T430s Doesn't Turn on - Lights Flash Once

Hi,
I'm trying to fix a friend's T430s and the issue is that it doesn't turn on. With the battery plugged in, nothing happens. No lights and no sounds. When I plug the adapter in the buttons along the top of the keyboard (volume mute, power, etc.) and then they turn off and nothing. The motherboard was replaced, but the issue remains.
Any tips or trick are much appreciated
Thanks

  • Tc4400 won't turn on, light flashes once

I've seen a lot of similar posts, but none with this exact issue. Please forgive my lack of computer knowledge and proper terms, I've never had to learn any of these things before. I had bought my computer used from an office liquidation sale, so it wasn't in the best shape to begin with, but it met my school requirements and I've grown fond of it, so if there's any way I can fix it I'd like to.
I've checked the little battery meter light thing & 3 of the 4 lights turn on, so I assume that means the battery isn't dead, but when I try turning the computer on nothing happens. I've done the whole thing with removing the charger & battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds (even tried holding it longer just on the off chance it would do something,) and all that happens is a singe quick flash of the power light when I put the cord back and then when the battery is back the light is green then orange and off, but it only shows up once.
I don't know if this is related at all, but in the few days before this happened a Flash file I had been working on for about a month suddenly became corrupted and basically erased itself, then my Windows 7 Ultimate was deemed counterfeit; the screen had become super sensetive to the pen a few weeks ago and I noticed a couple of the wires for the screen were broken, but those were broken when I got it.
Is it a battery issue or something more?

  • USB 6251 Active light flashes once on power up, then no activity

    Hi,
My USB-6251's active light flashes once when turned on, followed by no further activity by either Active or Ready lights (both are off). The computer shows no recognition of the device. This is when plugged into a confirmed operating wall outlet and attached to a computer that previously recognized and used the device. I opened the device and can confirm that the replaceable fuse is not broken. Any ideas?
    Cody

If you have been able to talk to the device before, then I am assuming that something must have gone wrong with the device itself. Best is to call NI's customer services and get the device repaired.

  • Front LED Light Flash Once Every 3 Seconds

As what I read from the previous post, the front LED light flash once every 3 seconds meant that rams were not installed. However, I can turn on the G5 (Tower) couple days ago. After I came back from vacation, it did not allow me to turn it on. In addition, I have already tried to reseat the ram, and it did not work. Any suggestion to fix this problem?

Hi Teddy, and a warm welcome to the forums!
After I came back from vacation, it did not allow me to turn it on.
If it was unplugged from the AC that could drain the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan...
See which one your G5 has...

  • G4 dual 1 gig.. no power, but the light flashes once?

Today I noticed that after I left the computer alone for a while it was shutdown.. I turned it back on and used it for a couple hours, stepped away for 40 minutes and it shut down again. I turned it on, and within 2 minutes the power cutout. Then it wouldn't turn on at all, I would push the power button on the front panel and the light would flash like it normally would when it was powering up, but no fan whirling and of course no power.
So.. after trying to reset the PMU, it turned on, I zapped the PRAM, and right as it was loading the desktop, it's died again. And now it won't come on, just flashes once when I try and turn it on (the power button light).
Is this a sure indicator of a dead or near death Power Supply?

Could be a bad battery. Have you ever changed it?
I would check it first. When mine went, I had no response from my Mac at all; just a light on my power button; absolutely no boot at all.
Check out things in Texas Mac Mans tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's) but the info in it, except SMU not being included, still applies.
    Cheers!

  • Mac Pro will not boot, power light flashes once and then Mac switches off

One of our Mac Pro's will not boot. When pressing the power button the light will come on briefly and the Mac will just turn off again.
I have unplugged the power cable and held down the power button for 10 seconds but this did not help.
Any suggestions for me before I call up Apple?

Most indications from flashing power lights are telling you that there is not enough working memory to start up.

  • Emac will not turn on (lights flash)

today when i turned my eMac on it was fine then it said to shut off so i did. When i turnedi t back on the little white light just flashed
    eMac G4 1.25ghz 512 mb of ram   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

    Hi patty b,
A couple of questions to clarify where you stand....
    1. I notice that by your computer specs in your topic that you are running 10.0.x Is this correct? It just struck me as odd that an eMac 1.25 Ghz G4 would have 10.0.x installed and not at least 10.2. Jaguar. This can matter when troubleshooting your problem.
    2. By your topic it sounds as if you experienced a Kernel Panic when "it said to shut off". When you tried to turn it back on you say that the "littel white light just flashed". Can you clarify? I assume you are referring to the power light on the front of the eMac? Would you say the the light is flashing or pulsing? I ask this as a pulsing light is indicative of the computer sleeping. You topic sounds more as if the light is rapidly flashing?
    3. Can you let us know if you had (near the time of this occurence) changed anything in regards to your computer or system software? As well as you can remember can you remember what you were doing with the computer at the time? Such as having multiple/many applications open at one time.
All this info will build a better picture of the state of your computer then/now to help better troubleshoot.
    best,

  • Power button flashes once and wont turn on.

When I press the power button on the computer the power button light flashes once and won't turn on when I plug the a.c. adapter in it shows that it's charging and plugged in, but anytime I press the power button it flashes once but will never turn on! :/ I tried unplugging the adapter hold the power button for 30 seconds and connecting the adapter back to the computer but it does the same thing.. Any advice would be AMAZING! Thanks !
The computer is compaq Presario cq62-215dx

Remove everyhting from your pc. INCLUDING KEYBOARD. and try again. On 2 different occassions the keyboard was to blame. Some spill on keyboard caused motherboard not to power up.
Remove KB, Ram, Hdd, DISPLAY (Lcd cable might be shorting as well) etc.etc. Leave motherboard alone but   power sithc connected. Even if you disconnect the fan cable it would help. If you see anything on your screen after you removed fan too then turn it off immediately and connect the fan back and try again then add up other components one by one. If none works then i am sorry the board you have is faulty.
or it may need a bios recovery.

    Hey @williamsstudent ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your HP Pavilion 11 x2 notebook will not boot up.
When the Caps Lock light flashes once this is the BIOS indicating there is a CPU failure. You can read about this here: Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps.
The only thing that can be attempted on this notebook that you have not already tried is a hard reset. To do this undock the tablet and press and hold the power button for 8+ seconds. After that try to turn the tablet on.
If this fails you will need to contact phone support for service. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the following link to get the support number for your region: Phone Assist Worldwide.

  • G5 - light flashes 3 times with - but only 1 time without RAM

    Hi,
recently I bought a broken Power Mac G5 (M9032LL/A) which won't start anymore,
so now I'm trying to fix it:
When I turn it on the white LED will flash 1 time every 4 seconds while there is no RAM installed.
After installing 2x or 4x KHX3200A/1G (Kingston Hyper X, DDR, 1 GB) the light flashes 3 times. (unfortunately I havn't got any original RAM strips...)
    Today I found this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2541581&tstart=0
    which says:
    • 2 Flashes: No RAM is installed or detected.
    • 3 Flashes: Incompatible RAM types are installed.
    • 4 Flashes: No RAM banks passed memory testing.
    • 5 Flashes: No good boot images are detected in the boot ROM (and/or there is a bad
    sys config block).
    • 6 Flashes: The processor is not usable.
I didn't try the hair dryer trick yet
-> but why is the light flashing once only without any RAM?
    Any suggestions?

"Instead, there is a single tone, and the
    computer’s front LED flashes continuously."
-> there is no beep or tone at all...
-> The front LED flashes once every 4 seconds.
    What I forgot to mention:
One of the end snap-in bracket holders of the upper/inner RAM-slot is broken...
(was already when I bought it)
However - the stick still fits in perfectly.

  • 2950 appears dead System Light Flashing stat light stays on

I think I have a dead switch. However, I figured I would see if anyones had a similar situation. When I power the device up the stat light comes on and stays on. Then the port lights flash once then the system light starts flashing. Once the system light starts fashing the switch appears to hang. It's not responding from the console port. The other switch is I have is a 2950 as well and it's responds via the terminal emulation settings I've set up. I think I know the answer, but I'm indulging in a little wishful thinking. Lastly I hold down the mode button for 15 to 30 sec and I dont get any change in status. Should I feed this switch to my garbage can?

If the console port does not respond, there is not a whole lot you could do. If you have a service contract, open a TAC service request and get it replaced.

  • Keyboard Lights flashing on BIOS initialization

This thread has been started in relation to my other thread.
Does anyone know if there is a list identifying what the sequence of flashing lights (num lock, scroll lock, caps lock) mean? In specific, for the MSI 990XA-GD55 mobo.
I am familiar with the lights flashing once on all other BIOS initialization routines, but mine flash about 10 times, and it would be nice to know if this indicating an error, and if so I would like to be able to identify the sequence, but cannot find any information.
Also, the BIOS seems to take a long time to initialize (about 20 secs).
Unfortunately I dont have a speaker on my PC, so I dont know if it is also sounding some beep's. :(
    Thanks in advance.

  • Phone doesn't turn on, solid red light, requires send back BUT I have a request.

I've essentially figured out that my Z10 needs to be returned for some sort of warranty / repair, however I'm really hoping that we can request that the data on the phone be saved rather than it just be lost forever. Is this possible? There are many important notes that haven't been backed up.
Symptoms: Phone doesn't turn on, red light comes on solid for a few minutes and then turns off. Connecting it to a computer doesn't result in anything (no computer connection, no change in phone).
I am with Bell, and I even live in Kitchener (I could personally drop into BB to sort this out) I wanted to check here as a last resort before sending it back.
    Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I used these steps from Geek Squad and it worked for me.
    Restore BB10
When a BlackBerry 10 device is only flashing the red light and refusing to boot up, this indicates that the device’s operating system has become corrupted. The flashing light may follow the pattern of 1, 2 or 3 short blips, with a longer pause between the sets.
In order to fix this, you need to re-install the operating system on the device, which will then set the device back to its original factory state.
Please note: this process will completely wipe your device, so please make sure you have a backup of your personal information available to restore before going through this process.
Download and install the latest version of BlackBerry Link for your computer.
    Open BlackBerry Link software.
Plug in the BlackBerry device using your USB cable.
At the bottom left of the program, find the device you're having issues with and select it by clicking on it.
The BlackBerry Link application will then ask to either reconnect or reload the device software. Choose Reload.
Confirm the reload when prompted to do so, which will wipe clean any data previously on the handset.
Allow the reload to complete, which can take some time. Whilst this is underway, the device will have a solid green light. This process of downloading and reinstalling the device can take an hour or more, depending on the speed of your internet connection, soplease don't disconnect the BlackBerry until the process has finished.
Once the restore is complete, simply set up your device again, or restore it from a previous backup stored on your machine. However, if you want to restore a previous backup, remember to sign in to your BlackBerry ID on the device first! If you're not sure how to do this, we have a full guide available.
The good news is, this process is almost identical on both PC and Apple Mac. Simply follow the same process as above. Finally, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

You can try removing and reseating the memory and see if that works.
If that doesn't work, remove all but one memory module (if the PC has more than one), and see if the PC runs normally with one memory chip. If it beeps, remove and replace with the memory you removed and keep doing that until you find the bad memory chip.

  • My ipod touch flashed once and wont turn back on

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
