T420 power use

Hi,
I bought a T420 partly because it seemed to have great power options. I intend to use the laptop on a sailing boat. At times, I need to run power hungry CAD software, and the machine does that just fine. When I'm at sea, I need the laptop to run on minimal power (just displaying navigation software, and running the internal GPS, keeping a log)
Today I took the laptop tp the boat and connected it to the 12v boat battery. I was disappointed to see that it was using around 1.5 amps. This was after using the power manager tool to minimise power use, lowering display brightness, quality, turning off wifi etc. The laptop battery was already fully charged beofre this test, so the power wasn't being absorbed by that.
I thought the T420 could run using just 7-8 watts, so I was expecting to see my ammeter show just over 0.5 amps, rather than 1.5.
Puzzled, and disappointed.
John

First of all try to re-attach the battery.
If it does not help, follow ThorsHammer's  tip:
remove Powermanager
remove power management driver
run ccleaner
install power management driver
install powermanager

  • Measuring power using NI-USRP and Spectral measurements tool kit

    Hello every one
I'm just inquiring how to calculate the power in a channel using NI USRP and SMT tool kit because I have failed calculating it using direct method so I purchased SMT so could any one help me by providing me with an example that describes how to calculate the power using spectral measurements tool kit , our he could tell me the steps that I could follow .
    Thanks a lot

    Hi MHantera,
I don't think I'm fully understanding your most recent message. The FFT Spectrum (Mag-Phase) VI in the USRP example as well as the FFT Power Spectrum and PSD VI both output a full spectrum that already includes the f0 and df so you don't need to set those. If you're using the later you should select Power Spectrum (the default for "export mode") for the In Band measurement. Using that VI are you seeing a size limitation? What settings and sample size are you trying to use? Is it returning an error about being unable to perform the FFT or are you just not seeing the results you should? Any more information you can provide about this would be helpful.
    Best Regards,

  • Portable Power using a Car Cigerette Lighter  with MacBook Pro

I would like to know if their is a product for the MacBook Pro Computer where you can take your computer on trips and charge the batteries while you drive by using the cigerette lighter and you can also use the computer. I know their is a product for the Power Book 4 called a Juicer. Any ideas if they have one for the MacBook Pro?

Get a 12 volt to 120 volt inverter. I have one that is good for 150 watts which is more than enough for the Apple 85 watt power adapter.

  • Is the iMac really capable of high power use?

My 3 month old iMac is in the shop because of random shutdowns - mostly when I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 (but also when I am just reading email or browsing the internet). The "Apple Tech" informs me that perhaps the software I am using is too much for the iMac (set up with 2GB of memory, 20" model). Is it just me or did I misunderstand the ads and sales folks when I read and was told that this iMac was for me and my 10 megapixel digital camera coupled it photoshop (and the list goes on)?
Yet, Apple support told me to take it in so that it could have its power supply or logic board replace because one of those is possibly the problem.
Anyone else have an iMac behaving like a lemon when you put the pedal to the metal?
I don't have this problem with a 1.5 year old Mac Book running the same exact program.

At work I have 2 computer labs of 2.16GHz iMacs/2GB RAM running CS3 apps daily without any problems. It sounds more like manufacture defect to me.

  • Anyone know how to monitor power used on USB Port?

I have an external quickertek usb wireless device that keeps shutting down my Macbook pro. It runs fine for a few days and then locks the entire system up. Quicktek made me a special device with an external power adapter thinking the problem was the USB port being asked for more power than it could deliver but the system is still crashing. I'd like to monitor my power output on that single USB port to see if the new device is really working properly but not sure how to measure power consumption on a usb.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and if so how?
    Thanks,
    glenn

thanks guys, I'm not sure how accurate the actual current power being used is as it seems to always say 500ma but I'll play around with it and see if I can get it to work for me.
    glenn
Remember that 500 ma is the limit, so if a device attempts to draw more, it most likely will be current-limited at .5A.
    At least it's a start.

  • Sattelite Pro U300: Battery LED does not indicate low power using Linux

    Hi,
I have Sattelite Pro U300 and I'm using Linux.
I've notice one problem on my PC, it does not indicate that battery power is low (not blinking) and just turns off.
Is it this indicator driven by software or it is some hardware problem on my laptop?
Another small issue that monitor does not remember brightness for battery mode.
    Thanks

Please dont be mad at me but firstly I would not speak about problems if you use the Linux on the Toshiba notebook. Fact is that Linux is not supported and therefore some notebooks features could not function correctly.
    Regarding the battery led;
The LEDs are controlled by BIOS. As you know the notebook was equipped with Vista and therefore the BIOS support Vista.
As I said above, if you will use another OS like XP or possibly Linux then some features could not function correctly.

  • Computer processing power used by Apple mobile device

In July I downloaded a new itunes version. Afterwards, whenever I srated my computer, the processing power was being used up by "Apple mobile device" on my task manager. I had to end the process inorder to use my computer. I reinstalled itunes, which cured the problem. However I had a real player update two days ago which has caused the same problem to reoccur. Any solutions/suggestions please?

  • USB Flash Drive & power using Hub

Interesting fact -- my iMac can accept my USB Flash Drive on the convenient keyboard hub without any problem. However, when I reboot using Boot Camp into Windows XP Pro -- It cannot! It says insufficient power & I must use one of the USB ports on the (less convenient) rear of the iMac. This isn’t a major issue for me since I mostly am using OS X & rarely use Windows & even less often need to use a USB Flash drive from Windows. However, I do need to unplug something else (the Apple Modem) on those rare occasions when I wish to plug in a USB Flash Drive  while in Windows. BTW, I use SanDIsk Micro Cruzer with the U3 software --which doesn’t work with OS X -- deleted.
I would think the power requirements would be exactly the same -- being as the hardware (computer & flash drive) is identical whether I’m running OS X or XP Pro.
    Strange.

On previous versions of Network Magic, when adding a laptop to my wireless network, an option would appear for using a USB flash drive to transfer settings and/or password to the new machine.
After a few "upgrades" to NM, the option ONLY appears after I turn my security off.  If I leave my WEP security ON, the only option that appears is to "copy" the 32-digit password & enter it on the laptop.  However, I keep getting errors.
Is there a procedure to use a USB flash drive to connect a "new" laptop to my secured wireless network?
    Thank you.
    Hi thomas,
If this is your own New Laptop to your Network, and even after you supplied the password, the problem is the Network Lock is still on. You need to disable the Network Lock. Enter the password, installed Network Magic if the Laptop is your own. You need to stop tracking your Laptop as an intruder on your other copies of Network Magic.
Then you need to reenable the Network Lock from your Wired Computer. Use your other computer to activated the copy of Network Magic installed on the laptop.

  • How do I control serial power using LabView?

I need to use LabView to alter the voltage coming from the serial port. Is it as easy as writing to the serial port? I know that if you write to the serial port that it'll produce a binary number, does this binary number correspond to a voltage.

If you want to create a scalable voltage value coming from the serial port you must have a Dig -> Analog conversion circuit.
If your goal is to vary a voltage from 1 - 10 vdc, then you must create:
    1) a an external circuit that will convert/buffer digital serial interfaced binary values to analog values (ni makes these things)
    2) labview code that transfers info to serial port. (driver/etc)
    hope that helps!
    did that answer your question?

  • Any ideas about how to restore old appearance on my iPhone?  I just updated to IOS7 and really dislike the new appearance. I have to log on to see percentage of power used since I can't see it on my opening screen. I also want the gray folders back.

I just updated to ios7 and do not like the redesign. I want the old design back. Has anyone found out how to restore the old appearance. I do not understand why the change. • How much power is used by a sleeping Mac?

My power company sent me an email about "vampire power" used by a sleeping computer, and the estimate that the total is roughly $79.98 per year per computer, if the computer sleeps vs. being manually shut down.  Is this true of an IMAC?

    dortons wrote:
    Does that estimate sound accurate?
That number seems wildy high. I just measured the wattage used for various statres on a 20" iMac (7,1)
         Startup = 70 Watts
         Running = 90 - 105 watts, depending on activity
         Sleep = 1 Watt
At a usage of 1 watt, it would take 1000 hours for 1kWh (standard measurement of electricty usage). I'm not sure what the rates are in your area, but for my area (about 13 cents/kWh) it would use about $1.17 per year, assuming it was sleeping for that time.

  • 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector - Using power over ethernet

Can I use power over ethernet to supply the Injector with power?

    Hi Mikael,
    Sorry, this will not work. Have a look at these specs;
    1300 Series Power
    Power
The access point/bridge receives inline power from the Cisco Aironet Power Injector (hereafter called the power injector). Dual-coax cables are used to provide Ethernet data and power from the power injector to the access point/bridge. The power injector is an external unit designed for operation in a sheltered environment, such as inside a building or vehicle. The power injector also functions as an Ethernet repeater by connecting to a Category 5 LAN backbone and using the dual-coax cable interface to the access point/bridge.
The power injector is available in two models:
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2 standard version (included with the access point/bridge)
    48-VDC input power
Uses the 48-VDC power module (included with the access point/bridge)
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2T optional transportation version
    12- to 40-VDC input power
Note The power injector and the power module must not be placed in an outdoor unprotected environment. The power module must not be placed in a building's environmental air space, such as above a suspended ceiling.

The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge Power Injector, converts the standard 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface that is suitable for weather protected areas to a dual F-Type connector interface for coax cables that are more suitable for harsh outdoor environments. The Power Injector also provides power to the outdoor unit over the same cables with a power discover feature and surge protection. To support longer cable runs from your wireless network switch or router, the Power Injector LR is designed to accommodate up to a 100 meter coaxial cable run plus 100 meters of indoor cat5 cable?enabling total cable runs up to 200 meters. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge ships with the Power Injector LR2 and an AC power supply.

  • Power Manager watts used

Is there an api or other way to get the "power used" value displayed in power manager? This is only displayed in "Basic" mode and I like "Advanced" mode. Also I would like to log the power used value, but I need to know how I can access this value.... Perfmon doesn't seem to have it, and none of the other monitoring utilities seem to be capable of displaying it.

There are several counters in perfmon under the "power meter" group, you should use "power" counter.
On my X220, with stock Win7Pro x64 and latest power manager (although i doubt that has to do anything with power manager) i'm getting the following results:
    http://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/4409/2391467.5/0_6739f_f8808d14_orig
PS: It seems to work only when you're working from battery, not from AC power.
