T43 keyboard

I have started using a wireless mouse and keypad.  Kensington -- a USB port "antenna".  It worked immediatelly and I was very happy.  However, when I took my laptop to another location, and  wanted to use the laptop keyboard, the P is a *, the O is a 6 -- as if the NumLock was on.  But it wasn't.
Any ideas how I can get the ThinkPad keyboard to work again?
Is here any way to go back and forth between two different keyboards?

It was Shift-NumLk.  Resolved.

Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and do not know proper protocol, so I am resubmitting my post, as I have not received any responses to my post. Hope that I am submitting this correctly. I would be interested in any input anyone might submit.
Running XP Pro on t43, Type 2668 Model 46u. T43 is set on docking station and using wireless keyboard and mouse.
Once removed from docking station keyboard on T43 would not work properly. Just found out on this site that I needed to press shift and numlock which worked, However my Esc, 1,Q, A, Z do not work is this a different issue? I recently upgraded memory and had to remove keyboard. Could this cause a problem and how might I be able to fix this.
Thanks in advance for any help and info

    Hi quadophile,
I've had the same problem I think you're describing: the screws are disengaged from the threaded holes but don't drop out of the holes. So far I've managed by holding the laptop up and using a vertical screwdriver to twirl the screws around in their holes until they eventually drop out. What might work better is a pencil magnet or using a tool to magnetize your screwdriver to help coax the screws out.

    Hi frpagan,
what happen if you use the laptop+docking station without your wireless keyboard+mous and then undock the laptop? Does the keyboard laptop work?
And did this problem occur after you did the memory upgrade?

  • Can I use Croatian keyboard with T43 purchased in US?

I recently purchased a T43 to give to my relatives in Croatia as a gift. Does anyone know if it is easy to plug in an external keyboard that is configured for Croatian characters?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Welcome to the forum!
Yes, you can use the external keyboard configured for Croatian or any other language. You can also configure the keyboard in Windows to respond as Croatian keyboard. Furthermore, you can purchase a Slovenian layout T43 keyboard, which, I believe, has the same layout as Croatian, or at least very close to it.
    Hope this helps.

  • T42 & T43 Thinkpad Keyboards not working after taking from docking station

I have a t42 and t43 thinkpads, both are having the same problem.
The keyboards appeared to be disabled, I have uninstalled, reinstalled drivers etc.
Reseated keyboards physically and they still wont work.
    The glide pads work.
The only way I can get a keyboard to work in via the docking station.
    Power buttons doesn't work either.
    Any ideas?
It's almost like the keyboards are disabled, but I have checked every setting possible.
Is it possible to disable the keyboard? If so, how to reverse?

    Welcome to the forum.
Have you considered the possibility of keyboards going bad? Improperly connected? A non-functioning ower button is pretty much a dead giveaway for one of these options...
It is not possible to disable an internal keyboard, BTW.

  • T43/port replicator & keyboard issues

Over the past 2 months I have been batteling this issue with 4, T43s and port replicators (i refer to these as docks; it is in fact a port replicator):
When the laptop is shutdown and undocked, when they return to dock, and powered on, the keyboard and mouse (external) will NOT work. The keyboard and mouse on the laptop do not work either; however the Fn+ keys work (i.e I can turn on the keyboard light, adjust brightness, etc) and the power button works.  We use the power button to start a shutdown, and try again.  After 2 or 3 reboots everything is fine.
We have enough patterns to leads us several different directions, the most recent to the BIOS.
I believe on the 4 that are having problems, I installed the most recent BIOS and embedded controller updates while the laptop was docked.  Could this cause such issues?  Is there a way to force a re-install of the BIOS?  I try to apply the BIOS again and it exits as the installed version is current.
    Setup:
    Windows XP Pro SP3
All the newest ThinkVantage software and drivers (repeatable issue without the software present)
    McAffe Endpoint Encryption (Safeboot)
    Windows security profile: securews.inf
I have enough reason to believe it is something in regards to the network as well, however I want to rule this possibilitity out completely.  With that said, why would the keyboard detection failed during startup if there is a netowrk issue? More on that later if it turns out this isn't the culprit.

How did you do this?  I dont see an option for changing the port in the Control Panel -> Sound ->Playback menu.
Ive been to many other blogs and threads and your the only who may have found the solution.
    thanks

  • Where do i find the second ram slot on a t43 thinkpad

i believe ram might be my issue causing my t43 to freeze moving the mouse pointer with the track pointer helps get things working i bought a new 1gb ram and installed it in the ram port since then i have been able to run sluggish applications more smoothly but after a while of using these applications up to an hour the t43 freezes using the track point put some life back in to the machine (enough to close the application) when i dont have anything running except the internet it runs fine i believe the t43 has some sort of second ram slot since in the system it now shows as 1.5gb of ram and not 1gb
should the t43 have a second ram slot how easy is it to get at i don't want to accidentally  break something

    Welcome to the forum!
The second RAM slot is under the keyboard. Check the HMM for removal instructions:

  • RSI Issue: Need help on IBM/Lenovo external keyboards w Trackpoint? Pic

Need help on IBM/Lenovo external keyboards w Trackpoint? Pic
I started my journey with Thinkpads on a T42, then T43.. then T61, X61T, R61 & T410 (bought for 2 cousins & they love it), W510 (dads new laptop). I may be a much recent convert but I swear by them now.
MAJOR ISSUE: Recently started feeling RSI (Repetitive Stress) & Carpal Tunnel symptoms (already doing stretches.. adjusted the desk.. & finding new adjustable LCD stand) since I am not using the Thinkpad directly... but using it docked with an External keyboard. Lot of Mousing as well. I'd like to go back to Thinkpad FEEL... or atleast have keyboard with a pointing device so my hands dont have to keep moving back n forth.
So, it would be great it some of my fellow T4x/T6x/X6x 'ers would guide me a bit on this... share their first hand experience, or what they've seen on these keyboards and feel free to point me to reliable sources of information.
Currently this would greatly be use with T61 - Adv Mini Dock - 30" XHD3000 LCD as shown in my signature below.
Anyone who has used or know something about one of these Thinkpad related keyboard (ideally both of these to give a comparative response).
Which of the following have you used?
    How was the experience?
(Maybe point me to thread with peoples experiences)
If you've used several, which one do you prefer / recommend? Why?
At the moment I have a "slim" BTC 6200C desktop keyboard. It has laptop like scissor keyswitches, so I like it the slim notebook like profile.
The way I have positioned my 30" LCD I'd like to be able to keep the keyboard on my lap at times while on my chair and maybe on the desk at times.

I had the same issue - had to go to voice command for a few weeks (sucked) wore wrist gards to keep things netural.
Everything went away when I changed to a USB keyboard with the Ultra nav (I use the track point and disable the pad).
I've been working like that for 6+ years now... no issues.
(as a side note, sleeping with wrist guards on helped heal me the fastest.  I had neoprine, with a metal plate in them - from a local drug store)

  • Helix Fans in keyboard portion ALWAYS running at full speed

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone from Lenovo support (or a fellow user) could recommend a Lenovo sponsored solution for the problem regarding the fan in the keyboard tray always running at full speed on the Helix? I know there are a bunch of 3rd party fan control solutions out there, but some users have cautioned that they cause unexpected touch screen problems.
When I use my Helix to remote login to other computers, the fans in the keyboard dock slow down and stop, and the noise difference is incredible. It would be so much better if the Helix was always that quite...
    Any solutions?
    Thanks!

    bgiles9091,
We've had fan feedback for a while in the forum on helix.  All of the samples here perform as expected, so to revisit the issue we may need a sample from a customer.
I would also ensure you are at the latest BIOS and power management driver levels, and have installed the firmware update on your keyboard dock.
    Thanks,

  • T43 shut down when jostled

    Hi All,
Recently purchased a T43 on e-bay to replace a deceased T42.  Overall, love the machine, really missed having a ThinkPad when I was between machines (was using an Acer for a bit....awfull machine)
Have had some issues with my "new" machine though, one of which is that it just mysteriously shuts down if jostled about a bit (especially on the horizontal plane) and, occasionally, if picked up the "wrong way", but the latter has admittadley not happend often.  When the power button is pushed after the shutdown, the system restarts with no problem and generates no error reports
I'd like to also add that the supplier was using "cheapo" memory and one of the sticks was causing BSODs.  I took the secondary module out completely, but left the module under the keyboard in place (this module passed the Lenovo test).  Already order two new sticks of quallity memory from newegg (supplier will compensate here).  I mention the memory in the event that this might have something to do with the occasional shut-down problem, but I suspect they are unrelated.
Are T43's "twitchy" this way?  Perhaps it's some safety setting I'm unaware of.  Or, perhaps I have a serious problem here. Just not sure.
Thanks in advance for any support.

    Hello Tom1971,
unfortunately your system board is broken. You TP suffers form the so called "flexing" phanomenon.
You´ll need a new mobo. The solder is weak and in future it won´t get on, so safe your data.

  • T43: Can I use a towel for cooling?

I work with my T43 on my lap. Even though my pants, my skin gets a little hot (I don't even want to think about summertime temperatures). I bought a Belkin Cushtop, but it put the keyboard too high on my lap.
Can I safely put a towel on my legs, and the computer on top? I've heard that this might block cooling, but the T43's exhaust seems to come out the left side, not the bottom. If a towel isn't safe, what would be the best cooling pad for a T43?

For a quick experiment just try a piece of cardboard. If that works out look for a similar sized piece of rigid plastic, wood or metal.
Anything rigid and flat that separates your legs from the Thinkpad will help.

  • TrackPoint Keyboard & Numeric Pad don't seem to play nicely

    Hi all.
I have just bought a 55Y9003 TrackPoint Keyboard and 33L3225 Numeric KeyPad to replace my ancient (circa 1997) full trackpoint keyboard; which, by the way has been sensational.  I was very disappointed to see it leave the product range.
When I connect the new keyboard and numeric pad to my notebook (Dell 620) pressing the NumLock key on the numeric keypad also puts the keyboard into "NumLock" mode, which defeats the purpose of having the Numeric KeyPad.
Does anyone know a fix for this ?
Needless to say it didn't happen with my old trackpoint keyboard, even on the Dell !
    Much sadness follows ;-(

  • T40 series (T43) where is other memory module?

Unscrewing the flap to access the 1 available module is easy...
But I want to put in 2 GB for Win XP Pro and 1 MB modules are all that appear certified for this motherboard.  What do we have to take apart to get at the (presumed) 512MB chip hiding somewhere else?

  • T43 - Hangs on boot-up screen

    Dear all,
I have a 2668-45G Thinkpad T43 which just doesn't boot anymore. This laptop wasn't booted or charged for a long time before I got it. Warranty has run out just 1,5 months ago.
    Exact description:
    - Pressing Power-On button results to start-up the notebook. Boot-up screen is shown and nothing else happens.
    - No reaction if I press the "Access IBM" button or F1 at all. I cannot enter BIOS, nor is there any other reaction (no beeps, no error message, no num-lock-light switching).
Hard drive is turning, CD-ROM is preparing.
What did I try so far:
    - Take out battery and AC-cable, pressed power-on button 10 times for a longer time. Then I plugged the AC cable in and pushed F1 during power-on. Sometimes I come to the startup menu. But only rarely. And if I get there, again no reaction on key pressing.
    - I opened the laptop, if there is any visible problem. There isn't. After opening and closing, I could once switch to the BIOS, but there was no reaction to any further key pressing. So I could not reset the BIOS to some default state.
    - The laptops beeps though if I remove the memory module.
    What can I do now?
    Please help me.
    Best regards
    Laurence

Another shot in the dark...can you swap the CMOS battery with one from your R50?
If we don't have a BIOS that is messed-up (which is an unfortunate option) sheer persistance and attention to small details might get us somewhere...
My knowledge is really of little use right now, as is my experience. Personally, I'd keep the HD out, along with battery, wireless and BT cards and keep attempting to get it to boot in different intervals...not much science there, but that's the best I've got right now, I might be smarter a little later...or never...
Also, applying permanent pressure of a light nature on the spot where keyboard enters the planar as in couple of bent "post-it" sheets might be worth considering...
Good luck and keep us posted.

  • T43, Upgrading motherboard/graphic card

    Hello,
I want to upgrade my T43
It is a 2668-CTO if that helps
When I check the computer itself it tells me it has a Intel(R) M Processor 2.00 GHz
    The memory is 1020mb and the processor type is a X86 Family6 Model 13 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~ 1995mhz
i would like to make it capable of playing graphics intensive games like Runes of Magic, a bit like WOW, without getting lags.
I would also like to be able to use a controller instead of the keyboard interface.
Is it possible to add more memory and would that make it work better?
Or would I need , and is it possible to, change the motherboard and the graphic card?
Apparently the graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X300
I would be grateful for any help.
I love my T43 and am very happy with it for most things, would just like to improve it's gameplay
    Thanks very much
    Gay Elston

    1. There is no better graphics card that you can add aftermarket, as the CPU is physically soldered to the motherboard.
    2. Upgrading memory may help, depends on how short of ram your laptop is? How much ram usage do you get when you play the WOW? i.e. 70% you can check by pressing ctrl + alt + del.
