T430 minidisplay port no sound

Hi all,
I tried to connect my T430 to a LCD TV through mini-display port. I used a mini-display to hdmi adaptor and a HDMI cable. The problem is I only got the picture and the audio cannot be transmitted to TV. The mini-display to hdmi adaptor works fine with mac book pro( surpporting both sound and picture). Are the mini display ports on macbook pro and T430 are different? Or Does it need some extra settings for T430?
Thanks for your kind reply in advance!

It likely they all don't work. There were threads on that with the T520 series. What works on a MAC will not automatically work with a PC!!!
Get another adapter from a PC supplier.

  • Since windows 8.1 usb ports and sound are acting strange

    Hello,
Since I upgraded to windows 8.1 my sound randomly stutters(very anoying) and my usb ports get turned off, only the ports that have been occupied since boot, new things work, and not reinsterting the things that were present at boot, in the same or a different
    port doesn't work.
Hell, why do we pay for an OS that doesn't even work?
I expect that something as simple as an USB port or sound would work just fine.
I have installed all the latest drivers but somehow windows seems to screw things up.
When I boot up debian, I have no problems at ALL. And did I pay a dime for Debian? No, it is free.
I am getting really depressed here, paying for stuff that doesn't work.
So does anyone know any other way to fix this OS than by breaking the disc and never return to it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Port replicator sound issues

Hi. I have a Lenove x300 laptop (running XP) hooked up to a Lenovo port replicator. I have external speakers hooked up to the port replicator. Recently, the speakers have stopped working. If I plug the speakers directly into my laptop, they work fine, but if I plug them into the port replicator, the sound comes out of the laptop, not the external speakers. I recently installed ITunes and Audacity. Is it possible that's what caused the problem? If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

How did you do this?  I dont see an option for changing the port in the Control Panel -> Sound ->Playback menu.
Ive been to many other blogs and threads and your the only who may have found the solution.
    thanks

  • T430 left palmrest clicking/snapping sound

I just received a new T430 less than a week ago, and ever since I first handled it, the left palmrest has been making clicking/snapping sounds even under light pressure. This region of the palmrest appears to be above the SmartCard reader. Video of this phenomenon is below.

Is this normal? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

This computer was sent to the depot, and they replaced the palmrest, which fixed the problem.

  • Headphone jack broken in port; no sound

I own a 13" MBP (May 2010) running Mac OSX [Snow Leopard, updated regularly - two clean installs since issue occurred]. In December, I was trying to capture audio for a presentation through a dated/borrowed microphone. The microphone's jack broke off inside of my Macbook. Since then, I have no longer been able to output audio through my port.
    CheatSheet of facts
40% Of the port is blocked by the tip of a headphone/microphone/3.5mm cable.
    Blockage is not removable

    Applecare is expired
Mac OSX doesn't produce sound - in fact all controls are disabled. Audio options are greyed out on my toolbar, no controls available in Applications/Audio MIDI Configuration.
I have reinstalled Mac OS 2 times
Hard drive crashed, physical defect recognized and rectified by a AppleCare Tech
Windows 7 Ultimate (64) installed through Bootcamp - sound is produced when in Windows
Willing to write some AppleScript to disable the port, if someone can give me some help
TL;DR - Broke a 3.5mm jack in my headphone port on my MBP; Sound is no longer produced under MacOSX, but does occur in Windows 7, loaded through Bootcamp.

  • USB ports and sound have stopped working

As the subject reads, all 3 of my USB ports have stopped working and all sound.  In the device manager I receive a (code 10) for realtek high definition audio.  I have done everything I can think of at this point, I have even done a complete OS reinstall. Afterwards I have also updated with every possible driver file I can find from realtek and toshiba, I really don't know what else to do at this point, any thoughts? advice? anybody else with this problem?

Same here. I have an L505D that is doing the same exact thing. No sound device, all USB ports not working and the SD card reader not working either. Also when you close the lid and reopen it, the machine won't wake up. Have to restart to get it to come back. Haven't found ANYTHING in forums to help.
Sound devices, USB ports and SD card doesn't show up in the Device Manager.
Took the laptop to a local fixer-upper. Unhooked the charger, took battery out, put battery back in, then restarted the laptop without being hooked up to the charger and everything came back on. But only for a short while. After a couple of days, it does its thing all over again.
Are we looking at a mother board issue here? SURELY someone out there in cyber space has a solution.

  • Audio line-in analog port - no sound

I have an MP3 player plugged into the audio line in port. I cannot hear the audio. I have selected the correct input config (audio line in). I have all my volumes and mutes in the correct positions. I can see the audio is modulating the VU meter yet no sound comes out. I can also play music just fine from iTunes or other files on the computer. What is the problem here? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Good Point. I am using Sirius. I do realize you can use their streaming audio but there is less info and control. I have the home adapter kit and just thought when not in the car.....
Shouldn't pumping the audio out from the radio go through the audio input on the iMac?
Also, streaming isn't all that perfect. Rebuffering, interrupted connections, etc. uses bandwidth and processor resources or so I think. I don't wish to record just play back. I know I have used the audio input on my G3 iMac with a video camera but perhaps that was because I was recording therefore the sound monitor was turned on. I just don't remember. I really think I have a setting or box checked wrong somewhere.
Thank you for your response. No matter how much info is posted on a support site it never compares to talking with other users.
I'll keep digging. Have a nice weekend.

  • Tecra A11 minidisplay port no sound

Hello. I have the same problem as asko78. I have tried the suggested solution with no result. I can not change the status of the hdmi sound controllers because they are reported as "no conected". The displayport 2 hdmi wire is positively conected. The image on my TV is fine. Any clues could be greatly appreciated. The TV set is an "OKI" if it matters. Thank you
    Javier

More on the same matter. In the Windows sound manager there are 3 devices: HDMI, speakers and earphones. Below both HDMI an earphones are a red icon (disconnected). If I plug an earphone jack the corresponding icon turns green (connected) an I can use the earphones as the sound device. The same should happend with the minidisplay port, I suppose, but if I plug the port jack, nothing happens. It remains red (not connected). Obviously the computer does not notice the jack being connected, in the sound side. Why?. I don't know if it is a software or hardware problem. My adapter states it can carry sound signals... Any clues?. TIA

You need to make connection by yourself. Here are instructions fo Audigy 2 Zs.
NOTE: X-Fi's J (Proprietary connector) pin order (and colour of the connector) may vary from oreder of Zs's (like it did on Audigy 2). You can easily find the pins for I/O by trying or measuring.

  • Mini display port surround sound

    Hi there.
I've hooked up my 13" macbook pro to my Onkyo av amp using a Cablesson mini display to HDMI adaptor. I'm then into the amp via XO Cables HDMI. In theory everything supports up to 8 channels. When I play a movie though I get stereo. DVD player seems to try playing 5.1 but just sends it to front left and right. Playing a movie in iTunes though plays pink noise if I select the surround sound option but plays stereo fine.
Am i missing something here? feels like it does not support 5.1 but all the specs say it does. Any ideas much appreciated.

all sorted. Got to go into Audio Midi set up and oddly select 2ch 24bit. Then it works. Yay!

  • After 10.9.3 upgrade no sound on digital/optical port

    Hello All,
I have a problem with my Mini (Early 2009, 2GHz Core2Duo). After recent Mavericks upgrade to 10.9.3, sound through digital optical output port dissapeared.
    1. I checked receiver's input, works with other devices on the same cable.
    2. Cable output light is red (as always, seem Mac Mini transmitter works???)
    3. Mavericks says that optical wire is connected to the port, in sound preferences there is digital/optical output available.
    4. Speaker icon on Top Bar is greyed out and volume slider unavailable to adjust.
    5. PRAM/NVRAM reset didn't help.
    6. Receiver doesn't recognise signal because input led says Analog, normally Digital should be there.
    Maybe this is a bug?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Kamil

    Hey Guys,
After recent SMC+EFI update on Macbook Air (Mid 2013) OSX v10.9.3, my internal audio device disappeared,
I tried everything I could find in google with no luck. (NPRAM+SMC reset, reloading kents etc.)
THIS IS WHAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR ME:
    1. I opened /System/Library/Extensions folder, there I found besides the usual AppleHDA.kext, also an AppleHDA.kext.disabled one.
    2. I switched between them (swapped their names, sometimes you'll have to do it from the "get info" menu to take effect)
-- if you don't have this AppleHDA.kext.disabled one, try searching for one lil older than yours in the internet
    3. then I unloaded and reloaded the kent dir again-
    sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
    sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
    And voila!
Hope it helps someone, as I spent hours until getting this to work again

  • Skype sound with port replicator

I'm on a new Portege M780 tablet w/ Win 7 Prof and attached to a port replicator.  I have changed the output sound to the laptop even when connected to the port replicator.  (The normal default when connected to the replicator has output from the replicator sound playback port.)  With the adjusted through-the-laptop setting, all sound plays through the laptop speakers (which is what I want), except for Skype, which still outputs through the port replicator sound port.  Can this be changed to what I want: sound from Skype out the laptop speakers?

  • I have a record player hooked up through the audio port.  The input volume is registering high, but there is no output anywhere.  Help?

I have a record player hooked up to a preamp which is hooked up through the audio port. The sound settings are set to have the audio port be "input".  The input volume is registering high with fluxuations in the sound settings, but there is no output anywhere.  Do I need some sort of third party application or widget to hear the record i'm playing through the speakers that are hooked up to my computer?

    keithstopher,
You may want to check into a USB interface, as I believe you have a Mac with the single audio port, which can be used as input OR output.
You may want to check into something like the following, there are may out there, see what fits your needs best.

  • Apple TV (atv) no sound via optical or analog BUT sound through HDMI

    Hi all,
This is my first post into the forums. I spent some time searching for problems with Apple TV audio and as a result I think I already know the answer to my question, but would appreciate a second opinion.
My Apple TV is about 1.5 years old (no AppleCare) and has been working fine up until last week. I am using two audio connections:
    1) HDMI to the TV (with tiny speakers)
    2) digital optical out to the receiver (with bigger speakers... receiver has no HDMI input)
We've been watching videos (youtube, etc) through the TV speakers (over HDMI) for a while, because we we had to keep things very quiet in our apartment. Then one day we wanted to watch a movie, so we turned on the receiver... to the overwhelming sound of silence.
Rebooted repeatedly times, pulled the power cord out, let it cool off, etc etc. Tried a restart via the diagnostic menu... still no output over optical. I tried analog... no sound there, either. I swapped out RCA cables for the analog connections, tested it with a CD player so I know that the cables are good, and the ports on the receiver are good.
So after all that troubleshooting, audio works over HDMI, but not optical or analog.
Then I pulled out the digital optical cord and looked into the port. Sounds silly, but usually there's a red light on when the ATV is on, right? (or for any device with digital optical connections, for that matter). There was no light. I looked at the end of the optical cable, which was still hooked up to my receiver. The tip of the cable was definitely lit up.
So... my guess is that somewhere within the logic board, there's some sort of component failure on the optical/analog outputs. Has anyone had this happen to them?
    Now, regarding options:
I read one post in the forum that says the repair cost is approx 2/3 the cost of a new unit... ATV retails on the Apple web site for $229, which pegs the repair price at approx $151. Does that sound right to others? Having taken a look at the teardown guides, I'm sure this will be a "replace the logic board" repair, which will probably be one of the most expensive options.
    Thanks very much!

    Cubehead wrote:
I have the same exact setup as you. Fortunately for me, mine works well. I can't speak to the ATV replacement option, but I do have a suggestion. On my Denon receiver, I have to assign the optical input from the ATV to the receiver (it does not happen automatically).
Good advice...but I'd assumed they'd had it working successfully before.
This may sound simplistic, but just checking to see if you ever went through that process. Also, just curious to see if this setup ever worked for you. In reading your post, it sounds like this is the first time you had ever used your receiver with the ATV.
