T410 Won't Boot/Recognize HD After a Blue Screen

Hello, Few days ago, while i have been installing partition magic (during the install - preior to using the utility) i got a blue screen that repeated itself everytime i tried to boot. I have used a utility that comes with windows 7 boot disc, that tried to solve "boot problem". eventually i did not get a blue screen anymore - though now i can't find the HD in the HDs list. I tryied To Run HD Test from the BIOS but it took an hour and it still was 0%. Is that enough to determine my HD is gone? or is there still a way to revive it?(I dont need to restore all the data, i just want to be able to install windows on it) Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, When Windows won't recognize a disk, I sometimes use a Linux based OS to identify and format disk, since it sometimes is a bit more "don't care" mode than windows utilities. You could try to run "Ubuntu Live" from a bootable USB:http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/try-ubuntu-before-you-install 1. Download the ISO:http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop 2. Install the ISO on an USB:https://rufus.akeo.ie/ 3. Boot from USB: When your PC starts, Press F12 and choose the USB you just made bootable in step 2. 4. Use the "Try Ubuntu" utility 5. Open the program: gparted (a disk partition program) 6. See if it can find the HDD, and if it can, try to delete all partitions. Edit: Apply the deletion and then shutdown, and try to install windows again with recovery cds or iso image.

  • Macbook pro won't boot, or crashes after boot

My 2009 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5 either has difficulty starting up, or after start up, it crashes. However, it seems to only crash when attempting to stream video from any web browser I've tried using (Firefox & Safari, (Chrome not supported by 10.5)).
When the computer starts up successfully, all seems ok until I try streaming video, usually from YouTube or similar. Then after about 2 minutes of it playing the video, the screen will freeze, audio will continue, and then the screen flashes wildly like a strobe light, or sometimes a checkered/plaid-like pattern appears on the screen in weird reds and blues.
When the computer does not boot at all, it will either appear to be booting, then freeze on the blue screen. Or as soon as I power up, I'll get the grey screen but it will have the checkered/plaid-like pattern on it, and it will stay there forever until I hold the power to turn it off.
Most of the time booting in safe mode will be successful, and from there I will run Disk Utility, my hard drive appears OK, but I have to repair disk permissions a few times before it says everything is OK. Sometimes attempting to boot in safe mode is not successful, so I will boot in Single User mode and run fsck -fy code until I get the "OK" message.
I'm out of ideas, and the problem doesn't seem to be going away. Do I need to erase the disk and reinstall OS X or  update to a newer version of OS X?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last crash  & the Startup right after that for clues.

  • Macbook won't boot up anymore after trying to reformat

So my White Macbook won't boot up anymore after trying to reformat. While trying to install a fresh copy of Snow Leopard, the Macbook just froze and I had to reset. Now, while trying to boot it up, it hangs at a white screen with a folder with a question mark.
My install disk is still in there, so when I try to boot up while holding C, nothing happens. It either goes to the folder with a question mark or the screen stays white. So after that I tried holding option to go to the drives nothing happens. I just see a white screen and a cursor.
I tried resetting PRAM and tried booting in safe mode and everything but to no avail. Everything results in just a white screen or just a folder with a question mark.
Can I do anything before I have to bring it to the Apple Store? The optical drive should work because before I reformatted it, I could see that the disk was in the drive because the icon was in the upper right.

it hangs at a white screen with a folder with a question mark
Startup your Mac while holding down the Option key. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk.
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac

My HP G7000 G7096EA Won't boot, no post/bios, blank grey screen - It does appear to get into windows after return is pressed, albeit with blank grey screen.
I've reseated the RAM/harddisk, tried the power button reset method. Left it overnight with power battery/power.
I'm at a loss now with what to try. It does look to be a dead graphics chip, which is a shame and will probably put me off HP for life!

Ok, I've stripped it down to diagnose. Due to the piss poor cooling on the graphics chip, it's fried itself and melted the solder underneath.
This was actually the second laptop I had off HP as the first broke within a very short time.
Needless to say, I'll be buying from Dell in the future! What a crock of **bleep** HP are.
Oh yeah! And HP wanted £16 + vat just to speak to some outsourced crappy call centre!

this usually means the software and hardware can't find each other for whatever reason the following article addresses this issue:

can also do apple hardware test, following article on that:

if you can't access the apple hardware test in the above article you can also do fsck command to check the hardware as well, following article tells how to do that:

  • IPhone won't turn on after brief blue screen.

My iPhone is currently broken, won't turn on after a blue screen appeared briefly. Won't even connect to my PC or iTunes. Won't even charge with my charger or using a new charger from a family member. Won't hard reboot by holding home top button. Anyone know what my situation is? Checked over the internet and couldn't find any similiar situations. Also this occured after i was browsing Reddit so nothing intense was occuring on my phone at the time.

I'm afraid you'll have to get it looked at by visiting an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider next to your place or by contacting Apple:

My Powerbook G4 (with Snow Leopard operating system) will not boot up, I get a blue screen. I have tried to start up in safe mode by holding down shift key after startup tone, but end up with same result...blue screen. I need important photos and documents of this laptop, Even if I can just get it started up one more time. Need help fast! If you know what to do, please message back.

In the text you say you are using Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard will not operate on a G4 (or any Mac with a PowerPC processor). Leopard OS 10.5 is the max OS for PowerPC processor Macs. Your profile shows OS 10.5.6. What OS are you using (or trying to use)?
Will the PB boot using a systen install DVD?

  • My phone keeps on looping with the apple logo after the blue screen.

I tried to up date my iPhone 5s thru iTunes and got error statin iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore  this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. Saw a video on you tube to use rec boot. So I downloaded rec boot v1.3 to try and kick it out of recovery mode and my phone keeps on looping with the white screen and black apple logo after the blue screen. I tried kicking it out with tiny umbrella and nothing happens. I was able to put the phone back in recovery mode and try using tiny umbrella while still connect to iTunes and hit exit recovery mode. under log tab it says sending exit recovery request to model # of the phone and nothing happen. My last option is to restore to factory settings which I don't want to do cause I would loose every thing. Can some one tell me I'm doing wrong or how to fix it. I would be greatly appreciate it the help. Thanks in advance.

Its looping because the iOS is not bootable which is why the iPhone booted to the ROM recovery mode.  Try using iTunes 12's 'Update' option when the iPhone is in recovery mode.

  • HELP PLEASE!! Boot problems with Snow Leopard (Blue Screen Loop)

    Hi guys!
My MacBook (the model before the current one) wont boot up. It started stuttering and acting strange and then froze so I did a force restart. It then loaded all the way up until a blue screen when the mouse appears and can be moved. This flickers off after a few moments (the screen dims) and then comes back. The process repeats as if in some infinite loop.
The main problem is that I've lost my snow leopard disc so I'm pretty limited to what I can do until I can borrow / buy another one and I need to get my laptop back up right away for work.
I've tried booting in safe mode, no joy
I then tried to repair the drive in fsck, which repaired something. I did it again and it said all was ok but then booting stuck at the same place.
Finally I read on another forum that removing /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist fixed login loop issues. I attempted this in single user mode but it said the file didnt exist?
Can anyone help me out here? I'm pretty stressed out as all my work stuff is on there for my new job...
    Thanks!!

I had this same problem -- machine would boot, but loop at two blue screens before the login window. I sshed into the machine and checked /private/var/log/system.log and /var/log/secure.log which showed a unexpected character in /etc/authorization. Basically, the authorization file was corrupted (most likely by bad RAM.) The solution was to replace this file with one copied from another machine. I didn't match models, but did match OS when copying the file (i don't know if this matters at all), and as soon as the "cp" command was entered, the login window popped up. <-- totes awesome. The machine has been reliable since (all of 15 minutes)

    Try resetting the SMC

If it has a removable battery, try removing the battery.
If neither works, then you may need to bring it in for service.  Bring the power adapter as well, as you may be able to determine if it is the power adapter at fault, or the computer's power supply.

  • Mac Mini won't boot to Mac after partitioning for Windows 7

    system:
    Mac Mini, late 2009
    Intel
    4 gig ram
500 gig hard drive, brand new
    OSX
Mtn Lion with Mavericks just installed, runs ok
    problem:
Adding 90 gig partition for Windows 7, now won't boot to either Mac or Windows
After a little bit sticky install of Mavericks, I had the thing running fine. I downloaded support sw onto the USB drive as per Bootcamp instructions, and started going through the wizard to install Windows 7.
First try:  "error" while creating the partition. I ran the Disk Utitliy, Verify Disk, found an error, ran Repair, it fixed the error
Second try: it started making the partition again, and then apparently just zipped through the partition making real fast (it finished so fast I could hardly catch it), then shut down in an apparent restart (as it's supposed to?), and from then on it won't reboot all the way. I get about 15 seconds of gray screen, the Win 7 disk jerks a little, then screen goes blank and silence. No hd activity. Tried restarting with all the usual key combinations (Command-R, "X" key, Option key, etc, etc). Nothing will bring the Mac login screen up again.
What gives? It is such b.s. for this stuff to be so flaky. This is all totally current software on the Mac side, running fine for days, and an apparently ok partition created. Fix me, Apple.

Got it. Thanks for the help.  Isn't there any boot disk thing that I can just stick in there that will jerk the OS sideways and give me the Mac login screen, or did the Bootcamp/partition attack just wreck everything?  I don't see why I have to do an entire scrape of my totally updated and formerly working OSX just to retry a routine Bootcamp partition, which the girl at the Mac Store in Seattle here assured me has worked for them all the time.   It really is a crock. Maybe I shouldn't bother trying to put Windows 7 on there at all if all these latest versions are so flimsy. I wouldn't want to have to do it all again. But it looks like I'll have to at least once. And send Apple the bill for my wasted time. I ain't feelin' the glamour.

  • Portege R30 won't boot from SSD after upgrade to SSD and HDD

    Hi
I upgraded my Portege R30-A to add a second SSD (Crucial M550) replacing the optical drive with the new SSD with caddy.
But now the system won't boot automatically from the original SSD.
I could press F12 while turning on my laptop, and bring up the boot manual. Here I can see my original SSD and I can boot from it correctly.
In the boot order in the BIOS, I only see HDD/SSD, USB Memory, ODD .... It doesn't give me the option to choose between SSDs.
Anyway when I boot in this way I get blue screens after a while in win7.
I have tried to instal a HDD as the second disc instead os SSD and the resut is the same.
Is there anything I can do to solve this, now I have to use the second disc as an external USB disc.
    Thanks,

I have experienced the same problem. (I don't know why my previous reply got deleted.)
The problem all relates to the CSM mode of Toshiba BIOS.
The solution is adding a boot partition (FAT32) on the drive that is in the original ODD spot.
Use a Windows 8 Installer (on a USB drive) to build a boot sector on that partition and direct it to the SSD where Windows 7 is installed. Then after you have done all of this, switch back to UEFI mode.
The system should be able to boot Windows 7 properly from the SSD in UEFI mode.

  • Portege R30 won't boot from SSD after upgrade to SSD and HDD under CSM mode

    Hi
I upgraded my Portege R30-ASMBN22 to SSD (Crucial M550) and replace the optical drive by the original HDD with caddy.
In order to install Windows 7, I change the BIOS to CSM mode. But now the system won't boot automatically from the SSD. It only boot from HDD which is in the ODD spot.
I could press F12 while turning on my laptop, and bring up the boot manual. Here I can see my SSD and I can boot from it correctly. However, if I don't press F12 when it starts. It will always try to boot from HDD.
In the boot order in the BIOS, I only see HDD/SSD, USB Memory, ODD .... It doesn't give me the option to choose between SSD and HDD. Is there any other way to change the boot order among HDD and SSD?
    Thanks,
    Louis

    Hi,
I did the same operation to my Portege R30-A-17C, and have the same problem, is there any way to boot without pushing F12 every time.

  • Computer won't boot at all after 10.5.7 update

After installing the 10.5.7 update, and having it hang on the blue screen (as plenty of others did), my mini will not boot past the grey apple logo screen.
I have tried rebooting several times as this seemed to help some others, as well as holding down the Shift key to boot in safe mode, all to no avail.
I inserted the OS X install disk, and ran disk and permissions repair multiple times, also to no avail.
What should I do to get OS X up and running again?
    Cheers.
