T42 want to upgrade video chip, so I need a new motherboard, what will be compatible?
Hello, lenovo community.
First time posting here. I have recently been having issues with my T42, type 2373-8tu, where the screen will flicker and/or go blank, then the display will either look staticy (odd for an LCD) or it will just flash a bunch of artifacts (go here and click broken monitor, and that's sort of how my screen looks from time to time). I posted a thread on reddit and a user there suggested it could be an issue with the video chip if it's ATI (which it is). I did some research and found that it is a common problem.
Now, onto the upgrade. I was looking at the specs page and saw that there is a possible 128MB video chip, but I don't know if it's compatible with the 14.1 inch model (which I have). Further, I don't know which motherboard I would need which would have the video chip I'm looking for. Can any of you with more experience than myself offer some insight on this before I buy anything?
Thanks for your time.

Brilliant! Thanks for that clarification. I opened it up last night to check some internal things and when I put it back together the screen backlight wasn't working. Could this be caused by a loose connection or is it more likely that I messed up the screen now too?
**Edit as of 1741 EST** Also I can't find the FRU for that board. Found the fru so nevermind that. However I don't want the security chip. It seems a lot of people have had issues with it and it seems more trouble than it's worth. Is there a way to get a board with out the security chip? This page doesn't show that's possible for the 128 MB board.
You might have blown the fuse on the motherboard, or it may just have died completely. Hard to tell without knowing more details.
As for the security chip, all of these "p" boards have one AFAIK, just turn it off in BIOS and call it a day, that's what I've been doing for a decade now anyway.
Good luck.
Cheers,
George

I've got a late 2009 mac mini with a 320gb hard drive and I want to upgrade it to a 1tb drive or bigger. What HDDs are compatible with my mini?
Because of the price I'm not interested in solid state drives, unless of course you want to send me $1,000.
I've already got external drives but I take my mini back and forth to work and don't want to carry those drives with me.
I'm not interested in buying a laptop. My mini works great so why waste $1,000 or more when I can buy a 1 to 3 TB hdd for under $300 and have exactly what I want. My late 2009 Mac Mini with a large hdd.
I went to Crucial's website and they can't tell me what drives fit my Mac Mini. That's where I got my ram (8GB). I'm ONLY interested in name brand quality HDDs.The limiting factor in your 2009 mini is the max 9.5mm drive thickness.
One of the largest capacity 2.5" drives that meets this criteria is the HGST (formerly Hitachi) at 1.5GB
Any reputable SATA HDD you can find that is not thicker then this 9.5mm will work. -
I have Creative suite 5 design premium. I just want to upgrade InDesign. How do i do it and what will it cost?
There is no upgrade path from a suite to an individual product.
You can buy InDesign CS6 for $700 or you can subscribe to InDesign CC for $20/month.
Your CS5 license also is good for one year intro rate of $29.99/month for the entire Creative Cloud package. -
i have ip 3gs and ios 4.1 i want to upgrade it to download latest version of apps ,which ios will be compatible and is there any danger to update ios before i erased all settings and content and i tried to update but it failed .it is working properly but i want to update from itunes.iwill do back up but is there any other thing i will face after updating like it will jut show apple loge and will not work. please answer quickly
An iPhone 3GS is too old to update to the very latest iOS and you will never be able to use apps that are compatible. The phone is just too old now in technology terms and the app makers have all moved on, so it's time to get a new phone.
Ideally, perhaps get an iPhone 4s or if you can afford it, an iPhone 5s or 5c which are the newest models. -
i have a mac mini mid 2011, this device have; 2,3GHz and 2 Gb Memmory.I want to upgrade the memory and i need the list of supported memory modules. i am from turkey.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US -

I am running CS5 on my MAC OS 10.6.8. I want to upgrade my OS to 10.8 or 10.9. Will my CS5 work and do I have to do anything to keep it working when I install the new OS?
It should upgrade fine.
Worst case is you'll need to run the Adobe Cleaner Tool (link below), then reinstall from your original discs:

I want to upgrade my Hard Drive to 1TB and more.
What is the maximun Hard Drive I can install for a MacBook Pro 2009
Yesterday, I tried a SEAGATE SSHD but my screen was always a showing a QUESTION MARK (?). It's not the cable because when I put back the old original version, everything works...Any sugestion of brabnding or procédure to upgrade my hard drive? The largest 2.5" dia SATA drives available are 2 TB in capacity.
Have you tried the Seagate SSHD connected externally to the MBP via USB? The drive itself may be faulty.
Ciao.

I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?
It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
OK then Apply.
This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility. -
I have just bought a new I pad 3 and want to give my I pad 2 to a friend. What will I have to do to clear my info on the old I pad and set it up on my new one? How are apple I D effected and passwords cleared?
Any advice welcome. To clear to old before passing it on, open the Settings app and tap on General (left hand menu). Scroll down and tap on settings, then tap on Erase All Content and Settings.
If you have been synching the iPad to iTunes on a computer, you should also have backed it up. If you havn't backed it, you will want to do so before clearing the settings and use the back up to set up your new iPad.

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion on my 2gb MacBook Air. Will it operate ok?
I have a MacBook Air purchased in May 2009 and have Lion on it. It seems to have become a bit slow and clunky! I now want to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Will the 2GB memory cope with it or not. Am I able to put additional memory on my Air?
The MBA's RAM isn't upgradable and while the SSD can be upgraded with third party drives, it voids the warranty. Your computer should run Lion acceptably fast but Mt Lion is a bit of a stretch for a 2GB computer, even with an SSD. Plus, if your computer has something dragging it down with Lion, it isn't likely to get any better with the upgrade to Mt Lion.
If you want to start tracking down the cause of your slowdown start looking at your hard drive free space (you should have 10-15% empty) and use Activity Monitor to check for rogue processes. -
I have owned an iPhone since the first, and it has always been synced to my old iMac. Now, I own newer machines (that can use iCloud), and I want to upgrade to an iPhone5 now. However, if I sync it to the old iMac, that machine in not iCloud capable.
How do I do this without loosing all the apps and contacts, etc?you can sync your iphone 5 with the old imac to get the information then usw the icloud. all your inforamtion with be saved to icloud and then you can sign in to icloud on the new imac.
