T420s Nvidia Drivers

Howdy,
I am looking for an older version of Nvidia drivers, specifically: 8.17.12.7658.  The new version (9620) doesn't allow me to select the Nvidia card for certain applications like VLC, WMP, or Media Player Classic.  That being said, I know the Nvidia card automatically runs everything connected to an external monitor however when not using an external monitor, I was able to set my defaults allowing me to multitask without the Intel card being the sole provider.  The old version allowed you to set each specific application, that is why I need to downgrade.  I've searched on Lenovo Support for old drivers but to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated.  Also in the past, Nvidia drivers were more up to date then Lenovo's however when Nvidia added this feature (not being able to select specific programs, or shading the option to), I jumped back to Lenovo's 7658.  My fault for updating to the latest Lenovo driver.

T61, Centrino Duo @1.8, GM965, 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 @667MHz, OCZ Agility 120GB SSD, 7Pro x64

to add a bit more... if you substitute txt for the exe ( http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/83de44ww.txt ) in your url, you can seemingly get the readme file to go along with the driver pack.
cheers.

  • Satellite P500-12D - Can I use the nVidia drivers?

The Latest NVIDIA Drivers on the Toshiba update website are 8.15.11.8642 but there are newer versions on the NVIDIA website. I would like ot update the NVIDIA Drivers but I am having difficalties.
I tried to install version 195.62 (Win7 64bit) for the Geforce 200M Series fron the NVIDIA SITE but the install doesn't complete. I get the message: "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Does Toshiba only allow their own versions of the drivers? Is there a way to allow the NVIDIA drivers to istall?

    Hi
Counter question: Why you want to use other display drivers? Are you not satisfied with the Toshiba drivers or can you notice any problems in Windows?
Theoretically its possible to use the drivers from nVidia directly but dont forget that they are not pretested on your notebook. Your graphic card could be overheating and so you will loose the warranty.
Satellite P500 is pretty new so I assume Toshiba will update the display driver in next time too. Just have a look on the page from time to time. ;)

  • 790FX-GD70 + unlocked 720BE + Nvidia Drivers = Failed boot?

Good evening folks! Been quite a while since I last played in these forums (the rig in my sig is 3+ years old, and long gone....     ), but it's great to see that the tradition of a helpful community seems to have continued on in my absence.
I've didn't have any luck with a search for previous posts on the issue I'm having, but if it's a common issue and I missed a post or faq I'd be happy for a link.
    So now to the meat......
I recently returned from the darkside and purchased my first AMD system since AMD dropped S939. I decided on the 790FX-GD70 paired with a 720be and some OCZ ram. Everything on the board seems to be working fine, but I ran into a snag when I loaded the 1.52 beta bios in order to unlock the 4'th core.
The core unlocks fine, and XP completes the initial load (scroll bar), but hangs on a black screen just before getting to the logon page. I immediately suspected a problem loading the vid drivers, and removed the nvidia drivers. The stock XP vid drivers allowed me to boot into windows normally which verified my original suspicions (CPU-Z confirms 4 cores). Re-installing the latest drivers causes windows to hang at the same place, and this doesn't happen without ACC unlocking the 4'th core.
    Any ideas?
    My current hardware is:
    790FX-GD70
    720BE
    OCZ 1600 DDR3
    Sparkle GTX275 Plus

I won't post passwords to MSI FTP, but Tony over at OCZ was good enough to post the the bios updates: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59825
Cool!!! Thanks a lot for the link, not only did I get the bios file, but it also put me in the right area to check out Tony's suggested settings on this board for my memory.
edit: It might be a week or so by the time I get around to playing with this (I have other committments with the board that can be satisfied by OCing just the 3 cores for now), but I will report back if I have any luck with the 153 bios, or if an older set of drivers makes the difference.

  • Sever issue with Xorg and Nvidia Drivers

I run a 2.6.20 kernel with Xorg and Nvidia drivers all from arch rep on a Asus NV6200. Everything works fine, except one thing. When I exit X, the monitor shuts down imediatly. It wont start up at all, not even by manual startup. I cant understand what happens. The configuration is correct, is done with the correct settings for my video-card and monitor taken directly from the documentation. I cant use my X server at all since several days ... I checked the logs and there are no EE's. Anyway ... here is the log. Help anyone can help, I cant use X at all.

No ... the problem is in the kernel that comes precompiled.
    I did this test.
The first time I installed the kernel I unloaded nvidiafb since I dont like it.
When I install nvidiafb back something strange happends. Nvidia module fails to load.
The modprobe sais it cannot find the device nvidia.ko ... but it is there!
So my best guess is, there is something with the kernel. Any ideas?
    Problem resolved, installed older driver

  • Blank screen with proprietary nvidia drivers [SOLVED]

I've just installed arch on a new computer, and have encountered an issue- I can't get it running with the proprietary drivers, just nouveau, which is quite the handicap on a GeForce 660.
I used the beginner's guide since my last fresh install was using the arch installation framework. Everything went more or less smoothly, and I booted in to a working system- indeed, I can still boot into it just fine if I chroot in with my install media and swap back to nouveau. If I don't, I get the typical udev boot messages and all, and then it blanks out instead of going to the login prompt. It also does this if I uninstall both nvidia and nouveau drivers.
I've looked at some threads over this, and none of them seemed to apply. I've tried both current and 304 drivers, regenerated initramfs, and blacklisted nouveau.
One last bit of information that may or may not be relevant: at least one of the threads mentioned these issues being related to GRUB, while I'm booting straight from UEFI using efibootmgr- not sure if that could be related in any way.

Hm, I seem to have solved it by blacklisting i915, as suggested in the talk page on nvidia drivers for UEFI users.

  • Could MBPro Nvidia 8600M GT card problems be caused by Nvidia drivers?

Just got back from the Authorized Apple tech shop, where they tested my MBPro 15" 2.4Ghz with Nvidia 8600M GT with 256MB vram, using the special Nvidia test software. They hook your MBPro to an external HD with the test software on it.
They tested my MBPro and the results said the video card WASN'T defective or affected by the known defects.
When the tech said "everything's normal", I said that it may not be eligible for the free replacement program, it may have cleared all the Nvidia tests, and the video card might not be "officially" defective, but if there's one thing the display on my $1800 MBPro is NOT is "normal".
I insisted the tech guy look at my MBPro in action, scrolling down and up longish text and web pages. Took him about 3 seconds to "get it", i.e. what I'd been describing as the dizzying ripples, where the text "bulges" up and out at you as you scroll up and down.
He said, Yeah, wow, I guess you do have something there. But you're still not eligible for the replacement program.
I said I wasn't interested in getting the logic board replaced, in fact I'd prefer NOT to have to leave the MBPro for any length of time. But I was not ready to hear someone say it was "normal".
I said I'd had just about every Mac ever made, including a few recent Intels, and NONE of them ever had this "ripple" problem. I still have a Core Duo 20" iMac - no ripples - and a Core 2 Duo Macbook - no ripples - and I asked the tech what he could make of that.
He said hold on a sec, and went onto his brand new 24" iMac and, lo and behold, he said "Well, yeah, I see what you mean by those ripples. I'd never noticed it before."
So he called over the other tech guy and they looked at the ripples up and down, and said that it might get annoying after 8 hours at your computer.
Then he said that seeing as the problem WASN'T there with the Intel Macs that had ATI cards in them, or Intel GMA for the Macbook, the problem just might be with the NVIDIA DRIVERS. He said it looks like a problem REFRESHING and REDRAWING the screen. And might be solvable in future releases of the drivers and/or the OS.
Anyone think it might be the NVIDIA drivers?

Quote from: niffcreature on 10-July-11, 02:01:47
Um, have you actually compared benchmarks of other 8600m GT cards?
They aren't very good in the first place.
There is nothing to compare, i see a graphic performance slowdown in everything, and detailed list from gpu-z. I've found a problem, now i need the solution.

  • Should I upgrade my NVIDIA drivers from version 301.42 to 314.07 on my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro (6,2)?

    Hello,
I was wondering if it would be wise for me to upgrade my MacBook Pro nvidia drivers from version 301.42 to the current version 314.07? Reason, I am asking this is because my MacBook Pro has the nvidia GeForce GT 330m processor with 256mb of video memory and I haven't updated my Windows 7 64bit Home Premium display drivers for about 7 months. At the time I installed the 301.42 driver it was the latest WHQL release, and back then I did the upgrade after installing the Bootcamp 4.0 drivers (from the Bootcamp Assistant which had the 26X.XX driver version), Windows 7 SP1, and all Windows Updates. I used a clean install on those drivers. So far, I haven't had any problems with the 301.42 driver which makes me sometimes double think whether I should upgrade the drivers or not to the 314.07 version. As a result this is why I go to these forums and ask what could be the best course of action in my case?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes you should by all means update to the latest Nvidia drivers on the windows side of things. I presume you are using bootcamp (since thats really the only place this is relevant).
    But yes! you should

  • JRE 1.3.1_02 does not work with new Nvidia drivers - HELP!

I am a user and not a developer but this problem really does bite the big one. I have had installed JRE 1.3.1 and have used it to run LimeWire file sharing program for a long time (LimeWire is a java program from www.limewire.com) and also use it to see java applets on web pages in IE 6.
I have since upgraded my Nvidia video drivers to version 2.8.3.2 which is the latest official release at this time from Nvidia. Since doing this I have no java at all anymore. Limewire refuses to run at all and there is an error report generated in it's resident directory. If I go to http://java.sun.com, IE hangs and then dissappears, leaving a bug report on my desktop. It seems that JRE does not like the new NT OpenGL dll at all in the new Nvidia drivers and will not run at all. The dll that causes the problem is:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvoglnt.dll
I upgraded JRE to version 1.3.1_02 because Sun says this is the latest version and runs on XP which is what I have. Still java does not run at all anymore and I get the same bug reports. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem? This really stinks because now I cannot use LimeWire at all and if any web page has java on it, it dissappears right away and there is no more browser on my desktop. The only way I can even visit http://java.sun.com is if I use a Java blocking applet to filter out java applets on web pages.
Please address this issue in JRE development and release a patch for it or a workaround.
    Thank you for reading this.

    Chuck,
I stumbled in here looking for help, I am a PC user,
not a coder or developer (How sad. <g>). I checked for
updates to the Nvidia driver (none), Windows XP (not
at this time), and DirectX 8.1 (not at this time,
these come on the XP updates page so far as I know.)
    Not too suprising...
I have no idea of how to implement your suggestion on
how to disable the JMV use of DirectX overal in my XP
envornment. I guess that using Internet Explorer 6 to
see web pages with Java on them are pretty much out of
the question for now but I would be happy as a clam if
I could get my LimeWire application going again.
LimeWire is called via a desktop or Start menu
    shortcut in this fashion:
    Target Box: C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe -cp .
    RunLime
    Start In (directory): "C:\Program Files\LimeWire 1.7"
So it appears that java is called via the javaw.exe
file and passes a cp argument (whatever that is), then
there is a period separator (dunno why) and then the
"RunLime" statement that calls up the LimeWire
program.to implement the suggestion, simply add -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true between "javaw.exe" and "-cp" separating it from them by a space on each side. Your result should look something like this:
    c:\windows\system32\javaw.exe -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -cp . RunLime
    >
I cannot see any need for fancy graphic acceleration
or DirectX being called to play for this application
since it is basicly a file manager that shares.
Nothing fancy about it.It's not the application choosing to do this, but Java itself. Java GUI applications specifically those who use the Swing GUI classes (like LimeWire, if I recall) automatically leverage DirectX. This is really valuable for Swing applications since they emulate Windows (or Mac or Motif) GUI widgets rather than using them, making fast access to display buffers important to ensure best performance.
    >
Do you have any idea of how to pass your
    "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true" statement to disable
DirectX into the above call to start java and
    LimeWire?See above.

Hanging by the edge of my seat, waiting for more input
on this. Thank you for your time and suggestions.

  • Wrong nvidia drivers for Satellite A100 (PSAA9)

I downloaded nvidia drivers 97.45 but this driver recognizes my GeForce Go 7600 card as NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M. Is there something wrong with the drivers?
At nvco.inf I found that there is only support for the latter card. What is happening?

I wrote here last week but nobody answer me. I have Satellite A100-PSAA9 and driver doesnt work on Windows Vista. It says "This driver compatible with Wista Vista" so I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate also Turkish language. I was thinking maybe problem is Turkish version but I see it is not.
I called Toshiba Turkey customer support but they said "We didnt test yet Vista driver, please bring your laptop here. Maybe we will report this Toshiba Europe and they will release new driver soon". I dont want to bring it anywhere, I want some solution.
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 doesnt work with Windows Vista Ultimate. Nvidia.com on web sites not release yet any GeForce Go Vista Driver. What does it mean?

  • Nvidia drivers stop XP at start up

I hope you guys can help me. I’ve been surfing from site to site, forum to forum looking for the answer to this.
Ok, I’ve just built myself a new PC, (spec below in the signature spot) all went well with the hardware assembly. Plugged her in, switched on and there’s the POST and BIOS, cool, next the OS. XP pro loads without a hitch, I’m grinning at this point thinking that I’ve got through this with style!
So, drivers: new MoBo/chipset drivers loaded no probs. Next, video card. DLed the latest driver set from Nvidia, run the exe file, restart, get just past the windows splash screen, and nothing.... the monitor goes blank, flickers a bit, then... more nothing!  The PC’s still running but the monitor off. Hmm, ok, restart in safe mode, (windows loads fine with the generic drivers) remove all trace of the offending driver find an earlier version and same again - sometimes it'll reboot itself but it never gets past the splash screen. I've tried all the obvious stuff I can think of ; a clean install, checked the IRQ list for conflicts, taken the card out waved it around and put it back in, looked through the bios using the advice of a few good web sites...still no luck.
What have I missed? Does any one know what the Nvidia drivers are trying to load that could be locking or looping WinXP on start up? Or could it be an AGP problem on the mother board?
As I say spent a good few days trying things out and searching on the internet for the solution to this problem and as I’ve not found one (even on this site) - I thought I should ask. Please can someone point me in the right direction – thanks in advance for any help!
If there's a thread dealing with this that I missed, please let me know!

  • Xorg 1.8 and nvidia drivers 'nvidia-xconfig' NEED tip to fix

[what part of my xorg.conf needs to me moved, and to where?]
Hi, I routinely swap between intel, savage, nvidia drivers running my ARCH install off my USB.
Ok, so I'm using xorg 1.8 and the intel works though of course the nividia with nvidia-xconfig command writes and xorg.conf to
    /etc/X11
Right, so I am aware, I believe the it's now the xorg.d folder. and, it currenly has 3 files in it, none of which say
xorg.conf of course. The three are named starting with '10-'  you know the ones. :-)
So, what, where, how  with my xorg.cong of other, do i get myself running again? With your help i'd say!
    thanks.

So, added that near the top after ServerLayout
now it hangs with flashing cursor though I get different info
warning this server has a video ABI version of 7.0 that this driver does not officially support.etc. etc. etc.
Use the -ignorABI option to override this check.
    failed to load module nvidia
    fatal server error
    no screen found
Can you think of what I've done wrong?
i'm running latest everything though not 'testing' repo.
maybe put the 'ServerFlags" near the bottom?

  • [SOLVED] Extra resolutions for games with Nvidia drivers

When using the nouveau drivers, games and other such applications will allow me to select any resolution my screens (one 1920x1080, the other 1680x1050-- the latter of which is to the left of the first) will support, as well as 3600x1080, the combined total (spanning both screens). For instance, I can make something like Tux Racer 1280x800, and either windowed or fullscreen. However, with the Nvidia proprietary drivers, the only resolutions that I can select are 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 3600x1080. This prevents me from playing windowed games in such a way that they don't cover my whole screen, or playing fullscreen games at lower resolutions for higher performance. How can I use the Nvidia drivers and the "extra" resolutions? (Ideally, all those listed in the Xinerama output below)
    Xrandr outputs this:

Thanks. The first link worked, in the sense that my games now have all those resolution options, but now there's a new bug.
To future readers: a solution has been found for this bug as well, see below.
    My metamodes setting now reads:
    Option "metamodes" "CRT-0: nvidia-auto-select, CRT-1: nvidia-auto-select; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortI n=1920x1080}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1680x1050}; [b]nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1600x1200};[/b] nvidia-auto-sele ct {ViewPortIn=1440x900}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1400x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x1024}; nvi dia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x960}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x800}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=115 2x864}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1024x768}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=832x624}; nvidia-auto-select {View PortIn=800x600}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=700x525}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=640x480}; nvidia-auto-sele ct {ViewPortIn=512x384}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=400x300}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=320x240}
Because I now have included a resolution whose height is 1200 (or so I suppose-- if I remove that part, the issue does not occur), this happens:
    Xrandr output:
    Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3600 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
My X screen has the right length, but the wrong height! Now, my desktop seems to span the right area (3600x1080), but if I move my mouse to the bottom of that area, it pans down another 120 pixels. In that area, there's just graphical gibberish, often whatever I had on the screen last time.
If I use Xrandr to set my screens' output, it works again, butthere a solution within the Nvidia driver settings...
EDIT: It occurs to me that the setting seems to be taking the largest possible resolution for the X screen based on those metamodes.
EDIT 2: This is likely intended behavior. The proper virtual resolution (X screen resolution) may be restored by adding
    Virtual 3600 1080
to the "Display" subsection under the "Screen" section.
    I'll mark this as solved.
Here's my working xorg.conf, by the way. I've posted only the "Screen" section because that's all I've changed. The rest is in my first post.

  • NVidia drivers cause system instability

    Hello,
I recently purchased an MSI 865 Neo2 FIS2R mother board.  Here is how
    I have it configured:
    o Power Supply - FSP400-60PFN 400W (3.3V/28A, 5V/40A, 12V/15A, 5VSB/2A,
    -5V/0.3A, -12V, 0.8A)
    o Processor - 2.8GHz P4
    o RAM - 2 512MB PC3200 Kingston HyperX CL2
    o RAID 0 - 2 Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus SATA drives.
    o Video - Aopen GF3Ti500
o Primary IDE Master - TDK Indi DVD 440N
o Secondary IDE Slave - 56X CDROM Drive
    o Floppy Drive
I installed Windows XP on the RAID without incident.  When I tried to
install the NVidia display drivers (45.23), the system became
unstable.  Specifically here is what I noticed:
o The black Windows start-up screen with the blue progress bar would
flicker between black & blue around the same spot each time.
o From the login screen, when I chose my account, it would
briefly show my desktop and then I would hear the relays in my monitor
click, the screen go black, a second click and my screen would be fine
    again.
o If I used the display properties control panel and chose the
advanced option, again, click, blackness, click, everything's OK.
o I noticed that when I tried to use Window's Media player to play a
CD, it would crash during the 2nd song.  It would crash sooner and
sooner each time I restarted it until it was crashing as soon as I
started it (assuming I didn't reboot).  After than IE would crash,
Windows Explorer might crash or the system might spontaneously reboot.
o After rebooting, the system would be less stable, with IE or Windows
explorer crashing sooner than before (without even using Media Player).
This would continue to get worse (across re-boots) until it would
start crashing while loading Windows XP.
MAT and DOT are in the default setting and I have not tried adjusting
    any voltages, etc.
If I booted in safe mode and uninstalled the display driver, everything
would return to normal and the system would run fine.  I checked the
IRQs to make sure that wasn't a problem.  I noticed a device from the
Intel Chipset and the VGA card were both sharing IRQ 16.  I don't know
much about this (including how to change an IRQ) so I tried disabling
the Intel device (it dealt with the USB and I have no USB devices
currently attached).  The system didn't seem to mind having that device
disabled.  I reinstalled the display drivers, but the system behaved
    exactly the same.
I also tried stepping down to the 44.03 version of the drivers but
they actually made the system worse (my screen split in half and
    things turned purple!).
I also tried swapping between the GF3Ti500 and a GeForce4 MMX 440 The
only difference is that while starting windows, the monitor would
briefly go black instead of flickering between black and blue.  Both
cards run fine in my old machine, an MSI NForce mobo, using the
    45.23 drivers.
Since the problems usually started when I was using Media Player, I
tried disabling the sound device.  The system seemed to run fine (with
the exception of the monitor clicking).  I could play movies with the
media player, browse with IE, etc. with no crashes.  I couldn't find
any resources conflicts between the sound and the vga card.
Windows trouble shooter suggested updating the mobo BIOS.  I was
previously running 1.3. I tried updating to 1.7.  The reflash seemed
to go fine.  But when I rebooted, all I got was a black screen (no
beep).  I looked at the D-Bracket and noticed that it was stuck on the
RTC test.  I don't think that's the problem.  The next step is
initialization of the video system.  I tried the emergency recovery
procedure (with the 1.7 BIOS).  It worked, but still the screen
remained black, stuck on the same test.
How do I get (either) video card to work?  And should I just leave the
system flashed to 1.7, or try to use the emergency recovery program to
    get back to 1.3?
    Thanks in advance!

Hey Guys.  Thanks for the help.  I don't doubt that the NVidia drivers are fine, they're just part of the puzzle.  Just to be sure, I got a new PSU.  Here are it's specs:
    +5V/40A, +12V/24A, +3.3V/32A, -5V/-0.5A, -12V/1.0A, +5V SB/2A, max load 530W.
As I mentioned earlier, I had tried updating the BIOS to 1.7, after which it sticks on the RTC test (see my original post for details).  After installing the new PSU, it still stuck on the RTC test.  I tried reflashing to 1.3, but now the memory test is failing.  Does that seem right?  The RTC test is after the memory test, so why should reflashing to 1.3 cause a memory failure?  I'm assuming the reflash didn't work correctly.  If I can get it to work (fingers crossed) I'll let you know what happens.

  • Limited to one display mode with new nvidia drivers

I have a problem with nvidia drivers after 8178
I can get any display mode to work as long as i specify only one mode.
If i enter more modes in my xorg.conf, it will ignore all those modes and revert back to nvidia-auto-select (wich is 1024x768 in my case)
Anyway, i'm not able to change resolutions using xrandr for example. I need this for some applications that require to run in a different display mode ( old windows games i run using wine for example)
When i run X -logverbose 5 it becomes clear that all my monitor's supported modes are in the display pool.
I have also put in gtp generated modelines for all the modes i might need.
I really need a solution to this as i will probably no longer be able to use 8178 when xorg7.1 hits current.
This is what i have in my xorg.conf:

  • MBPr Nvidia Drivers Crashing in Windows 7 (64-bit) False graphic switch?

    Hey Guys
This is my first posting here because I simply don't know what to do anymore. Yesterday I was playing Borderlands 2 on my MBPr 2.3ghz version with every thing setting on high (Physx and AO turned off or low) and resolution of 1680x1050 and it runs at 60fps constantly.
Later on, I checked my desktop and saw a notification that my Nvidia Drivers has stopped working and after that all my 3D applications were slower. Borderlands 2 only ran at 20 frames now with the same settings and other games just didnt run so well anymore.
I have tried updating my Nvidia drivers and I also tried rolling back to an older driver but the results remain the same. The notification of the drivers crashing has vanished because I wanted to archieve the message but when I wanted to see my stored archieved messages it wasn't there.
My computer still shows that I do have an Nvidia Geforce 650m and according to other sources the Intel HD Graphics cannot be used in bootcamp but I have a strong feeling it did switch to it.

UPDATE: I fixed this issue by reseting the SMC! Hope this helps if anyone else had this issue!
