions to the letter.
On both these issues I've done full clean installations with Windows 7 trying to find a solution that works. I was hoping to be able to post a fix, but now I've come looking for assistance. My next stop is to call support and hope someone has another option.
T400 - 2.53Ghz CoreDuo - 4GB Ram - 200GB 7.2kRPM Encrypted HDD - LED Backlit Screen, Web Cam.

Hi,
1. Do I understand it correctly, that when you upgrade the Wind updates, then it wirks fine? Please note, that for the correct work of FPR it's needed to have certain Win updates installed. Howerver, in case you mean, that if you just enable the Windows updates adn don't install any update and it works, then that is weird. More details would be appreciated.
Try also to runn following file:
%windir%\system32\ATupdatePBA.exe
This will re-synchronize the FPR sensor.
2. This error means, that RnR could not loacte and/ro change the Boot manager of the system, so that you will have the boot option to start into the RnR PDA (PreDesktor Area).
In this situation you have there the option to dissable the Windows UAC, or to install RnR without the PDA option.
Let me know, if this situation change if you dissable the UAC, or if you want to install RnR without the boot option. I can provide more info on this.
I'm not sure, if a regular support will help you out with this one. However, might also work.
Cheers

  • T400 Windows 7 64bit Can't Find Printer Driver

    Hi all,
Perhaps someone can  help with this puzzling problem. Just bought the T400 w/Win 7 64 bit from the Lenovo website. It is great except one thing.
I have a Win2k T22 ThinkPad on the network with a parallel port HP laserjet 6L and a USB port HP DeskJet 970cxi. When I go to add a printer on the T400, Win7 searches the network and finds the printers. For the 6L it downloaded a driver and it works fine. For the 970cxi it tries to find a driver from MS website but can not find a driver.
When I connect the970cxi printer directly to a USB port on the Win7 T400 it finds a driver and it works fine. But not over the network? Even after it found a driver when it was connected locally?
On the network is a Debian Linux computer that can print to both printers. I turned on printer sharing on it. The T400 can find the printers on the Linux box and can print to both the 6L and 970cxi.
I loaded VirtualBox on the T400 and then install Ubuntu Linux. The Ubunu Linux can find the printers and can print to both.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on here? Why can't the T400 find a driver for the 970cxi printer but when it's connected directly it finds the printer driver and works?
    Is this a Win7 64 bit issue?
    No driver available?
    Communication problem w/printer?
Buy a new printer and throw out a perfectly good printer?
    Thanks,
    Rich
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I did as you suggested but now get a different error: 0x00000214
I googled this and found others with the same problem. Tried the solution and it worked!
    Here's the link:
    Network Printer Problem Link
In case the link gets broken I cut and pasted it here:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.
    2. Click Add a Printer.
    3. Select "Add a local printer".
    4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port.
    5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format.
\\Network address of the host computer\[The Share Name of the printer
    Then click Next.
    6. Choose the correct driver in the driver list. If no available driver, click the button Windows Update, wait for the process finishes and then look for the driver again.
    7. Finish the installation.
Thanks! Your suggection got me to an error I could identify. And a solution. I hope others find this helpful.

  • T400 Windows 7 64Bit install

I currently have windows 7 32bit installed and want to install 64bit. Laptop won't boot into install disk and just restarts into windows. Boot order is set to cd/dvd rom and I have verified with a 32bit windows 7 disk and that one will start the install but 64bit will not?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You need to shutdown cold from a clean boot into the existing drive's OS before you'll be able to boot from the DVD.
So boot the HD all the way. Then total shutdown to the power off state. Wait and try again on powering on. If the boot order is in fact correct it will boot. If not there should be an F key such as F10 or F12 to prompt to select a different boot source and lists them.
I presume you have the current BIOS installed on that 400? As for the above Windows does not allow for some reason booting to another device if there was an crash, error in the previous attempt it always wants to go back to that drive.

  • Windows 7 64bit BSOD issue

I've been recently getting some BSOD on my pc (win7 64bit) and for the life of me I can't figure out what's causing them. I've run memtest and didn't find any issues. One thing I've noticed is that it will sometimes sit at the login screen and just repeatedly
cycle through that and there isn't anything I can do but hold the power button down. It's almost like I entering a password incorrectly and sends me back to the login screen only to blow right past that without allowing me to enter a password.
I've uploaded my minidump file to skydrive. If someone could take a look and let me know what the issue might be I would really appreciate it.
    https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=818BC808CAF94AA7!651&authkey=!AESwFMlAq6xI8DA&ithint=file%2c.zip
    Thanks,
    Jason

I'll answer what I can right now since I'm at work.
BSOD - I can login and use the machine at times without much issue. Occasionally the system will BSOD on me randomly. One thing for sure that happens almost every time is the looping at the login screen. I've got my system password protected so you must
login. Anyway what happens is that if I leave my PC on for any given amount of time and come back to the PC the login screen is looping. What I mean by this is that instead of allowing me to enter a password it appears one was already entered or the system
thinks one has and then quickly goes to the waiting screen, you see briefly it didn't login then back to password prompt without allowing me to enter a pwd and then right back to the waiting screen for the attemted login. It just keeps looping like that without
stopping. Only way to get out of this is to hit the reset button or hold the power button down.
I've re-installed windows multiple times hoping it was something that would be fixed by the install (clean install). This is Windows 7 64bit Ultimate edition.
Graphics - I am not using onboard graphics - I have this disabled.
Memory - The memory that I have is rated as ddr3-1600 but it's only running at 1333 (would need to overclock it to get 1600) - runs at 1333 by default.
I'm currently downloading and installing update to the bios, mb drivers, etc and then will run another test to see if this helps at all.
I'll also look at the memory to make sure it's supported for my MB and CPU.
let me know if I forgot anything.
    Thanks,
    Jason

Ipod Touch 4th generation 32G not turning on, not charging.
I have used multiple cords on both computer USB and wall USB converters. I let it sit there for over 20 min with each attempt.
It is not being detected by Itunes or my Windows 7 64bit OS. I have tried all 4 of my USB ports (both USB 2.0 and 3.0), with 3 different chargers.
Holding home and power button will not reset.
Tried taking it out of "DFU" mode but Itunes won't detect it, I didn't think that would work anyway.
NO DAMAGE, I have been very careful with it, aside from a few minor scratches. (that you can't even see unless the light reflects them)
My Itunes is up to date, as is my OS.
All I'm getting is a blank black screen. It has been working fine on this computer before. I have no idea what could have happened. I'm at my wits end here.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3 ) & Windows 7 64Bit Boot Issue

    Hi,
I feel the need to revisit this old forum post as I do not believe it has been fully resolved:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=156082.0
In summary the issue is "Most times the machine boots and performs flawlessly for hours, but often it boots with the Windows-7 “need to repair” screen and after running repair for a while Windows says: “Windows cannot repair the problem”…….but when I press the Reset button, the PC boots and runs just fine".
I only had the problem since updating from 1F beta 2 to the latest BIOS version. On the original forum thread there are some that had the view that the issue was introduced around BIOS version 1.F (full release, non-beta) and 1.G. Just to confirm this issue NEVER happened for me on 1F beta 2 or earlier BIOS releases. The original forum also has some people saying the issue did not exist on earlier BIOS versions as well.
Most people seem to have solved the issue by either resetting the CMOS or loading default BIOS settings. I tried this and it did initially solve the problem for me.
BUT when I installed new drivers (such as nvidia v301.24) or added new hardware (e.g. Bigfoot PCIe network gaming card) the problem came back.
This implies to me that there is an issue with the BIOS and that resetting the CMOS is a workaround rather than a true fix.
This leaves me with two choices:
    - use an older BIOS, which is ok but limits me from the new functionality in the BIOS (including not being able to use certain hardware that the BIOS updates support)
    - resetting the CMOS after loading new drivers or installing new hardware and then configure my settings (which is very tedious)
Neither option is ideal to me.
The main purpose of raising this issue is to ask whether MSI Support know of this issue and have it on their bug list to fix?
I am concerned it is not being addressed as other forum entries talk about BIOS version 1.K3 being the last version.
My system details are P67-GD65(B3), Windows 7 64bit, 16GB Gskill 2133Mhz memory, 2 SSD, 2HDD, Nvidia 570 GTX, Bigfoot network gaming card.

Thank you _MELK_ for bringing us your experience.
It was already reported that this bug did not appear with older firmware versions.
It is interesting to know that version 1.14 does not have this bug.
This information should help the MSI support team to create a 1.K reliable firmware.
In my opinion, I do not think that Intel RST is the cause of this bug.
    Sure thing momosala..
An update to this issue is as follow...
BIOS 1.14 fixed this issue completely. NO errors since I flashed back to it.   I also reinstalled Intel RST without any issue either.
Note that I wanted 1.19 for another reason as well (fix for USB 3.0 port issues).  I wound up flashing the chipset for the USB ports themselves instead  .    Now the MB works as intended!  :D
WARNING: use the info below with CAUTION (not simple to do, and not provided/supported by MSI afaik)
INFO on USB 3.0 firmware/drivers -- again, use CAUTION and do your research before proceeding!
Note that it took me a few hours to complete the flash since I had to research which version of the chipset I had (hardware ID helped, LOTS of reading on the subject as well to find out HOW to flash my board properly).
You can find the drivers/firmware for the "Renesa USB 3.0 Host controller" by searching google for
    Driver: Renesas/Nec Usb 3.0 Version 3.0.23.0/2.1.39.0 WHQL.
I used the 2.1.39.0 drivers -- you'll find the firmware at the same place and an explanation on how to flash the chipset we have on the P67A-GD65 (which has TWO identical chips to flash).  The new firmware updater doesn't work on those, so you need to download an older firmware to use the older DOS program to flash with the newer .MEM files.

If you set all of the configurations the same as your 32-bit server, you may not be properly optimized. There are a couple of ODTUG Kaleidoscope presentations that talk about 64-bit optimization:

  • PC Suite 6.82 Windows XP 64bit Bluetooth Issue

    Hi,
I've been stuggling all week with an issue with PC Suite and bluetooth. I'm running Windows XP 64bit, service pack 1, WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 5.1.0.1700, a Kensington USB 2.0 bluetooth dongle, and PC Suite 6.82.22.0. I have no trouble connecting to my phone (a NOkia 6102i) via 'My Bluetooth Places', and I can also connect using the trial version of Oxygen's Phone Manager Software.
If I launch PC Suite and then open the connection manager it gives me four options: Bluetooth (Microsoft), Infrared, Serial Cable, or USB. This in itself doesn't seem right, as I understand it the Bluetooth option should say Bluetooth (WIDCOMM).
If I select the Bluetooth option I get the following error message: "Cannot use the connection type. Check that all the needed hardware, software and drivers are available. (Code: OpoenMedia).
I have tried reinstalling the software, and the bluetooth drivers. I've tried different versions of PC Suite (6.8, 6.81). I have even tried a different bluetooth dongle (iogear) all to no avail.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Have you tried to use microsoft BT stack?
if you want to try to use MS BT driver:
    1. Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware and Device Manager.
    2. Open Bluetooth Devices (or Radios), select that device, click Action, Uninstall and OK.
    3. Click Action and Scan for hardware changes.
(windows should automatic update install MSBT drivers)
    4. After that there should be "Microsoft Bluotooth Enumerator" installed also.
(-> Does the MSBT work any better??)

  • T400 Windows XP Random Freezes / Lockups (no BSOD) - Intel Wireless issue?

    Hi,
I installed Windows XP Pro SP3 on my new Thinkpad T400 purchased a few days ago. I installed all the latest drivers and thinkvantage software from the drivers matrix.
For two days now the system randomly freezes. The screen freezes, i cannot move the mouse or keyboard. Some FN buttons like the Thinklight still work, the rest does not and it ultimately requires a force power off by holding the power button pressed.
Interestingly enough the Wireless symbol still blinks even when the laptop is frozen. When i turn off the wireless switch, the bluetooth icon will turn off, yet the wireless KEEPS blinking (normally both turn off when the wireless switch is turned off).
I originally had the lenovo intel wireless 5100 drivers, now tried the intel.com drivers, no avail, same issue. The system also freezes when just sitting idle. I have not yet tried if the freezes occur with wireless turned off, will try later...
Kind of annoying as i had various BSODs due to the lenovo intel Matrix Storage driver (the original intel one made it go away), now this problem...is XP just not really supported by this machine?
