  • Portege m700 Tablet Extended Desktop Problem

I've looked all over and can't find a good answer to this, so I figured I'd better check with the source!  I have a Toshiba Portege m700 tablet PC, which has an LCD monitor connected using the digital cable.
I have the external monitor set as my primary, with the notebook monitor set as the secondary, providing extra desktop real estate to the right of the first monitor.
The problem is that when I use the touchscreen, the mouse controls are only active on the primary monitor (the external one).  What I'd like to do is have the external monitor be primary, the notebook monitor be secondary, and be able to drag items to the notebook and use ink, or onenote, or other touchscreen apps on there.  I want the touchscreen to control ONLY the secondary (notebook) monitor.  Is this possible?
It seems like there should be some way to just instruct the computer to map the touchscreen to the secondary monitor instead of always just mapping to the primary.
However, if there is not, what I did experiment with is having the notebook as primary and the external as secondary, and then using some sort of multimonitor software to manage the taskbar and such to create the illusion of the external monitor being primary.  The problem here is that while the notebook is 1280 x 800 resolution, the external monitor is capable of 1280 x 1024, but when set as secondary will go no higher than 1280 x 800.  Is there a way to force the external monitor to run in 1280 x 1024 if I'm using it as the secondary?
Is this something for which I need an updated graphics driver?  I tried to get a newer version of the Intel GMA, but it actually removed all extended desktop options for me, so I rolled it back.  The version it's running is 6.14.10.4837.
Thank you in advance for anyone pointing me to any driver updates, configuration directions, or external software that can effectively manage all these options of extended desktop, screen resolution, and what monitor is assigned to touchscreen control!

I've just tested the "Extended Desktop for Tablet PC" powertoy, and that doesn't solve this problem.  With the tablet set as the secondary monitor, when I move the window onto that screen, it just recurses the image over itself, which isn't really useful.
No one has any other ideas about this?

  • IMac 27" extended desktop problems

    Hi!
I own a 2011 iMac 27" and I am having issues using a Samsung SyncMaster T240M display as extended desktop.
It works fine when I am just using the computer for a while, but if the displays go to sleep mode, when I return to the computer the iMac display restores right away but then the Samsung display starts to go on and off repeatedly until it finally stays on, but then all my applications are on the iMac display.
It is pretty much like what would happen if I had unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in.
Is there a way to fix this or do I just have to live with that? Has anyone experienced the same problem with other displays? Maybe this Samsung display is not syncing well with the iMac?
Anyway, any help will be very much appreciated.
    See you,
    JP

If the machine is covered by warranty or even better by AppleCare then contact AppleCare. They will be able to do in-home service if you are within 50 miles of an AASP. You will have to request this service but they will do it.

  • Fullscreen Flashplayer on an Extended Desktop Problem

I have just started to use Lovefilm's watch online service. This involves using Flash Player to stream content directly to my PC without storage. I want to then watch that content on my TV which I have set up as an extended desktop. I also would like to use my PC for browsing at the same time.
My question is how do I get flash player to stay fullscreen on the secondary desktop and still use the primary. Every time I click on the primary screen the secondary drops out of fullscreen and reverts to standard. What can I do?
I am using XP, firefox and the TV is connected through S-video.

  • All menus have display problem (flash) when using FF on extended desktop monitor

I use two monitors at work. Each time I display FF on the "secondary" monitor (extended Desktop), all menus (normal menu, bookmarks, right click), flashes going from visible to hidden and so on).

I have the same problem. Windows 7 (64 Bit), extended desktop, 2 monitor system. I have AMD HD 4800 graphics card with all AMD updates current as of 12/8/2012.
The drop down menus display briefly (flicker) and then are not visible. If I am careful and know the dropdown line I want, I can blindly select it. This happens only on the second monitor on the extended desktop. If I move Mozilla to the primary monitor the same page works correctly.
Disabling the hardware acceleration and restarting Mozilla resolves the issue. While I can use Mozilla, it is still not ready for prime time using hardware acceleration.
Given that it is the only Browser or applicaiton that has this problem with displaying drop down menus on the second monitor, I would suggest that it is either a Mozilla hardware acceleration problem or Mozilla needs to work with the graphics card manufacturers to resolve a problem that only Mozilla seems to have with their drivers.

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

  • HT5019 If my second display is not showing up on the graphics display window, yet the second display is showing a mirror image, how can I get it to recognize the second display and allow me to setup extended desktop?

I'm running 10.9.2 on a Power Mac from 2013.  I am using two identical HP monitors.  I have a Y adapter to connect the monitors.  Which I'm guessing means the computer is only seeing one display since there is only one display output.

There are no PowerMacs from 2013.   The desktop tower from 2006 on got named Mac Pro.    The problem is probably the Y adapter.    You need a videocard with two display ports, or two videocards to be able to make an extended desktop from one to the other.  If you gave us the Y adapter make and model, we could tell if it supports screen spanning or not.

  • Dual Display, 2 Monitors - Extended Desktop

    Hello Everyone:
There isn't a clear cut answer or solution in connected a Macbook Air to 2 external monitors in an attempt to create an extended desktop. I have read older posts that it's either doable or not doable. My questions are the following:
-Is it possible to connect a new Macbook Air to 2 external monitors for extended desktop purposes?
-Some users have reported lag issues (mouse dragging , delays, etc.). Will this happen for sure with a Macbook Air or is it a monitor issue?
-What's the best non-Apple monitor brand that would work best with a Macbook Air for dual display purposes? I've read that Dells have a problem in this regard.
-What would be the advantage or disadvantage of using a dock station in setting up a dual display environment? Would this add to the lag, latency factor?
I'm thinking of investing in a new Macbook Air, but I want to make sure I dont end up with silly issues - such as latency, monitors, etc.
Thank you for all your help and advise.
    Best,
    G.

Yes, extended desktop works with monitors set to differant resoultions. the Monitors pref pane allows you to select relative arrangements and rez of all monitors composing the extended desktop.
    personally I run a dell CRT at 2304 X 1728 @ 60Hz along with an NEC 6FG a 2048 X 1280 @ 60Hz off a radeon 9800pro on an MDD.

  • Airplay display issues: "extend desktop" not working properly. Secondary display continues to mirror.

Whenever I turn my airplay display on and set it to "extend desktop," my secondary display (TV) continues mirroring my mac book pro (hereinafter MBP). It doesn't fully mirror my MBP, but my secondary display registers every time I switch between my desktop 1 and my full screen apps. Moreover, When I do switch to a fullscreen app on my MBP, I get a blank (blue-ish) screen on my TV.
    Any solutions!?!
Additionally, "extended desktop" for my Airplay display worked properly when Mavericks was first released.

    Try this:
Click on the Apple TV Icon on the top toolbar
Then, select "Mirror Built in Display" instead of extend desktop
In the same menu under "Match Desktop size to:" select "Apple TV" (or keep it on "built in display if that works"
This solved a similar problem for me.

  • Display goes to Extended Desktop when awoke in Closed Clamshell on TV

I use my 13" MBP in closed Clam Shell mode nearly all the time. I have it connected to my Sony 40" HDTV using the Griffin adapter and it works great most of the time.
BUT sometimes when it comes off sleep mode. All my desktop icons are on the extended desktop (TV) and the dock is on the main screen (Closed Laptop Screen)
So I have to Open up laptop. Make Laptop go to sleep. Close Laptop to closed clam shell again then everything is good on TV again.
Not sure why this is happening. Probably 1 in 10 sleeps it does this.
    Any Ideas anyone.......
    Thanks in advance

Yup. I have no issues using an external display in clamshell mode. It's only when I try to airplay to my apple tv while in this clamshell mode that I run into problems. So to clarify, there are 3 devices in my situation: my macbook, my external monitor, and my apple tv (which is connected to my hdtv of course, so 4 devices). Usually I just use my external monitor with my macbook closed. That works fine. But when I occasionally want to airplay to my apple tv as additional mirrored/extended monitor, I have to open up the macbook first to exit clamshell mode. Otherwise if I just go straight into airplay while still in clamshell mode, my hdtv shows a frozen image, my external monitor goes black and I have no choice but to manually turn off my macbook. Hope that makes sense. I think it would be easier if I could draw a diagram haha.

  • Can you toggle Extended Desktop?

Hey this is my first post here on the board,
my problem has to do with multiple displays. I currently have my LCD TV connected via the mini-DVI to my mac. The extended desktop works great. The only problem is that I don't always want to extend my desktop to the TV screen, I only want to do so when I watch a movie etc. It gets irritating when the TV is turned off and something is on the other screen.
So my question is: Is there some way of turning output to the second monitor on/off? The effect I am looking for is essentially the same as if I pulled the mini-DVI cable out of my iMac. (The main screen would remain and the other would go black, restricting the cursor to the main display).
AppleScript snippets, Automator stuff, Widgets anything!
I hope you can help me out.

    Bludger wrote:
Thanks for your replies! You are right mirrored mode would fix the problem iff it wasn't for the fact that the two displays (one being the TV) have different resolutions, this results on black bars on my iMac's screen -- which really isn't cool. Instead I would like to completely stop output to the other display (TV). Just like in windows (the feature called "Extend my display to this monitor" or something like that.
there is no option to do that. you'll just have to unplug the external monitor when you don't want to use it.

  • PowerPc G4 Extended Desktop

    Hi there,
I was wondering if someone could help me? I have a 533 MHz PowerPc G4 and have just attached 2 monitors... hoping for an extended desktop. 1 of the monitors connects to the VGA port direct and I also purchased a ADC to VGA Adapter to connect the 2nd monitor. At the moment it only shows mirrored screens and the display option in preferences will not let me click arrange.
I have a Ge Force2 MX graphics card, and looking through the apple forums, it says that I should be able to have extended desktop? I am running OSX 10.3.9.
Is this a graphics card problem? If so, do I need a whole new graphics card or is it possible to install a second graphics card. At the moment there is 3 slots free (1 is being used for a sound card) and the graphics card is in the AGP slot.
    Hope someone can help.
    533 Mhz PowerPC g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

An ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition would be one relatively cheap and easy option. It's an AGP card and would replace your existing one, has an ADC and DVI connector and comes with a DVI to VGA adapter, so with your existing ADC to VGA adapter you'd be able to connect two VGA monitors. It came in 64MB and 128MB versions and was discontinued some time ago, although they seem to appear on eBay regularly.
    http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9000me/radeon9000prome/index.html
The ATI Radeon 9200 Mac Edition is the only Mac compatible PCI graphics card I'm aware of that's still readily available new. It should work in conjunction with your existing card to drive a second display, has a DVI and VGA connector and comes with a DVI to VGA adapter. It doesn't seem compatible with OS 9 when installed in some G4s (including yours), but is supported under OS X.

Failing that I guess you could look for a twin-view version of the GeForce 2 MX or GeForce 4 MX on eBay that someone's pulled from their Mac whilst upgrading. As far as I'm aware they were never available retail. Which ever card you choose though, it needs to be a Mac version as a PC graphics card won't work.

  • Screensaver eMac monitor while in extended desktop mode?

Officially, eMacs can mirror to an external display but cannot do extended desktop. Since my 2005 eMac's built-in monitor is only functioning correctly at low resolutions (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013835), I'm using a program called Screen Spanning Doctor to run it in extended desktop mode. My eMac is running Mac OS 10.4.11.
*I'm searching for a way to run a screensaver and/or turn off the eMac's built-in monitor while I continue to use my external monitor.* Is that possible? I've configured my external monitor to function as the primary display while the eMac's built-in monitor is the extended display.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
I've found a solution to my problem!
I'd forgotten that Mac OS X allows each monitor in an extended desktop configuration to have its own desktop picture. I copied all desktop pictures to a new folder, used the procedure described at http://www.macworld.com/article/51937/2006/07/savedesk.html to copy all Apple screensaver photos to that new folder, and then configured System Preferences => Desktop & Screen Saver => Desktop to use that new folder and change the picture every five seconds. EDIT: I selected "Random order" too.
This won't be too distracting since I'm using an external monitor as my primary display. Also, this solution should require only a tiny percentage of my computer's resources. Thanks again to all of you for your great ideas!

  • Extended desktop lows resolution

    Hi all.
First of all i would like to thank you for helping people like me to solve their problems all around the world.
    Did someone experiencied this?
I couldn`t set an 85HZ when my resolution was at 1024 * 768 and 32bits color quality. So I tried doing everything I find in this forum and in the nforcershq forum... nothing seemed to work... and finally........ in one try of uninstalling and installing de nvdia drivers, I uninstall the second monitor listed in the device manager, so when I went to the display properties I didn`t have the second display active(Extend Desktop in this device) and 1024*768*32bit*85hz AVAILABLE. There was the simple answer, when activating the second device(TV in my case)the first device(monitor SyncMaster753DFX)refresh rate lowed from 85HZ to 60HZ with no other choices.. the only thing I could do was to turn to 16 bits color Quality to get back the 85Hz rate.
Does someone understand what is happening?
Does anyone know if its possible to correct this situation?
    Tanks in advance.
    I have a K7N2G-L and 512DDR266PC2100(spectek) in slot 3, XP SP1

if i understand correctly, yes this did happen to me. i believe this happened when i installed the gpu drivers from the msi site. my refresh was stuck at 60hz. i was able to solve it by changing from -clone- to -standard- in display props. now use nvidia unified drivers with no above problem.

  • Extended desktop

I am running an Imac G5 that I just had repaired. Before the repair i was able to do an extended desktop. Now I am not able to. Support says that the my version will only do mirroring and that maybe the previous user had DLed someting that would do extended. My other monitor is an AOC 19".
I do video editing and extended is much more helpful than mirrored.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hello Medwards07,
Yes, there is a program that enables this feature, and it works on all the iMac G5 systems.
    You can get it here:
    Screen Spanning Doctor
    http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html
If you'd like to read a little about it, Mac World did a little Tinkering:
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/editors/2004/10/imacscreenspanning/index.php
So, this should do what you want. Keep in mind that Apple does not support this. So, if you use this, and have any trouble, they will likely not cover / repair the problem.
    I hope this helps.
Let us know if you have other questions.
P.S., if you'd like, go ahead and click the "Helpful" or "Solved" buttons on any of the posts / replies above if you feel they were helpful or adequately answered your question.
