Hi in forum.

- if no device in ultrabay the notebook work perfect
- if any device in ultrabay (dvd writer or accumulator) an error is present
  a) when i remove the ultrabay device and reinstall again the device not work (in "my computer" and device manager not look this)
  b) when i resume after hibernate the notebook hibernate again and after the next power on work perfect
  c) when i resume after standby the notebook standby again and after the next power on work perfect
if i boot normally and dvd writen inserted, the drive work perfect.
The xp pro fresh install, i install 2 times first recovery partition and create original factory state, then oem xp pro cd and lenovo system update. After system update i install modem, bluetooth, power manager and active protection system.
Any idea?

If you have Windows XP Installation Disc and have a problem with Rescue and Recovery, call Lenovo and ask for new Recovery disc. Or you can use your whole Hard drive spaces by removing all the partitions in the XP Installation process, and reinstall your Windows.
I used Partition Magic and did that.  It worked somewhat.  The whole hard drive is called IBM_SERVICE.  I still can't get rid of it.  I think it's part of the Rescue and Recovery program and there might be some stuff written in master_boot.  Does this mean now that I don't have a "hidden" backup drive now like before?

  • T43 2668 screen gone all dark HELP

    I've got a Thinkpad T43 2668.
    The problem I have is that the screen has gone all dark, if I look real close I can see the desktop and all the icons but it is not backlit.
    I have hooked up to an external monitor and all working fine.
    I have read sooooo many people saying it's this and it's that.
    Either an invertor or a CCFL but how do I know which one?
    Also how hard are they both to fit?
    Or would it be easier to buy a complete lid and screen of ebay etc.
    Trouble is my Thinkpad is in as new cosmetic condition so dont really want to pay for a screen only to find that although it works it seen a bit of wear etc.
    Many thanks for any help in advance

    did your LCD have a pinkish hue before this problem occurred?
    Most likely you have a CCFL backlight problem rather than the inverter. Replacing CCFL is not easily done, and it would be much easier to get a new LCD.
    here is the hardware manual to show you how to replace the LCD or any other parts on the laptop.

  • Suspend / Resume problem with -ck kernels.

    Sometimes with the linux-ck kernel my laptop doesn't suspend / resume correctly.
    Sometimes when suspending my laptop will take "extra long" to suspend.
    When it resumes the processor & fan will turn on, but the suspend light will still be blinking and the screen doesn't turn on.  Sometimes (but not always) the caps-lock light will start blinking after I try to wake it up, like a kernel panic. It happens more often when closing the lid to suspend, but has happened while suspending manually.
    This only happens with -ck kernels. I have tried both the linux-ck and linux-ck-corex kernels with same result. This started happening around kernel 3.0.8 I believe. I thought it was a bug that would be fixed, but it still occurs.
    I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T410s,  Intel Core i5, Intel graphics. I use the TLP scripts for power savings, and Xfce-Power-Manager for my power manager. I can see nothing relevant in the logs. Suspend / Resume always works with the "official" kernel.
    Any ideas?

    Ok, I think I narrowed the problem down to the BFS scheduler.
    I compiled "linux-bfs" from the AUR, installed it and rebooted and lo and behold my suspend / resume problem was back. Rebooted with the stock kernel, did about 10 suspend & resume cycles in a row... and it worked great each time.
    Sometimes when using linux-bfs or linux-ck, I can "revive" the system after a bad resume, by closing the lid and opening it slowly. Also I know the screen is just not "off", because the caps lock key light will not respond. If the caps-lock key light starts blinking (on-and-off) after a resume, I assume it is a kernel panic, and nothing besides a forced power-off will fix it.

  • IPhone/iTouch 2.0 software music, vid and photo resume problem

    Hi all,
    Not sure whether anyone else is getting the same problem or not but I seem to have problems resuming after I installed the 2.0 software upgrade.
    For example if I am listening to music and I watch a video then return to listening music, the music does not resume from the last one I was playing. Instead it just goes back to my Song List. And same in reverse. If I was watching a movie halfway and then go back to the video list all it shows is the top of the list. In the old 1.1.4 software it used to go back to the same position on the list as I was previously at.
    This issue also happens with Photos. For example if I was viewing a picture in the Photos page and then go to another option such as Music, Video etc. When I return to the Photo page all it does is go back to my Albums and not the last picture I was viewing.
    This issue never happened with the old software and it is really frustrating when I watch a video and then try to listen the previous song I listened to but instead it just goes back to the default page.
    I have just played around with it and it seems ok when I try to view photos when I am listening to music. When I go back to the music it still resumes from the current song I am listening to.
    But it still does not do it when I listen to music, then watch video. Like I said, it just goes back to the Song List which means that I have to search again for the song that I was last playing and play that. And that also means that I have to start my playlist again from the start and it reshuffles again.
    Is this how it's meant to be from now on? Or just a bug?
    Please fix this as this is a really annoying problem when I try to resume the previous song I am listening to.
    Thanks.

    I'm also having this problem
    I believe that it should behave this way - the "remember playback position" should be enabled by default and then removed if necessary.
    Why would they disable this feature? it doesn't make sense, for any reason.
    It can't be a resources issue - it's not really a multi-tasking device.
    "remember playback position".. did NOT fix the problem - music still wont resume "where left off" even though i have selected the "remember playback position"..
    it just plays the tracks that have already been played, and then skipped, from the position they were at before they were skipped - which is how THAT feature is meant to work.
    so.. no, this is not the way the Touch is meant to work - they broke it with the
    2.1 update - otherwise why would it have functioned that way up until the update?? Please restore this function?!
    If you're watching these forums, Apple Support People - please include this as a bug report?? there doesn't seem to be a way to submit bug reports for iPods, only for iTunes itself - which doesn't make sense.. a 'free' product gets support and feedback options, whereas a product i have paid good money for does not!!

  • Java Thread suspend and resume problem

    Hi,
    I am trying to write a program to implement thread suspend and resume using wait() and notify without using the deprecated methods like resume and suspend.
    I have written the following program which compiles but when I run it hangs without terminating. There seems to be some logic error but I am not able to catch it.
    Please help
    public class TestSuspendResume {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        MyThread m1= new MyThread("--One-- ");
        MyThread m2= new MyThread("--Two-- ");
        m1.suspendMe();
        try {
          Thread.sleep(1500);
          m1.t.join();
          m2.t.join();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
        m1.resumeMe();
        System.out.println("Now : end main thread");
    class MyThread implements Runnable {
      boolean suspend = false;
      Thread t;
      MyThread(String name) {
        t = new Thread(this,name);
        t.start();
      void resumeMe() {
        suspend = false;
        notify();
      void suspendMe() {
        suspend = true;
      public void run() {
        try {
          for(int i=0;i<20;i++) {
            System.out.println("Now : "+Thread.currentThread().getName()+i);
            Thread.sleep(200);
            synchronized(this) {
              while(suspend)
                wait();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
    }

    Thanks for that response. I figured out that was the problem in the logic. I have modified the code to make it simpler but it is still hanging.
    public class TestSuspendResume {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        MyThread m1= new MyThread("--One-- ");
        try {
          m1.suspendMe();
          Thread.sleep(1000);
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
        try {
          m1.resumeMe();
        } catch(Exception e) {
          System.out.println("ASASAS");
          e.printStackTrace();
        try {
          m1.t.join();
        } catch(InterruptedException e) {
          System.out.println("WOWOW");
          e.printStackTrace();
        System.out.println("Now : end main thread");
    class MyThread implements Runnable {
      boolean suspend = false;
      Thread t;
      MyThread(String name) {
        t = new Thread(this,name);
        t.start();
      void resumeMe() {
        if(suspend==true) {
          suspend = false;
          notify();
      void suspendMe() {
        suspend = true;
      public void run() {
        try {
          for(int i=0;i<20;i++) {
            System.out.println("Now : "+Thread.currentThread().getName()+i);
            Thread.sleep(200);

  • Kernel 2.6.17.beyond3-1 resume problem

    I just upgraded to kernel 2.6.17.beyond3-1, and hibernation is finally working again (as in the laptop hibernates without crashing). The problem now is that when I start the computer back up, instead of resuming it goes into the usual boot sequence (even though it says that hook [resume] is run). When the system has loaded up, the swap partition is not enabled, moreover running swapon doesn't turn it on (I first have to run makeswap).
    Any ideas or suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thanks.

    Yeah, I have the same setup I was using before the suspend breakage in beyond2; my resume2=swap:/dev/vg0/swap (which did work fine). I haven't had time to investigate, but I'm *guessing* it may be that it's not activating the LVM until after it looks for the suspend image. Of course, the simple solution would be not to run swap-on-LVM (which would also have speed benefits, I think). But, I don't really have time to be running around reconfiguring my HD layout atm, and resume from swap-on-LVM did work, and should work again. I'll try to get more details later.

  • Need BIOS Live Update Doesn't Work!!!! + S3 Sleep Resume Problem

    Most frustrating.  Live Update doesn't work and can't find download link for a new BIOS.
    My System:
    MSI P6NGM-FHI (1.1)
    E8200 Core 2
    MSI Geforce 6600 128M
    Vista 64
    Seagate 250g x 2 Raid 0
    Want to update Bios to see if it will fix sleep problem
    My system enters S3 sleep.  But doesn't wake up.  Fans start up but screen remains black.  I have to unplug for some time to reboot.
    I want to try new 1.2 bios to see if it will fix my problem.  But can't find BIOS file anywhere.  Most frustrating...
    And that stupid Live Update doesn't work!!!!!

    -  Update CPU Micro Code.
    -  Update NVMM version.
    -  Fixed system cannot resume from S3 with E6xx series CPU.
    If its BIOS related you will need a future version, since you have E8xx
    Have a ask MSI here: http://ocss.msi.com.tw/
    What OS you are running?
    Have you tried latest VGA drivers?
    How is configured Recall VGA from S3 in BIOS?

  • Sleep Resume Problems

    After I updated the firmware on my MacBook Pro today (2.2GHz i7 17") I am seeming to have a new problem.
    Whenever I plug my computer into my Cinema Display (with the computer closed) it won't wake up fully. The status light will come on, any external hard drives will spin up, but the display won't turn on and the computer will go back to sleep.
    I have to restart the computer manually to get it to work normally, and if I disconnect it while it's between the sleep and wake mode and try to open it, the backlight will come on but the screen will remain black, causing me to have to force restart it.
    This is in addition to my first problem with the backlit keyboard not coming on automatically after sleep, which was temporarily fixed by resetting the SMC, but it goes back to the problem after a week or so.
    What could be causing either of these problems? Could it have something to do with BootCamp since I have it installed, or is there a defect?
    I would bring it back to Apple, but there's a small dent in the front right corner, and I'm afraid they would deny any problem I h

    I am having the same problem since the latest updates.  Dell U3011 and 2011 17" MBP 2.3ghz.  Never such problem before the updates.

  • Trouble installing XP on Windows 2000 Thinkpad T43

     I am trying to load XP pro, on a Thinkpad T43(2668).   It was previously on this system. Currently the system has windows 2000 pro. When installing XP disc, the disc will not load. The bios is set load CD priority. I tried formatting, and deleting, and recreating the active partition, in Windows 2000 recovery.  Also tried installing Xp pro disk, on clean system (no OS). Nothing works, CD, installation stalls and we get error messages
      Error messages: i386/vga.oem, i386/ntkrnlmp.exe , blank screen, inf file txtesetup.sif corrupt or missing, are all errors I have gotten.  Different error messages with each attempt at installation.   Also have gotten “At: press any key to boot from CD”, no response.
    I ran a RAM test on this system for 12 hours, and there are no errors.
    This XP pro CD loads in other PC’s, no problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    You're looking at a bad media drive, or a bad disk itself, regardless of the fact that it loads on other units it may still be partially defective.
    Try borrowing another media drive or using an USB CD-ROM to load the OS.
    Good luck.

  • T43 lost USB and freezes

    Hi there,
    My T43 2668-46U running XP SP3 all of the sudden lost USB's and starts freezing.
    For some reason after no problem of 4 years working period a week ago I lost power in all two USB.
    Dafter a few days the system after working for around 15 minutes freezes.
    I found strange that when I push down a little a touched area it start running but after a few seconds stop again.
    I did all (software tool) checks available from Lenovo and results do not show any problems.
    Everything is fine in Device Manager - no problems with USB shown.
    No more clue what to do.
    Any help and suggestion welcome.

    The SouthBridge chip is connected to the rest of the board by hundreds of tiny solder balls. As a result of a number of heating/cooling cycles, the connection breaks. Re-balling is done by removing the chip, replacing the balls and exposing them to a proper attachment process. This is not a DIY procedure.
    Any T43/p board will work in any T43/p shell. There is one limitation: machines with Intel graphics (model numbers starting in 187x) can't drive a 14" SXGA+ LCD so you'd need a board with ATi X300 graphics chip. Everything else is plug and play.
    Good luck.

    I have an aftermarket, Western Digital 320 GB harddrive installed on my T43 (2668).  Every now and then it will display a "No operating system found" message.  After some random number of restart attempts, it will work, and firefox will even remember the tabs I had open.  It will display the 2010 error, but that is not a problem.  Does anyone know how to fix/avoid this?
