T400 & Windows 7 speedstep problem?

I'm running Windows 7 RTM on a T400 with an Intel P8400 (2.26GHz), and I noticed using CPU-z that the frequency on the most frugal power save mode is GHz instead of 800Mhz. I believe I have installed all of the Windows 7 beta drivers.
I believe that the P8400 should be able to run at 800Mhz, right? Any clue on what's holding it back?
On a sidenote, I checked using performance monitor that the CPU is entering C3 states, if that means anything.
Thanks,
Kai

  • T400 Windows XP Random Freezes / Lockups (no BSOD) - Intel Wireless issue?

    Hi,
I installed Windows XP Pro SP3 on my new Thinkpad T400 purchased a few days ago. I installed all the latest drivers and thinkvantage software from the drivers matrix.
For two days now the system randomly freezes. The screen freezes, i cannot move the mouse or keyboard. Some FN buttons like the Thinklight still work, the rest does not and it ultimately requires a force power off by holding the power button pressed.
Interestingly enough the Wireless symbol still blinks even when the laptop is frozen. When i turn off the wireless switch, the bluetooth icon will turn off, yet the wireless KEEPS blinking (normally both turn off when the wireless switch is turned off).
I originally had the lenovo intel wireless 5100 drivers, now tried the intel.com drivers, no avail, same issue. The system also freezes when just sitting idle. I have not yet tried if the freezes occur with wireless turned off, will try later...
Kind of annoying as i had various BSODs due to the lenovo intel Matrix Storage driver (the original intel one made it go away), now this problem...is XP just not really supported by this machine?

Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Windows file permissions problems

We have an Xserve G5 that was running Server 10.3. I upgraded it directly to Server 10.5. Since then, I am having problems with some of our Windows users.
When they create a new folder, it puts them as the owner, but gives them NO rights. I am using ACLs to give full rights to the group that needs access, and also setting the POSIX group rights to read/write. So once they leave that folder, they can no longer get back in. I have SMB set to inherit rights from the parent, and the ACL is set to inherit as well. Other people in the group can access the folder, just not the owner! I change the owner permissions and all is well (for that folder at least). How do I need to set SMB so it follows the inheritance I set?
Once I have the folder set correctly, any new files created there have the POSIX group set to read only. The ACL inherits properly and still has full control. The owner is set correctly, usually. It is not consistent.
Once someone creates a file in any folder, if a Windows user modifies a file someone else created, it changes the owner name and gives them no rights. It also creates a new ACL record. If the original owner was a Mac user, it creates a new explicit ACL with all rights except execute and delete. If the file has ACL records already, it duplicates them and gives whatever rights it feels like (it seems). One new record may say Allow Delete only, and the next one say Allow Read except for execute. The only thing for certain is it will never match the original ACL. It always adds the new ACLs at the top of the list, and the duplicates are grayed out as if they were actually inherited that way. The most 'popular' file I've found so far had 128 "inherited" ACL records!
It is also denying access to some folders that the user has the correct permissions for. For instance, I can create/modify/delete files logged in on the Mac side, but when I log in on Windows, I have problems accessing files/folders. It shows everything as read only. Even if I change the properties in Windows, it will revert back to read-only when I apply the change.
We have a new Xserve that we will be moving the file services to. At that time, all the Windows users will be moved completely to the Mac side - currently the Windows users are accessing the Xserve and a Novell server.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Thy,
Based on my research, the Trusted Installer is a service, for those resources which only allow Trusted Installer to modify, neither Administrator nor System can modify them.
I am wondering that how secure the network and physical environment is that you need to create a GPO to prevent users making permissions changes on system files. These system files normally only can be modified by Administrators,
System or Trusted Installer, which is secure enough when we don’t add users we don’t trust enough to Administrators group.
    >What is the best way to undo this while leaving the audit failures turned on and still retaining the correct permissions on all the files?
As long as administrators on these machines are qualified, you can remove the Group Policy. If not, please don’t make any user you don’t trust as Administrator.
    >What happens to the files that aren't owned trustedinstalled than now have the trustedinstaller default permissions under system32 and syswow64 if I were to remove the gpo?  What file  permissions would be retained?
We should keep the default permissions, if those files weren’t owned by Trusted Installer before, we should change the original owner back, vice versa.

  • ISight - connects with windows users no problem?

I'd like to buy this webcam, but I heard it has problems connecting with windows users. Will I be able to talk to people on it through AIM? Thats what I'd like, if not, I probably wont get it. Anyone have any personal experience or have any answers or helpful tips - I'd appreciate anything - thanks.

It is not the iSight itself that gives you the impression that connecting with Micros~1 Windows users causes problems ... it is the availability of (cross platform) applications that makes connecting a bit more cumbersome.
I have PowerMac G5 with iSight and I connect with my Micros~1 Windows platform family equiped with and without USB webcam.
The challenge will be to find messaging / VoiP applications with bearable audio quality and reasonable video performance.
I started with Skype for Voice and Yahoo! messenger for bad video ( 1-2 fps and video size 320 x 240).
Skype has a video plugin (only for Windows)
Yahoo! Messenger does not have voice yet (2.5.3)
MSN is badmouthing because of the "M"
I have used iChat with another Apple believer ... and the quality of Voice and Video is unparralled.
The best two alternatives I found are:
    a) AIM 5.9
    b) Trillian (www.trillian.cc)
Both use a free AIM screen name.
AIM works fine, see also EZJim pages.
TrillianPro 3.1 reuses AIM screen names ... and ... it has both good audio and zoom-to-full-screen-video size with fps rates filling your bandwidth.
The only negative on Trillian so far, the "handshake" for connecting two people takes some time.
TrillianBase is free but has no Video capabilities. The Pro version is 25$.

ps. if you want to test your setup use my AIM screenname: coenjeukens

You may select how and whether Firefox updates, although like most software it may be sensible to keep it up-to-date, it is more likely to remain secure and compatible with other software whilst up to date.

  • Mat****a UJ-8315: Error message - windows found a problem

I'm trying to copy a film to a dvd/cd and the windows always display the message: windows found a problem.....what might be wrong ?

    Hi
Usually its not possible to copy the original DVD movies with the simply burning application because of the copy protection.
Did you get also this same error message if you will copy simple files on the CD or DVD? If not so I assume the medias are copy protected and therefore its not possible to burn the medias.
The second possibility is that you use not compatible medias. Usually in the user manual of your notebook you will find a list of tested and supported medias which should work properly.

I bought a scanner Fujitsu (model sv600) in which is delivered a CD of installation of Acrobat 11 for Windows. The problem is that I possess an iMac. How can it be done?

This page ScanSnap SV600 : Fujitsu Global shows that Acrobat is for Windows, not for Mac. There is no trade-up option so far as I know. Indeed, Acrobat Standard does not exist for Mac at all, only Acrobat Pro. Which you could buy.
Or, you can invest in Parallels Desktop which will allow you to run Windows apps on your Mac.

  • Windows 2000 boot problem

I have just moved my system to the new MX-6585 board - Did an Windows 2000 "upgrade" to initiate total hardware scan.
System works ok, when it has booted, but booting is sooo slow.
Found a Microsoft article describing the problem:
    SYMPTOMS
After you choose to start Windows from the Boot menu, you may experience a long delay (or pause) before your computer finishes starting. Note that this delay may range from 10 seconds to a minute. Also, this delay occurs before the Starting Windows progress bar appears, and your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) during this time.
    CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows is installed on a drive or a partition to which Windows cannot gain access with normal Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) INT-13 or INT-13 extension calls. When Windows Setup determines it cannot use BIOS calls to start, it uses scsi() or signature() syntax in the Boot.ini file instead of multi() syntax.
My question is: Does MX-6585/BIOS in any way hinder the INT-13 calls to my Adaptec 2940???

Thanks! I sent the following message:
There are no IDE devices in my system, only SCSI. My hd is an IBM Ultrastar 36XP DRHS-36D. When I start the system up, the SCSI & MSI BIOS screens display normally, then BOOT.INI appears. After I select one of my NT-type OS's (NT4, W2K, WXP), there is a 30-second delay between the time I press the Enter key at the BOOT.INI screen and the time the OS actually starts to boot. (The BOOT.INI countdown time is limited to 5 seconds. I am *not* talking about this time.)
Since the same hardware was transferred from another installation (with a non-MSI mb) in which the same Adaptec drivers were used but this 30-second delay did not occur, the delay appears to be due to the MSI BIOS. Interestingly, W98 is also installed on this hd and it appears in the BOOT.INI list. When I start up W98, the 30-second delay does not occur -- as soon as I press the Enter key, W98 starts to boot.
Other end users have complained about this same boot delay. See the post "Windows 2000 boot problem" found in the MSI user forum here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=6970&boardid=10&page=1
I'd estimate our chances of success at 1%. Still, it's far better to complain and not be heard than never complain. That way, we get to complain even more.

  • SpeedStep Problem T7300

    Hello together,
I have a two years old ThinkPad X61 with an Intel Core2 T7300 Processor which has a maximal Frequency of 2GHz.
My ThinkVantage Power Manager has following settings:
    ·         on battery the maximal Frequency is set to “low” which is about 800 Mhz.
    ·         with a power supply the maximal Frequency is set to “highest” which is 2000 Mhz.
On the battery is everything ok.
But when I connect the power supply the CPU accelerates at first 1 or 2 minutes to 2 GHz as it should be, but then goes down to 800MHz. If I fully load the CPU (e.g 5 youtube videos) it stays at 800MHz and is 100% loaded.
I have tried some settings and options in the Power Manager, but it didn’t change anything.  The only thing I could finger out is: if I reactivate my profile in the Power manager it accelerates the CPU to 2GHz, but again only for 1-2 minutes. Then the speed goes down to about 800 MHz even if the CPU is fully loaded at all this time.
I have done all windows updates and ThinkVantage updates. I have Windows XP and Windows 7 and the behavior is the same on both OSs.
The behavior of the CPU is very strange, so I cannot figure out if it is software or a hardware problem.
Maybe you could have some ideas …
