  • Desktop turned off but wireless connection stay active?

I have a Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router and have it connnected to my Cable modem thru my desktop. My question is this I thought my deskptop would always need to be on for the wireless connection to stay active but I turned off my desktop and I still have a wireless connection with my laptop. Is this normal? I do not know much at all about networks. If it is normal why did I need to do all the setip stuff on the desktop? Thanks for any info on this.

OK, that makes more sense. It's not going through your desktop at all. So it doesn't matter whether your desktop is turned on or off, or even if you've sold it on eBay.
Well, it doesn't matter until you want to use it. Then it does...

  • Wireless connection not working after installed newest Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update programs

    ThinkPad Power Management Driver version 1.60;

Also in Device Manager, there are now the two "Other devices" bellow with a yellow question point and a yellow exclamation point by side:
    Bluetooth Hands-free Audio;
    Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver.
Does anyone have any idea what can be done to have these issues solved?
P.S.: when I click Fn+F5 it shows only the Bluetooth Radio.

    Hello and welcome,
I've seen something like this on XP machines after updates a couple of times now - my T61, a friend's T400, and his daughter's T61.  I guess that makes 3
_Maybe_  your situation is the same.
The fix in all 3 cases was to go to device manager and uninstall the wifi driver.  Then scan for hardware changes and let it reinstall the driver.  Something about how Access Connections or some other networking mangement thingy was hooking the drivers I guess.
On both of the friend's machines, the wired networking was also b0rked.  Same fix there.

  • Wireless connection not restored immediately after sleep

    Hi,
Since I have updated to Mavericks (OS X 10.9.1), my wireless connection doesn't restore automatically anymore after sleep.
This recently also started to happen when I boot my computer. I always have to click the wifi icon, select my network and then it still says "can't connect to network".
When I click the wifi icon and select my network a second time, it works.
I have tried setting the order of network services (WiFi first, then Bluetooth and finally Thunderbolt bridge), deleting my saved home network and adding it again, deleting all other saved wireless networks.
What can I do to fix this?
    Thank you.

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.

  • WIRELESS CONNECTION NOT ALLOWED

My WRT160N router will not allow me to connect via WI-FI.  On the Linksys EasyLink Advisor...it will not even allow me to select "Wireless Connection" as an option under "Select a Connection Method.
    HELP!

    pbireton,
What is the operating system of your wireless computers/devices that were not able to connect to the network? I suggest that you set the router's wieless settings. Go to http://192.168.1.1 leave the username blank and type admin as the password. Then go to Wireless tab, set it to Manual and change the Channel to 11. You may actually use other channels like channel 6, 1, 9, and other channels. Choose the onw with the best result.

  • Thunderbolt connection not active between iMAC Late 2013 and MBA Late 2013

    Hi,
I'm not able anymore to connect again the iMac and MBA by Thunderbolt cable. Some months ago I was able to use iMac as MBA external display and to activate Thunderbolt bridge. Now, the bridge is not active also if cable is connected. Is there some steps to do to reactivate the connection.
    Thank you.

  • Equium M40x - Wireless Connection not working

I have recently changed ISP from Orange to Virgin [cable] I was using the Orange provided Livebox with my Laptop and there were no connection issues. Virgin have supplied me with a Netgear WGR614 wireless router.
Now my Equim will not connect to it. Can anyone offer a newbie some help or advice? Is there a driver update needed or will i need to purchase a new wireless card for my laptop? Currently my wireless network connection is via an Atheros AR5005GS.

Do you see the wlan of your router and can you connect to it? Remember, you have to enter encryption key again for your new router.
If not, I think the trick with Netgear router is, to enable wlan functionality.
To do so, you have to connect router with normal lan cable. Then enter IP adress of router in internet browser, you can find this information in manual with username and password too.
Try this, as I don't know what exactly is your problem with your wireless connection.

  • Wireless connection not visible on Vista laptop using Time capsule

Change setup with Time capsule 1 TB, all MAC PC's work perfectly with wireless connection, except Vista laptop.
Vista discovers all other wireless connections except the one from Time capsule.
On advise from forum, changed Airport settings :
    - Radio mode = 802/a - 802/g"
    - Wireless security to "none"
Which other setting on Vista prevents at least discovering the wireless signal ?
    Thanks for your support !
    Pascal

I believe the problem has to do with some potential compatibility issue between the SP3 update and the currently installed Boot Camp drivers. Did you make sure that you (re)installed the latest Boot Camp drivers after you performed the SP3 update?

  • Live Cam Voice OR wireless connection; not both

My new Live! Cam Voice blocks my wireless Internet connection. The Webcam works fine for taking photos and making little videos. But if I'm online, and plug the Webcam into a USB port, my connection is cut and I cannot restore it. Unplug the Webcam and sometimes the connection comes back, or if not I have to restart my computer, and it comes back then.
A previous Logitech Webcam worked perfectly.
    Any ideas?
    K

Below was copied from a post by: cjasonwilson on this forum and Worked on my live!cam voice product.
    ***Note***
When I followed the direction on this I found only:
LowerFilters value inthe file - I deleted that and all is well in wonder land!
Thanks to Cjasonwilson for some great info, the only thing to work after 3 calls to creative, gatway and one of my buddies dack in FL. Thanks Again!
I found a fix that worked for me and I hope it works for anyone else experiencing the same issue. I had to Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values.
To Manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:
    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
START > RUN > (Type) REGEDIT (and hit ENTER)
    2. Locate the UpperFilters and LowerFilters value under the following key in the registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{6BDDFC6-80F-D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
NEXT: I went to my Device Manager in Windows XP > IMAGING DEVICES > CREATIVE WEBCAM LIVE! ULTRA then right mouseclicked and chose DISABLE. I Then Right mouse clicked again and chose ENABLE. Then Wallah! My webcam led cam on and the darn thing started working again.
HOW I DISCOVERED WHAT TO DO
I came across a link to a similar problem regarding a CD-Rom Driver install issue returning Error Code 9. This was the same error code that I recieved when trying to re-install my webcam drivers. So I poked around the registry near a similar path (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class\) as mentioned in the article found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/34060/EN-US/ until I ran across an entry that said Imaging Devices in it.

Something wrong with my network connections. I've done this like a hundred times (I'm pro at messing up my system and reinstalling) but this time just cannot figure out, gnome netwotk manager installed somewhat broken. because everytime i hit "cancel" on any gui it crashes. and wireless tab does not show any devices availible, however iwconfig shows that everythins is fine.

I did disabled (!network) and put networkmanager in rc.conf

check daemon.log to see if it's the daemon that's having issues. If not then it's the applet that configures the daemon, you can try starting the applet from terminal (nm-applet) to catch any possible output.

  • E3000 wireless connections not reaching maximum speed

E3000 running 1.0.0.3 firmware on Cox premier 30mb pipe. 2 wireless dell laptops Inspiron 9100 and Vostro 1000running 1350 and 1390 mini wireless g network cards with latest drivers installed. Direct connect machines run at full 30mb connection speedtest.net and Cox's own speed test. Wireless machines sitting next to router with excellent connection showing 48 to 54Mbps capacity but only getting 3-10Mbps throughput on speedtests. Cust Support through level 1, 2 and HQ cannot find the problem. Originally thought it was bad hardware so original router replaced and doing the same thing.
Sincerely appreciate any clues, suggestions or ideas anyone may have. The laptops are both about 5 yrs old or more but they should reach the capacity available, even on G networks, shouldn't they?
    Thank you kindly!

How much speed do you get on a wired computer?
Speed test is not always accurate on most of the websites.  You have Cox premier 30mb connection and you are getting 28-30 mbps speed on wireless computer. So I think the speed is pretty good.
If you are still getting slow speed then you can try changing the advanced wireless settings on the router.
Open the setup page of the router. Click on Wireless tab and go to Advanced wireless settings. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.
Go to the setup tab and change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings. Power cycle the router and observe the speed.

  • Wireless connection not working

For no apparent reason... I am getting this message "the settings saved on your computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network".
I reset the router, checked all the connections to the modem etc. and went through the setup again and I am still getting the message that my laptop is not detecting the router.
This router has worked without fail for several months and this problem seemed to begin for no apparent reason.   I am not clear if this is a problem with my laptop or my router...Help please!

That means the password for the wireless has been changed. Remove the wireless profile and reconnect to the wireless network.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Wireless connections not working

So I've been putting off getting the system updates, as they require me to restart my laptop. It forcibly installed updates last night, and since it restarted with full updates, I haven't been able to connect to a wireless network. Where there should be an icon for WiFi, it has since been replaced with the Ethernet icon. So far, I haven't found an option to switch between Ethernet and wifi, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to try them.
    Thanks, R.

  • Wireless connection not turned on..?

I'm stumped on how to connect wirelessly on my Macpro 2009? I've always used a hardwire.
    Any help?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Click on , System Preferences, Internet and Wireless, Network. (I'm on OS X 10.6)
Highlight AirPort in the left column (should show a red dot) and click the 'Turn AirPort On' button.
If you don't have AirPort listed in the default location profile, add AirPort by clicking the + sign at the bottom of the left column and selecting AirPort.
That's how to turn it on.
For convenience, check the box 'Show AirPort status in menu bar', so from now on, you'll have the AirPort "fan" icon available to turn it on or off from the menu bar, instead of going into System Preferences. A side benefit is that the icon (10.6 and later) shows a relative signal strength of the wireless network to which you connect.
Be sure to click 'Apply' to save changes.
If you need to configure additional wireless network settings, such as Preferred Networks, TCP/IP, DNS ,and others return to Network preferences, and click the Advanced button in the lower right, revealing this screen:
(Some details above 'whited-out' for security reasons)
