T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pressing volup or voldown

hello, I am using T410 with Win& x64, more more than 2yrs. Last week the sound playback issue occured. This happens with video and audio playback of any file type. After 2-3 mins of normal playback sound cuts out, but resumes right after I press vol up or down. Then after 2-3 mins it cuts out again and so on. I dont believe its a software -related error, since sound does not play even with Knoppix Live CD. Latest drivers and BIOS updates are properly installed. windows sound test finishes succesfully. I have read similar posts but all were related to software configuration. I have also replaced the speakers without change. Is there a known fix, or even a fix at all? Thanks

Yes, videos, music, online, off-line and even window sounds, all audio turns off.  Sometimes messing with the volume slider or mute button will bring it back on but eventually neither of these work and I have no audio period until I restart the computer and then the cycle starts over.  For my business I create informational short videos or audios and use internet calling.  I also attend trainings and meetings online.  Sound cuts out first every few minutes and gradually increasing until it will not come back on at all.  I purchased a small bluetooth speaker and use that but it is a pain to move, along with the laptop, when I am moving from one room or location to another.  Thought it would be a temporary solution until I could get the internal speakers working but since that is unlikely to happen purchased clipon speakers to make it easier to transport.  This is not some off brand, $350 computer but supposedly a quality business computer, which is what I paid for but did not receive.  As I said, I have searched the internet and found hundreds of post regarding this problem on both 410s and 510s.

  • Sound Cuts Out During Playback-Sound Card/Audio Interface Necessary?-

I'm a voiceover artist with the following setup:
    Sennheiser MKH 416 P48 U3 Microphone
    Yamaha HS80M Reference Monitors
    Mackie Onyx-i 1220 Mixer
    Adobe Audition CS6
    Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop (Intel Core2 Duo, CPU T5750 @ 2GHz, 32-bit)
Until recently, I could hear anything I recorded or pre-recorded items with no issues.  However, now, as I listen to anything, the sound 'cuts out' (latency issues?).  The meters on Audition will still be moving, but I'll get no sound from my monitors.  I upgraded to Windows 7, hoping and thinking this would solve the issue, and that Audition would play nicely with Windows 7.  This 'solution' seemed to have helped, but ultimately, it did not resolve my issue.  At this point, I believe it's my sound card.  My studio quality setup seems to be too much for my consumer grade sound card.  Because my Mackie has an interface built into it, I did not believe that I needed an interface.  However, I'm beginning to question that.  So, that's part of my question.  Is an audio interface necessary for me even though I have one built into my Mackie?  If so, based on what I list for my system, does anyone have any recommendations for interfaces?  If I do not need an interface, I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas as to what's causing the sound to 'cut out' and how to resolve it.  Any and all help, I thank you for it in advance!

Finally!  I wrote a reply a few hours back but the fine folks at Adobe took the site down just before I hit send!  Lucky I saved it elsewhere because the "recovered post" was only the first couple of paragraphs.
    Anyhow, take 2.
Well, first off, your Mackie Onyx mixer has a firewire interface built in so it, in effect, becomes your sound card.  The one in your computer isn't involved in the recording/playback process at all (at least not unless you're trying to do something like monitor via the computer card rather than the mixer).  Therefore, buying another sound card/interface won't help at all.
Similarly, audio dropouts aren't a latency issue, at least not directly.  Latency is the delay in the audio as it does the round trip via you sound interface (mixer) and computer.  It's more of an issue for musicians trying to be beat accurate as they over dub tracks.  However, the latency controls could be affecting your drop out problem.  The latency control in Audition is effectively controlling the buffer size--and having a larger buffer (which increases latency) also gives you playback more protection against glitches when your computer gets busy doing something else.  So...the first thing to try is increasing the latency/buffer size on the Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware menu.
Another thing to check is that you're using the latest drivers from Mackie--check their site and download/install the latest if there are some available.  If there's a choice, go for ASIO drivers rather than MME if there are some available.
Also, I mentioned your computer getting busy with other things--for serious sound work shut down everything else on your computer.  Pay special attention to networking, wifi, and anti virus software, all of which are usualy prioritised to grab processor cycles over your sound work.  Also make sure you shut down all system sounds.
Hope at least one of these suggestions works for you.

  • Audio sputters and then completely cuts out during playback

Hello, everyone.  I've been editing in iMovie for years, and have never come across this problem until today.
When playing back a clip that I've inserted into my project, the audio sputters on and off for about 10 seconds, and then cuts out completely.  If I stop playing, and then start again, the audio comes back, but in about 10 seconds, sputters and cuts out once again.  When I play back the original clip that I imported, this does not happen.  It is only when it is actually in my project.  The audio waves shown below the video are all intact as well.
I've already tried restarting the computer and deleting the iMovie preference file to see if that would make a difference, but it has not.  Any ideas as to what this could be, or even better yet, how to fix it?
    Thanks for your time.

Update: When detaching the audio, this problem goes away.  However, the audio fade-ins from transitions, etc. go away.  Is there any way to solve this problem without detaching?

  • Sound cuts out exactly 5 mins after lecture recording starts (Tegrity)

I am using software called Tegrity to record lectures.  The recordings come out fine when I use the built-in microphone on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.8.5).  This doesn't work in a lecture hall.  When I use a bluetooth headset instead (TrueBlue TB-91EX), everything looks fine while I record.  When I save and upload the file, however, the recordings stop playing sound after exactly 5 minutes.  The 5 minute part is what strikes me as odd.  A Tegrity rep had never heard of this issue.
Whether I am using the built-in microphone or not, the Tegrity recorder shows that the sound is being received (the sound indicator goes up and down with volume).  If the bluetooth were disconnecting, I would know immediately; the sound would stop oscillating and a warning would come up (and Tegrity also would tell me when the headset runs out of batteries).  The sound is definitely getting to the computer; for the first 5 minutes, everything is fine; after exactly 5 minutes, however, something is happening.
Is there some kind of bluetooth setting that would cause this to happen exactly 5 minutes after hitting the record button on Tegrity?  Any insight into what could be going on here?

That said, I wonder exactly which audio driver you used. This one should be correct.

  • Sound cuts out after 1 sec on .avi files in QuickTime

First, let me preface this post by saying that I have spent about a week searching through different posts in these and other forums regarding similar issues, and have yet to find a solution that works for me.
So I have been trying to play certain .avi files with QuickTime that I BELIEVE have been encoded with the XviD codec. At first, no sound played at all. After installing a bunch of different codec files, including packages such as Perian and codecs such as DivX, XviD, and AC3. I finally managed to get QuickTime to play these videos with sound for about a second, after which the sound cuts out. Also, if I rewind or skip to another point in the video, the sound will restart again for about one second and then cut out once more.
I should mention that these videos work perfectly when I play them with the DivX player. Does anyone have any suggestions or anyone with similar issues? I am currently running OS X 10.7 (Lion) on a new MacBook Pro 15"

As stated on the Perian "Support" web page, "Please consider removing obsolete QuickTime Components: FFusion, Xvid Delegate, 3ivX, DivX, DivX Decoder, XviD, msmpeg4v1, msmpeg4v2, AviImporter, EX_M4S2, Casio AVI Importer, AC3 Codec, and MatroskaQT." Having multiple codecs for the same compression formats can create component conflicts. Since Perian component package supports all of the named codecs, it is not necessary to have both Perian and the named codecs simultaneously installed.
In addition, Lion seems to also be prone to conflicts with third-party software apps and hardware peripheral casrds/devices. If possible, it is usually best to disconnect/close anything you can during the tests. Also, it might be a good idea to test the same files on alternative systems. (I.e., if possible, you might like to post a sample problem file to see if others can play them without problem on other platforms operating under Lion OS as a further conflict test.)

  • Sound cuts out after any given amount of time, only way to turn back on is to reboot.

For reference, I am using a fully up-to-date mid-2012 model rMBP. Attached to my MacBook via USB I also have an M-Audio KeyStation 49i, which is where I have my headphones plugged in (probably not related in any way, but just noting this).
I first encountered this issue while using Chrome and listening to music on SoundCloud with Garageband open after the last Mavericks update yesterday. I initially thought it was a Chrome bug, and in doing some research, I found that other Chrome users were having the same issue as me, but it was related to PepperFlash (a version of the standard Flash player), and disabling it in Chrome Canary fixed the issue for them.
Unfortunately, it did not fix the issue for me, but I have refrained from using Chrome since then and stuck to Safari to ensure that it's not two issues with the same outcome.
Then I stumbled across all of the Mavericks users that are having sound problems; anything from crackling/popping to not working at all. It seemed, though, that everyone that was having the sound cut out for them entirely were not only having this happen after their laptops came back from sleep mode (which is not the case for me), but were able to fix it by restarting Coreaudio[d] or -- if they had been using the headphone jack on their Macs -- they just had to plug it in again and take it back out. Neither of these worked or were applicable to my situation. Some were able to get it working again by resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, and a few others seemed to be able to bypass the issue by using Soundflower, but neither of these solutions worked for me either. The only way I can get sound to work again is to restart my computer entirely.
After doing so, I am only able to listen to audio for a certain amount of time. It seems to vary depending on how much memory the task is taking up. Like I'll be able to listen to a track or two on SoundCloud, or attempt to record into Garageband for five minutes or so. If I'm in a Garageband project that already has a lot of tracks, I'll be lucky if I can even get through a few seconds before it cuts out entirely. There are very quiet crackling/pop sounds every once and awhile, but it is hard for me to distinguish if that is just the natural state of the hardware I am using or if it is related to background system sounds.
I'm at wit's end trying to figure out what the problem is, mostly because there are so many others with similar issues and varying hardware/software setups that it's hard to track down exactly what my own situation is.
I'd like to know where I should be exporting any error logs from so that someone can take a look at this issue.
    Thank you.

After doing some additional testing, I was able to get the sound working again without rebooting by:
    1. Unplugging the MIDI device.
    2. Resetting the audio input and output to "built-in".
    3. Plugging back in the MIDI device.
    4. Changing the audio input and output back to the MIDI device.
Still, though, the sound only lasts for a little while, and there doesn't seem to be anything indicating how or why it stops.

  • My ipod video sound cuts out after 30 sec

I play my movie and the sound cuts out after a while and then it only plays the video with no sound. It's not the video because it works fine on my computer and all the other videos are doing the same thing. I found if I rewind or fast foreward the sound comes back but only for a little while and the sound cuts out again.

This happens with the current firmware 1.1 upgrade on the iPod. You can downgrade the firmware to 1.0 and this will solve that problem. Doing it this way you won't have to restore the iPod which will erase it. If you can't do this then you can restore the iPod using the previous updater.

The other option is to use QT Pro which will work to correct the problem:

    1) Open up the Video file in Quicktime Pro
    2) Select File->Export
    3) Select "Movie to MPEG-4" beside "Export:", then click the OPtions button
    4) Select "Video" & make sure the "Video Format" is set to "Pass through"
    5) Do the same for "Audio", then hit OK
    6) Save the file

  • Laptop won't start after cutting out during an update

    Dear All,
My laptop cut out during a software update (I think the battery died, although the screen readout said I had plenty of life left) and since then it won't start up. When I turn it on it just goes to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little circular symbol showing that it's thinking about something, the one that normally comes up before the sign-in box appears.
I have attempted to start from my OS X installer disc 1, but after a lot of noisey chugging, nothing further happened (except that my disc is now stuck in the drive).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hannah.singh: Both the Repair Disk routine in Disk Utility and the fsck routine that you've now run check the structure of the file system on your hard drive. In essence, they're checking to see that every item listed in the disk's invisible directory is actually where the directory says it is. Neither utility can or will alert you if a necessary file has gone missing (because, for example, an updater has deleted it and not replaced it with a new version), or if an incomplete update has left incompatible system files in place that will prevent the computer from starting up, or keep some other essential operation from being performed. These utilities aren't designed to discover whether there is actually a bootable operating system in place; they only tell you whether the disk directory matches the actual contents of the disk, and if not, whether they've been able to patch it so the two do match.
So if you were applying an update that altered any system files before it was interrupted, it's possible that the operating system on your computer is now unusable even though the directory is in fine shape and all the hardware checks out too.
Under the circumstances, I recommend starting up from your latest OS X installer CD/DVD and performing an Archive & Install.

  • Video problem - sound cuts out after 29 minutes.

I have put some TV shows from my computer onto my iPod but after 29 minutes, the sound cuts out and I am left with just the video. If I skip past 29 minutes, the screen goes black for a second, then returns to the previous menu.
My iPod is a 30GB 5G with iPod Software version 1.2.
I used iTunes 7 and tried 7.0.1 to copy the videos to my iPod. They play fine on the computer.
I have put films (1hr+) on before and they have worked fine, however that was with iPod software 1.1 and an older version of iTunes.
    Any ideas?

Well sounds like the TV shows had transferred errors. Have you tried reloading them?
Also make sure the Frame rate, and Audio rate are working ok. You will know if they are not, if voice and video are off even slightly. Also how long are the TV shows? 30 Min? If they are, then it may just be a corruption or skipped of the last min or few seconds, because the video is ending. That would explain the black screen. It does that after the video finished and it goes back to the last screen. So it just may have not copied the last few sec of the video, that happens sometimes. Try reloading it again!
Also if that does not work, try resetting the Ipod. I would hate for you to “Restore” your Ipod for just 30-60 sec of lost sound of a TV show. Especially if everything else if working well.
Best of luck. Don’t forget, if this post helped you, click Solved or Helped at the top of the post. It makes our rank better!
Have a great day, and hope you fix your problem.
P.s. it could just be that your Tv shows End at 29 min-ish as well IDK?

  • Onboard Sound Cuts out after a while - anyone know why?

    Hiya peeps,
Ever since I bought my MSI motherboard, the onboard sound has been a bit dodgy.  Whenever I play games like UT2004 or halflife, the sound cuts out after several minutes of play.  It only comes back again if I restart the game, but then after a few minutes it will cut out again.  Anyone else experienced this?
I have tried altering all the game settings from safe mode sound drivers to full EAX H/W accelerated but this has made no difference to the stability of the audio.  I have been updating all the drivers to my system as and when MSI live update picks them up, os I am up to date on that front.  I have a lot of decent kit (PSU etc) in my machine and its not overclocked in any way at all.  Also I have the most up to date direct x too.
My system spec is below,  please help chaps.
PS im trying here as MSI have not responded to any of my email queries about this problem.
    Regards,
      MrG.

    PSU: Enermax EG465AX-VE(G)(FMA) 460W
OS : WinXP SP1, all drivers up-to-date and Liveupdate up-to-date
Nothing is overclocked and all BIOS setitngs are set to the defaults.

I had the same problem, this is how i fixed it:
Uninstall everything relating to the drivers for your sound from both the control panel AND the device manager, do not let windows PnP install ANY drivers. Then manually install the latest drivers, not from live update, but from MSI's website, then run the installer package. Make sure you reboot at every step, since that's what I did, and no more sound cut-out.
See, we have many of the same specs in our computers, this is probably the same issue I had.

  • The sound drop out during a movie

I am watching a rented movie and suddenly the sound cuts out, I rewind it works it gets to a point and no sound , to say this is frustrating is a understatement , is there a reason or a solution anyone can recommend

I rarely rent because my broadband is quite slow, but I have a lot of home brewed video I watch on the units.
A couple of my AppleTv's started having audio dropouts during playback but no video glitches of note - this was with software 2.2-2.4 mostly and early software 3.0.
I never really knew if it was an AppleTv hardware issue starting eg logic board problem, or due to a software issue, or network issue. It may even be a combination.
This then started happening with music playback or music videos.
My 3 yr old Netgear n router has become somewhat unstable in last 18 months or so hanging every couple of weeks and requiring power off and cooldown or it won't restart - some searching on the net suggested an overheating wireless circuit affecting it's functioning - I now usually disable the wireless functionality and it's miles better though maybe latest iTunes and AppleTv software help.
I use main powerline ethernet adapters by devolo which work very well.
I think either my router was a bit flaky or AppleTV has more general wireless issues in some set ups.
One of my AppleTV's has since failed, so it might be a symptom of impending hardware problem, who knows.
All I would say is that now they for the most part work well on powerline adapters with few audio or other glitches.

  • AX - sound cuts out, becomes metallic, stops

    Hi All:
Can't find this issue in the forums. If there's a thread, please point me to it!
For the first time today my 3-year-old AX began to behave strangely. We've always kept it up to date, so it has the latest firmware.
This afternoon we were streaming our fave radio station SOMA.fm when the sound cut out for a moment, then restarted as a thin metallic stream. It sounded rather as if i were listening to weird jazz cymbal solo. After about 20 seconds of that, the stream just died.
We tried changing the channel - no luck. We tried rebooting - no luck. Firmware is up-to-date. Same stream plays fine through our Macbook. Every time we restart, same behavior - streams fine for a minute, cuts out, becomes metallic, then stops.
Any idea of root cause or another troubleshooting idea? It's always "just worked" until now from the moment we unwrapped it and plugged it in, so we're confused!
    Ty!
    F

If you temporarily connect a pair of stereo headphones to the audio port of the AX, does the sound quality improve?
If not, how about using a different audio source? For example, instead of the Internet radio stream to use an AAC or Apple Lossless file?
If the sound does not improve with either of these, then it is possible the audio circuit in the AX that provides analog output is faulty.

    Is the earphone faulty?

This issue has been happening to me as well in the OKC area. Started about 2 weeks ago, have had apple send a new iPhone and problem persisted. AT&T claims it's not a network issue but almost everyone I know that has an iPhone in this area is having the EXACT same problem.... incoming audio cuts out after being on the call. I was told by AT&T that my mic or speaker was probably going out and when I asked them if that was the case for everyone else experiencing the problem their answer was yes ... no wonder we have such great service from this carrier! UUGGHHH!!! Obviously, since it's happening on numerous iPhones, is replicated on a brand new iphone, it's not a hardware issue and must be a network issue.
