T42 Driver and updates - How to pick form a list of 89 updates

Does anyone know how to load only the drivers and updates needed for a T42 running XP? I didn't have the OEM version. There are so many updates for the wireless card, H/D, video, LAN, KYBD and pad, etc, etc, etc...
Is there an automated way for the system to pick the updates it needs?

Download Thinkvantage System Update (TVSU) from here.
But if you are doing a clean install of XP on your T42 this might not work correctly. If you instead call Lenovo support and ask them to send you T42 XP recovery disks (at a charge) you can reset your T42 to factory settings (as it was when it was new.) You then install TVSU and it will now correctly update all drivers to latest level.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

How do I have catalog on an external drive and update tags from multiple computers?

I have catalog on an external drive but the tags are on the computer. Is there any way that tags can be placed on the external drive so that other computers can access and update?

In case its just the tags that you want to have in one catalog that is easy.From multiple computers save the tags to the xml file.Copy the xml file to the external drive where the catalog resides.From there you can import the tags into the catalog.

HT1349 I have replaced the hard-drive and updated the operating system of my laptop computer. How do I deauthorize computers I don't have anymore?

I received an error message from iTunes store regarding my recent app purchase. I already have 5 authorized computers so I can't sync the purchased app from my current computer.
My problem is, within four months I replaced the operating systems to my desktop and laptop. As for the other 3 authorized computers are long gone (when I didn't understand I had to deauthorize computers).
Can someone help me with this problem? I can't get internet at my home so I have to go to the local library or coffee house and get wifi, so I need to access my itunes from my laptop. How can I reset these accounts so I can keep the two I need?

Can I install a 1 terabite hard drive and update it with time machine?

What would I need to do? I have a 250 gig hard drive now, I would like to install a 1 terabite. Would I need to install the os then update it with the time machine backup to have everything that I have now? I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch with OSX Snow leapord. I had gotten this notebook mid summer of 2010. Any comment would be appreicated.

Right now, I have a 320 gig hhd that I use for my time machine backup, I recently backed up my notebook, if I decide to upgrade the hhd to a 1 tera, I will get another 1 terahhd for time machine backup. I just wanted to know if I could change the hhd, install the os and instead of installing all the drivers, music, movies that I purchased, if time machine backup would do that for me. HP's hpvsa controller driver and updating SLES11

Just had a nice time doing a wagon upgrade from sles11sp2 to sles11sp3 on an HP ML310e gen8 server with a B120i controller. Apparently HP does not allow inclusion of this driver in supported distributions. Link below explains this. During the upgrade, it's complains about a conflict and gives you a few choices. With the aid of a Novell support person, we chose to remove the driver. Once the upgrade was complete, the server would not find the logical drive correctly and did not come back up. Making a long story short, the hpvsa driver was not present via the channel to present the array correctly to the os the way it was configured. (virtual abstract of the mirror) It seen the logical drive as individual disks with the partitions on them.
So anyone with either a B120i or B320i controller should watch out for this. A possible work around (which I did not get to try) would be to have the upgrade remove the driver, then prior to restarting your system, reinstall the hpvsa driver for the patch version you are updating to. After discussing it, this is what the Support person thought of after we got the machine going. It wouldn't have mattered if I did this via any other upgrade method (zypper, offline dvd, etc) according to him due to the driver not being on the media. He also suggested to install and use UUID instead of device id's when configuring the storage and partitions.

My laptop is HP pavilion g6 Notebook x-64 based PC with Intel Core i5 and 1 GB RAM. I triple booted Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9926 along with Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Today, in Windows 10 Technical Preview,I decided to update my graphics drivers as
I was having issues in adjusting the brightness of my screen. But to my shock the screen went blank after the graphics driver update. Even after a few hard reboots nothing is showing in Windows 10 Tech Preview.
What is causing this issue and what could be the possible solution ?

The driver also broke (believe it or not) my Lync Client and SCCM Console.
I had to uninstall the driver in appwiz.cpl and then open the display adapter up in the Device Manager and then Uninstall the driver from there to get it fully removed. Rebooted and SCCM + Lync worked again.
I never would have believed it possible for a display driver to impact software in this manner.
My co-worker who is also running the 10 Preview had the driver come back down and immediately break his Lync client again.

I am trying to back up my iPhoto library to a WD Passport external hard drive and wondering how to do this

Hi. I am putting my Mac desktop into storage for almost a year and I want to back up my iPhoto library onto a WD My Passport to keep with me and also if I can on to the Airport Time Capsule.
How can I do this successfully? I have about 15,000 photos on the desktop. Or would I be best to us iCloud? Is it expensive? How do I tell how big my iPhoto library is?
How do I know my backups have worked?

Apple have specific instructions for moving the library.. follow it and make sure the library is working by then opening it from iphoto.

When i go to type in pages, nothing shows? I recently had an authorized apple technician replace my hard drive and update my operating system to MAC OS X 10.6.8 . Are they related. I Have Pages 08' 3.0.1

When I go to type in Pages, nothing shows. I am able to open up and click on word processing template etc. I have a fairly old IMac and just updated my operating to OSX 10.6.8. I'm wondering if the upgrade affected Pages - have Pages 08 version 3.0.1. tried restarting but did not work.

I need to create new view for list like Access form in Sharepoint. I go to Lists-Parameters -> Create View -> Access view.
Then I create form in Access and save in Sharepoint site. This file have saved like .accdb. How I can choose this view for default view for my list?

According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use the Access view in a list.
There is no OOB way to use the Access view as a default view in SharePoint 2010.
In SharePoint 2010, when create an view in Access 2010, you can only choose to ‘Save to SharePoint Site’ to save the .accdb file to a SharePoint document library.
User then can access the reports or forms in the document library instead. The .accdb file will be opened in Access application.
If you publish the Access database to Access Service, it will create a new site for the Access database, you can view the forms and reports in browser.

How can I move all my iTune downloads and downloaded CD to an External Drive and still register in iTunes on my iMac?

I have nearly used up my iMacs 1T drive downloading my CD collection to it, I have a Seagate 1T that has plenty of room on it to transfer my library of music. However I do not know how to A. send the entire music library to a seprate drive, and B. how to run iTune so it still reads the file on another external drive... anyone know to accomplish this effectively?

Hard drive and Lion problems

Since trying to do the Lion update on Weds my iMac has been playing up, basically when i going into disk utility and run "verify disk" i get error messages telling me to insert my OS X install cd so that i can repair the hard drive, i do this and when i try to repair the hard drive it tells me it cannot do it and that i need to wipe the hard drive and re install OS X form the cd. Ive done that twice since Weds and both times after ive installed the OS and then run disk verify it comes up telling me the same massages as before. The iMac was bought in March, ive looked after it so i cant see how there are problems. Its still under 1 year guarantee so do i take it back and get a replacement? Also when installer lion it tells me it something to do with 'no recovery' can anyone help me with this im fairly new to mac so keep it easy for me

Did you upgrade to Lion? If so, repair your internal HD from the Recovery HD. See Using the Recovery HD. (but you may not have one, because of the other message.)
If you're still on Snow Leopard, and Disk Utility can't repair the file system, it's possible a 3rd-party Disk Repair app like DiskWarrior, can. It's about $100, though, and there's no guarantee.
Another option, if you have backups (you should, you know): erase the drive and restore them.

Both time machine drive and startup disk can't be repaired by disk utilities and needs to be formatted!!??

ok so i accidentally remove the USB while my laptop was backing up to the time machine partition on my external HDD. I plug it in again, and no time machine partition. just the other part (fat 32 partition). so i open disk utilities.. the partition is there but grayed out. so I repair it.. and it says it cant repair it i need to back it up and format it. ok great.. i tried to do that and it said it can't access the disk.. super.
any way.. i don't know why i decided to check my other drives and see how they're doing.. and it turns out.. my startup disk has problems.. and you guessed it.. it can not be repaired:D so i restart in recovery mode.. did it again.. and? it can't be repaired.. i need to backup the drive and format it... (like the same problem with the time machine partition) just great! so i restart the laptop.. it safe boots.. I dnno why.. and everything is like it was.. I mean I don't see a problem with my drive.. i can do everything but that "cant repair" thing is scaring me.. what should I do? just leave it? or brace myself for a possible HDD death? As you have indicated, you don’t want to touch the partitions on your existing external drive because it has live files in the FAT32 partition for which there are no copies anywhere else. That leaves you with two sets of data that are currently not backed up: your FAT32 partition and your system drive. I suggest you need at least one more external HD for backups.
A “backup” drive should never have live files on it because should that drive fail all the live files on it would be lost. So you need a second external HD anyway for a proper backup scheme.
I would partition a new disk as you have the current one and then copy all the FAT32 files form the old disk to the new one. Then you can try repartitioning the old drive. I would then setup a backup scheme to periodically clone the new FAT32 drive onto the old FAT32 one, using the new disk for your live FAT32 files and dedicating the old disk to backups. You could also continue using the old disk for Time Machine backups.
You can use Mac cloning software such as Carbon Copy Cloner to maintain the cloned backup copy of your FAT32 data.

Problems with hard drive after update

I updated something on my macbook pro 2 nights ago. I'm pretty sure it was a mavericks update. After doing so my iphoto wouldn't open. It was stuck on opening. So I shut everything down. When I tried to start it back up it failed. I've tried everythign I've read it seems to no avail. It says the hard drive is find. But the volume Macintosh HD won't repair. I get this message "Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files." like so many others have. Only I can't reformat the disk. I put the OS on a flash drive and thats how I'm using it right now. What can I do? I can't afford disk warrior. If I buy another hard drive, will I somehow be able to get whats on the old one off? It says 130gb are still used up which is about what I had so I guess all my pictures are still on there? Also I no longer have iphoto when booting from an external disk. It wants to charge me 15 bucks. Shouldn't this be saved under my apple id or soemthign?

Someone said they had this same question. Was there a mass mess up this past update? I read Apple will tell you its just coincidence ahd something to do with it happening to others but I think thye should be able to do something.

Help with new hard drive and data recovery

I have a macbook pro 13" from early 2011...last week the hard drive crashed and after a few hours at the genius bar had to got tekserv to recover my data and get a new hard drive and update to 8GB of Ram. When I got my macbook back I was given an external hard drive that had everything from my old hard drive saved by the users on the old hard drive. I was hoping I could just transfer the user over to the new hard drive but since I had to restart the computer as a new computer I am not able to just reassign my old profile as the new one on this laptop. Maybe I've done something wrong but at this point I transferred all my documents over, moved my music and pictures over but I have a few things I can't figure out that I'm hoping someone can help with.
1. Do emails that were in my mail program from both gmail and my verizon.net program get saved somewhere or do I have to just assume those were lost?
2. my iTunes library is now there but none of my playlists are there. Should those have been saved somewhere in my iTunes folder that I should see them? I'm concerned about syncing my iPhone or iPads to iTunes without those there.

Obtain drivers from MS-Server and updates from WSUS

Hi,
is there a possibility to obtain drivers from the MS Server and the "other" updates from the WSUS-Server?
We have workstations with Win7 and XP and pluged in devices (USB) should obtain the drivers (if available) automatically from MS-Server.
Obtaining drivers through WSUS is not an option.
The Group Policy "Computer Configuration\...\Windows Update" is set to obtain updates from "intranet Microsoft update service location".
Should there be no possibility to distinguish between driver and update obtaining locations,
then is it possible to set WSUS as primary obtaining location and as secondary the MS-Serve?

I ask, because this is exactly the setting that has to be changed so that everything works the way I want.
(at least for the Win7 PCs. I don't care much about the XP-PCs because they will be replaced in the near future)
Well one option is to change this setting manually on every PC, but this would be a huge PITA.
Can this be done in a policy or with a script (registry?)?
