T420s drains battery when turned off

Hi,
I am changing my T400s to T420s and during setup of a new machine I got some strange sindrom. T420s uses battery when it is turned off. To check yesterday afternoon I put on post-it note that it had 86% battery and this morning when I turned it on it was on 67% battery.
I turned off always on USB when power off.
Any ideas what is draining battery?

1. automatic updating or backup
2. other scheduled tasks
3. wake on lan
4. fingerprint reader

  • Ibook 900mz drains battery when turned off?

i have an issue where my ibook 900mhz drains the battery while turned off. I know that slight drain is normal but i mean like 100% to 0% overnight. I have tried multiple batteries and all have the same issue. It is not the battery but the ibook...im pretty sure. What can be causing this and how can i fix it?
    Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
This can happen if you leave the adapter plugged into the iBook but not plugged into an electrical outlet. Could that be the problem?

  • Macbook Pro discharges battery when turned off

I've had my Macbook Pro 15" for close to a year now (Mid-2010 revision), and this issue has only happened a couple of times, where when after shutting down the machine at night (full shut-down, not sleep), I turn it back on in the morning to find that the battery has been completely discharged. I thought that the first time, which happened some time ago, probably a few months back, had been me accidentally leaving the computer on running a program which drained the battery, but the most recent incident I am fairly certain that the machine was powered down fully before unplugging the power cord and any other attachments for the night.
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if it is a major problem? I don't have AppleCare, but may consider getting it before my warranty is up if needed (in about a month) to diagnose/fix the problem with the least trouble/cost. Not afraid to open up my machine if the forum members suggest it, but because the problem is impossible for me to replicate, any solutions (baseless or not) may or may not help and I won't be able to confirm it.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Steve

Battery health is normal, 97-100% when fully charged and discharges normally when under regular use with the power cord unplugged (about 5-6 hours of usage when under moderate load, can sleep for 6-7 hours and only see a 2-4% drop). WIll post info from the system profiler in case it helps.

  • IPhone battery discharges even when turned off since iOS 5.1.1

Since updating to iOS 5.1.1 I have had battery problems, discharging at around 4% per hour even when not used. Turning off every concieveable service and reloaded iOS as a new device unfortunately has not solved the problem. I have resorted to leaving the phone plugged in all of the time and recently started to turn it off overnight. To my surprise, the phone continues to discharge when turned off! I couldn't find this problem when I searched (apologies if I didn't search hard enougth!)

I have been waiting for months for the next iOS to see if it would rectify my battery drain problem but I continued to have the battery discharge problem after installing iOS6 .
My Home button has been playing up with random no responses and random double clicks, so I replaced the home button hoping that may also address the battery drain issue - no joy.
Then I had a look to see if I had added any Apps when the problem first appeared at the time of upgrading to iOS5.1.1. (You can view Apps by date in iTunes on the iPhone Apps tab.)
It turns out that on about the same day as the iOS 5.1.1 update I also added the Lifesize ClearSea video conferencing App. Today I disabled the App in iTunes (unchecked it) and resynced the iPhone. I believe this removes the App from the phone whilst leaving it in my iTunes so I can add it back easily. For the first time in months my phone is now cold rather than luke warm.
Superficially at least it seems that ClearSea has been running in the background, even when manually quitted and even when the iPhone was powered OFF! I will report back in a few days to confirm this was the culprit.
Five months with a phone that barely lasts a day has been a real pain...

Do you place the ipod in the dock during the night? I did this once and the other day the battery was almost empty because it kept on playing after it rested in the dock.

    Hi everyone,
I have bought the Toshiba Satellite P855-10G, but im terrified because he runs out of battery even when turned off..
Anyone knows how can i solve the issue?
    Best regards,

    Hi
Access the BIOS and turn OFF the options like: Waking up on LAN and Keyboard.
In Toshiba HW Setup I recommend disabling the USB Sleep and Charge function as well
Both enabled options might allow discharging the battery even if the unit is OFF

  • My ipod touch 4th gen froze! blank white screen and doesn't respond when turned off, or connected to my laptop

my ipod touch 4th gen froze! only blank white screen and doesn't respond when turned off or connected to my laptop!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • My iPod Nano 2nd gen. has a black caterpillar-like shape on the screen when turned off. I recharged and reset. What else should I do?

My iPod Nano 2nd gen. has a black caterpillar-like shape on the screen when turned off.
It disappears when turned on. It must mean something. I recharged and reset. What else, if anything, should I do?

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • Macbook Pro won't login after sleep (sleep with low battery -- mac turned off maybe it's called save sleep)

Macbook Pro won't login after sleep (sleep with low battery --> mac turned off maybe it's called save sleep)
So if I hit the powerbutton my mbp booted like it is booting from the save sleep (so very fast and the login screen is there in about 10 sec.and there is no apple logo while booting just the desktop screen in "unsharp" ore foggy however...)
Then when i see the login (if the keyboard backlight turned on) i wand do tipe in my code but it won't work... the trackpad is not working; and when i plug-in a usb mouse the mbp is not powering on the usb-mouse (laser is off)
    Why is that this way?
Is there n option to wake up the mbp fromm deep/save sleep without haveing issiues after that?

Sorry for such a long delayed response...
I was able to get to an apple store this past weekend, and let me tell you... I'm about finished with there great "support".
Right before I went to the store, I tried to eject a disk. Well the cloth in the SuperDrive (I assume to protect the drive from dust and such) Pulled up with my disk. So I get the Apple store, describe my problem and what happened with the cloth piece. The "Genius" writes up a form and tells me they have to run diagnostic and it will take a couple days... and I will get a call when its done (1-3 days).
Well on day number 3 I called up the store and they told me it was ready to be picked up? I asked if anything had been fixed and they told me they could not reproduce my "sleep issue", so they couldn't fix that.. but told me the cloth piece in the SuperDrive had been fixed.
I drive an hour (one way) to the Apple store to find that all they did was PULLED OUT the cloth... they did not replace it! So basically I have a hole for a Super Drive.
I asked why I was not called to say that my computer was ready to be picked up... didn't get an answer on that one.
I asked why my SuperDrive was said to be fixed, when nothing was done... they told me that it would have to be sent out to the factory store for that to be fixed (FIRST TIME THEY MENTIONED THAT!) Oh, and that would take 5-7 business days. Well that's not going to happen right now considering I'm a college student that NEEDS a working computer!
So I go home, angry... start just putting all my important documents back on the computer. And the screen starts blinking!!!! I guess now I have the same thing described in another post on these forms...
Lets just say that I'm not very happy with Apple right now! If anybody else has success on either the sleep issue or the screen blinking issue, please let me know!
    Thank you!

  • Battery Problem - Turning off with 60 % left

    Hi
I am having an issue with my 2009 Unibody 13" macbook
I have had absolutely no issues at all since I bought it and the battery life up until now has been amazing.
However the last 2 days I have had something strange happening... when I charge the laptop fully (100% shown in bar - green light on AC adaptor)....
I then use the laptop on battery - it tells me I have the normal amount of time remaining on battery power - it gets down to anywhere near 60-65% left and suddenly turns off...
It is the dead - not even in dead sleep until I plug in my AC adaptor again...
    My battery info is below:
    Battery Information:
      Model Information:
      Serial Number:          9G85201ZQ3NYB
      Manufacturer:          DP
      Device name:          bq20z951
      Pack Lot Code:          0000
      PCB Lot Code:          0000
      Firmware Version:          002a
      Hardware Revision:          0005
      Cell Revision:          0100
      Charge Information:
      Charge remaining (mAh):          2132
      Fully charged:          No
      Charging:          Yes
      Full charge capacity (mAh):          3093
      Health Information:
      Cycle count:          210
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          757
      Voltage (mV):          12171
As you can see this all appears very normal? Is there a fault with my battery?
It is only just over 2 years old - and I have had laptops before and always ensure I cycle the battery when using it - full charge, use of battery, full charge, etc...
I will not be able to calibrate the battery as it says on Apple support because the battery just turns off when it gets to 60-65%...
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks
    John

    Thanks Andrew...
I have done an SMC reset and it is now running on battery currently run charge down to 50%
So it is at least better, but I will run it flat, then charge it...
Ironically I think the SMC thing might have something to do with why it took over 6 hours to charge last night!
I will reply back so people can learn from my experiences...
    Cheers mate!

ipod looses power when turned off

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Likely a bad battery

The iPod Nano battery will not charge unless you connect it to your computer, to an AC outlet with a wall adapter, a charging dock or an auto adapter/dock.
You battery is always discharging when idle or shut off.  You should read the manual for your model iPod Nano regarding batteries - iPod Manuals

  • IPhone 5 will not be recognized by iTunes or charge while on but when turned off the iPhone will charge just fine but still won't sync with iTunes what should I do?

Was charging my iphone 5 for about an hour or so after charging unplugged and went to playing games phone was at 5% so I grabbed my cable and plugged it into the wall nothing happened tried three different chords and blocks and sockets afterwards I plugged my phone into the computer and it wouldn't charge or sync with iTunes it acted as if it wasn't even plugged in so I shut the phone off and though I'd give It a break and try again later. As I got ready to go to bed I though I'd try to plug it back in and see if anything happened nothing did so I just left it I went to mess with it this morning and come to find out it was at 100% I continued to mess with it and i came to the conclusion that it only charges when turned off. I can't get the phone to reset and would love to restore with iTunes if it would sync with iTunes I don't know what I need to do but really need my problem resolved since its a hassle to have to turn off my iphone in order to get it to charge

Is that a new iPhone? Bring it in to Apple for a replacement.
    But do this first:
hold the Home Button and the Power Button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything on the screen, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo appear, then let go and let it start up.
It should charge both when on and off, unless you connect throug a hub and there are current eaters also on the hub: connect directly to the usb port.

I removed battery without turning off my mac book pro. Now it will not boot up or remove cd. I tried restarting with eject, spacebar, command e, option, trackpad, and f12 depressed, individually each time to no avail. I installed a 2 gb. ram kit and loaded OSX Snow Leopard after removing battery. I tried reinstalling the old ram with no luck..................Any help or suggestions would be welcome...........Thank You!

And you eject the CD by holding down the mouse/trackpad button before powering up; that is, before the startup chime.
BTW, if no startup chime or a different melody, RAM ist kaput.

should iphone 4 receive messages when turned off and display them when switched back on

It's up to the cellular carrier, but I believe most (if not all) will enqueue the messages when your iPhone is off.
So generally speaking, a few minutes after you turn your iPhone on, your messages should display.  Similarly, your voicemails would arrive.
