T420 Headphone Jack won't work in Windows 7

Hi all,
I've recently got a T420 4180A32 (Conexant CX20672) and the headphone jack doesn't work under Windows 7. It works when I boot (natively) into Ubuntu, but obviously when I run a Virtual Machine into Ubuntu through Windows, it doesn't work either.
I have:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver version that came installed.
- Installed,  Uninstalled and reinstalled a newer driver version.
- Uninstalled the old driver and installed the new one.
- Reverted to using the generic High Definition Audio driver. The speakers work fine but again, headphone jack doesn't.
- Established that it obviously isn't a hardware problem.
- Uninstalled then reinstalled DirectX
- Tried various headphones on the off chance that they were the problem. They weren't.
I haven't:
- Done a full reinstall of windows 7 (although I might)
- Tried Windows 8, although again, I might as I have an unused licence for it and I really want my headphones to work.
That's about all the info I can give. Besides this problem, the laptop runs great!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have now noticed that when using ubuntu the headphones work but that won't mute the speakers, so I am starting to think it could actually be the jack, as the headphones, as a device, arent dectected by ubuntu either, they just work because they are plugged in, I guess it's the way each OS works.
Check if that happens in your computer as well. Also, where did you check the prices of compatible sound cards? Which should I buy? I may go to a Lenovo store to get it fixed.

  • Headphone jack won't work right

I have a 60GB video iPod and the headphone jack won't work right. I only get audio in the left ear unless I push the earphone plug to the side. I know this is common among listening devices and wondered if there is any easy way to correct this or if I should just take it to Apple to have them fix it. It's definitely not under warranty and wondered how much it would be to fix it...

If you are at all handy you can replace the headphone and hold switch. It is not terribly difficult. Almost all sites that sell the parts have online videos that show you how to do it. I have replaced them as well as batteries and screens. I encourage anyone that has some mech skill and there Ipod is off Warranty to try it. If you have a great fear or are all thumbs then of course send it somewhere. One advantage of doing your own repairs is that while you have it open you might as well replace the battery with a longer life batt and also the screen with a brighter one for about the same cost as 3rd party doing the work on just the jack and hold switch. A lot of the sites send the case tools and jewelers screwdriver with the part. or at any hardware store, or where every tools are sold you can get a jewelers screwdriver. Good luck.

  • Buttons (silent, volume, on/off) and headphone jack no longer working!

All of a sudden my iPhone stopped working - that is, none of the buttons work except the round one below the screen. None around the sides work any more and the headphones jack doesn't work either. I have the latest os/firmware (3.1). This happened totally out of the blue. I know of nothing special that could have caused it. Just happened one day when I tried to use headphones and noticed the volume kept sounding through my speakers rather than the phones. And then I noticed the silent didn't work, the volume up/down button on the side didn't work, etc.
I can not turn my phone off so I tried to let the battery die out and then recharge it which resets it. But that didn't help either. Buttons still aren't working.
This means I can't turn on silent, adjust volume, listen using my headphones or use hands-free.
    Any ideas why?
I purchased my phone back in Aug '08 so it's just out of warrenty, of course!

Problem is since I bought mine online, I have to send it in to the online store to have it checked. And they couldn't even promise they could, or would do anything.
I live in Norway and there is no Apple store. They have "certified dealers" but they won't look at my phone since I didn't buy from them.
Bottom line is I will be without my phone for at LEAST a week for them to look at it, and then there is a good change they won't fix it for free or even at all.
That's why I was hoping for some advice from somebody that may know about this...

  • T420 headphone jack no sound

    New problem here.
    1. recently updated all drivers and such through lenovo updates and drivers after replacing laptop screen.
now headphone jack no longer works. could be just coincidence. Sound continues to port through speakers, and I can't find any diagnostic to help me see if the audio card "sees" the headphones.
yes, the headphones have been tested elsewhere.
    your suggestions appreciated.

It depends since the jack is usually 4 pin (for sound and mic). Its possible that the connections don't line up correctly. Try some other head phone or 3.5mm stereo device. If you've used it before and it worked with it maybe something is in there or its damaged. Its not possible to trouble should those possibilities.

  • Headphone Jack No Longer Works

Does anyone know of headphones that may plug into the bottom outlet of the iPod, where it connects usually to stereo equipment. My iPod still works with this connection, to charge it, to listen on my computer, on my stereo but the headphone jack no longer works so I can't use it in my car or at other times.

Ok I just talked to headroom and with this adapter you can go directly to a set of headphones or to one of their amps. Additionally the pin connector provides improved sound quality over the cheap headphone jack that comes stock on the ipod.

  • Headphone Jack No Longer Working

About 2 weeks ago, my iPhone's headphone jack completely stopped working. I started to notice it a month ago (after installing the latest iOS builds, but I dont necessarily have any reason to believe that it's a software issue) when it wouldn't play music in the headphones when I'd plug them in but after trying a few more times it would finally work again. Obviously now it doesn't work at all.
I've read the few threads around the Internet on this issue and most people just had lint in the jack that had to be cleaned out. Mine did not but I tried cleaning it anyway with a q-tip and also light oiled it with electronic lube (with a q-tip, being mindful of the sensor at the base of the jack).
Has anyone else been able to fix this type of problem?

SOLUTION: Headphones no longer work on iPad
I had the same problem: suddenly my headphones didn't workon my iPad. All the headphones (3 pairs) worked on my iPhone, so I knew the problem wasn’t with the headphones. The sound worked fine from the iPad speakers, so when I unplugged the headphones, the sound returned. I called AppleCare Support and tried everything they suggested, including restoring it to the factory settings. Nothing worked, and they authorized a replacement iPad.
The new iPad arrived, but it had the same problem, so I knew something had changed in the iPad's programming. I went online and found that many others were having the same problem, but no one offered a solution. However, someone mentioned that the problem first occurred after installing the latestOS (4.3.3), which is when my iPad’s problem occurred. Next, someone else wanted to know if there was a mute switch that needed to be turned off. This started me thinking...
To make a long story as short as possible, I played around with the controls on my old iPad and discovered the following: Apparently, the latest OS has added a safety feature to protect our eardrums (that’s nice, but it would be even nicer to have been notified of this change .. even the support technicians were unaware of it). Previously, when you listened to the audio through the iPad’s speakers, the sound was so low that you had to turn the volume up as high as possible to hear it. Then when you plugged in the headphones, the sound blasted your eardrums as you frantically lowered thevolume.
    (PROBLEM:)
Now, however, WHEN YOU PLUG IN THE HEADPHONES, THE IPAD AUTOMATICALLY MUTES THE SOUND. When you unplug the headphones, the sound is automatically restored through the speakers, giving you the false impression that there is something wrong with the headphones or the headphone jack.
    (SOLUTION:)
So after plugging in the headphones, you have to use the volume button to bring the sound back up to the desired level. When you press the volume button, it will say “headphones” on the display to let you know that you are adjusting the sound for the headphones only. The speaker volume retains its previous setting (maximum volume).
So, the solution is quite simple… just turn up the volume after you attach the headphones.
    Cheers!

It's not clear whether your printer is included in the Apple list - there is an Officejet 6100 and a couple of other types. Go to the page linked to above and use the browser search for 6100.
I'm afraid HP are notorious for not supporting older printers - I had the same problem. Probably they hope you will buy another printer (I did, but it was a Canon). I did look on HP's site and couldn't see a driver - you could give it a try (make sure you have the exactly correct printer name):
    http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=HP6100&search_search type=s-002
Alternatively ou could try Gutenprint (open source software):
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
I found it would indeed drive the printer, but the colour dithering wasn't very satisfactory and the duplex printing bolt-on wouldn't work. However as Gutenprint is free it's worth trying to see if it's any good for you.

    Hi Mr.Acevedo329!
I have an article here for you that can help you troubleshoot the issues you are experiencing. That article can be found right here:
iPod troubleshooting basics and service FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1382
Specifically, you will want to take note of this section:
    The headphones don't work
If your iPod's headphones don't work or have static or garbled audio, try connecting them to any other 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, like the one on your computer. If the issue with the headphones persists, replace them. For an iPod under warranty, you can order a replacement online. Otherwise, check out the cool headphones at the Apple Online Store. If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

do i have to send my iPod in if the headphone jack isn't working?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7 anymore

    Hey there,
I've got an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I just updated a bunch of the Apple stuff on Windows -- iTunes, Quicktime, "boot camp" (I assume that meant drivers and such), and whatnot. Now my Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7. It was fine before, so I assume the update screwed something up. Help? I know nothing of retrieving old drivers and stuff like that.
Note: I am running Snow Leopard, NOT Lion.
