T410s hard disk password problems

I recently set user+master hard disk passwords. I know them both. I can boot up with the user password at the HDP prompt.
I now want to change the user password, but it is greyed out in the BIOS. I pressed F1 at the HDP prompt and another icon appears. I presume it wants the master password, but it doesn't accept this nor the user password.
Can anyone explain?

  • Unable to change or disable the KNOWN Hard disk password in BIOS

    Hello,
I am having few problems with my new TP W500.  I have enabled BitLocker Encryption in Vista Ultimate SP1 after I got my laptop and disabled it later. After a while I noticed that HD password option along with the passphrase option in the BIOS got grayed out and I cannot make any changes to the HD password. I know the HD password, system is booting up after I enter the HD password but very same password for the same hard disk is not working when I plug the Hard Disk into my TP T60p.
Called Lenovo support in Atlanta but they could not figure it out. They think HD got stuck encrypted eventhough I decrypted with BitLocker and formatted. Also called Hitachi and they don't have any idea about it. I also cleared and turned off the TPM in addition to clearing and disabling the security chip but  non of these actions were helpful to disable or change the KNOWN HD password. I wonder if reflashing the BIOS would solve it.
I would appreciate if anyone has an idea about this issue.
    Thanks.

  • Power on and hard disk password issue with rescue and recovery ?

I have set a power on and hard disk password to prevent any unauthorized user to boot the computer and thats works fine but the problem is that it can be bypassed very easily by pressing the THINKVANTAGE blue button and going through the initial screen of the rescovery process.
When you reach the main screen of the recovery process just press on "restart system" and on the next boot up you won't be asked for a password and it will boot into Windows. Is there any way to prevent a user to initiate a rescue and recovery to bypass the password or even better a patch that will trigger the password screen as soon as the blue THINKVANTAGE button is pressed ?

I just recently discovered this problem as well.
I'm hoping someone can help us with this.

  • Does EFI (or the firmware) support hard disk passwords?

    hi,
i'm contemplating buying a hard drive out of the new travelstar 5k250 series by hitachi. those drive support what they call "bulk data encryption", which basically is a hardware encryption layer for the whole drive. apparently it is activated by setting an ATA hard disk password. what i'd like to know is if this -- and of course also pre-boot-authentication against such a password -- is supported by the current macbook pro firmware or EFI?
as i got stuck googling for an answer, any information about this would be greatly appreciated!
    cheers,

I would try resetting your NVRAM and PRAM, as per this docucument.
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
You should be able to startup normally after this, as well as use your install disc to reinstall the entire OS if you wish.

  • Can the Finger Print Reader be used for the Hard Disk Password at Power-On Boot Time on the W700?

I own a W700 and I have enabled the Hard Disk password at boot time (I have 2 HDDs, so there are two password prompts).
I always type in the passwords, but was wondering if the Finger Print Reader can be used instead?
The Finger Print Reader works fine from Windows 7 logon onwards, but it would also be nice to use it at system boot time, after powering on.
Please let me know if this is possible.
    Thanks!

Sorry I did not get back online quick enough...but the passwords are the same.
For some reason, after my first cold boot, I was still prompted for the hard disk passwords.  I powered down again and when I powered back up, it signed me on all the way through.  So it was just a hiccup.
All is good now and I'm very happy!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

There are 2 ways of running a test on your hard drive . One way is through BIOS (F10) and other is through HP System diagnostics(F2). How exactly was test initiated from your end ?
The SMART imminent failure for Hard drive is an indication that your Hard drive is on verge of failure or might fail anytime depending on usage. I would recommend you to backup your files immediately because your hard drive might die at any moment and I'm pretty sure its needs to be replaced.
Kindly check the instructions over here in order to run the test for your hard drive

  • Reformatting Hard Disk - any problems with CC?

I want to reformat my hard disk and start again - its got to that point where the PC seems to be running slowly and the OS needs re-installing. It's Windows 7 Pro 64-bit version.
Does anyone know if there are any issues with re-installing CC? I'm worried that doing this will use up one of my licenses and I won't be able to put a copy on my laptop in the future. (We're allowed two copies aren't we, one on the PC and one on a Laptop, for example?)
    Thanks for any help.
    Brian

    Hi Brianpeart,
    Welcome to Adobe Forum,
The CC has been activated twice.
you can deactivate it in two ways.
    1. Launch any of the CC application and go to Help>Sign Out(Adobe ID)
For CS6 apps Go to Help>Deactivate
2.Go to Preferences of Creative Cloud and in "General" tab click on "Account" and click the button "Sign Out from Creative Cloud".
    Note:
It will deactivate all applications associated with your Adobe ID installed on the same machine.
    or
When you install it on the third computer or for the third time & when you to activate it, if it installed & activated already twice, there will be an option of deactivating it from the previous computers, please click on that.(To deactivate from preinstalled machine, Open any Adobe CC application > Help Menu > Signout.)
Next it will allow you to activate on your new machine,
Now you can go back to your first computer, log out & log back in of Desktopp CC App, launch any product, if there is any product to buy, in that prompt there will be an option to " license the software", please click on that & sign in.
It will reactivate the CC on the first machine.
You have already deactivated it from one machine, hence you can activate it on third computer.

  • Ultra Sparc 10, WD 80GB Hard Disk format problem

How does one get over the - Contact manufacturer for formating error ?
I have an US10, and am trying to install a 2nd Western Digital 80GB hard disk.
The format command sees this disk as a 2nd disk but only of 11GB capacity.
It does not let me format this disk further.
    Any help appreciated.
    Arvind.

    HI ARAVIND,
First of all I have not so far seen any limitation to disk size on ultra 10. Recently, i.e., 3 days back, I
installed an 80GB Seagate Baracuda HDD on Ultra 10, of course with some teeting problems. At first
I could get only 11.3 GB by default, or 64.5 GB by forcing the disk geometry. I really tried hard to make
this work beyond 64.5GB. As this was for a customer of ours, we had to make it work. I was frantically
searching the internet, and landed in some forum, where somebody replied to exactly similar query to
install Solaris 8 for HDD of capacitiies higher than 20GB. So Bang, I changed the OS to Solaris 8. But
Alas! I got only 74.5 GB capacity. Again went back to Seagate site and found that the figure of 156,301,488
MAX SECTORSwhen multiplied with 1024*1024*1024 you arrive at 74.5 GB, whereas if multiply this
number by 1000*1000*1000 you arrive at 80 Billion Bytes. However I am able to use this disk without any
problem now. So first install Solaris 8 and continue your R&&D. I wasted 4 days in getting this info.

  • Help NEEDED! External Hard Disk Drive Problem!

    Dear Forum,
I am using MacBook with snow leopard and I am also using a WD Ext.HDD 500GB. Ok, I will described in detailed regarding what problem has occurred so that you guys can help me:D. Firstly, I formatted my wd hdd to hfs+j as the default format is NTFS. Then afterwards, I forgotten that hfs+j cannot support windows, thus I partition it to 2, with one hfs+j and one Fat32(formatted to ntfs when in windows), then I realised that my macbook don't have enough space, thus, I reformatted the whole hdd to one partition only, hfs+j. Now, the problem comes, when I formatted it to hfs+j, I found the free space not right, at default, the wd is 499.41GB(as seen on disk utility), but when I look at the hfs+j partition, the free space is only 499.06GB(as seen on disk utility with no files in it). Another thing, when I looked into the disk utility info of my hfs+j partition, there is 400+MB of hard disk space already taken. Then, I transferred one of my files(4.82GB) into my ext.hard disk, when the transfer is complete, I 'get info' my ext.hdd and found out that 5.26GB are taken up, but I have only transferred 4.82GB of files. So what is happening to my hard disk? Any ways to fix this problem guys?
I really need your help! I will appreciate greatly if you guys can help me, thanks!:D
    Regards
    Ala.

The odd 400MB is the hidden files put there by the system to define the file structure of the partition, plus other stuff like .Trash. It's perfectly normal and the HDD wouldn't be recognised if they weren't there.
You will see a similar situation with the internal boot drive if you compare the Drive size (leftmost item with the manufacturers designation) and that of Macintosh HD (which is the working partition). In my case this shows 640.14 GB for the drive, 639.79 GB for Macintosh HD, a difference of 350MB
This will be the same within about ± 50MB whatever drive you format in HFS+J, including pen drives.

  • Eminent hard disk failure problem

    hai !
    my notebook is g62 series.
operating system - windows 7 64-bit home basic
my problem is eminent hard disk failure, can u solve this problem as soon as possible.

Seems that it is a hard disk failure. You could run a hard disk diagnostic test.
Once you turn on the notebook, keep tapping F2. Select hard disk test and hit enter to run it.
take note of the result and call hp tech support at 1-800-474-6836 so it could be serviced.

  • External hard disk drive problem with windows laptops?

my other hard disk drive cannot be read or write on windows and on my macbook pro 13.

If the HDD cannot be read on either machine, it may have failed.  Connect it to your MBP and open Disk Utility.  Is it recognized there?

  • T410 power on password problem

    hi,
i have a t410. it was working normally. i removed the keyboard for a reason, then place it again. After that, i powered on and black screen appeared with a small lock icon upper left, requesting password. as far as searching on google, it should be bios password. i cannot enter bios as well.
i removed the keyboard again to remove the bios battery, removed it, waited for a while and place everything. i powered on the computer but it is the same.
1- why it doesnt appear before keyboard removal and started to appear after that?
2- how can i handle that?
    thanks...

  • Compatible lenovo t410 hard disks

hello, My hard drive in my lenovo t410 has stopped working and i am looking to buy a new one. I read that the it supportes max capacity of 500GB and compatible with micro SATA 2. I did not understand what "micro SATA2" means, and i wonder if that information is up to date. so my question is can the t410 take any 2.5" Hard Drive - 1T/750GB/500GB 7200RPM/5400RPM with sata3/sata2? for example, can i buy any of the following hard drives for my lenovo t410? Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10JPVX 1TB 5400RPMHGST Travelstar 7K1000 HTS721010A9E630 1TB 7200RPMWestern Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKX 750GB 7200RPMWestern Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BPKX 500GB 7200RPMWestern Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000LPVX 500GB 5400RPM thanks.

Hi, Micro SATA interface is usually present on 1.8" inch height hard drives. SATA2 has a maximum transfer rate of 3Gbit/s, so SATA3 HDD's with 6Gbit/s will work as 3Gbit/s in a SATA2 interface. The maximum capacity is based on your OS partition scheme. MBR supports 2 TB while GPT supports... a lot. GPT requires that your BIOS boot system is set to UEFI (instead of legacy).

  • T410 Hard drive Password

If I enable the secure password function in the BIOS, (the setting that lets passwords up to 64-long),  what are the allowed characters?

    Hello ThinkPadT410.
I'm sorry you're having this problem, but you'll need to remember the password on your own or ask the person who gave the Laptop to you.  The forum rules prohibit discussing bypassing passwords.
