T420S Stuck at Thinkpad boot screen - Cont. loop

I was trying to fresh install Win 8.1. It has Win8 previously and was working fine.
After I plugged in the Win 8.1 boot usb, it stuck at thinkpad boot screen and cont. rebooting.
Only thing changed in BIOS is moving USB boot up higher and disabled Computrace. Earlier it was enabled.
I can still get to BIOS by F1.
Looked all the USB port. None of USB ports are damaged or pins shorting each other. I also tested the HD by putting in my other working T500. HD is fine. Restored BIOS to default as well but no luck.
Any idea?
Tried all the method including CMOS reset, but no help.
Thanks for the help!

No, it does stuck in the same loop. Continuously booting and showing Thinkpad boot screen again and again.
I took the HDD out and no USB connected. same behaviour with or without HDD.
In BIOS startup is set to both - Legacy and UFEI.
Only change I had made prior to installing Win 8.1 is turn off Intel Anti theft module under security in BIOS.

  • S90 stuck at the boot screen

My S90 is stuck at the boot screen. It shows the booth screen for hours now. If I switch the power button it will not swtich off the phone, but restart it again to the boot screen. What should I do with it? I considered that I could let it run out of battery, but I am not sure how much the phone can run on a simple booth screen with just the lenovo log on the screen. Also not sure if once I recharge it would not have the same problem. Any advice how to solve this?

I have no idea how it got stuck at the boot screen (the one after powered by android). The phone was out of battery, I connected it to the charger, immediately turned it on, and it got stuck. Draining did not help so I tried to fully charge it. That did not help. It was stuck at the boot screen until 5am (local time) so I had to follow the other instructions. That got me to a menu that let me choose the language between English and Chinese. Then I could reboot the device, power it off, install updates (or something similar), or wipe up device. Reboot or Power still got me back to being stuck at the boot screen. Install updates did not work. So I had to wipe up the data. That gave me two options (a) fuse wipe up data and (b) fuse format data (or something similar). No idea what the difference is, or what that does, but I was worried I will loose all my photos stored on the phone. But since I had no choice I decided to press "fuse wipe up data". That seems to have factory reset the phone. It started normally and it appears as after a factory resent (all my own apps and settings are gone). I had to pick the language and agree with Lenovo license agreement, etc. However, for some reason, all my photos were still in the phone's gallery (why?), so I  am now copying them to the pc. So that's how far I got so far. Thanks for your very valuable help and advice. Let's see if I encounter any more issues with it or any other peculiarities.

  • Apple tv 2 is stuck on apple boot screen

Try pulling ALL the cables for a moment and trying again, if the problem remains try restoring it by connecting it to iTunes with a micro USB cable.

  • Resetting all settings on iPhone makes it stuck at the boot screen endlessly

This is the second time my iPhone stuck at the boot screen and won't boot again until of course I restore all over again.
This problem happened on iOS 8 and iOS 8.1.2
Does anyone have an explanation for this problem or the iOS until this release is buggy?

Hi Try a Reboot press and hold power button and menu button hold both down until you see Apple Logo. This may take up to 50 Seconds. Cheers Brian

  • ThinkPad hangs on boot - stuck at Lenovo boot screen

I'm experiencing random boot issues with a brank new thinkpad yoga 20CD0038PB win 8.1 pro. Once the system stalls on the boot screen the fn light stays on and I cannot even access bios. Powering down and keeping power button pressed for several second doesn't help either, However If I leave the computer powered down for and hour or longer it usually boots like nothing happened. Then the issue comes back intermittently with a restart or sometimes a preceeding blue screen.
Sometimes when the issue occures it also reports hdd0 error, and lenovo sent me a new hdd which I replaced that this has not fixed the issue.
I have the latest BIOS GQET29WW 1.09. I've run memory and disk tests using Lenovo Solution Center and memory tests in bios and they were ok.
On the BIOS download page I've found references to some issues regarding boot hangs with earlier versions of bios (1.7).
At this point I'm stuck. Anyone experiencing similar issues?

I am also experiencing this problem Like the OP, it seems random and has occured from day one.
    Boots to Lenovo Screen
    Fails to show spinning circle
    F1 light stays on
Nothing further happens (longest I have left it for is ~ 5 min).
If I hold the power button down for several seconds, I can switch the machine off. Usually waiting 30-60 seconds and re-starting is sufficient for a normal boot and start up. On occassion, I have to go through the shut down cycle twice before I can successfully start the computer.
Unlike the OP, I have not seen any error messages, or blue screen.

  • W540 stuck on ThinkPad splash screen

I've got W540 (32GB RAM, 500GB HDD) running Windows 7.1 64bit that is constantly getting stalled at the ThinkPad splash screen during powerup.
It will often stall at the "ThinkPad" splash screen.
Other times it will stall at the "ThinkPad" splash screen with the "To interrupt normal startup, pess Enter" message displayed.
I've seen other entries that reference this issue with:
    - using a SSD, I'm a standard HDD.
    - a broken USB port.  Mine all look OK (is there a way to actually test them?)
I've updated to the latest Bios and reset the Bios defaults with no change.
I've run the hardware diagnostic tests and found no errors.
When I say "stall" on the splash screens I sometimes find if I leave it alone long enough (maybe 5+ minutes) it will continue to the normal Windows boot up.
This is the 2nd W540 out of a pool of laptops to display symptoms similar to this.
Anyone got information on what may cause a stall at the ThinkPad splash screen?
    Thanks.

Not knowing your exact set up, but KNOWING that this is a blind black box with no activity light like a normal workstation, you need to do workarounds.
Normally, on my older workstation, I could see the HD light blink and the rate would give me an inkling of the process.
The WORKAROUND: we now need to calibrate your computer clock to your watch, or use a cell phone time keeper which would already be synced if the W540 is connected to the WiFi (no switch so the W540 has to be connected, unless there is no access point).  As an aside, I have found that when there are large MS updates, like last Tuesday, or other such WiFi connected updated, the compute also hangs with the user having NO KNOWLEDGE that the WiFi is talking / or calling home to some cloud device.
Back to the workaround: Boot the system, and when there appears to be a crash or hang in the sequence, note the time of the 'event' and also note the time when it appears to restart.  Once properly booted, and I cannot tell you how often this has happened to my W540, check the even times in the [Event Viewer].  Too long to explain, Google the term "Win 7 Event Viewer", or check this:
    MS Help - Event Viewer
Then find out where the computer chokes and restarts by checking the time in the events and the cause.  These are i/o routines which the Lenovo Gods have decide to shield us from such WORKSTATION task.
FWIW, often I get <Program Not Responding>, when in fact it is performing a numbers intensive task.... yet I cannot tell what is happening as there is no i/o light. Usually unlocks when the task is finished, which may be what is happening on your system.  You need to find out the task that is  causing the wait.
Odd, the Lenovo Gaming machines Y50 have these lights, albeit atrophied:  see lower 4 indicator lights....

  • T400 is Stuck on Thinkpad Startup Screen

Had the laptop for 11 months no issues, I woke up to find the computer stuck on the startup screen. Tried rebooting, took out the battery, tried it pluged in, unpluged and it keeps stopping at the startup screen. Any suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello mate,
Unplug the AC adapter and take out the battery.
Then, you push the power button 10 times in a row at one second intervals.
Next, you push and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Then you put the battery back in and push the power button to turn on the computer.
    See if it works.

  • Installation stuck at grey boot screen on Macbook Pro 4,1 (Early 2008)

    Hey guys,
I would appreciate any help you guys can give me since I would really like to upgrade my laptop to Mountain Lion.
    Computer: Macbook Pro 17" 4,1 (Early 2008)
    RAM: 4 GB RAM
Hard drive: 128 SSD Hard drive
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    Current OS: Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Step I have taken but failed to properly install the OS.
Dowloaded Mountain Lion at least 3 times from the App store to make sure the download wasn't corrupted.
I even tried making a Lion Bootdisk so I can install Mountain Lion on a USB drive (Install ESD.dmg).
I have even tried installing Lion first thinking I would take it one version at a time but gets stuck on boot screen too.
I even changed my hard drive to an SSD drive to see any difference.
Each time I install Mountain Lion or Lion, everything is good until the installer has to restart the laptop.
Laptop gets stuck at the grey boot screen with the Apple logo and the loading circle. Nothing ever happens after.
Even waited for 7 hours but no changes in the boot screen.
I always had to use/boot to the Snow Leopard CD so I can restart the laptop back to the Snow Leopard drive.
What can I do? I would appreciate any help at all.
    Thanks!

  • Stuck at grey boot screen!

So yesterday i turned my laptop on to find out it wasnt booting up past the grey screen. Later on i did some trouble shooting and finally got it past to the main desktop screen. Now, recently i had just uninstalled and deleted my Windows 7 Pro partition i had put onto my laptop a while back but when doing so, when i tried getting my hard drive back to full storage amount  by deleting the partition,it gave me some error. I believe i figured out the error and was able to use my laptop from then. Once my computer was letting me get to the desktop screen, once i would click on an app it would often give me the pin wheel and stop me from clicking on anything else for a good minute.
Today,i had backed everything up and thought that i would just reformat and re install OSX to remedy the whole issue. This was not acheived. I had been able to get to the desktop screen a few times but still got the pin wheel situation going on. A couple tries later im stuck here at my grey boot screen. No Apple sign showing up, just stuck. Im usually a very computer savey person but this is kind of just making me wonder. I ordered a new hard drive (which i was going to upgrade anyways)  but wanted to know if this even could possibly be the issue. I upgraded from my stock hard drive about 6 months after i had gotten my laptop (mid 2009 model). The last 3 years ive been traveling very often, flying frequently and using it often for playing my DJ gigs. Im wondering if alltitude and hot clubs could take a tole on a hard drive when its running hot? I have  scheduled appoint for the genius bar tomorrow at 2pm but i thought id give the Apple community a try to see if we could troubleshoot it ourselfs. Any input would be great! Thanks!

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • After restoring imac from time capsule stuck at apple booting screen

    Hello,
I had an IMAC with hard drive that crashed. I installed a new internal HD.
Restored from time capsule. After 10 hours of restoring, it restarted.
Now it has been stuck at the Apple boot screen with the spinning wheel now for 3 hours.
Does it take that long? Anything wrong maybe.
    Thanks for all your help.

    Hello Brenden,
Thanks for the link. I have already tried everything in that kink but still getting the same issue.
One clarification if you can help me.
When I replaced my HD, I booted up using Mountain Lion CD.
I went to Disk Utility I paritioned the new drive.
I then went to System Restore and tried to restore from my time capsule a backup from Yosemite, Maverick and Snow Leopard
When imac restarted  i was getting messages that it cannot boot up..Same message over and over.
Therefore, I once again went in and booted up using Mountain Lion CD,
Went to Disk Utility and erased all contents of the whole drive. Clean.
This time I went ahead and ran the Mountain Lion Installer.
Imac restarted and booted fine to Mountain lion.
Did all updates and so forth.
Now went to Utilities folder and selected Migration Assistant and chose to restore once more.
Restored finished, and this time I am getting the issue I originally reported.
My question is, since I am running Mountain Lion, if the backup was made using Yosemite, just before my IMAC crashed,
is this the problem why it is stuck at Boot. Because i need to be running Snow Leopard at leat to upgrade to Yosemite.
However, how come none of my backup s can be restored , just by going straight to restore backup instead of installing some mac os x first.
    Thanks,

  • IMac Stuck at Grey boot screen - How do i recover files?

I bought one of the new 21.5 " intel imacs last year and upon powering it up today it just gets stuck on the grey screen with an apple logo. It has a bar which it loads up underneath in about 2 minutes but after that the little loading wheel animation spins for as long as i leave it.
I have quite a few files which i really want to recover so i was just wondering if there was any way to do so?.
I have tried installing from the disc but it says i cannot install on my hard drive.
Is there anything i can do?

If your hard disk has crashed (and I think it has) once you get it replaced simply restore from Time Machine or the other backup scheme you have been using. If you haven't been backing up you can request your old HD back and will have to pay a data recovery service to try and salvage any files.
This may be a painful lesson on why you should be backing up, now that Time Machine is as simple as connecting an external HD to your computer there really isn't any excuse to not backup.
You can run Apple Hardware Test following the instructions here. If you get errors post back what they are and we will try to let you know what they mean. You should also plan on taking your machine into an AASP to be serviced:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
You can also try a SMC reset however I don't know if it will help:

  • ThinkPad Boot Screen - T510

About 30% of the time when I start the computer it gets stuck at the ThinkPad Screen "To interrupt normal start up press blue button"
I have to shut down and restart the machine by pressing the power button, then things are fine. I am running Windows 7 64Bit.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Does setting "Boot Mode" to "Quick" have an impact? Not a solution per se, but may bypass the check that has an underlying problem, such as RAM. And does the RAM check out OK?
