T430s fingerprint reader fails in both windows 7 (64 bit) and ubuntu.

Hi,
I have 4 months with my new t430s, and so far so good, I created a partition to instal ubuntu and I was able to have the finger print reader work in it.
The last week I left the laptop's battery to drain completely, but I did not notice it... I tried to wake it up but my fingerprint would not turn it on... I plug the charger on and the laptop started working again but now, my fingerprint log on was disabled, I had to type my pasword to log in...
From that moment on, this issue consistently occurs in both windows & and ubuntu...
The funny thing is that I can still turn on the laptop with my finger, the fingerprint reader indicator leds are working but the device only works to start the laptop. I have tried to delete the fingerprint data from teh BIOS, but I can still start the laptop, so I dont think this clear data command on the BIOS is doing anything...
I have tried re-installing the device, updating the driver, etc and nothing works, the device appears as unnavailable on the windows biometric devices section of my control panel, so I cannot enroll any new finger print using the lenovo fingerprint software since I get these 3 errors in any attempt:
E7210005 Cannot enroll user.
E7210005 Cannot update passport.
E7210005 Cannot find fingerprint sensor device.
Any ideas?
Is there a way to reset my device from the BIOS so al its data and its state is cleared?
Thanks!
Roberto O.

I have heard of this exact situation one other time, where fingerprint sensor stops working properly after PC unexpectedly turns off due to low battery.  I think your fingerprint sensor has malfunctioned and needs replacement under warranty.  Currently, I do not know of any other solution.
But can you please tell me:
1.  how many fingers do you have enrolled?
2.  do you use any BIOS passwords (such as administrator password, power-on password, or HDD password)?

  • DAC 10.1.3.4.1 Server on Windows (64 bit) and Linux x86 (64 bit)?

    Hi Friends,
Please confirm wheteher Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1 Server is supported on
Windows (64 bit) and Linux x86 (64 bit)
Because from edelivery.oracle.com i could see the downloads only for windows and Linux and not specified as 32/64 - bit
so will it mean that the same dump is used for both 32 and 64 bit
    1) Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1 for Microsoft Windows (V16377-01)
can the above dump is used for both 32 and 64 bit windows?
    2) Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1 for Linux x86 (V16378-01)
can the above dump is used for both 32 and 64 bit Linux?
The reason is because for OBIA 7.9.6.3 configuration both the Informatica Power Centre and DAC Server should co-exist
and i could see seperate installer for 32 and 64 bit for both Windows and Linux whereas i couldn't see it for DAC Server
    Please confirm .
    Regards,
    DB

It is supported on both platforms. With Linux however, if you have any issues you can to install in a windows environment, then copy over the folder structure. Also, you can possibly run into issues running the setup.exe on 64bit windows. When you open the install directory, go to dac/disk1/install and run the executable for win32. win64bit can return an error where it says it cannot create certain temp directories. It is a known java bug you can find in the support website.

  • T440p, WIndows 7: Fingerprint Reader Fails on First Attempt to Log In, Works on Second After Delay

I have a T440p with Windows 7 Pro.  Except on rare occasions, I am unable to log into Windows with my first swipe across the fingerprint reader.   The green light is on when I do the first swipe and it immediately goes off and stays off for around 15 sesconds, during which time another swipe does nothing.  Then the green light will return and a second finger swipe will log me on.
Any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated.  It's made using the fingerprint reader for login impractical, because it's faster to just go to the password screen and log in that way.  Thanks.

I do see a several second delay before the fingerprint reader green light comes on after the login screen appears, but it's no where near as long as the delay I was previously seeing between the first failed swipe and waiting for the light to come on again.  The new driver is a great improvement and make the fingerprint reader work as I recall when I first purchased the T440p--though possibly a bit slower to light up after the login screen appears.  It would be great to see the fingerprint reader light come on more quickly after the login screen appears, but that's a minor thing compared to the failure on the first swipe.
Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to try this driver out.  So far, after a day of use and several times coming out of sleep, I haven't had any failed swipes.

sog, some feedback on that driver:
The installer runs but doesn't give any prompt that it has finished.  I was waiting for something to show, after the progress bars, but it just quits.  Before I restarted, I checked the driver version and saw the new one, so I figured that was all that was going to happen.  Driver is v.285, dated 1/29/15.
Restarted the PC and then put it to sleep (deep sleep mode/Intel Rapid Start).  First swipe does indeed work to login thereafter.
But:  It takes longer for the FP reader light to come on now.  I think it's that same 15 seconds mentioned above.  With the previous driver, the scanner light would come on almost right away with the login screen, but the first swipe wouldn't do anything.  Once the light came on again--that period of seconds, the swipe would work.
With this new driver version, I think that what's changed is that the light simply doesn't come on until whatever is going on in the background has completed.  So, in effect, getting a desktop takes the same amount of time, but with only a single swipe.  --Which isn't a complaint that a login should be able to be effected more quickly with the FP scanner.  Perhaps it can't.  Just reporting how it works now.

  • My HP Probook 450 G0 fingerprint reader is not working WIndows 7

    Hello,
I am trying to enable my HP Probook 450 G0 fingerprint reader.... I tried many driver version of validity sensor... and finally i have currently installed the driver and software that are mentioned in following link....
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/DV4-1240br-FingerPrint-Driver-f...
Both are them working fine (**without any error) But DigitalPersona is showing me the following message on welcome screen.... "The FingerPrint reader is not connected.Connect the reader"....
    OS : Windows 7 Professional
What do you say.....is there any compatibiltiy issue or any hardware issue....or if there any driver mismatch, can someone suggest me the supported driver version....
    Thanks in Advance

I have the same problem as the original poster, and followed the download link you provided only to encounter the exact same issue.  I am using Windows 7 and bought this machine two days ago.  I don't understand why this singular process is this problematic.  I really miss my ASUS K53E and it's face logon feature.
Perhaps HP should take lessons unless they have something better than this "fingerprint reader."  The only consistent feature I am detecting is its inconsistancy.  Oh well, I just won't bother using it, or put a sticker over the thing.
If I have to spend more than an hour troubleshooting a feature of medium to low importance then it was a mistake to purchase the machine (but it was a gift sadly), and it was a mistake to implement the feature and release it without making sure it works.  Pretty weak HP, but not as bad as Toshiba or Gateway/Acer at least--not that it says much.
Anyone have a legit fix for this annoying issue?  Or some third party facial recognition login program instead?

  • Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

My fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work on Windows login anymore (no light on the reader and it doesn't accept any fingerprint) in the past couple of days so have to login using a password. The fingerprint reader works fine in the BIOS and also when I go into the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Reader application i.e. it asks me for a fingerprint. Has this happend to anyone else and has this been caused by a specific MS patch in the last monthly patch cycle?
I have reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 64bit (v 8102) and the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor driver (v 1.6.1.341).
I'm running a W530 and fully patched Windows 8.1 Pro

I downloaded the driver from Lenovo, uninstalled the Lenovo Fingerprint Software, restarted, installed the driver package which actually reinstalled the Fingerprint Software and it worked straight away without re registering my fingerprints. The strange thing is that it stopped working out of a sudden. I couldn't figure out, what caused that....btw the same happened to my bluetooth settings the other day. booting into BIOS, exiting without changing, restart and bluetooth was there again....hmmmm

  • W540 fingerprint reader wont start during windows logon

Greetings to all fellow thinkpad owners,
As the title indicates, i have an issue with my w540's fingerprint function.
My laptop is relatively new ~2 weeks old and as i am on vacation i boot it every 2-3 days just to mess with it.
few days ago i noticed that the fingerprint wont always start in the first boot and wont work in windows log on, however it will work if i lock/sleep the laptop.
some times it would work some other times it wouldnt. now i tried re-installing the driver and now FP doesnt appear at all in the logon.
i also noticed that the fingerprint software made the laptop a bit slower during the windows startup. now that i have removed it the password area appears almost immediately during the logon process.
things i have tried so far:
    1) all drivers are up to date
    2) removed all registered fingerprints, deleted the driver and the FP manager pro
    3) installed the FPmanager pro from the lenovo update system and registered new fingerprints
    4) i only have 1 admin account on windows and the all options are ticked in the FPmanager pro also in biometric settings its ticked to allow users to use FP to log on.
    5) waited for 2-3 minutes in the password area, only the FP led open, but it wouldnt work
the issues persists. FP wont appear on logon but only after sleep/lock.
    my software specifications:
    win7 x64 pro
    antivir
    latests windows updates
lenovo software not installed: password manager, quick control
and nothing crazy installed apart from steam for games and windows office.
is this a hardware problem or something that windows 7 are causing?
thank you for your time and thank you in advance for any reply
    kind regards,

I attempted to reset the policy settings of CSS but then the pop up screen just got stuck:
    - I did a reboot and reset the fingerprint data and password (after exporting the
      settings),
    - uninstalled the fingerprint reader and CSS
    - uninstalled the CSS. I had encountered some issues while uninstalling it
Windows is reporting that the installation log file could not be found. I manually
downloaded the driver from the site and used the installer to remove it from my PC
    - Reinstalled both CSS and Fingerprint driver
    - Import all my security settings (password and fingerprint)
    - Tested CSS and used fingerprint as default login method in battery mode
    - Enabled Single SignIn method in CSS and BIOS
So far so good, the reinstallation fixed the issue. I did recall that there was a windows update before this mayhem on the fingerprint reader started.

  • T420s - fingerprint reader - no software for windows 7

    Hi,
since my last update with 'system update' (active hdd protection and something else) I get an error while logging in into windows with the fingerprint reader.
    Link to image
I am able to start my thinkpad using the fingerprint reader, but logging in into windows and starting the fingerprint reader software leads to that error message. So I removed drivers and software to install again. But I recognized, there are no drivers / software packages for the fingerprint reader for windows 7 anymore on the lenovo server. Also the system update doesn't show anything for that purpose. So I tried installing the windows 8, 8.1 software but I had the same error.
Furthermore, my system update cannot be started with the normal command anymore (tvsu.exe), I have to use the Tvsukernel.exe file in the system update folder. Something went totally wrong here. I tried to reinstall the system update again several times with no success.
Anyone with an idea? Don't want to re set up windows.

  • FIngerprint reader stopped working after windows automatic updates

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Envy j109tx laptop.
From day one the finger print scanner was not working.
After updating hp simplepass it started to work.
Again today I installed some windows update. After that it stopped working.
The light in the fingerprint reader is not turning on.
Is there a fix for this?
    Someone please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    @naga5speed ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  First thing did you do the windows update due to your system having some issue?
If not then do a system restore back before the update.
It is probably some microsoft update that is conflicting with the driver.
It is good to keep your system up to date.  But it is better to make sure before you run an update that you take a look as to why you are updating.
Do I need to fix an issue?
If i do not do the update will something stop working?
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If this fails to work then you may have to back up your data and run a system recovery.  The reason for this is what ever update you ran has made changes to system files or the registry that a restore will not fix.

  • Re: Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

    Model: ThinkPad Edge E420
OS:       Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
Problem: Fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working (Image 1). One major change I think which might have lead to this - I had a recent update from Microsoft on 28/Aug/2014 (Image 2). I'm not sure though that this must be the cause of the problem.
Troubleshooting tried: I tried first to repair through "programs and features" but did not work. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the FingerPrint reader software (Latest version available on Lenovo Website for my model). Still did not work. I'm pasting photographs of the error. I've tried to follow all the methods shown on various threads on this forum but nothing worked so far....Even the TouchChip (Fingerprint) patch driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)  which is compatible with Windows 8.1 doens't install. (image 3). Device manager shows error for Biometric devices. (image 4).
    Please help.
    Image - 1

For Windows 8.1 you should not be installing any fingerprint software.  You should uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  The driver you need (for TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor) will come from Windows Update.  Then you can enroll fingerprints from the PC Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen.
If there is a problem with the device in Device Manager, try removing it and check the option to delete the driver software.  Then reboot, run Windows Update, and a compatible version for your system should be installed.

  • Fingerprint reader failing with internal error - 0x800106BB

My fingerprint reader worked once I put the proper software in. But only once. The second time I tried to get in, I got the following: "An internal error occurred (bpwb: bp-wb-dpi-ed-wbeba (800106BB)" When I went onto the internet and searched on that error, it appears to be a known problem with Windows 7 (fixed in win8) with the following description: "Not enough RPC threads". Is this a hardware problem or a software problem? Lenovo is telling me to return my Thinkpad E540 to be fixed. Since I am going on a cruise in 20 days and planned to bring this laptop with me, I'm concerned.

    Hi Sharath,
I have selected all of them, clicked on publish, the I got a message saying "choose an ITS for publishing"
Using the message in performance assistant,
