T430s fan noise and fan speed monitor not working?

Hi, I just bought this T430s from the outlet store. I noticed a rather loud fan noise and found out s lot of compalints about the T430 model. I guess the problem I have is not as severe as those T430 users (e.g. the noise may not be as loud), but I still want to monitor the fan speed. Here's my problem:
1. none of the third party software can show fan speed, they can only show the cpu temperature, such as speedfan and aida64.
2. I tried to download the fanspeedcontrol driver from lenovo, but after installing it, the task manager does not show that the fanspeedcontrol exe. is working.
I do not want to change the fan speed, but just want to monitor the speed so that I can have a better understanding of whats going on. Does anyone have the similar problem?

Hi Alan, (I know this conversation was from several months back),
I don't know the answer to your questions. It seems that your fan is operational, as far as its most basic functional requirement.
I don't have experience with any particular software programs or widgets that indicate fan speed, sorry.
Do you have any view, through software, of the CPU (and GPU?) sensed temperature? Those would be very good data to observe.
If it were either disconnected or non-functional, I assume that your computer would report a POST error right after power-on (and self test).
But I just wanted to suggest here that in an unfortunate possible scenario, consider if the thermal grease on the heat sink(s) was inadequate (or was missing), then the fan would be running higher than normal (probably always spinning at a high rate), and it won't be taking enough heat away from the processor(s), i.e. inadequate cooling.
Which could be corrected by a technician (or DIY). This is pure speculation, it is not a definite, at all.

Fan Noise and Application Speed/shutdown issues

Hey, I'm a new mac user, so I've d/led some programs and such and am also just getting acclimated to the mac after being a PC guy for 15 or so years. In this regard, bear with me.
Anyway, I bought the computer under the pretense that it would run smoother and be less buggy/virus-affected than a PC. And while I've certainly found no virus issues (I've had it 4 days), it seems to be a bit bug bitten. I do not know whether or not its a certain thing affecting it or multiple things, owing to my lack of mac knowledge, but I thought I'd see if anyone here had any thoughts.
I've had a relatively loud fan from the start - it is not loud all loud all the time and it does not even stay loud after it gets loud, but it seems to get loud quicker than say a healthy PC would. Additionally, I've had a couple of programs run slow/stutter - both Safari and a thing I D/Led from VersionTracker (which I had never heard of until diving into the mac world) called GraphicConverter (to sort photos/pictures). GraphicConverter has crashed once on me, and additionally the icon for the mouse seems to remain 'attached' to the design for the tool even when opening menus. With Safari, it additionally crashed once (I was running to leave and wanted to check e-mails and such but don't recall right now exactly what site I was on when it happened) and has problems with running slow or not opening webpages quickly after having acquired a decent sized cache. This, as a PC guy, would make sense to me if my computer had ~2gigs or less space, but this computers got about ~93gigs. All of these things, with a brand new computer, are concerns to me.
I guess an aside question would be is Safari the best graphics-intensive browser for mac? Beyond this, really if anyone has insight into whether or not these are problems which are common and/or have simple, common solutions or if they are things to take up with Apple, I'd appreciate it.

Hi NewMac, welcome to apple forums
The Macbook Pro has 2 fans that can get up to 6000 rpm, they can get pretty "loud" at times.
There are a few things you might find usefull to know from now on.
1. On your harddrive in the Applications folder go to the Utilities folder and find Disk Utility. Once opened select your drive on the left and click "verify permissions". Since i'm dutch i lack the vocabulary to explain what this does but it keeps your system in overall good shape if you do this occasionally If it finds and displays a list with "permissions are... but should be...." let it finish and then click "repair permissions". This can solve simple issues with applications and preferences making apps run smoother.
2. Onyx, a maintenance app recomended for all OS X users, you can find it and read what it does here:

3. Monitor your mac, i find this is easiest to do with the widget iStat Pro.
You can keep an eye on memory use, computer temperature, fan speeds etc.

After 15 years of PC you will need some time adjusting and getting used to things but once you get the hang of it you will be the happy camper u were hoping to become when you purchased your mac

T430s - Disk-activity and wireless indicator lights not working

Just noticed that the indicator lights on the T430s are not working. There is a wireless and a disk activity light that are not lit up or blinks during activity. Located just left of the T430s sign on the lower half of the laptop cover.

Just got this Laptop and the audio is not working for videos

My operating system is Windows 8.1 with Bing. I just got this laptop computer for my college work and love it, but my audio does not work when I watch Videos. The laptop makes a weird tappign noise often. I need my audio to work for my course work online. The audio when I watch videos online either does not work at all or it breaks up as I am handling the laptop in the m hands. I have already did troubleshooting tests on the laptop and it can not find any problems but I know something is not right due to the noise and now my audio not working Please help me or tell me how HP can fix my laptop in a speedy mannor. It needs to go to the shop. That noise irritates me and I know that any kind of laptop pc is not suppose to make noises like that. The audio must work for my to complete my college homework and classwork online.

The Battery icon with the "X" indicates that your computer does not detect a battery and is operating on electrical power from AC since your computer is plugged in. If your battery is installed but not detected that indicates a problem: 1. the battery is dead; 2. the battery connector is not functioning properly. You mention that there is no response from the indicator lights so it could be either of the two possibilities. The noise is not a good sign. Best to shut it down safely while you can to prevent any possibility of damage and get it to an Apple Genius Bar or Authorized Apple Service Provider to discover the nature of the problem

Unfortunately, if the drive has failed, there isn't going to be an easy way to retrieve the data. It's possible that a data recovery service could help.

Wacom intros5 and dual monitors not working

I know there are issues with Mavericks, dual monitors & USB, but I have a problem with my Intuos5 tablet: since installing Mavericks it no longer maps to both monitors. Changing settings under monitors and wacom sys prefs does not change anything. It will only map to monitor 1.
in fact mapping under the wacom sys prefs doesn't seem to work at all.
Any ideas other than going back to ML or waiting for a new driver?
Anyone seen behaviour like this?

Good grief, but please a) don't use Apple drivers, b) always use the "troubleshoot compatibility" for any installer (control+click on the application) before running. Apple is treated as not supported and won't install (now) with build 7077 (after feedback finding it causes errors, love the way their feedback and testing really does work).
Boot Camp can 'doorstop' in some cases a good installation.

mine is the ati radeon 2600 hd xt and it worked flawlessly up until about 2-4 days ago,
oh well, xp pro it is then,
i dont want the headache of dealing with windows 7 beta!
xp should be fine to use correct?
will there be any other steps i will need to take in order for everything to function together well?

After BIOS update Intel Speed Step not working on Satellite A500

I upgraded my Satellite A500 PSAM3E model to the newest BIOS 1.50, now the Intel speed step not working!
My CPU is always 2GHz+, I chagned Power Plan to balanced, but no change... with previous the CPU was around 800 MHz.
When I try to change Windows 7 power management and set maximum CPU performance to 50 or 80% the system freezes.

Which older BIOS version did you use before update to 1.50?
I also use the maximum CPU performance option for Eco mode (50%) but this does work properly.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know if you use factory settings or your own Windows installation. Normally after using Toshiba recovery disk you dont have to install any Toshiba tools anymore. Everything is preinstalled on your notebook.

Dual monitors not working in bootcamp?

Recently added 8 more gigs of ram, and after this my video driver shows a triangle with an ! under bootcamp running windows 7,
i have tried countless times to update the driver to no evail
even used the bootcamp drivers from the original discs to repair bootcamp and nothing has helped!!
what can i do?
before the memory upgrade the monitors worked fine under bootcamp, but now they only show 1 and will not show both!!

See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

Suggestions?

- After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod? If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
- If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
