T420si??

Hi,
I have just received my new T420s, specs seems right, part number seems right, but it says T420si on the machine. Does anyone know the distinction? Or is it just how they name lower end models?
Solved!

That just says that your T420s comes with a i3. Thats all.

    Hey,
I've been using UR for quite some time and it's working great for me with SCCM etc.,
the organization I work for had began purchasing X230 family laptops (Type 2325),
I'm missing some drivers from Update Retriever that are available on the support website,
I'm searching for type 2325 language English OS Windows 7
    these are:
ThinkPad Bluetooth g4wb10ww (Version 6.5.1.2700)  (appears as BCM... In device manager)
RapidBoot Shield 32/64 (both appear on UR but fails to download while all other drivers successfully download from UR)
USB3.0 Appears but doesn't seem to get installed (it appears In candidate list log of thininstaller),
then I read that on the RapidBoot shield update notes that usb 3.0 needs rapidboot drivers v1.23 (which doesn't appear on  the new driver releases page:

Sorry for these issues, the updates team is still working on getting all the updates published for the new systems like X230...
Bluetooth should be there starting from today.
I recommend not installing RapidBoot Shield unless you have personally tested it and determined that it makes your image boot faster and doesn't cause side-effects.
Intel USB 3.0 has a wrong dependency on RapidBoot Shield, the team is working on removing the dependency.  If you are using ThinInstaller you may be able to figure out how to remove the dependency from the XML file yourself...

  • Does UEFI exist on Lenovo T61P running Windows 8.1?

Just installed Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo T61P and running great after fixing wi-fi issue. Need to know how to boot from CD in this new operating system, as BIOS is still same as from XP days. I have read I have to change from UEIF mode to Legacy mode but don't know where it is, it it even exists, or what. This is important as I am setting up rescue boot CD's to recover backups. I can only get into the BIOS Setup Utility screen. See no options for setting to legacy anywhere. Please help as I need to boot from CD to test out emergency options. Has to be a way I would think as I believe Windows 8.1 automatically puts this boot mode in UIFE but I have no issues with security and would like to keep this off if possible.
I have tried also to go in via the options route after stariting Windows. When I get to the screen that gives the option to do this, that option is missing. I read that "Lenovo preloaded Windows 8/8.1 is set up  with UEFI boot. If your computer is not fitted with UEFI boot, you can only enter BIOS setup or UEFI firmware via the traditional method."
    Last updated 26 Mar 2014.
Are there any downloads that will install this? Am I stuck in UEFI mode or what? Please comment. Am I in Legacy mode? How do I find out?
Is the Bios Update Utility for Windows 8 etc released 8/4/2013 the fix for this?  Is this an installed feature or one that can only be run off a boot CD or USB? Looks like it only supports T420s and T420si. Sorry. need on for T61P.
    Edit to say;
    Forgot to add this info.
    Bios vers.   2.3  (7LETDOWW)
    Bios date 2012-02-27
CPU Type  Intel Core 2 Duo CPU  T9300
    CPU Speed    2.5GHz
I did not know the BIOS checked out so new, as it must have been updated on my last warranted repair for this system. Is their an updated file that adds this UIFE to Legacy option in to some type of system setup screen on boot?
thanks and need help soon while I have time to do this.

    Hi,
Your T61p BIOS is pre-UEFI.  The Win 8 install couldn't have changed that.  You don't need to change anything.
To boot a CD, hit the power button and start tapping F12.  That should bring up the boot menu.  Select the CD.

  • Lenovo T420 - Batteries

I've just bought a refurbished Lenovo T420. The specs include an Intel i5- 2520m processor, 2.50GHZ CPU, 8GB of RAM and 500GB HDD.
The reviews I've read are excellent, but they all praise the battery life of the 9 celled T420 (10 hours battery life, hard to beat etc.), but the T420 I've bought is 6 celled - Can anyone tell me what the battery life of the 6 celled T420 is?
Also, whether the 6 celled battery is interchangeable with a 9 celled variant if I wanted to purchase one in the future (and which 9 celled batter to purchase).
    Thank you for reading.

Hi there, all T420 and T420i laptops use the same type battery. (T420s and T420si models use a different battery). You simply need to look for battery "70++" which is the 9-cell version for your T420. (70+ is the 6-cell version). Useful battery guide provided by Lenovo here:
Batteries and Battery Charger - Reference Guide
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-4TCMN7
When shopping for batteries it's best to get a Genuine Lenovo battery whenever possible. The after-market, replacement batteries are often of inferior quality, and often not held to the same safety standards during the manufacturing process as the O.E.M. batteries. They may even cause your laptop to overheat, or behave erratically. T420 system service parts has a few FRU P/N (part numbers) for the 9-cell battery but is a bit outdated in listing "55++" model numbers. While "55++" batteries will fit, they have been superseded/ replaced by the more newly manufactured "70++" batteries. See my post here for a slight elaboration on that: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Battery-failed-with-99-capacity/m-p/1614594...
So just look for a Genuine Lenovo battery with the "70++" red dot logo and you will be OK.  Some unscrupulous Hong Kong or Chinese vendors regularly counterfeit/ sell "knock-off" (fake) batteries even using the Lenovo logo so be careful. Here is a picture of a New, Genuine 70++ battery I recently shipped to a customer:
Have a great day. (I do not work for Lenovo)

  • T420s keyboard flex

    Hey,
Sorry about questions about my newly arrived T420si but I have another quick question: There is some minor keyboard flex  at the upper right corner around backspace and especially delete keys. Is this normal? I know all crappy laptops have keyboard flex, some too horrific degrees and this minor does not bother me at all, but I am worried that this is a sign of a bigger thing. Anything ideas??

    Hello elalemever
The flex could be minor however, I would suggest you to get it check once. It may require the keyboard replacement.

  • T420 - delete key gets pressed when screen/lid is closed

    Anyone run into this?
I work at a large company and so far we have recieved a bunch of laptops where the delete key gets pressed if the lid is closed.
I have tried replacing the KB but issue persists.
Upon closer investigation, the DEL key does seem a bit raised when compared to other keys on the KB.

    ColonelONeill wrote:
Strange, the DEL key is level for me.
Have you updated your BIOS and drivers? I believe there was a change made where the keyboard will be deactivated when the lid is closed.
Problem: On the listed ThinkPad systems, the delete key might be pressed and activated when the LCD is closed and the system is held tightly when carried..
    Affected Systems: ThinkPad T420, T420i, T420s, T520, W520, X220, X220t.
Solution: Please update the BIOS to the version listed below, or newer. The BIOS can be downloaded from:
    T420/T420 (ver. 1.33): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77071 .
    T420s/T420si (ver. 1.29): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77010
    T520/T520i (ver. 1.32): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77001
    W520 (ver. 1.30): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77033
    X220/X220i/X220T (ver. 1.22) http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77150:
As noted previsouly in another post, if the wireless antenna wires are not routed neatly underneath, the keyboard will stick up just enough for the screen to press on those keys.

I don't blame you. If you've been able to get the Gobi 2000 card to work with the stock BIOS, and if you're already going to buy a newer Ericsson card, then it won't hurt anything if you try it  before flashing (it'll just cost you an additional disassembly/assembly of the machine).
    And if you look here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018764
that page lists a driver for the Ericsson F5521gw/F3607gw, and if you search for "W500" on that page you'll see:
    Version <6.4.1.6> (83Wo13WW)
(New) Added support for ThinkPad Edge E425,E525.
    [Important]
End of support for Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Composite Device.
Note: It is supported with the previous version, 6.3.3.6 (83Wo12WW). (Click here for 83wo12ww README.)
    [Important]
End of support for the following ThinkPad models.
    ThinkPad L410,L510
    ThinkPad SL300,SL400,SL400c,SL410,SL500,SL500c,SL510
    ThinkPad T400,T400s,T500
    ThinkPad W500
    ThinkPad X200,X200s,X200 Tablet,X301
Note: They are supported with the previous version, 6.3.3.6 (83Wo12WW). (Click here for 83wo12ww README.)
And that last link contains a readme file that says:
Software name Ericsson F5521gw/F3607gw/F3507g Wireless WAN Driver
    Support models ThinkPad L410, L420, L421
      ThinkPad L510, L520
      ThinkPad SL300
      ThinkPad SL400, SL400c, SL410
      ThinkPad SL500, SL500c, SL510
      ThinkPad T400, T400s, T420, T420i, T420s, T420si
      ThinkPad T500, T520, T520i
      ThinkPad W500, W520
      ThinkPad X1
      ThinkPad X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X220, X220i, X220 Tablet,
      X220i Tablet
      ThinkPad X301
      ThinkPad Edge E220s
      ThinkPad Edge E420, E420s
      ThinkPad Edge E520
So that means you'd have a driver for the Ericsson F5521gw/F3607gw/F3507g that is designed to run on the W500. All that means is that two or more models of computers used the same driver for their own specific model of WWAN card. And that those WWAN cards are somewhat related. That's as close as I can get you to what you want. And if I search for F5521gw on the Thinkwiki.org site, I see that the F5521gw was available on a number of XX20-series machines.
    Good luck!

  • Drive Erase Utility for the Resetting the Cryptographic Key for T500?

    Hi,
I have to reset the Cryptographic Key, so i found the Tool "Drive Erase Utility for the Resetting the Cryptographic Key and the Erasing the Solid State Drive - ThinkPad LINK.
Now i am very disappointed because id doesn't work with the T500.
Is there another Tool i can use?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It doesn't work on T500 because that link is only for the new systems, according to the text on that webpage you linked:
    Edge E120, Edge E125, Edge E220s, Edge E320, Edge E325
    Edge E420, Edge E420s, Edge E425, Edge E520, Edge E525
    T420, T420i, T420s, T420si, T520, T520i
    W520
    X1, X120e, X121e
    X220, X220i, X220 Tablet, X220i Tablet
To get the version you need for T500, you have to look in the T500-specific driver matrix or support download page.
