T430 gets BSOD when enabling NVidia NVS 5400M.

I don't quite understand how, but when I started using the notebook everything was fine. It even did an update of WDDG 1.1/2 drivers through Windows Update (which I can't find to undo). Today I bought a cable to actually connect to an HDMI. But couldn't find it. I found out that it was in Intel mode. Which surprised me bacause I had toyed with the NVidia Control Panel. When I tried to force the NVidia mode, I couldn't. Thus, I got into the BIOS and forced the Discrete Option. But each time I enable Discrete or NVidia Optimus, I get a BSOD at boot time.
I've updated every driver I could only through ThinkVantage Update and Drives and Windows Update. Nothing downloaded from anywhere else. What can I do?

The T430 has Optimus, which means the Intel chip handles most of the work and the nVidia chip kicks in only when there is some heavy lifting. I find the BIOS is generally best left in the auto-detect or Optimus mode, unless you have severe problems or are using an operating system that Optimus doesn't work with.
Ideally you would want to use the current drivers from Lenovo (It looks like these are the correct ones http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073828 ), which might require a rollback by installing an older version over a new version. If those don't work then I would experiment with the drivers from the nVidia site.

  • Nvidia NVS 5400M overheating in T430

    Hello,
I recently bought a new T430 with a built-in Nvidia graphics card to replace my old T420 with a machine capable of a little gaming.
However, when I play a (3D) game for about one hour, the notebook suddenly switchs off, as if I cut the power. Also, during gaming the notebook gets really hot, GPU temperatures rise above 100°C.
It seems to be happening more frequently when the notebook is NOT inside a docking station and I use the internal keyboard for gaming.
Are there any hints on how to resolve this issue?
    Emanuel

Maybe this will help. Anywho, if you opt for NV5400M you'll still be able to use Intel HD Graphics since it comes with your processor. In general, running Intel HD Graphics will be more beneficial if you plan on using your laptop while away from AC since it uses much less energy. As far as processing power goes, NVIDIA is way better. We cashed those 80 bucks more and got NVIDIA and IMHO it's moneys well spent.

  • Once windows installed in partitioned disc and run the installer for support software only get BSOD when restart. Help!

I've tried reintstalling about 3 times, changing order of operations, still get blue screen.
When I install windows and follow all directions it works fine. Once I install the apple provided support drivers and the computer restarts it manages to stay on for about 15 seconds before blue screening.
    MacPro Mid2010 2x2.4Ghz

    2 - 5770 Ati radeon 1024 MB video cards
I have latest lion updates and ran the updater
I have a brand new windows 7 installation disc, i have tried both 32 bit and 64.
boot camp that is in my OSX is 3.0.4 (322), but it does download the support software for windows which i save in a separete usb stick.
and I am doing the partition on a relatively new hard drive 500 gigs thats been partitioned.
    Any Ideas?
I've attached of a photo of the blue screen message.
    Cheers,
    Paco

Pull all the other hard drives?
Upgraded to Boot Camp 3.3 already?
Have an Apple software RAID on other drives - AppleHFS and AppleMNT to mount and read HFS volumes - is buggy
you didn't burn the DVD from ISO etc right?
Safe Boot and rename AppleHFS.sys and MNT to .sys.old
Install MacDrive instead to access HFS
Who what or how did you partition the drive? normally I would just use Windows 7 DVD and not use BCA or share the drive with OS X.

  • New iTouch...getting BSOD when trying to sync

I got my iTouch for Christmas and am very disappointed. Every time I would try to sync it I get the BSOD once music has been uploaded to it. I've got 3 music videos on it, none of my "tv shows". Forget trying pictures. Would be nice, but...with the problems I'm reading about. Oh and the charge I get last me 4 hours tops and this was after charging all night. Any suggestions? I call Apple and am told this is a Vista problem. I call Microsoft and told it's an iTunes/Apple issue (have a 2 year old iPod Touch). I can't even play video on my HP laptop that I have purchased through iTunes. I'm not liking Vista, but I'm really starting to not like the iPods/iTouch.

32 bit or 64 bit Vista?

    Hi everyone!
My name is Dani and I'm from Spain.
We've just started using Adobe Connect but we are facing an unknown issue. (Art least, it's unknown for me )
I start a meeting as a host, then 2 or 3 people connect to it as guests, and then, everytime I enable or disable my own audio (through the direct icon) the entire platform gets hanged for 2 or 3 seconds. Very annoying!
We are using the adobe connect add-in in a computer with that configuration:

  • T530 with 2 display adapters - NVIDIA NVS 5400M and Intel HD Graphics 4000 Drivers not loading

Both the Nvidia and Intel graphic drivers show in device manager that they have problem and can't load properly. I have tried uninstalling both they both reinstalled on a reboot with same issues. Is this hardware or corrupt drivers?? Or?

Failure progressed to a point where I could login remotely (GoToAssist) and see the screen but the LCD and External Monitor both were black.
Called tech support, they dispatched a tech (after 3 days, and a bunch of phone calls).  They replaced the system board and display board?  same problem.  Their answer was I needed to reimage the machine.
I found out that Windows had done an update.  We did a system restore to before the update (30 some updates) and restored the local displays.
BUT....both the NVidia and Intel HP Graphics devices in Device Manager indicate problems.  And this was after reinstalling the video drivers I pulled down from Lenovo.
Any thoughts on where I go next??  Lenovo has washed their hands of this problem....
I am about to wash my hands of Lenovo as a vendor for PCs.

Please check if you install all necessary Windows Updates on the server.

  • Anyone had or having issues with getting nVidia NVS 450 resolution to work?

    Hi all,
We got a new C20 with a nvidia NVS 450 card--and a ThinkVision monitor. The C20 had Windows 7 preinstalled; the out-of-the-box resolution was 640x480 and we couldn't get it to go higher than that! The ThinkVision and the video card are connected using the DisplayPort cable that came with the unit. After reinstalling the video card driver that came with the unit (on a CD that contains drivers for Windows and Linux), we could never get the resolution to go beyond 640x480. We gave up thinking it must be some quirk with Windows 7. We were going to install Linux on the C20 anyway, so we moved on doing that.
We installed Fedora 14 (64-bit) installed the nvidia video driver that was on the CD and can't get the display resolution greater than 640x480. After a few days of trial-n-error referencing various online forums, we managed to get the resolution up to 800x600, but not the expected 1900-something resolution the ThinkVision and the video card supports.
Has anyone had issues with getting the video card resolution to work? If so, were you able to resolve the problem? We thought we'd toss this here instead of calling up Lenovo support first because usually with technical issues, we get more intelligent replies than over-the-phone. Also, waiting for replies on a forum is less frustrating than being put on hold over the phone.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you for your reply.
I was lucky to get a hold of another monitor and when I connected that, I got the full resolution. After much testing, I determined that it was a faulty monitor and it had nothing to do with the video card. I eventually got a replacement monitor for the one that wasn't giving me the full resolution.
Afterwards, I went ahead and got the latest nvidia drivers from their Web site. Everything works really well now.

  • CUDA enabled driver for Nvidia NVS 140M

    Hi,
I want to do some GPU coding on my T61 with Nvidia NVS 140M GPU using the "new" CUDA system. The NVS 140M supports CUDA but the current official driver from Levono (ForceWare 176.93) seems to be lacking CUDA support. When I download the recommended driver for the latest CUDA (2.1) from the Nvidia CUDA site (ForceWare 180.22) it's not installable unless I use the Nvidia Mobility Modder to force the driver to install. Then CUDA programs run fine but the system is kind of unstable. Resuming from stand by or hibernation works only sometimes, mostly screen starts flickering and then BIOS screen appears. So it's not really usable for a laptop computer. Further, ForceWare 176.93 should be able to support CUDA, since CUDA 1.1 is supported from 173.xx on, as this is the recommended driver provided for download.
Does anyone have an idea? It cannot be that I have suitable hardware but cannot use it properly due to some crappy driver policy.
This all relates to Vista x64, with linux there was until now no problem with the latest nvidia driver and resuming.
    Cheers
    Phil

Try the notebook driver for developer here. It worked for me.

  • BSOD when installing Windows XP

I have two R500 ThinkPads that came with Vista Home Basic sp1. I need to install Windows XP Pro sp2 on the laptops but I keep getting a BSOD when I boot from the XP installation cd.  The BSOD error is:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
    Technical information:
    *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7C04524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
The laptops are both brand new, I did make recovery disks of the vista install, but I really need XP installed on them to work with our system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a slightly easier way than slipstreaming.
The issue is that XP doesn't have driver support for the SATA AHCI controller on that system.  However, you can download that driver here:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70477
You'll need to extract that and put it in the root of a floppy (yeah, a floppy... looking for the A: drive is hardcoded in to the XP install).
When you boot to the XP CD, press F6 when prompted (it'll say "Press F6 to install third-party SCSI controller" or something similar along the bottom).
Windows will load some files and eventually bring you to a screen with a couple of options.  It'll tell you your current controller is "<none>" and allow you to press S to specify a driver.  Once you do, it'll scan the A drive and load up the entries from the txtsetup.oem file you extracted from the driver.
The selection you want doesn't show up by default.  There aren't any scroll bars, but you can scroll through the list using the arrow keys.  You want "Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller" which is the 7th from the bottom.
Select that, Windows will load it, the install will continue and you'll be golden.
If you don't want to bother with scrolling, you can open the txtsetup.oem file and find this line (near the top):
     [Defaults]
    scsi = iaStor_ICH8MEICH9ME
    Change that to:
     [Defaults]
    scsi = iaAHCI_ICH9MEM
And the proper controller will be highlighted by default so you don't have to arrow through the list.
If all of that is too much of a pain, you can go in to the BIOS under Config->SATA and change AHCI to Compatibility and load Windows w/o the IMSM driver.  Once Windows is loaded, you can install the driver and enable AHCI mode using the install.cmd file in the PREPARE directory of the driver linked above.
    Hope this helps.

  • T420s-NVIDIA NVS 4200m shows up as Standard VGA

    Hey all,
So I've had this problem for a while now, I know that in my T420s there is a NVIDIA NVS 4200m GPU, but it refuses to recognize that it even exists. I'm running it in NVIDIA Optimus mode, but in Device Manager, all that shows up under the Display Driver are Intel(R) HD Graphics and  another which says Standard VGA Graphics adapter (which can't start due to a 'Code 10')
Why is it that my NVIDIA doesn't show up? How can I get my T420s to recognize and use it over the Intel HD?
Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I got my new T420s today with nVidia NVS 4200M and after turning it on, it just showed standard video with 1024x768.
In device manager it showed both standard VGA graphics and NVIDIA NVS 4200M but when I right clicked on the desktop it did not give me an option to choose nVidia, but just standard VGA.
I updated the nVidia graphics driver from here (7 Nov 2011, the one from April 2011 was not enough)
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014142
I installed, restarted and nVidia showed up with all display options
    Problems resolved!

  • HP dv6 Notebook freezes or get BSOD from AMD High-Definition Driver

My laptop (with switchable graphics) started to randomly get BSODs and I tried to fix this problem by restoring my notebook to its factory settings. Despite this, I still received quick BSODs before my computer shut down or froze, and i have reset my notebook several times.
I am nearly certain that it is my graphics driver. Every time I run the CCC and run programs under "High Performace" my computer proceeds to crash. Likewise, if I attempt to run a game my screen freezes.
When I disable the AMD driver in Device Manager my computer works fine (except games won't run and certain aesthetic things like resolution are changed). Also, when the driver is enabled and I boot my laptop, the laptop will freeze or get a quick BSOD at the boot screen ("Starting Windows"). I have to shut down and turn my computer back on repeatedly and then occasionally the computer will manage to boot up again.
I have a HP dv6-6170us with AMD Radeon 6770M, and my operating system is Windows 7 (64-bit).
I greatly need help with this situation and have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again off HP's website just to have it still not work again.
    Thanks!

    Hello mr_edgeworth.
I understand you believe a graphics issue is causing your computer to freeze or produce a BSOD. I will do my best to assist you!
First, we need to determine if the issue is hardware or software-based. Please follow the steps in this document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01896793

  • Cannot install intel widi software on T530 - i7-3520M, NVS 5400M & HD 4000, Intel N6300

Hi, I recently bought a T530, when I placed the order, I contacted Lenovo support that my machine supports widi.
    Here is the spec:
    CPU: i7-3520M
Video card: NVS 5400m And HD Graphics 4000
    Network: Intel Ultimate 6300N
My machine comes with Win 8 on 500G HDD, I replaced the HDD with 256G SSD and installed win7 on the SSD.
I downloaded widi software fron Lenovo site (actually tried the one on Intel as well, same result), I got this message:
The platform is not compatible with Intel WiDi or the application is in use, please see log for more details"
I checked the log, here it is:

So, how can I get it working?

I'm not quite sure if this will work for you, but when I bought a NetGear PTV3000 Wireless Display Adapter, I could not get the Intel WiDi software to connect to the NetGear.
I found that the problem was with the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi software. When you install the PROSet driver, you *MUST* install the "Intel My WiFi Technology" or else the Intel WiDi drivers will not find the WiDi displays.
See the following post on the Intel forums:  http://communities.intel.com/thread/31556
    I hope this helps.
