T420 4177 No USB Ports Responding

There are two USB related devices listed as Unknown devices in the Device Manager, under the Other Devices category.
1 - Location: Port_#0001.Hub_#0002
Hardware Ids:
USB\VID_8087&PID_0024&REV_0000
USB\VID_8087&PID_0024
2 - Location: Port_#0001.Hub_#0001
Hardware Ids:
USB\VID_8087&PID_0024&REV_0000
USB\VID_8087&PID_0024
Things I've done thus far:
All Windows Updates
All Lenovo Updates
BIOS Update, reset to defaults, ensured USB is not disabled
Manually deleted all USB devices, rebooted, Scanned for hardware changes
Manually deleted the 2 Unknown devices, Scanned for changes
Worked with Lenovo phone/remote support (they really had no idea where to start)
OS is Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.
Thank you in advance!

As you are experiencing USB ports are not responding. I would suggest you to please uninstall the USB drivers from the Device Manager and then restart the system.
After that please visit the mentioned below web link and install the chipset driver.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83ra28ww.exe
Now, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

  • Itunes7 not responding with a mobile connected with usb port

    Hello,
I try to listen music connecting a nokia n91 (hard disk 4gbyte) with the usb port and itunes7.
often itunes7 crashes (not responding status) and even I shut down the program, then it stops again, and again, and again..
Obviously with the previous version of itunes I had NO PROBLEMS!!
it seem that the version 7 has not been tested enough..
    regards,
    dave from italy

If it boots from the enlosure then I agree with Shootist in that it's more than likely that there's a problem with your SATA cable. Call or contact OWC and tell them the problem that you're having with their drive. They may just ship you a cable free.

  • T420 USB Ports do not work after installing XP

Hello my office has  been using Lenovo's for some time now but we recently purchased a T420 and installed Windows XP SP3 on it.  The issue we are having is that the uSB ports do not work.  I have tried every driver I can find but still no luck, can anyone help?

    hey chris0277,
could you check in Device Manager and see if there is any ? or ! symbol on the USB area.
If there is, i do recommend uninstalling the drivers from it and then visit http://support.lenovo.com and update your unit

  • T420s USB port stopped working / lost power - Please help

    Hi!
The left side USB port on my T420s has stopped working. Please see below picture for its location and description.
The port has worked fine for the last 3 years, and just stopped recognising any devices (in this case a Logitech unifying receiver, which has woked just fine on the very same port). I have tested it with my mobile phone cable, which worked previously, and found that it does not charge/give power either.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Nope, it started to happen a couple of months ago as far as I can remember. Interesting that your problem, Harris, began after a software update.
Nope, I haven't tried 'Repair Disk' from the install disk yet...Would this make a difference if the actual hard disk isn't the problem?
On another note, I have just upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard and all the above permission messages now no longer appear, and I get an almost-clean slate afterwards. The only message I get now is...
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Does anyone know what this means??
Oh, and my USB port still doesn't work!

  • USB port not responding

The second USB port on my iBook is not responding to my Flashdrive. However, the other USB port is. Any suggestions for fixing or figuring out what the problem is?
    Thanks.

Help. I too am having problems with my USB ports on a brand new 2.16ghz 15" Macbook Pro with 2GB Memory. More specifically, for my business, I use Vectorworks 12, a macintosh CAD program with a serial dongle that enables me to simply open and run the program. Well, the serial dongle is not lighting up as it should whwn plugging it into my MacBook Pro. My wife has a 15" PowerBook and G4 17" iMac, in which the dongle does NOT light up either! When I plug the dongle into my Dual 2 ghz "G5" Tower it lights up perfectly as it historically did! I plugged in a thumb drive that works in both my laptop and G5 tower. So why all of a sudden does the Vectorworks Serial Dongle become unrecognized by both USB ports in my MacBook Pro when Thumb drives, iPods, USB mouse etc. all work? The serial dongle should have at least lit up in my wifes 15" PowerBook or G4 iMac if the problem was isolated to my MacBook right? Something is messed up from the last firmware update maybe? So, what the heck happened! It was working a few days ago!? I need to use this serial dongle in my MacBook Pro but why is it, of all these computers mentioned, only being recognized on the G5? Please Help!

  • Keyboard, Trackpad, Mouse and USB ports - Not Responding

    Hello,
Here is my problem. Today when I started my MBP, there was no keyboard, no mouse(USB), no trackpad, no USB ports. I restarted it several times, but nothing changes. If not everything looks fine My desktop is availble, also the backlight on the keyboard works fine, but I can do nothing, my MBP is unusable. Only the power button works fine. I tried to connect an external USB keybord without success, the same with usb drives. I'm running 10.5.6 on MBP, Core Duo 1.83 GHz, 2 GB RAM.
I found many discussions here about the same problem( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1568210&tstart=0 ), I tried a restart without battery etc.... Nothing helps.
Please help, my warranty passed away

As this is literally a brand new imac, I would hope that the ports aren't giving up as I am sure they are very expensive to replace.
If it is that new you should be under applecare so you could take it your nearest apple store and let them deal with it (or call apple first if you want).
Besides the keyboard do you have anything else connected to the usb ports that may be drawing off too much usb power? In which case you may need a powered usb hub.

  • N585 - Win 8 Autoplay does not respond - one USB Port

I have a new (one month) N585 Ideapad, Canon Powershot camera plugged into 3 USB ports launches Windows Autoplay, the fourth (2.0 on the right, front that is NOT present on the G585) no Autoplay. I haven't installed any 3rd party SW (machine came with McAffee). Some investigation shows:
    - camera appears as portable device in Device Manager (although no usual 'bong' when plugged in or removed)
    - no Yellow/exclamation points for the USB hubs so that's ok
    - can manually launch import w/ win8 Start/Pictures/Devices but no Autoplay popup appears
    - Logitech mouse and flash drive DO work in the port
I've read everything from USB port power limit issues, to shell hardware detection, resetting Autoplay defaults, and editing the registry. Also, that Lenovos have a good number of USB port issues! Does anything jump out with the N/G series of IdeaPads???
I find it curious that this particular port is NOT on the virtually identical G585 machine profile....
    Thanks in advance!

It could be that the port where it does not function may not be producing sufficient power for the given HDD.  It has been shown that all USB ports do not output the same power.  You might test with a USB 'Y' connector or a powered hub.
    Ciao.

  • USB port not responding on iMac

First - On my iMac (running OS X 10.7.5), I periodically will lose the functionality of 1 of my 3 USB ports on the back of the Mac.
The only thing that seems to work is to restart the iMac.  But, this is only a work around.  Why would the USB just randomly fail?
Second - On a related note, I do have a USB expansion hub that ONLY works with an external hard drive.  Whenever I try to use it for my iPhone, iPod, Neat scanner, or whatever, I get the pop-up window stating that there is not enough power for device that was plugged in and that I must use the USB on the back (which may or may not work in the first place).  Any suggestions on a product that WOULD work as a successful USB expansion?  Thank you.

    1. The port overload protection is tripping off because it was overloaded.
    2. Get a self-powered USB Hub instead of using that bus-powered Hub.

  • T420 4177-CT0 Firewire!?!?!

Hello, just received a T420 4177-CT0 and I was wondering how in the heck I enable the Firewire port in Win7?! The port is physically there and enabled in the BIOS but is not showing up in device manager.  I've been looking around and can't find any info on a driver or such.
The reason i'm trying to enable it is that i'm going to purchase an audio interface for recording soon and was wondering if I should go with a USB 2.0 or Firewire card.
    Any ideas/suggestions?!!?
    thx for your time
    jcm

I don't see mine in device manager, but I have used it with my miniDV camera and it works fine.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • MacBook Pro closest to the screen USB port doesn't work

    Hey there!
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro 6,2 (15" 2,66 GHz i7 4GB RAM) which is in perfect conditions. I use it everyday to study and play the X-Plane simulator, basically, so it has never fallen nor taken any damage. Last week, all of the sudden, the USB port located closest to the screen stopped working. I've spent several hours trying to figure out what the problem is (tried the SMC and NVRAM reset more than once) but all I got was this log from USB Prober:
    Feb 12 21:46:26.196  [2]
    BRCM2070 Hub[0xffffff800bcc0c00]::DeviceRequest _DeviceRequestWithTimeout runAction() failed (0xe00002ed)
    Feb 12 21:46:26.197  [3]
    IOUSBDeviceUserClientV2[0xffffff80151f7200]::DeviceRequestIn (sync < 4k) err:0xe00002ed (device is not responding)
    Feb 12 21:46:26.197  [3]
    IOUSBDeviceUserClientV2[0xffffff80151f7200]::DeviceRequestIn < 4K to 0xffffff800bcc0c00 - returning err e00002ed, size: 0
I imagine that the problem is in the BRCM2070 Hub, as it's status in the "Port Status" section is "STATUS(change): CONNECT ENABLE SUSPEND POWER Full Speed" and "Port Power State: Suspended (Driver)", while my other USB port which is working okay is "STATUS(change): POWER Full Speed" and "Port Power State: No connection". If I connect anything to the problematic USB Port the status won't change, while, if connected to the okay one, it will show what's connected instead of saying "No Connection" (e.g. iPhone). The only thing that gives a sign of life when connected to the problematic one is my Samsung External 500GB HD, but it simply lights up, doesn't mount nor is recognised. After a minute it turns off while still connected. I don't know how to proceed as I don't have any Apple Stores near me.
Is there anyway to work this problem out or I should just wait until the end of this year to go to the US and take my machine to a Genius? This problem is really annoying me, as I frequently use one of the ports to charge my iPhone and the other one to connect my mouse. I'm thinking about buying an USB hub to bypass the problem, but it would kill my MBP's portability.

I solved my issue and I believe it was router related. I have a router through Verizon and their Fios service. My router was old so I caled for a replacement. when I received thereplacement I switched it the router to only accept 802.11n and this did the trick. Problem solved, stupid router.

  • USB port 1 will not recognize a keyboard or a mouse

    Hi,
I recently purchased a 2011 Mac Mini.  Upon purchasing it, I was using a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo with one of the mini receivers plugged into the first (far left) USB port on the back of the Mini.  All worked fine, until I went to upgrade to an Apple wired keyboard.
I powered down the Mini, unplugged the Logitech receiver and plugged the Apple keyboard into the same port, and then powered back up.  Upon reaching the Login screen, the keyboard was not responding to keystrokes at all, and no lights would come on for caps lock.  I tried the second port, which happened to work just fine, as do the other two.
Now, no matter what I do, the system still thinks I have an unidentified keyboard attached and will not allow ANY other devices plugged into the first USB port to communicate with my Mini.  Anything I plug into it only receives power through the port, no I/O can take place.
Is there something I'm overlooking here?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have already tried plugging the Logitech receover back in, and lo and behold the Logitech keyboard and mouse will work on that port.  I've tried taking the batteries out of the mouse and keyboard while the receiver is plugged in and the Mini is turned on.  I've tried plugging in and then removing the receiver with the Mini on, and then using that port for the Apple keyboard... no luck.
    Thanks in advance!
    Chris

Did you turn Speakable Items Off?
System Preferences/Speech/Speech Recognition Turn if Off.
If that isn't the issue. Shut down your Mac. Disconnect your mouse and keyboard. Wait about 15 seconds. Reconnect the mouse and keyboard, then boot your Mac.
If that doesn't work, locate these files: com.apple.speech.prefs.plist and
    com.apple.speech.recognition.prefs.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag those files from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.

  • USB Ports - Mass Storage Devices - Unknown Device

    Model: Satellite A135-S2276
    OS: Vista
I recently tried plugging in my media card reader that I've had for several years now and has worked many dozens of times.   Windows responded with an 'Unknown Device'  response.  I thought this was odd, so I changed and tried each USB port.  To no avail the device wasn't recognized.  I tried it in another computer and it worked fine.
I began to try two other mass storage devices that I know used to work, up until recently, on the laptop.  Both now are 'Unknown Devices'.   I now have a strong feeling that someting was wrong with windows vista.  So I search around and find methods to force the driver (inf) cache to reset which should reload any corrupted drivers.   Tried many methods, nothing worked, same results.  I saw that Vista Service Pack 2 just came out, I installed that hoping that it would fix.  Nope.
I gave up on it being a software issue after I did a fresh reinstall of the OS and with the base OS with no other software installed same results.
Is there a way to diagnose if the USB is malfunctioning from a hardware standpoint?  Is it possible the USB, even thought windows recognizes it, is dead on the motherobard?  If so, how do I get this fixed?  Motherboard replacement?
    Help!!

It sounds like it is working enough that it can recognize that soemthign is plugged into it.
You say you did a fresh install of Windows.  Did you use the recovery disk or a retail Windows copy.  If oyu didn't use the recovery disk then maybe you are missing a driver.  Best woudl be to use the recovery disk.  If a USB mouse doesn't work after that then the hardware has an issue.  Assuming the BIOS is OK.

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9258 will not boot up. Won't recognise USB ports -mouse keys etc

    HP Pavilion Elite M9258
70 percent of the time will not boot up.
Computet light is on. DVD drive will open and shut. Fans sound slightly quieter when this happens.
The monitor comes on but the light goes to  orange. When I press any of the monitor buttons, it flashes a message for a few seconds telling me it is in sleep mode and invites me to move the mouse or press a key to continue
The problem is that the USB ports are not recognised by the computer at this point. The infra red mouse light flashes briefly when the computer is switched on then goes and remains off. The keyboard is also unresponsive.
The sole fix that  I can find is to repeatedly turn the computer off and on again. After 70 -100 attempts ( over 4 to 6 hours) it suddenly boots up normally. The problem began a year ago and is increasing in duration and severity.

I am having the same problem as Avro500! My computer is the hp pavillon desktop model a6863w. The computer freezes then the keyboard and mouse will not respond and the only thing I can do is shut it down and even then I have to hold the pwer button about 10 sec before it shuts off! I have unplugged all external devices like you told avro500 to do and I did finally get it started but the computer still freezes and it is doing it more often as time goes by! I even paid HP support the $100 dollars (or around that amount) to fix it but it keep happening even after they worked on it but it was after the 7 days or what ever their policy is! They downloaded some security suites and ran their scans! They left Advanced system care, ccleaner and superantispyware on my computer and I was just wondering if they could be conflicting with my paid norton internet security? I have become very flustrated because first off I paid a lot of money for this computer and it's not even 2 years old yet and I also have paid HP a lot of money to fix it and all the guy from India could say to me was "I have been working on this computer and it hasn't froze up so the problem must be fixed!" Well it's not!! and I don't know enough to fix it myself so thats why I paid you a hundred dollars to do it for me! haha thanks for any help!

  • USB Port Access

Hi. I have developed a web-based neuropsychological testing
application that embeds flash applications made using Flash CS3.
One particular Flash application presents a series of visual
stimuli to which the subject must respond. I would like to
synchronize a separate system that is recording physiological data
with the presentation of the visual stimuli. One way would be to
somehow have the Flash application output a TTL pulse using a USB
to TTL serial cable. This would require that the Flash program is
able to access a local USB port. Is this possible? Any help or
advice would be greatly appreciated! I apologize if this is not the
most appropriate place to pose such a question. Thanks.

Thanks for that. Have now purchased a OTG cable & everything is working fine. You would think that this is something that should be covered in the operating instructions as it is so basic that you will want to upload & download things. I now see that some other manufacturers supply one of these cables in the box from new. That would be good for HP to do as well! Many thanks again.
