T42 BIOS Upgrade fails - laptop just restarts

I tried to upgrade the BIOS in a T42, without success (from 3.05 to 3.23).
The BIOS upgrade program asks four questions, then starts -- but the laptop does immediately reboot. No change is done to the BIOS.
What can be the cause, and what might be the remedy?

Welcome to the forum!
Two things to check:
a) Is the BIOS locked or you are able to make changes to the settings?
b) Is BIOS updating by users enabled?
Good luck.

  • HP dv6930es bios upgrade fail

    Hi all!
Days ago I was upgrading the bios but a restart fails and now the laptot doesn't starts. When I plug the battery charger the connector lights turn on... but nothing else is running in the laptop.
I have been trying to do a bios recovery following the steps found in other sites, making a USB with wincris, the last bios version, etc. hiting Win + B keys...but I have not been able to recovery the laptop.
Some one can describe step by step all the process???
I heard that the best solution is to replace the corrupted bios chip for another one whit a correct bios version.
    Someone can help me?
Thank you very much in advance!

    Which BIOS sofpaq was it?
I made no mention of a recovery USB flashdrive, but the tutorial for making one is in the ilink below.

  • Compliant - G780 BIOS Upgrade Broken laptop

    Hi
(Not quite a dup of: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Lenovo-G780-not-working-after-BIOS-update/td-p...
Please take this as a warning to anyone about to upgrade to the newest (Apr 2013 BIOS for Windows 8)
Im very unhappy atm, I have installed the upgrade and like the person in the other post my laptop no longer works!
I have tried the workaround someone suggested on the other post and initially it seemed to work, however turning off UEFI has meant I no longer have VT-X support for virtualisation I bought the higher end spec so I could run my development VMs on the laptop, but no I cant unless I remove all the fancy stuff from the VM itself, and as I run Visual Studio and Sql Server on my development VM thats impossible... all these things worked prior to the upgrade.
Lenovo need to pull the upgrade for G780 or apply a fix immediately, (perhaps a downgrade for the BIOS) because I currently have a £600 worthless paperweight and all I can find for contact is expense 0845 numbers...
    So not best pleased
    Lee

"all these things worked prior to the upgrade."
So what was the reason for the upgrade to start with ? It seams as though you just broke it for no reason..
Its not cheap computers that are the problem, its the people that can now afford to use them thats the problem.

  • X200 auto-update BIOS upgrade failed? system no longer boots

    Hi,
I've had an X200 for around 7 months now and just did an auto-update earlier today. One of the items was a BIOS update, so I thought what the heck, it should be fine, always has been before. The update completed correctly and shuw down for reboot as planned.
The system now no longer boots. Nothing at all happens. When I press the power button, no matter whether with AC supply or on battery, the following happens:
    - num lock, caps lock, HDD and 'power on' lights light up for a second or so then go off again
    - they come back on again for another second, and off again
    - then only the bluetooth light and the 'power on' light remain lit, and nothing else happens
It seems pretty fried to me. What can I do? I'm in severe despair! :'(
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Phil

    Hans;
Thank you for the reply.  Say hiya to Amelia for me.  Does this mean you're an alien?
Ok, I tried using bootable CD and no go.
I don't really have a simpler graphics card around to try that.  So that test may not happen.
I can try with one dimm when I get home (I'm at work atm.)
I also thought about putting the drive into another system and will try that also later today or tomorrow morning.
D-Bracket:  I will have to watch that again.  It really didn't make sense to me as the lights went through a lot of the steps then came to a halt at what I think was BIOS Sign on.  Someone did suggest to me that I might have a virus, which may be why the second hard drive failed eventually.  But I'm not sure about that and not sure what can be done about that unless clearing CMOS would take care of it.
    So, any new thoughts?

  • CQ 5.6.0 to 5.6.1 upgrade failing on Tomcat7 restart

All - wanted to know if anybody is having a similar experience in upgrading from CQ (AEM) 5.6 to 5.6.1, and whether you could suggest a remedy.
The problem we're having with 5.6.1 can be replicated easily on an AWS Linux instance installing a fresh 5.6.1 installation (i.e. bypassing any upgrade that would happen by installing 5.6.0 first) and following the instructions provided by AEM at https://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/deploying/installing_cq.html#Tomcat%207. Steps to replicate:
    1. [OK] Launch a fresh AWS Linux installation using the latest AMI provided by Amazon
    2. [OK] Install Oracle Java (1.7.0_25) and Tomcat 7 (7.0.40 - which is the latest version provided by Amazon); Tomcat 7 is configured to use oracle Java
    3. [OK] Follow the instructions provided to configure tomcat7 and AEM author
    4. [OK] Visit the login page on the AEM author - this works
    5. [OK] Stop tomcat7
    6. [OK] Start tomcat7
    7. [FAIL] Visit the login page on the AEM author - this hangs, telneting to the HTTP port used by tomcat doesn't connect
So basically everything is fine until you restart Tomcat. The same behaviour is observed when doing an upgrade - so doing an inplace upgrade from 5.6.0 to 5.6.1 succeeds but breaks when the tomcat service is restarted.
    All comments warmly received. Thanks

Hi Sham - tried that but in CRXLite there is nothing resembling cqse-httpservice in /libs/system/install; we only have the following:

    org.apache.sling.tenant-1.0.0.jar

  • BIOS upgrade failed screen blank now

    Following is the problem:
Problem started when :- Think Vintage pop up to update BIOS and I said
yes and it could not complate it.
Now I am getting blank screen Power , battery, (Z) indicators are working (Some sound from drive if I put cd ).
Please help me it is very urgent
I brought laptop T61 -7658-cto  from USA and now I am
in UK and the notebook is not booting. I try to contact your technical
    contacts but no reply.
Is there a way to fix this problem without sending it to US
    Thanks in advance
    Dijo

that would probably require a motherboard replacement, not sure whether depot can reflash your bios. Since your machine is a CTO then you would have to send it back to USA for service. Call Lenovo service in USA log a service call, then courier the machine back to the depot, after fixing it they will courier it back to you i think.

  • Bios update failed, laptop doesn't boot

Hi everyone. I'm having a major problem with my HP 2000-355DX. I tried to update it to the latest BIOS version using the BIOS file I downloaded from the HP drivers and software section. The BIOS updated and then restarted. Upon restart the screen stayed black and the caps lock key blinked twice. I found out that this means a BIOS corruption error. I have tried booting with windows key + B but it does not work.  Is there anyway I can create a BIOS recovery flash drive? I dont get why this would happen

I downloaded the original BIOS and extracted it onto a flash drive named HP_Tools. I then booted the PC while pressing windows key + B. The lights begin to blink on the USB stick and blick for about 5 seconds before the caps lock key starts blinking again. This leads me to believe the PC is searching for a BIOS recovery file but can not find out. Can anyone help with this?

  • New Satellite L50-C - wont allow updates and windows 10 upgrade, keeps asking to restart

Hi, hope someone can help:I picked up a new laptop yesterday with windows 8.1 installed and followed the prompts to upgrade to windows 10.  The computer downloaded what I presume were the updates for 8.1 to get it up to date before starting the windows 10 installation.  It has also downloaded the data for the windows 10 upgrade as I am now getting the prompt telling me the upgrade is ready to install. However, when I click on 'start the upgrade now' in the windows 10 upgrade box the laptop just restarts and boots back up to a windows 8.1 login.  Once logged into desktop Windows Update opens up and tells me that I need to restart to complete install of updates.  I click on the restart and the computer restarts but with no message telling me during the restart process that updates are installing as you might usually expect.  The boot-up then bring me back to the same point (login screen, then win8.1 desktop and Windows update again popping up asking for a restart).  I have followed these prompts and done several restarts thinking that it is working through bringing the updates in one by one however the update list doesn't vary when I check:  I ran the troubleshooter for update and got the following message: However even after doing this a couple of times I still have the same problem.  After reading up on these forums and elsewhere I tried running sfc/scannow (no issues detected). Can anyone help?

Which Satellite L50-C? There is a label on the bottom.
Scroll down in the Troubleshooting report so we can see what's under Issues found.

  • Tried BIOS upgrade. Ruined computer?

I was out of my element but I don't know of anyone in my town to ask for help.
Here's the story. Subject is a PM8M3-V motherboard with a Celeron 3.2 CPU. I thought I would like to try a Pentium 4 CPU since they are just about giving them away but was told that in order to use it I had to upgrade my BIOS to V1.5. Mine is 1.4.
I was given the link to down load the update program, ran it and selected Windows mode and nothing happened. Seemed to work but never rebooted and never upgraded the BIOS. SO- I tried the DOS mode. Nice pretty stuff on the screen and the floppy was written to but once again, nothing appeared to happen and the hard disk activity stopped. I waited a long while and still nothing so I did a hard reboot and was presented with NOTHING on the screen.
I remember seeing some reference to the fact that the floppy would save me if the BIOS upgrade failed but it seems it is not going to help me.
So, my question is - any way out of this mess that I have gotten myself into or do I just scrap the computer?
I appreciate any help I can get.

See this topic re: BIOS Recovery:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0
Exactly which P4 CPU (model, part or spec code number) are you referring to? Not all are supported on that MB.
I don't think the P4 is really important because it hasn't even been shipped yet but I'll study the link you sent, Hope I can make some use of it.
    Many thanks,

I am after some advice on how to access photos on an iPad that were synced from a now failed laptop? The question stems from a need to return my current iPad having just taken delivery of a new unit. Thanks

If you have a dropbox account, there's a free app (probably more) that syncs photos to your dropbox account - picbox.
There's also PhotoSync that syncs photos to/from a number of different services and devices.

Were you using Acrobat IX standard or pro version? Is Acrobat currently installed on your system?

  • Upgrading to 10.6 fails, mac just turns off

    I got a used mac from a friend. It's a macbook (A1181) white. 2gb ram, 160gb hdd, 2.0ghz
It had 10.4.11 (i think) installed on it.. cant remember exactly the last digit. I need atleast 10.5 in order to use xcode, so I got 10.6.
I popped the dvd in, chose to reformat the hdd, and the installation started.
About 3 mins in the laptop just turned off.. fan turned off, everything. black screen.
Now whenever I go to start the install again, it just shows the grey apple logo, the spinning wheel thing shows for about 10-15 seconds, and then it shuts off.
The computer was working perfectly fine before this.
As a side note, there isn't a battery plugged in, just using the magsafe cord... not sure if this matters.
edit: ive tried pressing the power button without the magsafe/battery in. I've tried resetting the PRAM, still nothing. I've waited for it to cool down even.. still nothing.

Try starting in single user mode. At the prompt type fsck -fy remember to leave a blank space before the "-fy". This will run a file system check, like Repair Disk and repair any problems if it can. If you run into errors run fsck multiple times until it reports OK. Then, type  reboot to restart to OS X.

  • H77MA-G43 Failed BIOS Upgrade, Now BIOS Corrupted

    PC Specs:
Intel Core i7 3770 Ivy Bridge
    2X Kingston RAM Modules 4GB 1600Mhz
    MSI H77MA-G43 Mainboard
    NVIDIA GeForce GT240 Video Card
    Hello everyone:
So, i've been searching for a solution everywhere, for quite a while now, and nothing... ergo this Forum Topic,
    My Situation went like this:
    1. Clean Install of Windows 8 x64, in UEFI Mode
    2. LiveUpdate Tool installed
    3. BIOS upgrade went in progress, part of the LiveUpdate automatic update
    4. Accidentally confirmed the upgrade, while i was doing other things (i know, feel so stupid)
    5. BIOS upgrade tool, erases BIOS 100% for Re-write it (Check )
    6. BIOS upgrade tool starts to write the new firmware and BOOM Blue Screen of Dead in the middle of the process [NVIDIA DLL related issue]
    7. Reboot computer
    8. Now the board, is gracefully useless. Dead. No startup of nothing.
So, i understand that the BIOS is corrupted, i read in my Mainboard's feature page that it's possible to overwrite the BIOS from an USB Drive, but requires that the old BIOS start and boot from the USB Drive, so what should i do? i mean, i really don't have to post any problem almost ever, but this it's way out of my line of knowledge, so kindly i ask for someone help.
PS: i'm not so Dummy when it comes to computers. but for this treat me like one, so i understand really well how to solve this, because i really. don't want to buy another mainboard,
Thank you all in advance, i apreciate what comunities do for dummies like me...
    Regards to you again.

i've been reading the last thread, been trying to do it with a usb stick... but i really don't know the thing with CTRL+HOME, it presses after computer start?, once? keep pressing?, multiple times?, that kind of things are not specified on the guide, my Bios file is about 8MB, so i guess it takes its time... without the screen feedback is so frustrating.... i can't found a specific guide for this boards, all of this is try and hope... there should be information more specific... i mean, should i contact MSI Tech support? you think, they would be helpful?
It was long time ago i cant remember how the process went. Did you also tried with the original drivers CD as i suggested before?
Yes is better you contact MSI support, in the meantime just get to a store to see if they have the tools to flash it.
