T410 brief key presses not all registering

I have had a tough time with typos on my 4 month old T410. Then I read the epic thread on keyboards not keeping up, but that was supposedly fixed in BIOS v 1.15. I have 1.34.
The issue is that if I strike a key very briefly it may not register. This is highly repeatable on any key. It is a very firm single finger strike where I'm already pulling my finger back as it contacts the key. It still bottoms out quite firmly, but not for long.
A knowledge base article suggests updating the BIOS and then sending the computer in to a service center.  Before I give up my PC for several days, I'm wondering if there is anything they can do.
It does not happen with an external USB keyboard.
Anyone else able to repeat this, or had it fixed?
Thanks,
Ian

hey ianw01
could you check your keyboard property and check the character repeat rate ?
also i would recommend updating the bios/firmware of your unit . Currently the bios is at version 1.36

  • Backlight key presses not detected, OPTIMUS, wiki didn't help

    I am using a Razer Blade 14" with linux-ck kernel (although I have tested in the main kernel and the issue remains).
    The keyboard brightness settings keys are not detected by X at all (using xev reports no keycodes when I press them).
    However, the driver is getting that information. And in the same type as other function keys (such as sound up/down - which are detected correctly).
    I know this because, while investigating the workings of the touchpad, I ran the razer-test script found in:
    http://fxchip.net/RazerBlade/
    (slightly modified because the device ID is 0x011D in the 14").
    It distinguishes normal key presses from Macro Keys. Function keys in this laptop are macro keys. When pressing volume down, I get the following report:
    Macro keys: Razer Extra Buttons:
      Extra key: FN
    04 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Macro keys: 02 ea 00 00

    Macro keys: Razer Extra Buttons:
    04 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    When pressing brightness up/down, I get the following report:
    04 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Macro keys: 02 70 00 00
    Macro keys: 02 00 00 00
    Macro keys: 02 6f 00 00
    Macro keys: 02 00 00 00
    Macro keys: Razer Extra Buttons:
    04 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    (note that the last part just signals that I let go of the FN key)
    My idea was to try to find the keycodes through xev and then map them manually. However, this was unsuccessful since xev reports no input when I press brightness up/down (while volume up/down works).
    This is where I'm lost - the keyboard drivers seems to just be ignoring them.
    Any help appreciated . Let me know what I can post if it's of any help!
    Cheers,
    Rodrigo
    EDIT:
    My laptop uses optimus hardware, and I'm using the integrated Intel Graphics card.
    I have tried all the methods in the wiki but none of them worked:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/backlight#Overview
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … ter_resume.
    It's also worth noting that I do have control over the backlight with software - the FN+F8/F9 key bindings are the ones that are just completely ignored by the driver.

    Hey. If you aren't using the nvidia graphics card then this works on mine.
    Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf by adding
    Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
    Xorg normally automatically selects the backlight device. On mine it ued acpi_video0 instead of intel_backlight.
    Hope that helps!
    Thanks, but the challenge is, to get nvidia prop. drivers working.
    I think, I tracked the problem down to some backlight issue, probably a firmware issue with the laptop model.
    On ubunutu, ideapad backlight modules gets loaded, on arch, it uses the intel-bl. As it stands to reason, backlight settings are too dim when starting X.
    I am about to test nvidia-bl from AUR.

  • Key Press Not Responding If You Go Back (re-do step)

    I have a software simulation in which one of the steps is to enter some numbers into a text field and press the Enter key. Works good on the first pass. If you then click the Back button and go back to a previous step the Enter key will no longer work. I have search the forums and some blogs without any luck.
    Example:
    http://elearning.biworldwide.com/misc/Soft_Sim/Soft_Sim.htm
    After you reach the text entry step and enter the correct numbers and press Enter, click the Back button (lower left) and back up to the Click Member step and re-preform the steps. When you reach the text entry the Enter key press will no longer work.

    All apps in the recently used apps bar or dock which is accessed by pressing the home button twice are not loaded and running. Some apps like games that have been updated to do so will be in an idle state, most will be quit, and some will run in the background when leaving the app. The number of apps that can run in the background are very few and far between because there is no reason or benefit for the overwhelming number of 3rd party apps to run in the background.

  • On key press not working

    <af:inputText id="phone" onkeypress="return notext(event)" label="phone" inlineStyle="width:70px;" value="#{MembersBB.p.phone}"/>
    function notext(e)
    var charCode = (e.which) ? e.which : event.keyCode
    if (charCode > 31 && (charCode < 48 || charCode > 57))
    return false;
    alert(charCode);
    return true;
    works fine in javascript, but not here.. whats the solution, not even the alert is working?

    i Did this and it works..
    function notext(e)
    //alert(event.keyCode);
    var charCode = (e.which) ? e.which : event.keyCode
    if (charCode > 31 && (charCode < 48 || charCode > 57))
    event.keyCode = 0;
    return false;
    // alert(charCode);
    return true;
    however, In javae script..you can do without event.keyCode = 0;

  • Closing windows in Expose using key press (or why does apple-W not work?)

    I often end up with lots of Safari windows open & need to prune them down. (Yes I use tabbed browsing too .
    So I thought I'd use Expose, see the windows I needed to close, select the one I wanted to close and hit apple-W which works fine to close a window when not in Expose. However for me it doesn't work in expose (though its fine when not in expose).
    This leads to a rather slow process of going into expose, selecting the window you want to close, coming out of expose, then hitting apple-W to close that window, then going back to expose.
    I'd much rather just go into expose, hover over the window I want to close (or use cursor keys to pick the right one) and hit apple-W; then I can close a few windows without having to leave expose.
    Has anyone ever figured out a way to get apple-W - or any key press at all - to close the currently selected window in expose?
    BTW I know you can quit an application in Expose; which is great. However in this case I want to close just a selected window in expose (e.g. a particular safari window), not the whole application.

    You have a great idea. But it isn't supported. Yet.

  • N-Key rollover not working on my Mac

    To make a long story short, I'm one of those heretics who chooses to game on a Mac.  The game I play mostly is Starcraft 2.  In Starcraft 2, there's a new technique for injecting hatcheries as zerg that requires two key presses to be registered simultaneously.  So in order to do this I went out and bought myself a fancy Ducky Shine 4 Keyboard and it feels great, but the only problem is that the n-key rollover doesn't seem to be working on my mac.  N-Key rollover is where multiple key presses can be registered at the same time.  That is to say that if I pressed the keys jk at the same time, they should be able to repeat jkjkjkjkjkjkjkjk over and over again.  On my mac I can't seem to be able to do this.  In fact at first I couldn't even get my keys to repeat.  To even get my keys to repeat I had to input a command into terminal that I got from this website http://lifehacker.com/5826055/make-your-keyboard-keys-repeat-properly-when-held- down-in-mac-os-x-lion
    What I'm really wondering, is is it possible to active my keyboards full potential on my mac?  Is there any command I might be able to input that would allow my keyboards n-key rollover capability to function?
    Here's a link to the zerg injecting method.  They give a brief summary of what your keyboard needs to be able to do in order for your keyboard to be able to do what they have termed the 'Rapid-Fire inject method'.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIbo94IWeu8

    Exactly the same problem here! I have a Corsair K-70 keyboard. My keyboard's N key rollover works great on PC, but not on my MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. So frustrating. Is this a hardware limitation of the Mac itself, or a software limitation imposed by an application? (note that Pages didn't allow proper N key rollover) if it's application-specific, if hope Blizzard could address it. If not, could a firmware update or third party software allow this to work??? Please, I need to quick warp in units in Starcraft 2. Steve's zerglings are in my base!!! (Good luck buddy, hope out nerd references get us some answers.)
    Genius idea... Could someone with an N key rollover keyboard and a dual-booted Mac see if it works? This would narrow it between Mac hardware and OSX. Just a thought!

  • ActiveX is stealing my key presses?

    Hi all,
    I have a fairly simple front panel with a handful of LabVIEW controls and an ActiveX container. In the ActiveX container is the Adobe Reader plugin.
    My vi works, but exhibits an odd behaviour that I presume is focus related. Once the ActiveX control is programmatically told to open and display a pdf file, it seems to steal the focus - permanently. If I select my LV string control, I can select any text in it, but key presses are all still sent to the Adobe Reader ActiveX control. If I click a few check boxes, then the string control again, it still doesn't accept my keyboard presses. The only way I've found to stop all this is to press tab, as this causes LabVIEW to move the focus away to the next control in the tab sequence. After that, all is ok until the next pdf file is read into the ActiveX control, and then I'm back at square one.
    Now I don't want to be telling my customers, "that's alright mate, just make sure you press the tab key after every pdf you generate and you'll be just fine."
    I've tried programmatically moving the focus away from the ActiveX control, and setting "SkipTabbing" to true, but this doesn't work.
    Anyone know how I can prevent this darned ActiveX control from permanently stealing my focus?

    Unfortunately I don't have a good solution, but I can sympathize - I've had the same problem.
    Hi nathand, thanks for the sympathy
    I've tried a few things, including navigating away from and straight back to the tab panel which houses the control to attempt to change the control focus. I've even tried simulating the keyboard TAB key press, which actually works - but only once for some annoyingly unfathomable reason! A second call to the ActiveX AdobeReader control makes it the focus again, but this time permanently. I've even tried putting the ActiveX control into a subvi that's hosted within a subpanel - no difference.
    Ultimately, like yourself, I've had to settle for a separate window, which I've called a Preview Window. Of course, putting my large ActiveX container in a separate subvi has left a dirty big empty space on my main vi front panel
    I'm tempted to try to hide all borders around the preview window, and programmatically control its location such that it sits perfectly over the empty space within my main front panel. Of course, this means monitoring main panel window resizes and movements to maintain the correct relative locations, but it's do-able...
    I've got a new problem now - I thought about using Invoke to Get the Front Panel Image, then place this into a picture control. However, it seems the AdobeReaderActiveX control evades the LabVIEW Front Panel Image method, revealing nothing but the blank front panel colour behind the container. I can't seem to find a way around this either!

  • TS1277 HI. I have followed all the appropriate steps above and when I try to enter my 'Password' when asked, my keyboard doesn't work. No key press can be activated at all when trying to enter my password in 'Terminal. And I am in the 'Administrator' user

    HI.
    I am having trouble authorising my Mac Air to my Itunes account. I found a discussion explaining how to go go into 'Terminal', then adding a command. I have followed all those appropriate steps and when I try to enter my 'Password' when asked, my keyboard doesn't work. No key press can be activated at all when trying to enter my password in 'Terminal. And I am in the 'Administrator' user. Can anybody offer any suggestions?? ta

    Does the command that you're trying to enter in Terminal begin with the word 'sudo'?
    If so, your keyboard is working fine. When you type your password after a sudo command, nothing is echoed to the screen for security reasons (not even the * that are normally registered in other user interfaces). However, the program is registering what you type.
    Just type your password and press 'return' and the command will be executed (so long as you type it correctly; if you don't, you'll get an error message).

  • IdeaPad U330 key presses registered twice

    I bought a U330 about a month ago, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble with their keyboard.  My issue is a bit vague and unpredictable: every now and then when I'm typing a lot, key presses will register twice.  This seems to most commonly happen with the 'm' and '-' keys; in fact about one in every five times I type "vim foo bar" at a console I end up producing "vimm foo bar".  Every now and again I get repeats with other keys, but it's not predictable.
    It is not a software configuration issue like changing the time delay between the input driver accepting a press-and-hold as multiple presses.  For fun I tried increasing this value as high as it would go (which gets to be around 500ms) and still no luck.  The hardware is clearly reporting two distinct taps when I'm physically making one.
    For a while I was convinced that I just needed to get used to this particular keyboard, but I'm convinced this keyboard is finnicky.  I'm a solid typist as I work in IT and have spent more than a few years of my life mashing at keyboard; I type quite firmly and quickly so I'm confident this isn't anything I'm doing wrong.
    Has anyone else seen this issue?

    Try updating the drivers and the BIOS.

  • My numerical keys are not giving me numbers, but instead some are producing the symbols of other keys, e.g. when I press 5 I get [..??

    I accidentally spilt a little bit of water on my keypad yesterday, but I dried it all off straight away and all my keys were working fine.  This morning my number keys suddenly stopped working, I freaked out thinking that it was because of the water yesterday but then I realised that about half an hour before they stopped working, they were working because I used the 1 and 2.  I got the keyboard viewer up to work out which keys were not working, and discovered that the number keys were not producing numbers but other symbols when typed. However now, I don't know whether I have done something else because now I can't even get other symbols when I press keys 1-9!
    I've tried rebooting, and checking all the setting in system preferences.

    Is it a damaged keyboard ?
    The laptop is just 2 months old, will Apple replace it with a new one if its indeed a damaged keyboard or just repair, I use it for official purposes so being without a laptop is not much of an option.

    No one here works for Apple, so we don't know what Apple might or might not do.  If it's a genuine defect, they will of course repair it under warranty.  It is not their responsibility if it effects your ability to work or not, so that's on you.
    If, however, they determine that the key is problematic as a result of your misuse of the laptop, then everything is on you.  And trust me, if they find a glob of dried up beer or coffee there, they will charge you.
    Your only choice is to take it in for repair.

    Everything was working fine till i was in my browser and somehow hit spacebar only find that the screen has been magnified. From then on only keys with Fn function(light blue keys) worked; I have tried (Fn+Num Lk), (Fn+Scr Lk), (<right,left>shift+f10/f11), rolling back to previous backup, rebooting. Nothing works!! I tried these commands in the on-screen keyboard but there is no way to use the fn key, it does not have one. I have uninstalled the keyboard driver only for it to reinstall upon boot, it still does not work.
    Only keys with the Fn function; Fn+F2(windows lock), Fn+F3(battery), Fn+F4(stand-by), Fn+F5(wireless), Fn+F7(presentation/screen display), Fn+F8(keyboard pointer and touch pad), Fn+F9(i don't know), F12(hibernate), scrLk(numLk), home(brightness+), end(brightness-), pg up(keyboard bulb), spacebar(magnify screen) and the think vantage blue button. Only these few work. All other neutral keys do not work. I'm not sure about PrtSc(sysRq) and pause(Break). I tried them but doesn't seem to respond
    I have searched for all possible fixes, I am at an end if no one here is able to help me. I have deadlines coming up and am really desperate, HELP!!!

  • Keys pressed or not pressed

    Hi
    I am struggling a bit with keys on the keyboards controlling a movieclip to happen.
    Ive got a person moving when pressing right and left, and a movieclip with three frames: First frame is a movieclip with the person standing still, looking bored. The second frame is the person moving right, and the third frame is the person moving left.
    This is the code that Ive inserted into the persons actions on scene1:
    if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
    _x += speed;
    this.gotoAndStop(2);
    _xscale = +scale;
    if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
    _x -= speed;
    this.gotoAndStop(3);
    _xscale = -scale;
    this code works alright accept that when the keys are not pressed it doesnt stand still, the legs are still moving, so I tried to include this code aswell:
    if (!Key.isDown(KEY.RIGHT)) {
           _root.char.gotoAndStop(1);
        if (!Key.isDown(KEY.LEFT)) {
           _root.char.gotoAndStop(1);
    this makes the person standing still when not pressed but not moving the legs when turning right and left.
    What am I doing wrong, any ideas?
    Thank you for any help.

    use:
    if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
    _x += speed;
    this.gotoAndStop(2);
    _xscale = +scale;
    } else if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
    _x -= speed;
    this.gotoAndStop(3);
    _xscale = -scale;
    } else {
    this.gotoAndStop(1);
    (and, do you really want that scaling?)
