T43 2687-d3u bsod determined to be short in bridge connecting hdd to mobo now what?

Greetings,
So I got the BSOD. Initially thought my hdd died. Purchased a new hdd, still no luck. Determined that the bridge connecting the hdd to the motherboard is loose, presumably from holding the laptop with only 1 hand on the right side of the mouse pad. Now trying to determine my cheapest option. 1 suggestion was to boot off of a external hard drive, but then I loose the portability or make it far more cumbersome.  Another suggestion was to replace the motherboard. Does anyone know if the motherboard in a 15.1inch is the same size and the motherboard in my 14.1inch? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ryan

or you can use the ultrabay as your main hdd compartment, with a ultrabay slim hdd adapter.

  • After reinstall, T43 2687-D3U (XP) not recognizing anything...

I saw another post that suggested installing the wireless driver, .NET, then installing the ThinkVantage stuff, but I can't get the wireless driver(s) to work.  I have tried this one 6mwc15ww.exe & 7ywc54ww.exe.  Neither appear to work either by running their respective installers or by updating the driver from hw mgr and pointing to the extracted folder.
Of note, I had to replace the HDD in the machine with a non-IBM one, but it still works (installed just fine, and boots fine), despite the "2010" BIOS error.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!  If this was covered in another thread, my apologies, but I couldn't find it for this system model & type...

    Welcome to the forum!
Downloading the driver (the first one is the correct one) is just the first part of the process. Now you have to go into C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup file from there.
    Hope this helps.

  • BSOD's on my x64 K8N Neo4 Platinum based PC, Any ideas what's wrong? Help!

Over the past few month I've been getting BSOD's. There is no real pattern to their occurence and it's not something which is constantly happening (It happened around 5 times in the past 2 months), but I've really grown to hate them. You see, after getting one what has happened in the past is that when I go to restart my pc after getting a BSOD, I find I need to re-install my whole OS! What happens is that after booting (which oddly enough doesn't work well after a BSOD, It freezes on the boot screen and I need to restart several times), a black screen appears telling me that certain files in the C:Windows\ direcotory are corrupt or missing.
So the real problem is that the BSOD's cause me to re-install my whole OS. One will happen, then it will be ok, I turn the system on, log into windows, then it might happen again, after which I'll need to re-install. The files that go missing are always different too, and when I run scan-disk (after plugging in my main drive into another computer) it finds corrupt files and deletes them.
At first I thought it was Azureus (p2p client) which was causing the problems because it seemed to happen when I was runing that. I stopped using it, and the BSOD's still occured...sometimes randomly when browsing...etc. I figured that since files got deleted and corrpupted, it must be a problem withthe Hard Drive....So I bought a new one, and I've still had the BSOD error (although files haven't been deleted yet).
So yeah, I really need to solve this problem as it is taking away from my productivity and causing me to re-install far too often. I will post the BSOD info as well as my system info below (and a screen shot):

I looked that up on the net, and it seems the first part seems to indicate, or at least COULD indicate overheating. I checked CPU and System temps and they seem acceptable.
I am running Windows XP x64 Edition with the following hardware (please note that all of the hardware drivers I'm using are written for x64, MSI is so good:)). I have had this PC before it started having these problems, it could be related to using x64 I guess, but the error doesn't show that does it?

My OS and drivers are fully updated. As for my BIOS I've been running the version I'm using now forquite some time and I believe it is version 1.5. Also in another bad turn of events, my northbridge fan seems to be on its way out of this world (this just happned so I don't think its related to the BSOD). I haven't been able to find a replacement, and since its not spinning very fast, and sometimes stops...It's causing the heatsink to get quite hot. I need to get a new one, and I can't find them anywhere...I wonder if thats covered under warranty... I looked into getting a different heatsink, but my Graphics card is so colse to this heatsink, that theres no room for a bigger one at all.
Do you think this problem is motherboard related, I cannot understand what the technical info the BSOD gives me means, can anybody understand it? I don't think its my HD's, or Ram, or CPU...could it be a motherboard problem? And if so, its under 1 year old, can I get an RMA?
Thanks for the help in advance.

At one time I had a weak 450w psu that had only 18a on the 12v rail.  When I overclocked my cpu and gpu, I was getting bsod's every once in a while and couldnt figure it out until I read a similar post like yours on this forum.  I decided to upgrade my psu and havent had that problem since.
Power supplies can be deceiving.  I now have a 480w psu but its has 30a on the 12v rail.  So what we need to know is the ratings of your psu (see my sig) just to see if your psu is the culprit.  Just my 2 cents.

  • How can I determine which computer a share is connected to in /Volumes from terminal or a script?

I run a set of virtual machines via Fusion on an iMac that we run automated tests on for our website.  There is a folder on each VM called /Automation that is shared.
I have a python script that runs on the host, that will find an open VM, start it up and then mount the VM's /Automation folder.  So if there is only 1 VM powered on, the folder shows up in /Volumes as /Volumes/Automation.  The  problem is when there are 2 or more VM's powered on, because then the shares start being named /Volumes/Automation-1 and Automation-2 etc.  So my question is, how can I determine which computer each share belongs to from terminal or a script?
In other words, I'm looking for something like:
    /Volumes/Automation = "FirstVirtualMachineName.local"
    /Volumes/Automation-1 = "SecondVirtualMachineName.local"
Is there any way to determine which computer a mounted share is connected to?  In the past, I've just unmounted all /Automation folders, and then mounted them in a particular order, but that's unreliable and messy in my opinion.  If anyone knows a better way, please let me know.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

Well I think I have a workable solution.  It's not perfect, but I think it will do the trick. I can put a spotlight comment on the folder similar to 'HostName=OSX-Automation-1.local' and can then retrieve that value from our server with the following python snippet:
    import subprocess
    out,err = subprocess.Popen(['osascript','-e','tell application \"Finder\" to get comment of \"Macintosh HD:Volumes:Automation-1\"'],stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE).communciate()
So I could just loop through each 'Automation*' folder in /Volumes and grab the name from the spotlight attributes on the directories.  I don't think I really need to worry about the comments being overwritten, but I may have one of our launch daemons that run on the VM check that spotlight comment once a minute or something to ensure that the correct value is there.
If it ends up not working well in practice, I'm going to give your suggestion about a config script a shot.  It would require a little more up front work, but seems as if it would be pretty solid after that.
Thanks again for helping me think it through

  • BSOD when using Itunes And/Or when connecting IPOD classic

I have started getting a blue screen of death (BSOD)when opening Itunes followed by opening Iexplorer after a computer restart. I also get the same error when connecting the Ipod 80gb classic, it may take 3 or 4 attempts to get the Ipod conencted, initial recognition but then "ok to disconnect" within 10 seconds.
    Error code is 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 804e83e8, parameter3 f7938a68, parameter4 f7938764. with no driver of sys file identified.
Currently driving (no pun intended) me crazy. I have updated all drivers I can think of, uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and Apple Ipod device drivers with no solution.
    Thanks

  • Receiver Determination Step in S/A Bridge

    Hello,
we have done a Process with S/A Bridge. In the S/A Bridge we have to call different target systems with the same interface and send all results togehter back to the caller.
For this we open a S/A Bridge, after this we do a receiver determination step and open a block with dynamic sequence. In the block we want to call the different systems synchronous. For the sender step we defined the receiver list.
This process ends with errors. It looks like the receiver determination step find no receivers (our test with no receiver determination step works for one target system). We have defined a multiline container element (receivers) of type receiver.
Where can we see, if the container element receivers contein entries and is the receiver determination step allowed into an S/A Bridge?
    Thanks
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,
That is very basic I don't know if that will help you:
Try first going to transaction 'swi1' in the ABAP part and watch the container there. If not, you can try with the <b>end to end</b> monitorization in the <b>Run Time Workbench</b> (http://<yourserver>:50000/rwb/index.jsp)

  • How do I determine if my router is Bridge Mode capable

I have a linksys WRT 54G router that I wish to have Bridge Mode capability. How can I determine if this router has that capability.

WRT's Linksys firmware doesn't support bridge mode. You will need use a 3rd part firmware like DD-WRT.

  • WRT54GL causing bsod only when an Mac ibook g4 connects wirelessly.

    Hello all you tech gurus!
I consider myself a pretty adept pc user. I've built systems, installed wired and wireless networks, many kinds of peripherals, and so far, have not run into any problems I have not been able to figure out.
    Here is the situation:
I set up a wireless network for a friend using a WRT54GL router with a firmware version of 4.30.11. There are only 2 wired pc's connected to this router using c5 ethernet cabling. The first and main pc (which is the pc getting the bsod) is a Compaq Presario CQ5320Y running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. The second pc connected by ethernet is an ancient home built system running XP Home. Both pc's work well in all regards, both internet and non-internet items. There is an Apple pc (don't know the model of this one) that is connected wirelessly with no problems. These 3 pc's can all be using the internet at the same time with no problems what-so-ever.
The problem arises when a Mac ibook G4 connects wirelessly to the network. When the ibook connects to the network wirelessly, it causes a bsod (error code 0x00000007)on the Compaq Presario within 10 minutes of the ibook connecting to the network.(yes, I've researched that error code and ruled out hardware problems on the Compaq. The Compaq can run for weeks on end without any bsod, it only bsod's when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.) IF the ibook G4 is connected to the network via an ethernet cable, there are NO PROBLEMS with the Compaq. The Compaq ONLY gets the bsod when the ibook G4 connects to the network wirelessly.
Sad to say, I have almost no experience with Apple pc's and I am not sure if this is a router configuration problem or a configuration problem on the ibook G4. Remember, there is an Apple desktop connected to the network wirelessly with NO PROBLEMS.
If anyone can point me in the correct direction in trying to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Many thanks!
    Chuck

Or you can assign a static IP address on the computer it self.
If it is a MAC computer then click on APPLE icon. Go to system preferences. Click on Network and select Ethernet. Go to Advanced settings and go to TCP/IP settings. Change the configuration to Manual and assign a static IP address to the computer.
If it is windows computer then open Network connections. Right click on Local area connection/ wireless network connection and go to properties. Click on Internet protocol TCP/IP properties. Assign a static IP address.

  • AppleScript to determine if serial port has something connected

    Hi all,
I'd like to know if it is possible to detect if something is attached to the serial port.
I have two USB uart which are connected to my mac mini. They are recognized by the serial port as "usbmodem" and then a number.
I'd like to restart my computer is the Mac doesn't see them both.
    Any tip?
    Thanks!

I think your problem is going to be two-fold.
Firstly, serial devices are generally dumb - there's no easy way to tell if something's connected other than to try sending some data and seeing what comes back. Even then, depending on the device, the lack of response doesn't necessarily indicate nothing is connected. You'd need to know more about the kind of device you expect to be there, and how you interact with it (or, at least, how it responds) to be able to do anything.
Of course, this is a two-level thing... you have to check that not only is the USB device is connected (which is probably easy enough), but also that there's something plugged into the USB device itself.
The second problem is that access to serial devices tends to be singular - that is, if there's some other software already accessing that device, then your script is likely to fail when it tries to connect. Depending on the nature of that failure it might be hard to differentiate between 'nothing connected' and 'someone else is using this device'. Again, the specifics of the device will come into play here.
That said, you still have to be able to talk to the devices in the first place, and that's not easy. Serial ports haven't been standard on Macs for many years, so you're dependent on the software provided by the USB device vendor - you should check their documentation (if any) to determine whether they provide a mechanism for querying the device state.
The alternative would be to manipulate whatever software you're using to communicate with the serial device - it may be easier to script that application to determine the serial device's state, rather than try to query the serial port directly. That's certainly the path I'd look to first.

  • Determining the state of an LDAP connection

    Hi all,
I'm in a situation where I need to determine the state of an existing LDAP connection. The code is called from Java servlets / JSP's, and we're having a problem where the client mysteriously disconnects. The stack trace points to:
04/10/04 10:24:54 javax.naming.CommunicationException: connection closed. Root exception is java.io.IOException: connection closed
    04/10/04 10:24:54 at com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapClient.ensureOpen(LdapClient.java:1648)

    04/10/04 10:24:54 at javax.naming.directory.InitialDirContext.search(InitialDirContext.java:238)
    04/10/04 10:24:54 at com.tekelec.corpdir.ad.ADHelper.getAvailableOrgUnits(ADHelper.java:582)
The peculiar thing is that the InitialDirContext DOES exist, and is not null. Since we can't poinpoint what is causing the disconnects, the next best thing is to to a test against the context to determine if it is still connected.
Looking at this stack trace, I can see a function: com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapClient.ensureOpen(LdapClient.java:1648)
Googling the source, shows the following implementation:
    private void ensureOpen() throws IOException {
         if (conn == null) {
         throw new IOException("connection closed");
However, this does no good, since the function is private, and the corresponding Connection object is not exposed through JNDI.
Does anyone have any ideas? For now, I'm going to just call a simple 'lookup(...)' to cause the exception to be thrown if the connection is dead.
    TIA!
    -Sean

I was getting this exception on relatively large searches (but not on smaller ones). I was also getting a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError just before it that wasn't part of the stack trace. The server was nowhere near running out of swap, and all the /etc/system parameters (solaris) were reasonable.
    Then I found this page:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/PerformanceFAQ.html#171
and changed the way I'm calling the jvm this way:
    /usr/local/j2sdk1.4.2_08/bin/java -Xms512m -Xmx512m <java class file>
This solved the problem for me. Something you may want to try, anyway.

    Dear Rob,
I am having exactly the same problem as you with Facetime. Facetime would, in the middle of the conversation, simply quit. And I would have to restart the Ipad 2 to make it work again.
Safari would do that from time to time as well (but less frequently)
