T410 VGA display issues

I am finding on our T410 systems we are getting in that the VGA output is so bad my customers are complaining.  The display has colors washed out and are fuzzy.  I even compared this to the previous models on the same display.
T60/T61 both looked good (analog but good)
T400 less crisp and less color
T410 color and line edge are bad.
Anyone else seeing this?  We are using discrete graphic versions and it seems as if this is part was made poorly to force adoption of display port.  For my company that is a ways off as we do not re-bury monitors with every new system.  (Not to mention that Lenovo did not have a monitor with display port until recently)
Anyone else?

I have had fuzzy display with VGA and after numerous phone conversations with the customer support, I had my motherboard replaced last week. Guess what !!! The problem is not resolved. I still have the fuzzy display and it is really annoying.
Despite of having dock (which only supports VGA) I have to use DVI externally and I cannot use external display at work because they all have only VGA...
I always wanted Thinkpad until I bought this T410. And now I say, NEVER AGAIN...

  • VGA Display Issues in Bootcamp 3.2 Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi Apple Community,
I am having some issues connecting my brand new MBP (15 inch, 2.3 GHz Core i7, AMD 6750M Early 2011 Model). I have successfully installed Windows 7 64 bit on my computer via Bootcamp and everything was running as expected. I am getting very decent performance for my graphic applications in Windows and am very satisfied with the flexibility of running both Mac OS and Windows on my machine.
However, recently I was tasked to give presentations and bought a mini-display to VGA port as most projectors I use have a VGA input. I was able to use Mac OS to give presentations very easily and it just seems to work. This was working well and great; however, when I needed to show my work on the windows side of things, the display just doesn't work. I have tried with many different projectors but cannot get my computer to display my windows desktop into my projectors via VGA.
Is there something wrong that I am doing? Why does it work without problems on the Mac side but not in Windows? My older computer was able to connect with the projector (Macbook 2006) without problems in Windows. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Hiya,
If you look at the end of your VGA cable and count the pins in the end, it will either have 14 or 15 pins. You need one with 15 little pins.
The name of the cable you need is True Display Data Channel (DDC). You can get them from ConnectorCo.
However if you have a 14 pin short VGA cable, it does work. My short VGA is 1.5 metres. If I try it with a 10 metre cable with 14 pins it won't work.
I'm assuming a VGA with all 15 pins will work over a 10 metre cable, but I can't test out the theory until I buy one.
I looked an Apple Support last night and if you bought your Mac in the last 30 days you can get free support. I bought mine in April, so I will email them later today.
Hope this helps. If Apple come back to me with an explanation and answer I will let you know.

  • X200 VGA Display Issues

Ok so I'll try to be as specific as possible.  I have an X200 2024-B27 and I am running windows 8.1.
I just recently attempted to hook up a second monitor to it.  Once it is hooked up it works but cuts on and off every 5-10 seconds.  Once it cuts off it then cuts back on.  Does it totally random, there is no rhyme or reason to it, at least not that I can tell.  The issue I have is it worked perfect on my R61 runnin 8.1 as well.  It also runs perfect on multiple other laptops.
I have attempted to update the driver but when I download it from here it tells me my system doesn't meet requirements.  I also attempted to download the display driver for 8.1 directly from Intel.  That also greets me with the same response.
I need this to work for work.  Please any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please I need help with this! Has no one had a similar issue?

  • IMac display issues / Trying to output at 1920x1080 through VGA

I'm having some external display issues with my 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac (2.4ghz). Using the mini-DVI to VGA adapter, I plugged the VGA cable into a Samsung LCD TV (PC mode). When I originally had everything set up, I was using the TV as an extended display, with a display setting of 1920x1080.
However, I had to get a 25 foot VGA extension cable, and now my maximum resolution is 1600x1200. Does anyone know why extending the VGA cable would do this?

There could be any number of factors involved, but cheap cabling, or that your Mac does not have enough power to push the high quality resolution signal that distance first come to mind.

  • I can't get my mac mini mid 2011 to connect to a manual vga screen switcher connected to an analogue vga display

    Hey,
I have a mid 2011 mac mini with a dual intel core i5 processor and 8gb of crucial 1333mhz ddr3 ram, running mac os 10.8.3, the latest version of Mountain Lion.
I am trying to use it with an old neqview analog vga screen.  Because I want to use it alongside my old Windows XP PC, I bought a manual vga screen switcher
    off amazon.
The mac mini is working fine on my LG 32'' TV via a simple HDMI to HDMI cable connection.
To see if all the cables were working (Mini DisplayPort ---> VGA in ---> VGA to VGA ---> NeqView Monitor) I disconnected my Windows PC VGA from the VGA port of the NeqView display and plugged in the final VGA socket in the conversion.  I securely fastened the VGA socket in and tried turning on my mac.
The apple startup sound could be heard from the speakers, but , after 3 minutes (usual boot time is about 1min 3secs) it still hadn't displayed on the screen, even though the keyboard was working.
Eventually, after several reboots, I managed to get it to work.  Unfortunately, I accidentally jogged the cable, and the screen went black again.
Now knowing that it COULD work, I took my manual VGA screen switcher and plugged the end of the VGA to VGA cable into that.  I then plugged the screen switcher into the NeqView monitor and I also plugged the Windows XP computer into the second slot for the screen switcher.  When I clicked on the appropriate letter for the Windows computer it booted up fine, however, even after at least 6 retries, turning on and off electricity, trying to download drivers, etc. the mac simply would not work.  I have securely fastened, double and triple checked, all the cables, however it will not work.
I know that both the screen switcher and the display are working because they both worked together with the windows XP computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the sooner the better.
    Sorry for the long post.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Display Issues with mini (Mid 2010) and LG L246WP

I recently purchased a new mini (Mid 2010 base model) and planned to use it with my 24" LG L246WP monitor, which is about 3 years old. The monitor has VGA, component, and HDMI inputs.
I used an HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect the mini directly to the monitor, and the output is completely messed up. The mini recognized the monitor (titling the System Preferences > Display dialog with 'L246WP') and set it to the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200, but on the monitor the image is cropped to what looks like a 4:3 aspect ratio and with part of the image shifted up and left so I cannot view the top menu bar or the left hand side of the desktop. The monitor's on-screen display shows 1080p in this mode.
The Display dialog also gives me an option for 1080p. I can select this and use the Underscan slider to resize the desktop output to fit on the screen, but it is still shifted left and must be resized smaller than the available display space (plus the total image is only 1080 pixels, not using the monitor's full native screen). In this mode, 1080p also shows on the monitor's on-screen display.
I tried 1024x768 to see if I could get a properly-positioned image, but the desktop was shifted just like in the 1920x1200 case and the monitor's on-screen display status still reported 1080p.
The monitor has a menu setting under an HDMI heading with "Video" and "PC" options, but changing this selection does not make a difference.
Since the monitor came out before HDMI was as widespread as it is today, it came with a DVI-to-HDMI cable, so I also tried using that cable with the HDMI-to-DVI adapter that came with the mini, but this did not make a difference either.
To prove it wasn't the HDMI cable, I connected the mini to my Samsung 6300 series 40" LED HDTV and with some tweaking of the Underscan slider the displayed image filled the screen perfectly.
I've searched the Internet and various forum threads (i.e. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167222&page=63) seem to indicate this monitor can send a corrupted EDID that causes issues, especially with nVidia graphics drivers. On Windows you can use registry or driver hacks to override the EDID with the correct values, but on OS X this doesn't seem possible (I was hoping for a Terminal one-liner but it seems this doesn't exist). I have seen some mentions of the shareware SwitchResX (http://www.madrau.com), which looks like it gives you the option to override resolution settings, but I haven't tried this yet.
It also appears to me that the monitor is always interpreting the signal (or the mini is always sending the signal) as 1080p, even if I've set 1920x1200 in the Display dialog. I don't know if this is a defect in the monitor where it always assumes the HDMI input is a 1080p source (previous I used it with an Xbox 360 with no issues but that was 1080p HDMI), or if is a bug in the graphics drivers (or at least a lack of flexibility / miscommunication to the user trying to handle a corrupt EDID).
I asked my local Genius Bar for advice today (without bringing any hardware in) but was not told anything I didn't already know.
I'm trying to determine the best way to work through this issue. *My questions are:*
Would it make any difference if I used a Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter (and then my DVI-to-HDMI cable to the monitor's HDMI input)?
What about a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter? In the past I used a 12" Powerbook (via a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter) with this monitor and had no display issues like this, but I'd prefer to stick with a digital connection on my brand new mini.
Is SwitchResX the only practical way in OS X to override a corrupt EDID and force the mini to output a certain resolution?
Besides the various adapters and SwitchResX, is there anything else I should try before buying a new monitor?

    Hello EPWilson4984.
I have been experiencing the same issues you described. Connecting my brand new Mac Mini to my Westinghouse 24”monitor (L2410NM,  1920x1200 pixel resolution) produces a very fuzzy and washed out image quality. The Mac recognizes the monitor and applies the right resolution (1920x1200), but it looks just awful. The EDID info is definitely not right.
Now, I tried your suggestion (DVI-to-HDMI), and similar suggestions from other threads, but nothing works. Nothing seems to work at all.
The main input for the monitor is HDMI, so whatever cable I use, in the end always has to connect to the monitor via HDMI. I tried all these combinations with zero success:
Mac mini -> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini -> displayport –HDMI adapter-> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini  -> displayport –DVI adapter-> DVI-to-HDMI cable -> monitor (result: it gives me a blank screen, no image at all)
I’m running out of options. Don’t know what to do. The 24” monitor produces beautiful, crisp images when hooked to my Windows 7 PC. It looks horrible when connected to my brand new Mac Mini.
Any alternatives you may have come across? Please let me know, thank you.

  • Triple Display Issue with OSX Lion

    I have the following setup:
    iMac OSX (Snow Leopard)
    3.06 GHz Intel Core i3
    4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    500GB Hard Drive
I have 3 monitors hooked up, one is a 24 inch benQ through mini display with vga and then i have the 21.5 imac and then a 23 inch acer hooked up with an external usb video card usb to dvi. I had this setup before lion was released when i was using snow leopard and it worked perfectly fine, but now with the lion update it does not work the screen just continuiously flickers on and off; i tried swapping monitors and it still doesnt work so it has to do with a possible software issue.
I have updated to the latest drivers, installed restarted and everything i can think of; does anyone have any suggestions?
This is a video I made of my issue:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h23Rtkfiuq8&feature=channel_video_title
If anyone can help i would GREATLY appreciate it!

I'm pretty sure its not a monitor issue, as the issues vary between monitors
I'm pretty sure this is a display and adapter and interface problem, especially when the name(s) of your display(s)  show up wrong after sleep.
The Mac uses one display driver that is highly parameterized. The parameters to be used are set by sending a query to the display for its name and capabilities. This query is sent on the secondary digital data channel, and is sometimes referred to as EDID data.
Currently both 20's are recognised as 'vga display' or 'color LCD', no resolution options are available, just what it defaults to (640 x 480)
When the name of the display is not correctly reflected in the name of its Display Preferences pane, that is a direct indication the display-adapter-cable-display part of the chain "dropped the ball" in resounding to the Mac's query for capabilities.
Adapters that do not pass the EDID data through, and displays that do not answer when queried for their name and capabilities are the primary source of problems. For example, TV sets that are not "paying attention" to the secondary data channel, and therefore do not answer the query, drive Mac users crazy.
The query is sent in response to four different events:
    • System Startup
    • wake form sleep
    • cable insertion at the Mac-end (not necessarily at the Display-end)
    • The use of the Option-Detect_Displays button in Displays Preferences window

  • Imac does not detect external vga display

Please help with connecting external vga display to an imac 21.5'', late 2012, OS X 10.8.5 via Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
I have connected an external monitor (Fujitsu Siemens) to the thunderbolt port of the imac using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The imac does not detect the external monitor. I have followed all instructions and suggestions I could find at Apple Support Communities without success.
The monitor is in perfectly good working order as it has no problem connecting and performing flawlessly with a dell windows laptop. The imac, connected via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to the D-Sub connector of a Samsung smart TV, also worked perfectly.
To add insult to injury, occasionally, when restarting the iMac with the external vga display connected and powered on, the iMac screen starts intermittently turning blue for a brief second or so and resuming back to normal. The frequency of 'blueing' is once in 2-3 seconds. This particular rather disturbing problem, luckily ceases when the external display is switched off.
Any advice and help with resolving the above connection problems will be gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you
      ghogoh

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

Or this update is only for "Mini DisplayPort to VGA" cable?
    (update URL ; http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_FirmwareUpdate)
Now I have flickering and swaying display issue.
(Mini DisplayPort to Dual-link cable + DELL 3007WFP 30" LCD Monitor)
So I hope this update can be solve my problem.

there are several threads open on this - all stem from problems with the adapter cable (MB571Z/A)

I have the new Mac Mini and a 30" Apple Cinema Display - basically, it 'works' but there are many problems - screen blinks & resolution degrades intermittently, screen saver sometimes crashes into a scramble, and sleep sometimes becomes coma.

  • AppleTV to VGA display

I would like to use an AppleTV2 to output to an older VGA display for demonstration purposes of a product.  The main purpose would be to stream and video or photos over airplay to the AppleTV and then to the VGA display.
Can I use a simple converter HDMI to VGA (I'm pretty sure a cable alone won't do because of digital/analog conversion being required)?  I'm not sure about resolutions though - the screen maybe simply a 1024 x 768 display (though I maybe able to change this).  The VGA display maybe either a projector or a monitor.
    Many thanks
    Ian

There are a couple of issues that you'd need to be aware of before acquiring any products for such a project.
Compliant hardware converters will not permit HDCP content to pass, this sounds as though it may not be a problem to you since you seem to be promoting your own products which I assume implies the video won't be protected.
None of the converters that I have looked at to date (although that's far from all of them) do not scale, which means the output would be widescreen 720p, if your display isn't widescreen your picture will be squashed horizontally, if it doesn't support 720p it likely won't work at all.

  • Triple Display Issue

If anyone can help i would GREATLY appreciate it!

  • T410 Multiple display question

    Hello,
    Here is my question(s).
I have a T410 D++ Display port and a Lenovo Series 75Y5906 Dock with VGA output only.
Do I have the ability to have (2) external displays while docked?
Is the Display port operable while the T410 is docked?
Meaning can I setup External Monitor One: Dock VGA and External monitor two: laptop Display port to create two external displays? or does it have to be undocked to do this?
Thank you in advance for the help,
    Matt

yes the displayport works when you dock to the port replicator.
You can use the dock's vga + displayport on the laptop at the same time.
And welcome to the forum Matt.

  • MBP (early 08) shows VGA display when nothing plugged in

My macbook pro early 2008 shows VGA display when there is nothing plugged in. It performs just like there is an actual display plugged into it. I have run AHT and it tells me nothing is wrong. I have reset pram. I deleted all the prefs that relate to the video prefs. It actually works when i do plug a DVI-> VGA Adaptor, but when i plug the DVI-> Video adaptor in only the s-video works. Composite video ends up with out any luminance. My best idea is there is a pin jammed in there from one of the video adaptors, and it's somehow telling the system that there is an adaptor plugged in, but I'm open to trying anything right now. This computer was purchased 3 years and 1 month ago, so it's just out of apple care.

well it is a hardware issue, at least it has nothing to do with OSX. I did recently delete my bootcamp partition, and I know the windows version of the nvidea driver has a bit more control over things, I'm wondering if I should reinstall bootcamp to see if it is something in the Video Card's rom that Windows changed. I read that somewhere in a post on this board somewhere someone was able to easily change this problem in that driver.... why do you think AHT wouldn't catch the issue?

  • Triple Display issue Mac Pro 4.1, GTX660, GT120.

    Hi guys.
    I have a mac pro 4.1 with a GTX 660 and a stock GT 120.
    The 660 has 2 x DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x Displayport
The GT 120 has 1x MiniDp 1x DVI.
I have both NVIDIA drivers and stock drivers.
    I've recently received a Dell U3011 2560 x 1600 to compliment my 2 20 inch 1600 x 1200 monitors.
I plan to have the 20's flank the u3011 in portrait on either side to create a PLP setup.
The problem is that I can't get them all to work together.
Most of the time the monitor on the left isn't recognised (in system information it is described as color LCD display) and displays a resolution of 480 x 640. The other two monitors will work fine.
If I fiddle with the video outputs on 660 and 120 (mix them up, use adapters etc) I can get all three monitors to display their correct resolution, But if the computer sleeps or is restarted it goes back to low resolution on one monitor and doesn't display an image at all and goes to sleep.
The U3011 is always recognised at its correct resolution via displayport.
Other two are connected to DVI1 on the 660 and the DVI on GT120
Currently both 20's are recognised as 'vga display' or 'color LCD', no resolution options are available, just what it defaults to (640 x 480)
What it is at the moment:
What it was before I had the 30 and was using a 24:
I'm pretty sure its not a monitor issue, as the issues vary between monitors (depending on which is plugged in where)
I'd prefer to resolve this issue by running everything off the 660, allowing me to remove the GT120.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • IMac screen suddenly recognizes VGA display that isn't there? Big problems

    Hello:
My dad was using his iMac G5 when the display went to a blue screen (detected an external display) and formatted to take up a small amount (10-12 inches) of the 17" screen. As I was writing this, the detect display blue screen again flashed and returned to normal.
Under display prefs, it listed a VGA display. However, there isn't even an adapter in the adapter port. Does anyone know what is going on here? I live several hundred miles away and it just so happens that I was here for the weekend. I would like to resolve this asap.
    No AppleCare.
    Thanks,
    Tyler

Sorry to chime in without a solution, only another query along the same lines. I have a co-worker who's imac (24" 2.33 intel) sometimes starts up thinking that there's a second smaller display connected. The first time this happened, the dock didn't show up (she had it set along the right-hand side, it was apparently on the "other" screen), she restarted and it would then show up. A couple of days ago I was doing some updates, restarted, and the dock disappeared again. I noticed that the mouse fully disappeared off the right side. Having seen this behavior when two displays were connected in the past, I went to the display preferences panel and it registered two screens, the main one and a much smaller one on the right side. I clicked the "detect displays" button, which reset it correctly back to a single monitor, thinking issue solved. But this morning the same issue occurred. Easy to fix, granted, but I was hoping there might be a more permanent solution? I don't think there's a single displays preferences file that might be replaced, and I'd just as soon not mess around with pitching the full system preferences file unless that'd be the only solution...
Thanksmuch in advance, and have a good one!
