T43 still can't clone hard disk and boot

I have a T43, 1871-WKL, with a 60G HD.  I purchased a 160G Samsung HM160HC as an upgrade.  I cannot get the system to clone and boot the new drive.
I hook up the new Samsung drive with a Sabrent USB to IDE cable and the drive works fine.  I can use it for storage with no problem.  Doing a full format with verify works like a champ.
First I tried Acronis TrueImage 10.0.  It tells me the target media has write errors about 4% into the clone.
So I tried Clonezilla.  It works fine, either as the same size or expanding.  I and see the drive and copy stuff on and off the drive no problem.
However, when I insert the drive into the carrier for the internal drive and try to boot from it, it hangs with a blank screen and blinking cursor.
I was TOLD that it MAY be due to the fact I have no R&R on my drive.  So I download the R&R software and installed in on the original drive and cloned it.  Again, it won't boot.  I even tried booting the R&R rescue CD.  It will boot the CD with the ORIGINAL drive in the laptop, but the CD Boot hangs if I have the new drive in the laptop.
I tried it with the Acronis rescue disk as well, even though I didn't have an Acronis clone of the drive.
I must have swapped out the drive over a dozen times, and I getting tired of wearing out the mounting screws.  Any ideas?
Mike

Mike, welcome to the forum,
you need to firstly create an Acronis rescue disc and then reverse clone. Install the new drive as primary in your T43 and your original drive in the USB caddy / USB -> IDE cable and then simply clone the drive.
Please see the following article in the forum Knowledgebase; Cloning Hard Drive Including The Predesktop Area With Acronis

  • Clone Hard Drive and boot to different Mac

First off, lemme give the details... I just got a lacie rugged 500gb hard drive, and i have a macbook pro and an imac (both intel). Now my imac is in a bit of a shambles because i never really went through the process of deleting all the preference files and packages for software i used, i just simply deleted the program itself... so my library (and other things like my itunes library) are somewhat out of order. However, my macbook pro started from scratch, and has everything, including itunes, in order. Now that i have my new external HD, i want to move any important files from the imac (my family guy collection :P), then make a bootable clone of my macbook pro's hard drive (using intego personal backup x5 i believe), erase the imac's hard drive, and restore from the backup of my laptop's hard drive. Basically, i want to make my imac a clone of my macbook pro, while physically deleting all the unimportant stuff off of it, rather than just booting from the external hd every single time. Any suggestions as to wiping the imac's hard drive and restoring from the X5 backup? P.S. When you erase the hard drive (i am assuming using disk utility??) it leaves the OS intact no? So that when you boot you should be able to press option or whatever to boot from the drive? I have already explained what im goin for, step by step would be greatly appreciated....

My bad, didnt realize this was a macbook (black and white) specific group, ill re-post

  • Pavilion dv6-1304el Additional Hard Disk and Boot

    Hi to all,
I've replaced primary HD with an SSD, and at the same time I've added a second HD in the CD bay.
The problem is that the bios try to start-up system from the second hard drive (in cd bay) but this one don't has installed the OS and the notebook don't start.
If I remove the second HD, PC start-up automatically.
I've tryed to reconfigure Bios boot order, but I don't have result.
I can start-up PC typing F9 and choosing "Internal Hard Disk" from the list; at this time the system start without any problem.
How can configure Notebook to start-up automatically?
    Thank you!
    Simone

No the disk number is hard wired based on which SATA port the drive is connected to. I am a bit surprised that the BIOS seems to prefer the drive attached to the CD drive SATA port. Have you tried reinstalling the optical drive and then disabling CD boot, then put the hdd in the adapter back in? I do not mean just put the CD lower in the order, there is usually a keystoke you can do which disables booting from a specific device or class of devices in the BIOS.

  • Can't see hard disk folders

I have an airport extreme hooked to a cable modem. I have a Seagate 160 gig hard disk attached to the airport extreme. My Mac Book Pro can see the hard disk and all its folders, but my PC that is wired with an ethernet cord cannot see the folders on the hard disk. It sees the drive as a Z drive but no folders show up. My husbands Sony Vaio laptop only sees the hard disk and not the folders either.
    Any suggestions????

Safely? No. You'll have to find another place to transfer the data to.
And last is the best format not HFS+?
It is... if you have a Mac. If you are only in Windows, you may at some point want to disconnect the USB HDD from the Extreme and connect it directly to your PC. Native Windows can read a FAT/FAT32 drive, but not an HFS+. However, you can pick up MacDrive which allows a Windows machine to read an HFS+ drive. Your choice.

  • Is there a way to recover old emails? I moved a few folders around on the hard disk and now my emails have reverted to Factory settings and all my old emails and address book have vanished. I am still running on 10.4.11 and Apple can not help me.

Well, your profile info says 10.4.11, and you are posting your question in the iMac (PPC) category.  If you are running Snow Leopard, it must be a fairly recent Intel iMac.
In that case, you should definitely post your question here
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.6_snow_leopard
where other Snow Leopard users can see your question.  Restate the problem, what error messages you get, and what you have tried already (for trouble-shooting).

    Thanks
I had this answer : When you copy data from one drive to another, it is not removed from the first drive — you need to trash it as the second step in the process of "moving" it. Then empty the trash.
Sorry I understand the answer but I'm not very good...how to "trash it as the second step in the process of moving it"...I already emptied my trash and don't know where to go o trash another time the files...can you explain the process.
    Thank you very much

    Hi lluiset,
    Let's try this example.
If I have a file on my Desktop and copy it to an external HD it copies the file, it does not move it. I'd then need to take that file and move it to the trash can (click on it, hold and drag over the trash can icon in the Dock). Another option is to right click (or hold the Control button and mouse click), then select "Move to Trash" followed by emptying the trash.
    Hope that helps.

    tornado2003,
What you need to do is boot into Safe Mode. Then delete the VGA Drivers.
After that boot normally and install the latest nVidia ForceWare Drivers
    Take Care,
    Richard
    i guess you missed that:

  • I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it, how can I get another copy of lion OS, P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it with a new one, how can I get another copy of lion OS, as the guy at the serive center installed 10.6 for me.
P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

If you have a way to wipe 10.6.8 off, you can then reboot your machine (with no OS) and since your system came preinstalled with Lion, Internet Recovery should occur which will boot to Apple's servers into a Recovery HD for you to redownload and install Lion.
To be safe I would first make a clone of the current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. This way you have a way to recover.

    Hi BobRz
Thanks for you suggestion but it didn't work - are there other ways for solving this problem? Or is it because my files that I want to copy and paste onto my hard disk etc are too big? (However there is space on my hard disk and it works on a PC)

  • How can i format my MacBook Pro hard disk and recover my data from time capsule?

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro is running slow, more and more. Everything started with the "upgrade" to Lion.
Can I re-format my hard disk and recover from Time Capsule only the data and applications I really need (including Snow Leopard as OS, maybe)?
    Thanks

The problem is that it is a Western Digital 3.5 inch internal hard drive housed inside a hard drive caddy. So the only way to connect it to my computer is through a dock.

if this quesstion is not related to this forum plz guide me that where i put this quesstion?

You figure out how to do it on your OS using C/C++ code.
Then you write a wrapper in JNI to call your C/C++ code.

  • At only 15 months of age, my MacPro crashed yesterday! Any idea how I can save my hard disk from being destroyed if I hand it in for repair?

At only 15 months of age, my MacPro crashed yesterday! Any idea how I can save my hard disk from being destroyed if I hand it in for repair?

Open it up. Buy a new replacement drive. Install Mac OS. Then give it to them if you still have trouble.
    As for the install failing,
I never do the older "archive and install"
I format and initialize first, even zero the drive, and only then install.
of course all the data is lost.
Data Rescue 3 demo can scan a drive but you need to have setup a 2nd boot drive to work from, AND you would need part of that 2nd drive partition for recovery of data. 30-50GB system partition and 150% the size of the drive you want to recover.
TimeMachine I never adopted or liked but 350% and would only use as secondary backup with cloned copy of your drive.
Backups can be scheduled, run at night or weekend or both, a weekly clone and daily sets.
Disk Warrior 4.2+ is another $100 (DR3 is about same but demo is free to try).
A spare external drive case $30? and TWO hard drives, a replacement and backup/recovery $100 each?
Just some ideas to throw out there....
Bootable clones though you will find are very useful, handy.
I like the small 40GB emergency boot partition - put one on your TimeMachine drive etc.
LION: the one good thinig: it has a recovery mode partition and new Macs have "net install" feature and minimal hardware diagnostic over the internet to do Apple Hardware Test. Lion $30 and might actually want to install it on external.
So DO try installing OS X on one of your external drives - create 40GB volume just for that - if you can please.
