T42 Restore factory configuration impossible - but recovery part exist

Hello,
I have a T42 (IBM bought in my business school)
When  I bought it the PC had 4 part in the Hard Drive
2 part visible
- C: SYSTEM
- E: USER DATA
1 part hidden
- IBM_Service W:  (the recovery part) - all the program and a 2 drive partition C and D or E
+ BIOS
To be able to restore the factory configuation I had in the menu to start Windows Two choices
- Start Windows normally
- Restore factory configuration
Due to a problem on the laptop I had to restore the factory configuration 2 or 3 times in the last two yearss. It worked well two times.
But  Last time the Laptop did not recognize after the restoration the E: DRIVE. It was on the computer but with no name and no possibility to access it.
I uses TESTDISK to regive a name E to this part and be able to use it and restore the data in it but during the process the Recovery part (Drive W which was hidden appeared on the System list
On the same time the choice "Restore factory configuration " on the list of the start of Windows disappear. I use my friend computer to put back on the list the name of the choice but this link can't restore the Factory configuration because it is no longer configurate for it.
Is there a possibility to boot the PC on the Recovery part in order to restore the factory configuration?
does this manipulation will keep my 2 drive configuration C: + USER DATA drive (E with all the data saved in it? That works the first two times
Thanks in advance for your help
This will help me very much
Thieum
Sorry for the english I did my best

Whoever told you this was mistaken.  With the exception of hardware changes (eg modem from T41 to T42) the disks within a series should work just fine (I've just recovered aT41 with my T42 CDs).  The only difference in using early T42 recovery with a later T42 is the fingerprint reader.  Later T42 disks should work just fine with an early T42.  Go ahead and use your T42 disks on her machine.

  • Rescue and Recovery with T40 booting the system (XP) without restoring factory configuration

    (plus bas en français)
    Hi,
I've a T40 which I want to restore the factory configuration.
I've installed the up-to-date version of Rescue and Recovery but :
    - when launching Rescue & Recovery from XP, it does not offer to restore the factory configuration
    - at least, this is feasible when I press the "Access IBM" blue button when starting the computer...
    - ... even if factory configuration restore is available there, it does not work. Indeed, it asks me to confirm and then starts the computer again without restoring anything.
Can someone help me please ?
    Bonjour,

    hey sylvain,
for the Rescue and Recovery to work, did you make a backup of the system via recovery media ?

  • T42 Restore Factory State problem

    Hello fellow thinkpad-ers,
I am trying to help out a friend, who had her laptop formatted by some idiot, that
didnʼt know about Thinkpads Restore Factory State option. It seems that he
formatted it, and installed some pirated copy of XP...
In Disk Manager, I can still see the hidden partition, but when booting the machine,
and pressing the blue button I cant access the utility.
It gives me a list of 3 options:
    -ESC
    -F1 for bios utility
    -F12 to select boot device
I also have a T42, but it’s a different model. I once tried my disks
on a T41 that I was trying to revive, and they didn’t work...
and was later told by IBM that each machine has unique disks.
I am assuming that the guy that did the "damage" formatted only
C:/ and then installed the pirated XP there, since I can still see the
hidden partition in the Disk Manager... So this makes me think
that the Blue Button menu resides on the C:/ part of the disk.
How could I copy just that, off of a different T42?
Anyone have any idea how to get around ordering the recovery CDs from IBM?
    Thanks!
    Sutherland

If your iPhone is jailbroken then it doesn't have a virus.
Your problem is most likely something else and the chances of your computer catch it are nonexsistant.

  • T42 - Problem in Restoring Factory Settings

When I pressed the F11 or Access IBM button to interrupt menu during startup to restore factory settings for T42, it always turn to
Press one of the following keys to continue :
    ESC to resume normal startup
F1 to enter the IBM BIOS setup utility
F12 to choose a temporary startup device
I don't have the recovery CD with me.  I tried to go to "Access IBM" to create recovery IBM, I can't find this in "Access IBM".
Could you advise how I can restore to factory settings?
    Thanks!

You probably have your recovery service partition removed, or someone removed it for you. I presume that your normal OS is not booting up correctly anymore???
There is two ways you can go about it if you don't have your normal OS running anymore, you can use a normal XP OS you got from somewhere, and then proceed to install your OS and then download all your relevant drivers from Lenovo site here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?doctypeind=9&template=/productselection/landin...
make sure you fill the requiste detail regarding model type
or call Lenovo/IBM service at your location and see whether they can send you the CD for a service charge, this will depend on whether you still got warranty, and whether your warranty is valid in Hong Kong for your machine, the Lenovo/IBM service may send you the cd if you don't meet either one of those conditions, but it is not a given.
I will suggest you just get your own XP os, you can still use the serial key on the bottom of the machine, but you may need to call Microsoft regarding issue of specific activation code.

    Jin Li

  • HP recovery freezes when I prep restoring factory image

A user had the recovery disks for my laptop, and tried to run them to restore his laptop to factory settings. But, after putting in the second disk, it frozen and was stuck at 0%. According to the prompts from software, Hard drive’s windows partition was formatted, and files were restored to the hard drive. But the progress was 0%, or prompt will be “Please wait”, and cancel buttons are grayed out.
This phenomenon is seldom, but some users that encounter such problem will be very angry. How to fix it? Is there other easier ways to restore factory image.
    How to solve such problem?
There are some reasons causing this problems.
laptop is not connected to power adaptor. During recovery, there is no power to supply computer and it shuts down automatically.
    Restoring discs haven’t burned correctly.
The hard drives, such as CD/ DVD burner or other things, are damaged.
In general, the reasons are complicated, the best way is to send computers to check what the problem is. Of course, if you just want to restore system image, you can use the easier way-HP recovery manager.
Use HP recovery manager to restore system factory image
Being a branded computer, HP computers are equipped with recovery partitions, and can usually be recovered to factory settings without the use of external recovery media (such as discs or USB drives). When computer goes wrong, You don’t need the discs to restore HP, but use HP recovery manager to restore system. After computer boots, please tap F11 immediately to bring up the option for factory image, and you can enter HP recovery manager, which can help you to restore system factory image.
Whether your computer happens problem or not, based on suggestions from netizens, onekey recovery is more simpler and easier than recovery disk. If you don’t make a system backup, you can download a free Windows 7 image of the same version that you use from here and burn to a DVD. Use your activation code on the computer stick to activate.
A easier way to restore system factory image
Besides the built-in recovery software, maybe the third-party recovery software is powerful as well. AOMEI OneKey Recovery can totally meet your demand that backup and restore system easily. After you buy computer, you can backup system with AOMEI OneKey Recovery, which can help you restore factory setting, once your computer breaks down in the future. If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

So I just did this on my iPhone 4 and it worked like a charm it unlocked it immediately. My phone was put into recovery mode and I know that not all data is deleted it just puts the phone into a sort of hibernation in order for the files to stay uncorrupted. I went to http://www.recovery-ipad.com/iphone-stuck-in-recovery-mode.html  downloaded the software it unlocked my phone in a matter of minutes. Calls, messages, photos, apps, and voicemail was all there as if it never happened  If you leave it unregistered you don't have to pay for it works for either windows or mac. Hope this helps!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I've been having this problem too, but here's the catch: originally it was only with my dad, and only sometimes.  Now it's dad and husband, every time!  Pix go through, via imessage, to everyone else, and they go through to dad/husband if I "send as text" after it fails.
And the other annoying thing- the blue bar will run all the way, and it will say "delivered".  So I close out of imessage. When I reopen it again, the "delivered" has changed to "not delivered" with the red exclamation point.  I just googled "imessage not sending photos" and founds TONS of people with the same problem, but no solutions.  (I have rebooted phone, reset network settings, with no luck.  I even had to backup/delete/restore my whole phone the other day for a different reason, and hoped that would fix it, but now it won't send to my dad OR my husband (who is on not just the same carrier, but the same family plan as me)

Same thing happened with my iPhone 4S - no one is any help.  Thanks Apple for such a crappy update!  I've called Apple, they say the SIM card needs replacing, I go to my service provider they tell me nothing wrong with the SIM card - provider tells me I now need a new phone.  Sheesh!  If someone has a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated.
