T410 screen brightness settings not restored after sleep

I have a T410 with the NVIDIA graphics option. When the machine wakes up from sleep (only tested on battery power), the screen brightness is always set at 0 regardless of what power policy setting I use. Even if I switch from power setting to power setting, the screen brightness still remains at 0.
This problem does not occur when the machine is first booted as switching power profiles will set the screen brightness to whatever is setup in the profile.
I am enable to increase the brightness using the keyboard but its frustrating to have to do it all the time. I do have the dim timer set on some of my power policies to kick in between 1-5 minutes.
Anybody else having the same problem or have any fixes for this?
I have updated all my drivers, BIOS, Windows Update etc. I have also tried to manually reinstall the power management driver, power management utility and the NVIDIA display driver without any change.

are you people using Thinkvantage Power Manager 3.20?

  • Wifi (WPA-PSK) not restored after sleep?  (10.4.10)

    Hi,
Has anyone else noticed that their Wifi connection is not being restored after the MacBook comes back from a sleep?
I'm using a 2006 white MacBook (Core Duo) with 10.4.10, connecting to a Cisco 877W ADSL router using WPA-PSK. Cisco firmware version is (C870-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 12.4(4)T7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1), "flash:c870-advsecurityk9-mz.124-4.T7.bin" which seems to be current.
From a cold boot, there is no problem connecting to the wireless router, but after a sleep, the connection is not restored, and the router syslog shows repeated unsuccessful authentication attempts from the Macbook's MAC address.
Connecting manually to the correct network SSID doesn't resolve the problem: it just prompts for the WPA PSK keyphrase, which doesn't work if entered. Of course the correct keyphrase is already in the keychain.
As a workaround, switching the Macbook's Airport off and on again a few times eventually seems to get it working again, but it's slow and very clunky.
Can anyone else confirm this problem? It seems to have been introduced with 10.4.10, but I would like independent confirmation before reporting this to Apple, as I changed the wireless router around the same time as the 10.4.10 update appeared.
    Thanks,
    - Martin.
PS: I guess there are two morals to this story...
    1) Always clone your hard drive to a Lacie drive with SuperDuper before installing any Apple updates - so that you can back out any buggy updates without a full reinstall.
    2) Don't install any Apple updates within 2 weeks of installing other network changes - so that you can tell what's caused any issues.

The WPA auth problem still exists on a clean install of Leopard (and a full reboot is needed to clear it every time the laptop comes out of sleep) so I'll ring Apple Support and see if they can at least add it to their known issues list, in the hope of resolution later. It's quite likely that downgrading to WEP would be a workaround, but WEP is just not acceptable from a security perspective.

  • Screen brightness OSD not working after 7 clean install

    Hi all,
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 on my T400. Initially, none of the OSDs were working (volume, led light, screen brightness). But, I found this thread--http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/On-Screen-Display-feature-no-longer-works-i...--and downloaded the Hotkey drivers. This brought back the volume and led OSDs, but not brightness. Additionally, for some reason now the screen does not get nearly as dim as it used to.
Am I missing something obvious? Thanks!

Fantastic. FIxed the problem. Thanks so much for your help!

  • Brightness control not working after sleep

Sometimes, after I close the lid for some time and then open the lid again (putting the computer to sleep?) the screen is very dim and the brightness controls don't work. Solution seems to be rebooting the computer. Apparently this problem has been around for a long time:
    2009 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1147601?start=0&tstart=0
    2007 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1119174?start=0&tstart=0
I'm on a (nearly) brand new five-thousand dollar MacBook Pro with the latest OS (Lion?) with all the software and firmware updates, and the laptop has been rebuilt twice by the genius bar at the Apple store due to a faulty solid state disk drive and a subsequent disk corruption issue. And, let me just throw in for any Apple engineers who might be listening, that if I close the lid (sleep?) when my laptop is fully charged, it will be dead, or nearly dead by the next day. I've got an $800 two year old Asus that I closed the lid on and came back to weeks later and it still had nearly a full charge (I opened it up and went right on working for a couple of hours). Very disappointing for a $5,000 computer! But I digress...
I'm sure the battery situation is hopeless, but is there any hope for a resolution to the brightness control?
And let me just say that I very much appreciate all the hard work and helpfullness of the good folks at the Apple store and on this forum. It's not your fault this $5,000 machine has such aggrivating shortcomings. It's like buying a Ferarri (yes, I admit...it's a Ferarri) with a door that won't open and windshield wipers that don't work. And you know what's worse is those TV commercials where the Mac's are smugly portrayed as such superior machines...OK, sorry...I'll stop.
Off to reboot so I can see the screen...any help would be appreciated.

I have been having the issue of no brighness control when running windows through bootcamp for about 6 months now and have not found any applicable solution online.
While messing around trying to figure it out yet again I noticed that my monitor driver was signed by team viewer...
Sure enough clicking the roll driver back button resolved the issue by rolling the driver back to the Microsoft driver...
    So long story short:
Right click "My Computer" click properties
Click device manager (lop left of window)
    Expand Monitors section
    Double Click monitor
    Click driver tab
If the driver here is not signed by Microsot or Apple click the roll back button. My driver version is 6.1.7600.16385 (Driver date 6/21/2006)
Rolling this back instantly resolved my issue. I will now propagate this post to all the threads I saw regarding this issue.
    I am running windows 7 x64 Ulti on a 15" rMBP.
    Best of luck

  • Screen brightness keys not working after 5.0 update on Windows 8.

I believe the drivers for the screen aren't working since changing the brightness manually in windows isn't working either. There is also an error with the intel hd 4000 graphics, if that has anything to do with it. This problem did not occur before I downloaded the new drivers for windows 8.

Same thing is happening to me as well, just posted about it 30 seconds ago. PLEASE HELP

  • "Desktop & Screen Saver" settings not saving upon reboot.

"Desktop & Screen Saver" settings not saving upon reboot. Settings are always set back to factory default upon computer startup. Need help! Please!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • My tabs are NOT restored after I reopen close and open firefox. I have tried all the suggested decisions- didn't work.

My tabs are NOT restored after I reopen close and open firefox. I have tried the default page - on it I don't have "Restore Previous Session" button. I tried with the history menu - the "Restore Previous Session" option is not even available, like I never had previous session. I have tried to put my settings to always restore the tabs from the previous time- in fact, this option is on "Show my windows and tabs from last time" for a very long time now. Still don't work. Please, give me ideas, or even set up some time to chat live. Thank you all in advance.

  • Auto brightness does not work after upgrade from iOS5 to iOS6 on my iPod touch. Is this intended by Apple, or is it a bug?

I attempted to ask this question, yesterday. However, I am not used to typing with my thumbs, yet, and messed it up some. So, I will give this another try. Auto brightness does not work after upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6 on my iPod touch. Is this intended by Apple, or is it a bug?

Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
iOS 6 changed how that feature works.

  • Screen brightness to 1 bar after wakeup after sleep!!

Has anyone experienced that when you wake your macbook up after sleep the screen brightness is set to 1 bar...
dont know if this is actually a problem or if it can be set in system pref..

Have you tried toggling on and off the automatic adjustment for ambient light? Try checking and unchecking it's box, System preferences>Display>uncheck box. This should keep the brightness of the display constant.

  • Screen not refreshing after sleep mode

    Hello All,
I have had a problem since 10.7.XX where my screen does not refresh after the computer goes into screen saver mode and then into sleep mode. When I move my mouse to resume i get a line drawn where I move my mouse and it reveals the login screen slowly. I can click on a login account and a small section of the screen refreshes where the login password is. Once I login it goes away. Was hoping Mountail Lion would address, but the problem continues from Snow Leopard. I am on a Imac 24" 2009 3.06Ghz dual core with 4 Gig of Ram, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS 512mb. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hello,
See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) (also later OSX versions on earlier Macs can do it also), not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.

  • Flashcards for screen brightness no longer work after BIOS upgrade

I have a Toshiba Satellite T135D/1320S laptop, and last night I upgraded the BIOS to v1.90 under the recently released recall notice.  AFter installing the BIOS, however, the Flashcard brightness controls no longer work. Whenever I press FN-6 or FN-7, the screen brightness Flashcard pops up and the toggle on the slider bar moves back and forth, but the brightness of the screen does not change.
I have disabled and re-enabled the Flashcards as suggested in a separate forum, and I've also downloaded the most recent display driver (AMD display driver v8.615).  Neither effort corrected the problem.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Satellite T135D-S1320
Sometimes it helps to reset the machine. With the battery and AC adapter removed, close the Power switch for half-a-minute. Re-attach those, press the Power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press the F2 key while the Toshiba logo is displayed. Press F9 to restore the BIOS default settings, press F10, and then select Yes (Exit Saving Changes). The computer will restart.
Another things to try is reinstalling the TVAP.
