T420s WWan Compatibility - H5321gw or not ?

Hi there,
I was looking through the parts lists for my T420s (4174-P4G) and noticed here :
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:show-categ...
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&DocID=PD024213
That the H5321gw clearly comes up as a part for the T420s
Is this a mistake or is this card in the whitelist in our BIOS ? As this card actually has proper Windows 8 drivers and I have one laying around, wondering if I should try putting it in or not.

Hey there DangerMouse,
I'm uncertain on where you are seeing support for the T420s on the links you've provided:

Looking in the parts manual I am able to find the following:
Ericsson Mobile Broadband Module F5521gw, with FRU Number: 60Y3279
The whitelist will require that not only the card be on there, but it is a Lenovo FRU. You are able to tell this best by ensuring the FRU number is listed physically on the card. I believe the card you are referencing can go into the T430s. Now of course, you can still give it a go and see if it'll work. If does not you'll get something like an 1803 error.(Not 100% on the error code.) But it will tell you to remove it.

  • T420 WWAN+Finger Print Reader not in device manager?!?

    Hi,
    Im new to lenevo and this is my first one..its a Lenevo T420 4236P3G. I have been advised by Lenevo support that my machine is WWAN compatible and has a Ericisson 3G card built it...I also know it has a fingerprint reader which is clearly on the machine.
    Problems I have
    1) The sim card slot behind the battery seems really odd!? I KNOW if I put my sim in there it will just be lost forever. There seems to be no "click" in and out mechanism..Iv tried with a dummy sim with a string attatched and it defo does not have a click to it...If I put a normal sim in it would just be stuck forever..
    2) I have a fingerprint reader and WWAN built in..BUT both of them do not appear in the device manager?! There are no devices which are unreconized and everything is accounted for so its defo not a driver problem...they just dont physically show!!
    Iv already updated the BIOS, used lenevo update, tried both Legacy and UEFI bios options in the bios...
    Only thing that it may be is my machine has a clean install of Windows 7 pro..Support have said they are sending me out copies of the original recover disks but I just dont see this working?!?I mean if they have disappeared and are not even picked up by the laptop in device manager then how will they run through a different install???
    Tried using google but been no help..hope someone here can give me a hand
    Thanks in advance

  • EliteBook 820 - Synaptics smbus touchpad buttons not working. Compatibility issue with Windows 7?

    Just bought a new HP EliteBook 820 G1, and because we have standardized on Windows 7 that's what we had installed at the factory, although I believe it was probably engineering for Windows 8, which I believe to be the source of my issue.  The Synaptics smbus touchpad mouse works, but the buttons do not work.  I have tried updating the drivers from Windows Updates, Synaptics, and HP websites, only to go have it not work, or tells me that I have the latest driver.  Is this a compatibility issue with the device and Windows 7, in which I am going to be required to upgrade the device to Windows 8 before I deploy it to the end-user?

    Hello @PinkPaper
    To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP EliteBook 820 G1 is a commercial product. You can do this here Notebook - HP ProBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE

  • T420 with Symantec ghost 11 is not working

    hi,
    I installed XP SP3 from scratch i sysprep'd the image and ghost it to network but when i try to ghost it back i get the error "error disk not found" like it can not read the MBR, now if i put it on older like T410 it works. For some reason it wont read a disk in T420
    I checked the BIOS and moved it to Legacy (UEFI) but it wont solve the problem
    any ideas? Is Syamntec even compatible?

    Ghost 11 does not support with the EFI/GPT setup on the newer Thinkpad and Thinkstation properly. Legacy mode doesn't solve that issue, at least, not for me. Ghost 11.5 (included in Ghost Solution Suite 2.5) does.
    I've been having other issues with Ghost 11.5 on a x220 though, as it won't recognize the Intel PRO 1000 network adapter, and since we're doing network deployments here, well that's a problem.
    If I were you, I'd wait before buying 11.5 until it's confirmed to work with your computer.

  • T420 - external 24" monitor DVI- Displayport : not detected when connected via KVM switch

    Hi,
    I've been using a 2port USB KVM Switch from InLine for a long time connecting a mac mini and a macbook pro
    to a 24" LCD. Recently I had to replace the MacBookPro with a T420. Unfortunately the T420 does not detect the
    monitor, when connected via the KVM switch.
    I tried:
    A) T420 -> Lenovo Displayport to DVI-Adapter -> KVM-Switch -> 24" monitor: NO SUCCESS
    B) T420 -> Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> KVM Seitch -> 24" monitor : NO SUCCESS
    C) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    D) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 VGA Port -> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    So I have a workaround, but leaving out the KVM switch is not a long term option.
    This is all on Win 7 professional / 64bit
    Using config (A) I then installed the Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2342 16 May 2011
    SURPRISE: during driver install, the monitor WAS detected!!!
    SECOND SURPRISE: after reboot I was back in the old situation where the monitor was NOT DETECTED
    CONCLUSION:
    Seems like a software issue with the Intel HD Graphice driver.
    ANY HINT/COMMENT/HELP highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Michael

    hey mgold,
    as the T420 works correctly with the external monitor and with the miniDock ; it is sad to say the the KVM switch is non-compatible.
    I would recommend that you get in contact with the manufacturer of the KVM. At the same time, try uninstalling the current video drivers of your T420 and see if it makes any difference with the KVM if the T420 is running on a generic driver

  • T420S Synaptics Memory Leak + Volume buttons not working

    As title says, I'm having big problems with a memory leak from the touchpad driver. I've updated to the latest driver, but it still happens. This morning, the process was using 6.5 GB of ram! This is ridiculous.
    2nd issue is with the volume controls on the keyboard. They only work 50% of the time. I've reinstalled the driver, but it still happens. I have to manually change the volume in windows for the buttons to start working.
    Anyone know any solutions to these problems? Thanks

    I would be interested in knowing which process was using 6.5 GB of RAM, and how you measured the memory usage. I'm not seeing this on my T420s
    It sounds like the problems with the volume buttons are related to this problem: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Some-control-keys-don-t-work/td-p/558657 and possibly this one: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T400-Brightness-cannot-be-changed-after-sta...
    It seems like, in recent years, several vexing and frustrating problems have been introduced into the programs in the Thinkvantage software suite which handle the onscreen displays and buttons. So far, Lenovo has ignored threads reporting these problems.

  • W520 Motherboard Replacement Compatibility

    I have a W520 with an i7 2760QM Quadro 1000m and the 4 RAM slots, a couple of weeks ago it died on me. Took it for a repair assessment - was told that the motherboard was dead and that the repair costs would be, for lack of a better word, obscene. Even the guy who ran the diagnostic had never seen a price quote come anywhere close to as high as what he found for mine. I could buy at least four refurbished W520s for the price of this one mobo.
    So I was thinking I might just grab a mobo online and do a DIY repair, except the specific part I was quoted on (FRU 04W2036) seems to be nigh-impossible to find. However there appears to be plenty of W520 mobos floating around with different FRUs (04W2040, 04W2024, 04W2035, etc etc etc) that AFAICT look identical. I took a glance around the forums and saw nothing regarding this specific mobo serial, so I'm wondering if any, or some, or only the specific FRU 04W2036 for my specific configuration of W520 could be used to make a repair. What's the difference between all these varieties of mobos? The only thing I can think of that would seriously seperate this specific mobo would be having 4 RAM slots instead of the typical 2, but if any of these would otherwise be compatible I'd be more than willing to sacrifice a couple of slots if it meant avoiding a repair job that costs more than the whole laptop did brand new three years ago.
    Solved!

    Good day.
    If you don't already have it, you might want to download your hardware manual:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t520_t520i_w520_hmm_en_0A60078_08.pdf
    Pages 135-137 show a number of W520 system boards, with some indicators of the differences, all of which appear to be permutations of: nVidia Quadro 1000M or 2000M, +/- AMT, +/- TPM and +/- RAID.
    FRU P/N 04W2036 is specified as: "Nvidia Quadro 1000 M, non-AMT, TPM, no RAID adapter".
    For reference:
    04W2040 differs only by having RAID.
    04W2035 differs by having the Quadro 2000 M, AMT and RAID, but no TPM.
    04W2024 is shown on page 134, but it's listed as being for the T520.
    Finally, using 04W2036 on the maintenance parts site:
    http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=pa...
    shows the part as in stock. You may wish to have a look and compare the price to what you've been quoted.
    Does this help?

  • Power adapters and worldwide compatibility - a lesson

    The standard fare today in power adapters is such that the brick itself is compatible around the world. Indeed, the input power on a Lenovo AC adapter is rated from 100-240V and 50 or 60Hz - capable of operating on any power standard. The only catch is of course the wall plug in various countries. Again, most adapters have a removable adapter-to-wall power cord and if the manufacturer has a worldwide presence, you can likely order a country-specific power cord. Lenovo is such a company and you can find power cords for most geographies, like here. I'm preparing for a trip to New Zealand, my first out of the country, and wanted to be prepared to have my lifeline (aka ThinkPad) ready for the new locale. I looked up the power cord FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) number, called up IBM parts to verify availability, and placed the order. I was also delivering a new T61 to my mother-in-law and the U.S. power cord would be a burden down there. At $2.80 each plus a flat shipping fee, it was a no-brainer.
    Australia/NZ Cord
    As a side note, I ordered the adapters Monday night and they arrived Tuesday morning
    I open the box to find a goofy-looking wall-plug (no offense... ) and what's this - a three-prong adapter-plug???
    Australia/NZ plug
    It looks a heckuva lot like the old T4x 16V power adapters and I figured I got the wrong FRU, dangit! After having gloated to Matt Kohut, our resident globetrotter, about my adapter-ordering-savvy, I mentioned in passing my situation. No sooner did my lips stop flapping did Matt whisk me away to a seemingly endless drawer in his desk, filled with dozens of black rectangles. Out of it came a seemingly normal looking 65W adapter.
    Two very similar power adapters
    Do you see a difference in the two adapters? I didn't at first either. Ah, there it is -
    U.S. adapter vs ANZ adapter
    It turns out that some countries still require an extra grounding wire in AC adapters and do the three-prong plug must be used. There I was thinking in my smugness that I could get away with a new power cord alone, not so!
    I hope this helps anyone shopping for power adapters or cords soon. Thanks to Mr. Kohut I have a couple power adapters perfect for my mother-in-law's new T61, so she can compute around New Zealand without needing a silly plug adapter like us Yankees will use down there.
    For reference, here are the part numbers in question:
    2-prong 65W AC adapter: 92P1214
    3-prong 65W AC adapter: 92P1153

    They are different because the two notebooks use a different power system. Your R51 uses the old 16V adapters and the T60 uses the newer 20V versions. Starting with the Z60 series, it was decided to upgrade our power delivery capabilities to meet the ever-increasing power demands of mobile computing.

  • CVI 2009 vs. 2010: compatibility to Excel

    Hello all,
    I have created an application in CVI2009SP1 that exports its data to an Excel file using Excel2000 instrument driver shipped with CVI. All works well if the application is compiled and run on a WinXP machine but when run on a Win7 machine the customer complains to receive a strange error while opening the generated files:
    The message basically means "The format of the file you want to open does not correspond to the type declared in its extension"
    Pressing Ok will open the file regularly but I wonder what this error means and how to put it away.
    I tested this situation in Excel 2007 and 2010, both starter and full edition: despite the error the files open regularly. On the other hand, the generated file cannot be opened in Word2000 due to a more severe "format not recognized" error.
    I tried compiling the executable in CVI 2010 and I receive no error even if the Excel instrument is still declared as "Microsoft Excel 9.0 object library" the same as it is in 2009; nevertheless the object file associated to the instrument is newer than the 2009 version (June 30, 2010 for the library shipped with CVI2009; June 22, 2011 for the 2010 one).
    I would prefer not to distribute a release compiled in 2010 as the application drives a high power equipment for research on prototypes and I cannot test it in real environment, so I tried simply to substitute CVI2009 version of the Excel interface library with the CVI2010 one and the program compiles and executes without errors.
    So questions are:
    Q1. Any clue as to what that error means?
    Q2. Is it safe to upgrade the Excel library in CVI2009?
    Q3. Any possibility to maintain compatibility to older versions of Excel?
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

    If I have helped you, why not giving me a kudos?

    Hi,
    I diffed the source codes and they are effectively identical, while the libraries are slightly different in size (some 10 bytes) and creation date. I don't know if checking the object for differences makes sense. I haven't modified that instrument in any way.
    I'll try to send to the customer a program release compiled in CVI2009 with 2010 library and see what happens: unfortunately I don't have in my office the exact copy of the target machine (Win7Pro + Office2010) to check it on.
    To write the file I use the following:
    errChk (CA_VariantSetCString(&MyVariant, <file pathname>));
    errChk (Excel_WorkbookSaveAs (ExcelWorkbookHandle, NULL, MyVariant,
    CA_DEFAULT_VAL, CA_DEFAULT_VAL,
    CA_DEFAULT_VAL, CA_DEFAULT_VAL,
    CA_DEFAULT_VAL, ExcelConst_xlNoChange,
    CA_DEFAULT_VAL, CA_DEFAULT_VAL,
    CA_DEFAULT_VAL, CA_DEFAULT_VAL));
    While examining my code now I noted something I didn't remember: when moving data to Excel I try to get the decimal point formatting code used in the system and apply it to the data in Excel worksheet, using this code:
    // Read decimal separator from the registry
    strcpy (msg, "Control Panel");
    MakePathname (msg, "International", msg);
    RegReadString (REGKEY_HKCU, msg, "sDecimal", a, 512, &i);
    // Select some columns to format
    sprintf (msg, "D2:H%d", cnt + 1);
    errChk (CA_VariantSetCString (&MyVariant, msg));
    if (ExcelRangeHandle) errChk (ClearObjHandle (&ExcelRangeHandle));
    errChk (Excel_WorksheetRange (ExcelWorksheetHandle, NULL, MyVariant, CA_DEFAULT_VAL, &ExcelRangeHandle));
    errChk (Excel_RangeActivate (ExcelRangeHandle, &ErrorInfo, NULL));
    // Apply the proper format
    sprintf (msg, "#0%s0", a);
    errChk (CA_VariantSetCString (&MyVariant, msg));
    errChk (Excel_SetProperty (ExcelRangeHandle, &ErrorInfo, Excel_RangeNumberFormat, CAVT_VARIANT, MyVariant));
    I wonder if this code can cause any problem when executed on a Win7 machine?
    Coming to your last question, I am using excel2000 instrument driver with the code above. Situation is as follows:
    - When execute on a WinXPPro machine with Excel2000 I can create files without problems. Files created can be viewed in Excel2007 full and Excel 2010 starter without errors nor warnings
    - Files created by the application running in a Win7 box can be opened in Excel 2010 with the warning I posted. They can't be opened in Excel2000: I receive the error "This file is not in a recognizable format" and if I follow on I see binary code in the worksheet
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Palm Pre 2 Unlocked Compatibility With AT&T

    Hi,
    This information is probably on the site somewhere but I didn't see it.
    Is the new unlocked GSM Palm Pre 2 fully compatible with the AT&T network? Can it use AT&T 3G?
    Is it also fully compatible with T-Mobile? Can it use T-Mobile's 4G network as well (with the appropriate SIM card)?
    Thanks,

    Post relates to: Pre Plus p100una (AT&T)

    Hello!
    1.  Is the new unlocked GSM Palm Pre 2 fully compatible with the AT&T network? Can it use AT&T 3G?
    Answer:  Yes the Palm Pre2 is fully compatible and can use 3G speeds.
    2.  Is it also fully compatible with T-Mobile? Can it use T-Mobile's 4G network as well (with the appropriate SIM card)?
    Answer:  No.  You will get voice, text, and 2.5G (EDGE) data through T-Mobile on the Pre2 just fine but not 3G.  T-Mobile uses 1700mhz and 2100mhz bands for 3G while all other carriers in North America uses 850mhz and 1900mhz.  The Palm Pre 2 for North America uses 850 and 1900 bands for 3G.

  • Titan Z GPU Compatibility with a D20

    I have a D20 4155 with and Xeon X5687 single processor and 12 MB RAM.  I currently have a Quadro 4000 Video Card installed.  I create flow simulations that are extremely math intensive and can take days to complete relying only on the CPU.
    I am looking into a new software that utilizes the processing power of the GPU but they do not recommend the Quadro 4000 and therefore they do not support it.   The only ones they will support are Nvidia Tesla K40, Nvidia Tesla K80, GeForce GTX Titan Black and GeForce GTX Titan Z.
    The GeForce GTX TITAN Z is in my price range and the one I would like to use.
    My main question is will my D20 system handle this work horse of a GPU?
    2nd question is can I install it along side of the Quatro 4000 which I use for my dual monitors and just use the Titan Z for the computations.
    Thank you for any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    welcome to the forum
    with a TDP of 375W, i don't see a reliable way to provide enough power to a titan Z in the D20 while running alongside a Q4000 and an X5687.   you're likely going to exceed one of the power rails with this combo.   on top of that, nvidia doesn't support mixing quadro and geforce cards in the same system so this would be uncharted territory from both a driver conflict and reliability standpoint.
    conversely, the K40 has a 235W TDP and should work in the D20 with the caveat that it's not been tested or qualified in the D20.   the other catch here is that nvidia also doesn't officially support mixing quadro and kepler cards, although these have a far greater chance of interoperability than geforce and quadro since driver families aren't being mixed.
    my vote would be on the K40, keeping in mind that you might want to consider a kepler-based card as your display card to replace the Q4000.   for this i would suggest a K2000 or K200D since it performs on-level with the Q4000 and frees up a PCIe power drop to use with the K40.
    there's no way i'd recommend the titan Z in your system whatsoever.

  • Vision 8.0 / Vision 7.0 Compatibility

    I've recently developt softwares in LV8 + Vision 8.
    I've tried to deploy these in a computer which contains LV7 + Vision RTE 7.1 and other applications full made in 7.1.
    I installed the LV 8 RTE and replaced the Dll NiVIsion 7.1 by 8 to ensure the compatibility as i've already the Vision RTE 7.1 installed on the target PC.
    My report :
    - the new programs work fine in a Vision 7.1 environment even if developt these in 8 with the provisio of not using specific funcions of Vision 8 like "'adaptative threshold".
    - New programs fail if i use specific function of Vision - that's normal - i read a "Unlicence Ni Vision" message - thus i setup the Vision RTE 8.0
    which deploy the license manager. My new program work, i can use the 'Niblack Threshold' but unfortunately, with the license manager all my old programs developt in Vision 7.1 fail.
    Which is the solution to make coexist programs written and deployed in Vision 7.1 and Vision 8 ?
    2 separate PC should be considered ?

  • CVI 8.0 NI-DAQmx 8.9.5 compatibility?

    New laptop, installed CVI 8.0.1 then NI-DAQmx 8.9.5 that came with USB-6211 DAQ. Device runs fine using MAX.
    When selecting CVI Tools/Create/Edit DAQmx Tasks... a pop message says "This feature requires NI-DAQmx. Please Install NI-DAQ from the NI Device Drivers CD or check your installation."
    NI-DAQmx does appear in the libraries however.
    The example program Acq-IntClk compiled, but a couple error message appear when the application is run:
    "procedure entry point SetEnableResourceTracking could not be located in cvirte.dll"
    "failed to load nicvidu.dll, Check your installation"
    If I continue through the errors, the application does seem to work.
    Any obvious compatibility or installation issues here?

  • Windows 8.1 Compatibility with Printers

    So, I have a Surface RT and have a HP Inkjet Printer J6450. Every since I bought this tablet, my printer always said that it was not compatible with this version of windows. I went to hp.com located my printer and selected windows 8.1 from the drop down menu to download and install, whatever it needs to do, but nothing happened.
    I have the printer in my devices list because of wi-fi  but it keeps saying not compatible.
    HELP!

    Hi tyler_rose, welcome to the HP Forums. You are correct that your J6450 is not compatible with Windows RT. Windows 8.1 is a different operating system.
