T400 wireless type

I bought T400 7417-CTO at last December. It has wireless LAN inside. But I forgot what type this has, a, b, or g, n? How can I investigate the type of wireless LAN of this machine?

  • Can you change T400 wireless network card??

I am eyeing a used T400 but it comes with an older a/g wireless card- Can I replace it with a newer draft-N pci-mini card internally?  Will it integrate well? Any particular brand to use?

    @ortegaluis,
Thanks.  The question remains (in my little pea-brain anyway) is the card white-listed by MFGR and model, or does it have to be from Lenovo?  That is, can I install an Intel 5100 from the local store, or do I have to order from big L?
    @wp746911.
Apologies for hijacking your thread.  I may be mis-reading it (wouldn't be the first time) but it would be too bad if you bought a card you couldn't use.  BTW, I have swapped Intel 5100s and 5300s (from Lenovo) in and out of my T400 and it isn't that big a deal.  Just read the manual and take your time

  • T400 Wireless Wan/Mobile Broadband device not found

Using T400 and check the parts in lenovo site; shows only WLAN 5100 CARD and no WWLAN card. What do I to have this working?

I couldn't find your system on the support site, maybe it's too new. Are you sure that you ordered with WWAN and not an upgradeable T400? All systems will have the SIM slot.
Go to this site and enter your type and serial numbers, then click on continue. This will present you with a list of components used to build your system, hopefully a WWAN module will be listed.

  • T400 wireless lan timeouts

    Hi,
is there anybody else using the most recent Intel Wifi drivers from the Lenovo support page with the 5100? (Version 12.4.0.21)
I'm encountering lots of timeouts when doing pings, and sometimes I even can't connect to web pages. This occurs on TWO T400s after upgrading the driver.
Does someone know a solution? (Downgrading the driver helps, but is not what I want, especially because I prefer the new user interface of ProSET)
    Thanks,
    Hans

    Hi there,
I sort of had this problem to before.. I have the same driver version as well (intel Wifi link 5100) . What happen to me was my webpages and all other internet software (e.g. msn or gtalk) didnt load, while it shows that I am stil connected to the internet on the 'wireless network connection" or in "thinkvantage access connection". But I cant load any website untill I disconnect and reconnect.
so I finally reformatted my T400. and now my wifi works perfectly fine.
if you have the time and effort then I would say try reformatting it =)

  • Lenovo T400 Wireless Conncetion Problem!

Hi, I have a Lenovo T400 Laptop. Recently, I got some problems in connecting to wireless networks. My laptop can find available wireless networks. I can see "Access Connections" menu with available networks. When I click on "Connect" to access a network, a menu bar appears showing that WIFI is trying to connect to the network. However, after a couple of minutes the connection fails in "waiting for IP configuration" step. I tried it with different networks and got the same problem. I would be very grateful if someone can help me about this problem. Regards, Ali

Okay, that sounds like a faulty intel wireless card, i had couple of them doing that. Do you have warranty remaining?

  • T400 wireless hardware problems

It seems that my wireless adapter is not detected at all - almost feels like 7 small gnomes came the other night and silently lifted it out of my laptop! There is simply no network adapter in Windows Device Manager, the green wireless led indicator remains switched off at all times. I checked that I have not disabled wireless hardware switch (I have not, and bluetooth works just fine), and that I have not disabled it in BIOS (reloaded BIOS defaults to be sure). Furthermore, it was working fine until today when it suddently died. Does anyone have a faint hope that I can solve this without involving Lenovo Tech support? I am running Windows 7 (and Ubuntu 9.10), neither of which now detect my WLAN card. The WIFI card was manufactured by Realtek, it is 8192E model, came standard on my T400.

    Hi blackdoggy,
    Watch out for those gnomes!
Have you sent your T400 in for service? Looks like you may have.
Was thinking it's possible that your WiFi card became loose in its internal slot. Another member recently fixed a similar problem by removing then re-installing his WiFi card. The Hardware Maintenance Manual (available from Lenovo Support downloads) has instructions, and you can watch a video at:
    http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/
(Look at the video for the T61 / R61, which is physically nearly identical to your T400)
The WiFi card is considered a customer replaceable unit, and it will not void your warranty to remove/replace it.
    Best regards,
    Frank

  • T400 wireless card

I bought a T400 notebook a couple of days ago. When I got it, I realized I made a mistake by not choosing wireless card for the notebook. I was not able to find a solution for this. Please help me figure out what to do to make up my mistake. Thanks a lot!

I had similar problems with my T400, the status light would switch off and the adapter would completely disappear from device manager. Turns out it was a faulty wireless card, got it replaced and the computer is running fine now. You could try and swap out your card with a working one and see if that helps.

  • T400 wireless card help

    Hi all,
My T400 lately has been having problems with its wireless. It used to just be that the computer would some times randomly drop me and say there were no connections nearby when I had been connected to my home internet for a few hours in a row. A restart would fix this.
However, in the last few days, it's been happening more and more frequently. If i hit Fn+F5, it would only show my bluetooth, but no option to activate my wireless antenna (it IS on btw). Checking the device manager, the wireless card is not visible, and some times upon hitting refresh and re-search for hardware, it shows up again, only to intermittantly drop out of visibility on the device manager again and back on.
My computer is less than 6 months old (got it in December), does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

go into your control panel, system, device manager and right click on the wireless card and select property.
Under the property page, select maximum power output, switch off any power saving feature and select roaming aggressiveness to low.

  • T400 wireless conection problem

I reload my T400 with Windows xp.sp2 recovery DVD. Then upgrade to xp.sp3 and renew all drivers(bios & firmware) with the latest at Lenovo website.
After that, I have problem for wireless connection after startup. Browser shows "website xxx, found waiting for reply...",  no connection at the end. My wirelesscard is Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN, T400 27671G.
Checking the system event viewer, it gives an error & warning:
    -------------------Service Control manager
The SessionLauncher service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.
    ------------------ dhcp warning
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address xxxxxxx.  The following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
    Anyone has the same issue?
    Appreciate any advice...

    Hi LANOgre,
firstly the link you provided goes to empty place.
I have this Lenovo T400 new ThinkPad and its detecting all Wirless routers in my neighbourhood but not my new Netgear Super G WGT624 wireles router.
I have another laptop Dell Latitude in the same household 630 with Which I can connect to the Netgear router.
What is the reason, if there some kind of mismatch in the Wireless drivers, or its the hardware.
I am stuck up with Laptop and the router.
    thanks

  • T400 - Wireless adapter Intel 5350 problem

The wireless would shut off for some unknown reason when there the laptop is ideal. If I try to power it up, it won't work.  I have to power cycle the laptop to get it working again. This has happened 2 times in last 2 days. It wasn't the problem until then.
Does anyone know or have an idea about  what could be the problem?
    Thanks

    Hi
Please change the Power Saving settings of the Wlan network adaptor  to Maximum Performance
Also Uncheck the Option  under Power managment
    1. Allow the computer to turn off this device to save Power
2.Allow this Device to bring the computer out of standby

  • T400 wireless WPA2 Enterprise LEAP (user/name/domain options missing)

    Hi all;
In the network and sharing center, I don't appear to have the option for LEAP authentication/encryption.  Just MS PEAP.  I usually use a name/password/domain passphrase, not a shared key.
It is a Cisco wireless router.
    Ideas?

I used ThinkVantage Access Connections v5.61 for connecting LEAP with a TKIP password on my T60 for work, and it works great. Using a location profile that also includes LAN, it swithes between the two nicely.
    You could try Access Connections.

  • Connecting a MacBook to an external TV source wirelessly

Im not familiar with and would be great if somebody can help me sort out a way to connect to my Samsung Plasma with my MacBook through a wireless type of network. Im currently using a cable, HDMI / DVI to mini DVI to MacBook and it works great for displaying and mirroring the contents on my desktop etc. The biggest problem is I would like some freedom to move about and not be tied to a 6ft. of cable and sit under the TV. I have read a little about the AppleTV, and it sounds like its on the track to doing to what I'm trying but doesn't exactly say that. Is Apple TV my closest option for this, or can I use some type of Airport network to do this?
    Help is greatly appreciated..

Hi there and welcome to the forum.
I too tried to do this. I couldn't find a way to connect it wirelessly, but I did come up with another solution that works.
I simply plug my laptop into the tv using the cables you describe, so in effect the tv screen becomes the laptop's monitor. I then simply use a wireless mouse and keyboard to control the machine.
Apple TV is just really a wireless hard drive that can play media through your tv set. So if you just want to view movies and music through the tv then it works fine. If you want to do more though, e.g. use other softwear/use the tv as a larger monitor or play DVDs etc then the Apple TV on its own is not enough. It will not play all types of video either without some conversion work etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • T400 will be hang up while idle after 30 mins or more..............

I am vendor, customer reports that two of IBM T400 notebook, type 6474-RL7 have a same problem, when it's idle after 30 mins or more and need to log on , no prompt "log on screen box" , try to press "ctrl+alt+del" still no response, only mouse cursors  can be move, but if less time like as 10 mins idles, it's functional have "log on screen box",  I already called to Leno Technical support ,they said it's similar to software or driver problem, not a hardware
my customer software configuration is below:
windows XP sp3 not the lastest windows update patch (the original factory with nb  is windows sp2 )
general software is installed: ms office 2003, IBM original software ,McAfee antivirus
what's the conflict  with nb software???

You need to ask them run system update from lenovo utilities first.
Than you can check Events for system and for application from Computer managment - it might give you some indication regarding problems and abnormal activities, You click right mouse on My computer and select Manage - Computer managment will appear.

  • Pbms w T400 after bios update: long time to boot, TPM&internet connect pbms

    Hello,
I have a T400 thinkpad, type 7417 that I bought in the US in Nov 2008 (it was downgraded from vista to xp). In November 2011 the computer was running slow so I decided to clean it up a bit and then do the maintenance recommended by the thinkvantage program. I proceeded to do all the smaller updates and the last one that was recommended was updating the BIOS (from what I understood). I left the computer doing these updates overnight, making sure it was plugged into a power source as specified by the update.
The next morning I found that my computer took 5-10minutes to start up and when it did, the screen resolution was altered as if it was in safe mode or something…I removed the HD and saved my data, then tried to use the Rescue and Recovery program to revert to factory settings. Although it seems that the factory settings were indeed restored I still have many problems with the computer. 1. it takes 5-10min to start (blank screen pre-windows logo) 2. it gives me 2 error messages once it has booted: 2a. "Tvttcsd application has encountered a pbm and needs to close." 2b. "There was a pbm connecting to the tpm (security devie) on this computer. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection. A missing or disabled driver could also cause this problem. Please refer to the online documentation for more information." 3. it cannot connect to the internet (either wifi or ethernet) 4. Ad-aware tells me it detects a malicious program running but cannot seem to clear it. I have seen several threads about these problems but cannot figure out if they are all connected or not. Before touching anything I was hoping for some help on how to proceed - I am no expert but I can follow instructions I am currently running avast on the computer to hopefully get rid of whatever viruses there may be and see if that can solve the problem. All help is really really welcome please!!!! lore

When I try to look into the Windows firewall I get the following error message:
"Cannot start Windows firewall/internet connection sharing service."
Not sure if both of these are related or not. Any ideas? Would re-installing windows help?
Thanks so much for your help! lore
Did you "optimize" your computer with "Tuneup utilities"? This might cause problems like that.
Also check, whether the services "Windows Firewall" is set to start "Automatic" and running.
Third party desktop-firewall like Zonealarm, Kaspersky or Symantec Internet Security also can cause that problem. In that case remove it including all policies, test the connection and re-install it. Activate training-mode and disallow automatic blocking unknown outgoing connections.
