Hello,
Is it possible to make keyboard backlight permament?
It would be nice if it worked all of the time. I had such option in my Dell Vostro and i really miss this feature.

People have asked about this on other threads but so far no one has found a way to programmatically control the backlighting. I agree that it would be a useful feature.

I merge projects in aperture, it works fine until aperture restarts. After aperture restarts, the projects are no longer merged, and are back the way they were. Can anyone suugest how to make the merge permanent?

I tried the first aid tasks but the issue is still there. I have more info now though. It's not a problem with merging.
The problem is that new projects are being generated everytime aperture starts (with the same name, ie 01, 02.... and 01 (1), 02 (1) .....)
When aperture start, it shows "importing". When I click on importing, it goes into the activity box. In the activity box, has many lines as below. The added projcts are all empty. It's annoying because i have many useless projects being generated.

Manual says F5 and up/down arrow, but that doesn't change the level.

I have a Envy dv7 quad with a similar issue and don't have the proximity software installed - at least it is not in my programs list. Also look at the bleed. Note keys P, 1, 0, ', and a couple of others look just fine. What gets me the most is when the backlight is off, the bleed from the wireless F12 key.
I purchased last month and the first keyboard was worse. I have pics of it. I called and laptop was to be replaced. However a few days later, HP returned the original with nothing done. I called support this time and sent the laptop off to have the keyboard replaced. This is what I just got back today and it is now 6+ weeks since my order and $2600 for this.
I am now thinking send it back and get my money back and look for a Toshiba. Proximity software may help me think otherwise. However, I am not sure I want to live with all this bleed. Especially if I want to watch a movie. Just the F12 on is a big distraction.

How to make a link permanent?

i'm designing a brochure with text and jpeg images. as it stands the images have to be sent separately to my printer--they dont "live" in the file and automatically become a part of it the way they do in photoshop; they are merely linked. is there a way to make jpegs a permanent part of the file so that even if the original jpeg is lost or not available, the file will look and print just as well?

You can use like Embed option for link permanent, but its increases your files size. Because you are adding that image to your file to do this follow below steps.
Go to links panel (Shift+Ctrl+D)
Do any of the following:
Choose Embed Link in the Links panel menu.
If there are multiple instances of the file, choose Embed All Instances of [Filename] in the Links panel menu.
(To embed only one instance, select it and choose Embed Link)

How to make update method permanent once and forever?

Every time I get an update to Flash and install it, at the end of the install I get the three update choices of ‘Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended)’, ‘Notify me to install updates’ and ‘Never check for updates (not recommended)’. Every time I choose the second option and every single subsequent time there is an update I have to go through the same procedure again because the first option becomes selected. I do NOT want Adobe to perform automatic updates. Is there a way to set it to notify me of updates but never bug me to change my update method? I have tried changing the setting through the Control Panel but this doesn’t make any difference either. I just want to be notified of updates but not be pestered with those same three options EVERY time.

This answer is NOT working. The line "SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0" is already present. And it still queries for the annoying question, even when asked and answered ad nauseum.
Adobe should in the very next update, as a minimum, make it such, that the chosen value in "Choose your update method:" remains PERMANENT and FOR EVER until the user changes it. It is WILDLY annoying to have to answer this question over and over and over and over and over and over again. Make a new value or something that will be written to the mms.cfg file, that will permanently understand this setting, I Want to update, but I want to know when and how and why, and I especially want to do it myself - Automatic updates can for novice users be nice, until it screws up the entire system - but for super user level or above it is an annoyance, that programs do not respect the answers of the user. It SHOULD ask this question ONCE, and never ever there after - unless the user changes the behaviour, in e.g. the mms.cfg file.
I hope this is crystal clear --- it should be, and I cannot fathom that millions of other users are not annoyed by this popup box ... When i press "DONE" ... it should be EXACTLY THAT - notify me to install updates, BUT NOT to ask it every time what "update method" i want to use -- i've only told you a million times before --- just freaking get the answer and understand it.

I have a bunch of text edit fields. When the user clicks on one of them the keyboard comes up. But they can touch on another field before they click the DONE button on the keyboard, then they might be editing two fields. I am currently closing off the edit when another one opens up but is there a simpler way, to make the keyboard entry modal so that no other touches can happen until then?

I can't figure out how to make a file permanently "un-hidden"

So this is the story. My wife downloaded a virus that I couldn't fix on the PC. I thought it was a good excuse to move to mac for good. So I bought a Mac Pro and am running Lion. The problem is that the virus made the music and movie files on my hard drive "Hidden Files" I have been able to see them throught the help of the program "Houdini" as well as the comand line instructions found in the forums. But I haven't found a way to make the files on my external drive permanantly "visable". Is there away in OSX 7.3 to do that? I have looked and looked but found nothing online or in support forums. Again I am just looking to make the files i the external USB drive visable. I also want to add that I have two drives and that simply transfering them to the other drive by dragging the root "Music and Movies" folder didn't work. They still show up on the new drive as being "Invisable"

How can I prevent it from resting my write defaults so it keeps them permanently?

Try one of these two options:
If you are Windows you might want to reinstall it.
If you are on Mac then you may want to trash the preferences.

Ok. So I just got the Mavericks update. And now when I hold down a letter (in order to add an accent mark to it), it won't work anymore. Does anyone know how to fix this!?!? Because Apple sure doesn't. Please help

I have not moved to Mavericks, all my accents work as before using the option key, so if it has changed, try posting this in the Mavericks or I guess it is this one

All the things I have done in the past, previous to Mavericks have worked as normal with the option key and a mod key.
Like I mentioned before I do not as of yet have Mavericks. so I can not advise you in any certainty.

How to make a permanent change to AW margins

I had to do a erase and re-install for leopard.
I had changed the margins so that they were a permanent change but the re-install brought be back to the original default settings.
I can not find any notes how I did it, and there is nothing under margins in a "missing manual' that mentions it.
Can someone remind me of the way to make the change permanently,
obviously I can do it each time using document but its annoying.

Where were you when you did this? From your description above, you seem to be in AppleWorks, with a document open.
Get Info is a menu item in the Finder's File menu. In the Finder, command-I is a keyboard shortcut for the File > Get info... menu item. That menu item is not available in any ot the AppleWorks modes.
Command-I will produce a Get Info window only if you are in the Finder (the first three items in the Menu Bar will be  Finder File), and have selected a file's icon icon by clicking on it once. When you have selected a file you can go to the File Menu and choose Get Info..., or you can press command-I.

The easiest way is probably to delete the existing file, then recreate the template.
Quit AppleWorks, go to the Finder, Locate and Delete the file.
Launch AppleWorks, Open a new word processor document, Set the margins (and make any other settings that you want as default values in new word processor documents), then go File > Save as...
In the Save as dialogue, click the Template radio button at the bottom right of the dialogue window.
Change the document name from untitled.cws to AppleWorks WP Options.cws
(Appleworks will have changed the .cwk suffix to .cws when you clicked the Template button. The application will also have navigated to the Templates folder, which is where this template must be saved to work correctly.)
Check that;
—the file name is correct ( AppleWorks WP Options.cws )
—you are in the Templates folder (popup menu below the file name says Templates)
—the Template radio button at the bottom of the dialogue window is selected.
Then click Save.
The dialogue will close, leaving you in the word processor document. The document's title bar sould still say "untitled (WP)". Go File > Close (or click the red Close button) to close the file. Click *Don't Save* in the alert that warns you that you have not saved the file.
Your new default options are now set, and will apply to any new word processor document you create using any of the four standard procedures:
1. go File > New > Word processing
2. press command-N
3. click the Word processing button in the button bar
4. click the Word processing button in the Basic pane of Starting Points

How can I turn off or dim the keyboard backlight?

I have a new HP Envy 14 Ultrabook. It has a backlit keyboard. I know many people like that "feature", but I don't. I assumed it would be easy to turn off the light in the control panel (e.g., in the device's settings), but there is no option. I can hit the F5 key to turn off the general lighting, but then that F5 key glows blindingly bright all the time. I want to either completely disable the keyboard backlights, or equivalently set the light level to be dim to the point of being completely off. But I can't find any setting to do that in the power options, device properties, etc. Nor has this question been satisfactorily answered in any other forums that I could find. Thanks in advance for your help.

I haven't tried this on a laptop but I've used it on all kinds of too-bright led's like on the electric toothbrush or the HEPA filter or modem, etc.: Take some nail polish and paint the bulb. A dark color or lighter color depending on how much light you want to block. Sometimes I paint the lights on things completely with dark nail polish and I've never had it cause a problem.
Since the bulb doesn't put out that much lumens it shouldn't hurt it and the worst case scenario would be that the bulb burns out and you replace it, or at least I think that would be the worst case scenario. On my Pavilion the f5 button turns the backlight on and off just fine though the power button is a bit too bright. I may paint it with nail polish. That said, when I do turn my backlight on using f5, it is much too bright and I really wish HP would make this adjustable. Why the heck wouldn't they?? I could paint that light but I really don't want to open up my computer, I'm superstitious that way.
