T43 Access Connections XP SP3 trouble

I have seen this posted around the net quite a bit, but as of yet nothing has worked for me. I can't seem to get Access Connections to work with my wifi card after rebuilding my laptop with an XP SP3 integrated installation. Unlike some other posters, I used the official Microsoft download of XP with SP3 from the Volume Licensing site rather than slipstreaming it myself.
The only suggestion I have seen specific to XP and not Vista is to enable and set to automatic the "extensibile authentication protocol" and "network access protection agent" services, as well as make sure that the "wireless zero configuration" service is operating. I enabled the two suggested services and WCZ was working, but still Access Connections refuses to believe that the wireless radio is turned on, let alone do anything about it.
Are there any other potential fixes for this problem?

I updated my T43 to SP3 two weeks ago. The only issue I have had was with Java for a particular web site I have to use on a daily basis, this was fixed with an update.
Basically I let Windows Update install SP3 and after it had completed I went wireless online and ran TV System Update which updated Power Management etc. and Access Connections, no issues to report.
I would suggest uninstalling the WLAN card and AC followed by a new start. Install the latest WLAN driver and after re-starting install the latest AC followed by, if required the HotKey driver.

  • ThinkVantage Access Connections and Limited User Account (LUA) on XP SP3

Is it really so that one has to be logged on with at least Power User privileges to get the Access Connections utility working properly with 3G/HSDPA? When logging on as a Limited User, the computer can find all the cell phone operators nearby but does not let to do a connect. But when logged on as a Power User, all problems go away.
I would not like to bump up my user privileges from Limited User to Power User, since all else seems to work fine with a Limited User Account. Any ideas about what is going wrong -- or did I just hit into a wall here?
The environment in question is Thinkpad X200 and XP SP3. Access Connections and the HSDPA driver are the latest ones I could find from the Lenovo driver download site (Access Connections v. 5.21, Ericsson HSDPA driver v. 1.0.1046.221).
Would there be any other way to use 3G connections than to use the Access Connections utility (without changing to another o/s)?

    Hi Sami,
I just got stuck on the same problem as you and following is what I found in details fro ThinkVantage Access Connections version 5.30. Hope this helps.

    <Limited User>
A Limited user can create and apply only modem profiles. However, if
Administrator sets "Allow Windows users without administrator
privileges to create and apply location profiles" option in the
Global settings then the user can create and apply any kinds of
      profiles in the system.
      Also, a limited user cannot:
      1. Edit setting for the Automatic Ethernet and Wireless location
         profiles switching.
      2. Edit Global settings.
      3. Edit profiles created by another user in the system.
      4. Renew or release IP in the Diagnostics panel.
      5. Export profiles.
The limitations on Power user also apply on Limited user.

  • Can't get a wireless connection on a T43 when using Access Connections

This week I had to set up a laptop for one of the partners of our firm.  Since I can no longer use System Update to get all the lenovo apps I had to download everything from the website.  Everything seemed to be going fine until I noticed that the wireless card wasn't connecting through Access connections.   It only works through Windows connection utility I have the latest version of Access Connections and the correct driver for the wireless card but it just won't work.  I remember that when system update was up and running I could download a seperate driver from lenovo that would make the wireless card work with Access Connections.  Unfortunately, I can't find it on the website.  Can anyone help me?

  • W500 Access Connections Missing Resource DLL Win XP Pro SP3

    Hi, today is 4/21/2010.
I upgraded access connections and get this message on boot up now:
    Box title:  ThinkVantage Access Connections
Resource dll is missing, Reinstall the application to avoid this problem.
I have upgraded hotkeys, power management driver, access connections and intel proset wireless to the latest versions with particular care taken to follow all of the install instructions.
I cannot get this pop-up box to go away.  Also, when i ask the icon in the lower right corner of the screen to "Launch Access Connections" so I can re-import my profiles.. it doesn't ever launch a window, although i can see with process explorer that an executeable called "Access Connections.exe" was launched by "ACTray.exe"
I have done a side-by-side search of a T61P and my W500 and find all of the same "resource" dlls in the same locations.
Please help.  Also, if Lenovo tech support happens to read this, please put a check in all of the software upgrade packages to make sure that all the prerequisites are properly installed first.  that would probably solve a lot of your problems.
    Thanks
    Ted

    Hi,
I have seen such messages and mostly one of the following was the root cause:
    - There is a virus on your system, that prohibited the full installation and registration of Access Connection
    - The Access Connection could not be installed properly
The re might be also couple other options, why this might happen, but till now I faced only these situations.
Tell me, after, or priro to the error message, do you see any .dll files described, to which is can be realted?
If yes, then find those file on you HDD and make sure, that they are also present in "%windir%\system32".
Let me know, what exact version of AC  are you running now?
    Cheers

  • How to stop Access Connections from automatically connecting to WAP at turn on or restart?

I had a problem with my X200 winxp sp3 wireless connection. I got it working OK again but in the process I did something that changed the action of Access Connections when I turn on or restart the machine where it automatically connects to the WAP whereas before it did not do this, rather it required a manual connection. For the life of me I can't find the setting that controls this behavior...can anyone point me in the right direction.
    thanks for any feedback

Might not answer completely, but what is your "profile" set to? I have a "profile" called Office that wll only use the "hardwire" LAN Connection. I have another "profile" called Mobile that will only use the Intel Wireless card, yet another that is "HSPA Modem" that will only use the AT&T wireless card.
Could it be that your "profile" is set to use just your Wireless Connection?
    Just a thought -

  • Access Connections 5.3 doesn't see wireless

Suddenly Access Connections can no longer see any wireless networks -- even though the Windows wireless manager connects fine.  There are other similar recent posts but without a solution that works.
    T41 Type 2373
    WinXP SP3
    Access Connections 5.3
Atheros a/b/g wireless lan mini PCI, with driver v4.1.2.156
    Hotkey features 1.31.0610
    Solutions I've tried already:
Ran sys update to get latest versions
    turned off firewall
removed Access Connections including all profiles
    removed wireless adapter driver
    removed hotkey features
    rebooted
reinstalled Hotkey, Wireless driver, and Access Connections
    rebooted
turned off firewall again during connection attempt
Access Connections fails to connect wirelessly (but connects OK hardwired)
The Connections Status window shows wireless radio not turned on Error Code 16  (even though the radio is on).  When I run repair, the error changes to code 9 - no wireless networks in range (even though more than one is in range).  I can connect via WinXP wireless mgr with no problem.
    Thanks for any help!

well i don't have xp on my machine and it is a t61 so what i can assist with is limited. (vista business access connections 5.31) i've reviewd you troubleshooting steps but first i do have to ask since it was a sudden change do you recall installing updates or changeing any settings? if you have it set for automatic backups check to be sure everything is ok there. i wouldn't normaly suggest system restore since it messes with the registry and I'VE seen it do some damage but enymachine and user is different so you can give that a try if you can't at all recall what may have happened.  you can find by going to start-->all programs-->accessories-->system tools
but just thinking off the top of my head in the advanced menu under details you change you global settings so that it wont power off the radio in any instance (but probably wont change since you can connect using the windows config) and be sure it is powered on by press fn+f5 along with checking for the wirless switch at the front of your computer, the t41 is a lil oder than mine so it may not have. and along with those drivers that you updated try updating (not uninstalling and reinstalling) the power managment driver. i know when i install my own os it runs a lot better to install you chipset and powermanagement drivers first. (that i i sugges to update and not uninstall) and since its giving an error that  it can't power on thats what i can suggest.
p.s. under tools there should be diagnostics to where you can check to see if you enabled the error logging, if yo uhave that might provide further assistance.
p.p.s. i've looked up on a few other topics and it prob makes a difference with xp instead of vista because when selecting which tool to configure your wirless connection can cause an issue. but i mainly see this with older versions of access connecctions. so i guess i good question is if you were able to use windows to view and connect while you were using access connections?

  • Access Connections issues

I am very frustrated with my machine, I ordered and received a L512 Thinkpad with no troubles, but the internet connectivity is not functioning properly and it is making me anxious for the future, as I need this laptop to participate in my Grad School's online live synchronous classes that begin Jan 13th.
the Network Access does not seem to function correctly at all.  It will say it is connected to the internet at my home, but suddenly quit loading anything, despite still showing status as "connected", and won't do anything internet-related until i disconnect and reconnect.
other times it won't connect at all, saying my BIOS radio is off, despite the button on the front right being "on" and having never modified anything about this myself.
my girlfriend has an HP laptop and sits right next to me and hers works fine, other computers in the house work fine, it is not a network problem, it is a problem with my machine.
other times the internet will be working but the access connection status will have the red x and say disconnected.  then eventually it will have a lapse and not work until i disconnect and reconnect.
i bought this computer to do my online synchronous classes for grad school.  if it keeps dropping off the internet, this will be unacceptable for my needs of class participation.
all of the support online and in the thinkvantage have not helped.  i ran all the tests in the thinkvantage under diagnostics, and when it is connected it says everything works great, but then when it unexpectedly drops the internet, it gives me no help on why or how to fix it.
i am at a loss, and am thinking of trying to return the machine and go with something else, but as i've taken it out of the original box, and have read the general discussion forum threads on returns and customer service, i'm quite afraid to even attempt that process
the whole experience makes me want to cry.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
try to disable firewall and Antivir. Sounds like this might change the sitation.
The fact, that this is present also without Access Connection is not that much surpricing, as AC is mainly using the Windows network manager, so this is more like a nice GUI for network management with advanced functionality.
Anyway, try to focus more on the Windows even log to see, what might be wrong.
Also I would try to start command line and run following command:
    ping www.google.com -t
And let it run. Once the issue will be there, check if there really is a netowrk connectivity in this command line (if it pings, then you are still online, if not, you are off)

  • Access Connections fails to launch - "has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

I have an R61 with XP, SP3 installed.  The underlying functionality of Access Connections appears to be working properly (I have access to both Ethernet and wireless using profiles previously established), but when I attempt to launch Access Connections (from system tray icon, Programs, etc.) I get the error message,  "Access Connections has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience," and the option to send or not send an error report to Microsoft.  This makes it impossible to create or edit location profiles.  I first encountered this error several months ago with AC version 5.33 (might have also seen it under 5.3).  Subsequently I have upgraded to version 5.50 and have the same problem. Today I uninstalled AC, restared, reinstalled ver 5.5 (from a fresh download), and restarted.  I still encountering the problem.
Additional information:  Norton Internet Security (2010) is installed.  Microsoft and ThinkVantage patches are up to date.
Please recommend "next steps" in troubleshooting or a way to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

Hmmm... could be a corrupt profile.
    Try this.
    1.  Uninstall Access Connections (but don't delete the profiles)
    2. After the reboot, open REGEDIT.
    3. In the left pane, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then Lenovo
    4. Still in the left pane, right click on Access Connection and choose export
    5. Assign an appropriate filename and click Save (I suggest somewhere on the Desktop).
    6. Right click on Access Connections again and choose delete.
    7. Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Thinkpad\ConnectUtilities directory.
    8. Delete any files in this directory.
    9. Reinstall Access Connections v5.50
    10. Try and create a profile.
If you still get an error trying to create a profile, then something else is broken.  Be sure you have .NET 3.5 SP1 (it may be under optional downloads in Windows Update).
If it works fine, then you have a bad profile.  Unfortunately, there isn;t an easy way to figure out which one other than try and error of delete profiles and trying one at a time.
    To restore your profiles.
    1. Unistall Access Connections. Reboot.
    2. Double click the saved .reg file on your Desktop and answer Yes to merge it into the registry.
    3. Install Access Connections. Reboot.

  • Access connections 5.50 and EAP TLS with Computer certificate

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect to a Wifi using Computer certificate to authenticate and it works perfectly fine with windows Wireless Zero Config however with Thinkvantage Access Connection I always get an authentication error.
I'm using a R61 with a ThinkPad 802.11a/b/g/n, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter. It's been updated to the latest driver (v7.6.1.260b)
OS is windows XP with SP3 and all the windows update (as of today).
On my Radius server this is what I get:
If I use WZC I get this in the authentication:
Security ID: DOMAIN\R61WXP$ (this is my computer name)
    Account name: host/R61WXP.domain.local
    Account Domain: DOMAIN
    FQDN: DOMAIN\R61WXP$
    When I use Access Connections:
    Security ID: DOMAIN\Guest
     Account name:
    Account Domain: DOMAIN
    FQDN: DOMAIN\Guest
My Access connection profile is set this way:
IEEE802.1x => Authenticate as Computer when the information is available.
I hope someone can help !
    Thanks!

    Hi,
try to dissable the IEEE802.1x => Authenticate as Computer when the information is available.
Make also sure, that the profile connection is correctly configured in the AC profile settings.
This mighe the the root cause.
I can tell you, that there must be something missconfigured, as this configuration will surelly work .

  • Access Connections Ver 5.30

    Hardware
    Original description: Based on 1951-43U: T1300(1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, 9c Li-Ion batt.
    Software:
    OS : Windows XP SP3
Having recently updated Access Connections from 4.52 to ver 5.30 on a Thinkpad T60, I've noticed that when I create a new wireless profile with WPA encryption then Access Connections fails to connect unless you disable encryption on the router.
I had a Wireless profile previously configured before I migrated to Ver 5.30 and if I use this profile then Access Connections connects up to the LAN fine. My system is using the latest HotKey,Power management and Wireless drivers (see list below)
    - Hotkey Driver Version 2.11.0001
    - Power Management driver Version:1.52
    - ThinkPad 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter v7.4.2.134
I've since tried uninstalling AC (removing profiles) and tried reinstalling AC via a fresh install and still cannot connect to Wireless LAN with WPA encryption enabled.  I've also noticed that the
Ctrl+FN5 key does not allow you to turn off the Wireless radios and simply turns on/off the Bluetooth radio when pressed.
Has any one encountered any similar issues and if so, can anyone provide guidance on how to resolve this issue?.

    Rahul,
I haven't exactly figured out a solution.  However, since then I have upgraded to Windows 7 and am using a combination of Lenovo Windows 7 beta drivers and Lenovo Windows Vista drivers and I no longer have this issue.
Hopefully someone at Lenovo will see this and realize the Windows XP drivers are broken and fix them.

  • 802.1x wlan authentication wont work with Access Connections

Hi - hope someone can help. I have a WLAN configured to use 802.1x authentication using PEAP, passwords and an internal CA.
I can conect and authenticate a wireless client using the inbuilt windows wireless client; i am unable to connect when i configure Access Connections on the same computer with the same wireless settings. This is really annoying.....
The version of access connections is 5.21 running on windows XP SP3. Laptop is T61.
The connection fails as Access connections seems to think that there is no certificate installed on the client; there is and of course this would not have worked with the windows wireless client.
    error message is:
The identity of the server was rejected. Verify that the correct server name has been specified in the 'Validate Server Certificate' section of the profile.
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks.

did you find any resolution to this?  our mba- mid 2013 deployment is having a very similar problem.  We've gone through loads of troubleshooting and have yet to come to a resolution.  all our mid 2012 mba's are working fine they're 10.7.5/10.8.4 mixed.  console logs don't show much, i'll try the wireless diags tomorrow.  our other 10.8.4 build appears fine on other models of machines.  i've read posts about deleteing the adapters, deleting the system config plists and changing the mtu size, these steps do not work for us.
we don't have as high a failure rate with our deployment, but 25%-30% of our clients randomly drop connectivity and are unable to reconnect (fluttering wi-fi wave).  when you slect the wifi symbol in the menu bar other wireless networks do not show, the 'looking for networks' fly wheel continues to spin.  ocasionaly on login the yellow jelly bean will appear then disappear before finally timeing out without logging the user in (depsite having mobile accounts enabled).    mostly the problem manifests itself when waking from sleep - the wifi symbol flutters endlessly without connecting.  deleting the 8021x profile and readding it will reenable connectivity.  we've tried new profiels, but to the same end.  i know our certs and systems are fine because previous mac os x builds work fine as do our windows clients.
any input would be much appreciated.

  • No Bluetooth tab in "Access Connections"

    Hi,
I have a new W500 - my first Thinkpad for a while (last one was a 600e). I am getting on fine with it except I am having trouble using Bluetooth. I can only get to the vanilla windows bluetooth. As I understand it I should be able tosee a Bluetooth tab in my"Access Connections" but I see nothing relating to Bluetooth, just "Connect to the Internet", "Location Profile" and "Options".From browsing the forums I gathered there were some issues with my version of AC (5.02) so I went back to 4.52 as many were suggesting. This did not help so I am back to 5.02.
Through ThinkVantage I can switch bluetooth radio on and off, and I can see the "Thinkpad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate" radio (as well as the windows one) through device manager. I tried to update the driver of the thinkpad bluetooth radio to the latest version (I have 6.1.0.4500, and downloaded 6.1.0.4700 from Lenovo) but although it says it installs fine, after a restart it is still showing the old version in Device Manager.
Anyone have any idea how I can use the "Access Connections" tool to control Bluetooth? And why would a tab just not be there??
    W500 (4063) with Vista Business x64
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello,
if you click on the task icon of AC, AC will open and there should be a tab called tools.
There is the switch for bluetooth.

  • Wireless is missing from Fn+F5 and Access Connections

    Hi,
I just installed a new harddrive on my T60 and restored WinXP from recovery DVD, everything seems to be work fine, I have upgrade Windows to SP3 plus all hotfixes, and updated ThinkVantage software to latest version using System Update 3. Today when I try to use WLAN I found a problem, there's no way to add a WLAN profile in Access Connections, I can choose Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG when creating new profile in AC, but after I clicked Next, I couldn't find any wireless SSID even though there is one active. The #3 dropdown (wireless mode) is also empty, the security property button is also grayed out, so I cann't proceed further.
I thought this may be becuase wireless is turned off somehow, so I used Fn+F5, to my surprise there's no wireless in it! It only has Bluetooth. I do have Wireless Network Connection 2 in Windows' Network Connections, it's listed as Not connected, the hardware manager also shows the wireless NIC without any problem, so I think WIndows does recognize the wireless NIC, but for some reason Thinkvantage refuses to recognize it, any ideas?
    Thanks
    Jim

I solved my problem by uninstall and reinstall WLAN driver and AC (maybe other related drivers, don't quite remember). The sequence of uninstall/install is important, I think you need to uninstall AC first, and install it last.

Today I have reinstalled my OS (with drivers and applications) twice because of problems with WiFi application (famous Fn+F5)... but I'm too tired of this to describing it tonight
What I want to say is that I have noticed small bug (?) in Access Connections. It is not very important, but maybe developers would fix it: so, with themes turned off there are some labels near radio buttons missing (picture 2).With themes turned on everything is ok (picture 1).

  • Latest (10-15-2010) Windows XP Updates Broke Access Connections

System: T60p with XP Pro SP3 updated with the latest patches from MSFT and Lenovo.
Couple of days ago Microsoft pushed a big pack of updates (According to Add/Remove Programs:
    2345043, 2344875, 2362765, 2360131, 2279986, 2360937, 2387149, 971513, 979687, 2345886, 981957, 982132, 2378111, 2296011 but I think there were more) which broke Access Connections.
I get  "Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)" - displayed TWICE for each attempted launch of ACWLIcon.exe.
Running Access Connections Application from the start menu also fails.
I updated to the latest available version 5.07.0002.0028 but the problem remains.
Can you investigate and release a patch? In the meanwhile, do you think I should uninstall it?
    Thanks, Alex.

    Hi LeshaM,
    Welcome to Lenovo Forums.
Could you try to uninstall it --> reboot machine --> reinstall the latest one and see if it helps.
