T420i and HDMI TO VGA on LED TV

Hi, everyone, I have a Laptop Lenovo T420i, recently I bought a LED TV 32'' which had two HDMI ports, sadly, this laptop doesn't have the HDMI port (it suck) so I bought a cable with which is HDMI adapter to VGA (for the laptop)
once I plug thr cable on the tv, no problema, Then I plug the VGA on the laptop, the TV recognize that it's something plugged but with no signal, but, I don'y know why the laptop won't recognize the TV, even when I go to Split screen in screen properties, I've tried everything on the laptop, but got nothing
I've downloaded all the drivers from this website, for video and display, but nothing
if you know why this happen pls let me know
thanks

Hi shanxito
However, your T420i should have a DisplayPort. You can get DisplayPort to HDMI converter to carry both audio and video signal. This should make it work. You should be able to get this from computer accessories shop or eBay.

To be honest... it just works here for me. I use KMS and don't have a xorg.conf.

  • Keynotes + iPad2  (AirPlay) + AppleTV  + Digitech HDMI to VGA Converter.

    Hi,
I am going to buy a iPad2, Apple TV and DigiTech HDMI to VGA/Component and LR Analogue Audio Converter, which I want to connect to my data projector in my classroom. AirPlay on the iPad 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10nfcwTHbIA
I want to use Keynotes, and mirror iPad Apps onto the projector.
I will provide various students with iPad2 devices and let them interact with the lesson as well.
Is this possible with Keynotes, and is there another option to regarding the connection to the projector?
At this stage I need to buy a Apple HDMI Adapter ($39), Apple TV ($129), and HDMI to VGA converter ($149). So $319 to get a wireless connection to my projector.
Does anyone have other options ?
    Kind Regards
    Sean Udal

I believe the only devices you need to achieve a wireless iPad 2 mirroring experience on a display is an Apple TV 2.  When iOS 5 comes out in a few weeks the iPad 2 will have full bore wireless mirroring using the Apple TV 2.  The Apple TV 2 outputs an HDMI signal so if your display has HDMI inputs you're home free.  However, you like me (I am also a teacher), have the nasty problem that our classroom projectors only accept a VGA input (probably composite too).  That Apple TV 2 is sending an encrypted HDMC signal to your projector via it's HDMI cable.  So, you need a HDMI to VGA converter that can overcome this encryption.  I just bought a HD Fury 3 HDMI to VGA converter that has a chip in it to deal with the HDCP encryption.  Sadly, I just hooked this system up in my classroom and it doesn't work.  I posted this information in the other thread you started asking about this same issue.  One of our school's tech personal is going to see if he can resolve this but I am not optimistic.  There are many posts in other forums that claim great success with the Fury 3.  If anyone has some insight regarding this I'd love to hear it.  My projector is a new Epson short throw projector.  It cost somewhere in the range of $1600 - $2000.  Sorry, can't remember the specific model off hand.  Anyway, even though it has no HDMI inputs, it is not a cheap projector.

I would suggest looking into a Thunderbolt to HDMI connector. In this case, you may be able to use the TV as an external monitor. For this option, please confirm through additional research. I have not tested it personally.
You can also use an Apple TV, which connects with HDMI. In this case, you can use Airplay Mirroring. Not all Macs support Airplay Mirroring, so you need to check first. I have a Mid-2011 27" iMac, and it supports Airplay Mirroring. I don't use it often because my TV is in another room, but I just tried it and it worked. It had to change the screen resolution to work well, so I don't know if I would want to use it as my day to day monitor. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404

  • HP Slate 500 and HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter (NP031AA)

The specifications page for the HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter (NP031AA) (Link) doesn't list the HP Slate 500 as a compatible device in the campatible products list (Link).
Do these two products work together?
What VGA resolutions can I project using this cominbation of products?  Am I limited to 1024x600? or 1024x768? or does it support displaying higher resolutions?
I'm thinking about making a purchase but I don't want to get the adapater if it isn't going to work.
    Thanks,

Yes an HDMI to VGA adapter will work fine. Keep in mind it will not carry audio but neither did your old vga connection so I am assuming it is not a problem.
You would find an HDMI to VGA at any Best Buy or you can order on one amazon.com such as here:
    http://www.amazon.com/BestDealUSA-Adapter-Converter-Laptop-NoteBook/dp/B007PLL4CK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8...
Connect the projector and use the Windows key at the lower left of the keyboard and the p key at the same time and it brings up a "projector" console that lets you easily switch from laptop to projector to laptop + projector.

If you have two displays attached, then the function to change from mirrored to extended Desktop will appear in System Prefs/Displays.

I would suggest you visit an Apple dealer, preferably an Apple Store if there's one in your city, and ask for assistance in determining what you need. The questions and issues you bring up are rather complex to address in a technical support forum and would be better addressed in person where you and the salesperson can ask questions back and forth to arrive at the optimal setup.

I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

  • Find monitor instance name , device name , resolution and frequency of multiple monitors (VGA and HDMI)

    hi,
In my system multiple monitors are connected (VGA and  HDMI). In need to know the

i used wm class 'WmiMonitorConnectionParams'  to determine Video output technology connection type and InstanceName.

    Win32_DisplayConfiguration
But unable to determine monitor having  its corresponding values? please help me to find a solution .
is there any other method to get multi monitor details?
    thank  you

    Hi sumith,
I read some documents about WmiMonitorConnectionParams class, it should be able to get the video putput technology by the D3DKMDT_VIDEO_OUTPUT_TECHNOLOGY enumeration.
    D3DKMDT_VIDEO_OUTPUT_TECHNOLOGY enumeration
So what happens when you are using WmiMonitorConnectionParams class? What prevent you? Anyway, please see a example of using WmiMonitorConnectionParams class, maybe you could get some hints on it.

  • Reinstall win 7, VGA and HDMI driver

    Hi everyone,
    2 problems
1.I treid to reformat my hp probook 4320s and reinstall windows back to factory settings. I made a recovery disk when i first got it (at least im sure i did) and when i try to boot it says windows is loading files, i see the white bar accross the bottom moving along until 2/3rd of the way then it stops. Ive left it for 8 hours this way and it remains frozen. did i not create the disk properly?
    2. So instead i had a spare win 7 and reinstalled using that, i suspect the VGA and HDMI drivers are missing or something because now when i connect an external monitor via these 2 ports nothing comes up whereas it did before i reinstalled.
Does anyone know which specific drivers i need? I looked on the support page but iv eno idea which one i need.

    Hi:
Since your model can have either the Intel or AMD/Intel switchable graphics, there is no way of telling without some additional information.
Go to the device manager and click to expand the Display Adapters category.
When the graphics drivers are not installed, you will see a device labeled Standard VGA Adapter.
If you see one listing of a Standard VGA adapter, then install the Intel HD graphics driver.
If you see two listings of a Standard VGA adapter, then install the AMD graphics driver.
The AMD graphics driver will install the drivers for both the AMD and Intel switchable graphics processors.
As far as the recovery disk not working, it is anyone's guess as to why.
You can order a set of recovery disks by contacting HP for the country you live in at the link below.

  • HDMI to VGA output possible (or will I get HDCP errors)?

    Hello.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use an HDMI-to-VGA cable with the ATV (gen2)? I purchased an ATV for my parents and they can't use it as every time they go to play a movie rental or stream Netflix, they get an HDCP error saying "the connection doesn't support HDCP".
I have confirmed their TVs HDMI (v1.3) ports all supports HDCP and I have also used various HDMI cables, but nothing I do works — it always results in an HDCP error.
They have a VGA port available on their TV and I'm wondering if it would be possible to use an HDMI-to-VGA cable to play content? Or would this also result in an HDCP error?
My only other option seems to be to return the ATV?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

On my parents TV (32" LG LCD), I have tried various cables, etc. but can never get the ATV to play protected content. The first thing I did was take it home and plug it in, using the exact same cables, to my TV (42" LG LCD). Worked fine. I then tried with the 3 other HDMI cables I'd been trying at my parents house. All worked fine.
This initially led me to believe it was an issue with their TV. So, I attached a number of other HDMI devices (that require HDCP) to their TV, and all worked fine, no errors. I then dealt with LG on this and they determined that everything was fine with the TV, especially since other HDMI-based devices requiring HDCP had no issues.
So, at this point, the only thing left is that the ATV just doesn't like their particular TV. These boards are flooded with this issue on various models/brands of TV. I don't think there's any real solution other than returning the ATV. It's a bummer. I absolutely love my ATV and I know they would have too. Once again, shoddy copyright protection wins again.
    Thanks,
    k.

  • Mac mini (Mid 2010) which is better HDMI  or VGA ?

I'm getting a Mac mini (Mid 2010) and a Samsung - 23" LED Monitor that has both HDMI and VGA inputs. What would be the best way to connect them ? I've only had iMacs, iBooks and a MBPRO.

If the monitor has speakers HDMI would be the best choice, as you will get audio to the speakers through HDMI.  VGA is video only.  A VGA connector is usually provided on HD monitors so that they can be used with computers that have a standard VGA connector and no HDMI.

  • DVI to HDMI or VGA to connect to HDTV

Hi I am researching buying a 40-42" LCD or plasma TV and I would like to be able to connect my IMac to the tv. I will mostly be using the TV to watch sports and to watch videos from my IMac.
    1. Will 1080p videos played from the IMac produce good 1080p picture on the tv? I have ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB memory.
    2. Or would I be better off just going with a 720p tv and playing 720p videos from the IMac?
    3. Go with a DVI to HDMI or DVI to VGA cable? I understand I'll need to get a Mini DVI to DVI adapter also.
    Thank you!

1 and 2. It should work with either a 720p or 1080p HDTV.
    3. Mini DVI to (regular) DVI to HDMI. That will keep the signal digital all the way. VGA is analog. There are cables that have DVI on one end and HDMI on the other end. There are several types of DVI connectors, so be sure to get the right one.
NOTE: HDMI carries audio but DVI does not, so you will still have to run audio from the iMac headphones jack to the HDTV audio input separately.

  • Mac mini hdmi to VGA

On my Mac mini, I have been using thunderbolt to VGA for a monitor & it works fine. I would like to add a second monitor. I bought a hdmi to VGA but when plugged in, there is no picture on the second display and the first display blinks off & on. Am I wrong in thinking this should work? How else would I get the second display?

    From:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4214
Can the HDMI port drive analog displays (VGA displays for example) using adapters?
No.  The HDMI port will drive digital connections—such as DVI—using the adapter that came with the Mac mini, but cannot be used for analog displays such as VGA. You can purchase a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter separately to drive analog displays.
If yo really need ton use two VGA monitors yo willneed a UBS video adopter
