T430s graphic card (GPU) crashes randomly
Dear Lenovo,
I have bought my T430s a couple of month ago.
I have a undeterministic problem with the GPU. The computer freezes randomly (mostly during video or streaming, but sometimes only while browsing WWW) once a couple of days with the following result:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtrKaLGHh1M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7yIJttOZgo
It goes on for a couple of minutes and then the computer reboots.
I went to the Lenovo service, but they had no idea what was the reason as they couldn't easily reproduce the problem. As the computer is my tool for work, I couldn't leave it there for 2 weeks. I gave up trying to fix the problem and accepted it.
Now in my company they ordered 8 T430 and 5 out of these 8 experience the same issue as mine. I believe it must be a standard problem and solution should be known. Is there a one?
Kind regards!
I have had exactly the same problem with my T430, I have had the motherboard replaced twice now and it has started to happen again! The strange thing is after mobo replacement it works perfectly for months and then out of the blue it will happen, it will then happen very rarely (under once a week) but then it will become more and more frequent.
I have checked the RAM using the Lenovo diag utility at POST and using Memtest and it shows fine. I have used the Lenovo update utility to update everything and still it happens.
Have you altered any of your hardware? I am using a Samsung 840 SSD and Corsair Vengence 2x4GB memory (details below).
RAM:
Corsair CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 NB Vengeance Performance 8GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3
The problem is the issue is so intermittant that I cannot test it thoroughly without replacing hardware and using for a few weeks or more. When the screen crashes I am not doing anything that is labouring the machine, I usually just have the internet open and notepad as I mainly use it to administer networks, not for streaming etc. and it is on a desk so there is sufficient airflow.

Flash Player causes Graphic card to crash then recover successfully on two identical systems.
Hello,
Ever since the latest update with Adobe Flash Player, I've been having problems with flash in general on my computer. My brother has the same exact computer and he also has this issue. I can uninstall Flash Player and the problem stops completely and the moment I install it again, the problem persists. I've looked just about everywhere and figured I'd post it on here for a solution.
The problem:
The graphic card crashes and then recovers successfully when using Flash Player in general (happens most of the time when listening to a playlist on youtube and when the webpage is loading/changing to the next song). It also causes blue squares to appear on my monitor in random places. Flash videos become disturted and appear as blocks of fuzzy colors representing what they should really be when in full screen watching the video.
Troubleshot to conclude it was Flash Player:
I did extensive research and troubleshooting on my end, the problem started when I updated flash player with the auto-updater. I bench-marked my computer with running multiple programs and games to the maximum effort my computer could handle without flash installed (needless to say, no problem occurred). I then installed flash according to specs and ran a youtube playlist alone on Internet Explorer, the problem did occur. I then tried it with FireFox and Google Chrome, the same problem occurred.
I had my brother reformat his computer and install everything according to spec (all of his drivers are up to date as well) and the problem persisted with his end so I haven't done that, since it'd be to no avail.
I have even uninstalled Flash Player using the uninstaller executable that's supposed to remove everything from Flash Player and tried to install the version that worked prior to the update and it's as if something from Flash isn't being removed because the problem happens with the old version too as well.
Our computer specs are as follows:
Manufacturer: CyberPower, Inc.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
Memory(RAM): 3.00GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (Actual card is ATI Radeon 4850)
If I should post something else, let me know and I will. This problem is kind of annoying to be honest so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and assistance.Hello,
Sadly this does not fix the problem on either computer. The video still comes in distorted while watching videos and the graphic card still crashes on song change while listening to a youtube playlist. The drivers are updated on both computers. As stated, this started happening when auto-updating to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player from the system tray icon. I can't even un-install flash and revert back to the version that worked before this update since it's as if something from Flash Player doesn't get uninstalled when using the uninstaller because the problem happens on all versions of Adobe Flash Player that I've tried. Thanks for your time and assistance. -
Are ps cs4 or cs5 accelerates by ati graphics card gpu?
Hi Guys,
Recently, I have purchased notebook ASUS G73JH A1, which comes with ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5870,
I have purchased adobe photoshop cs3 long time before, I heard from one of friends, new photoshop cs4 and cs5 accelerates by graphics card gpu, so I am planing to purchase cs4 or cs5, but is it really uses graphics card gpu, or its not correct?
Thanks,Hi dec9
I went to ati website, for the mobility drivers, it asked me to go through the notebook vendor (which is asus)...
so from where can I get the 10.4 driver ( I can see the driver version is 8.683.0.0 and the driver date is 12/17/2009 ) ? -
Problems with graphics card (GPU)
I'm having problems with the graphics card (GPU) in my 2010 MB Pro leading to screen distortions. It seems similar to the problems described here: http://9to5mac.com/2014/10/28/apple-class-action-lawsuit-2011-macbook-pro-gpu-gr aphics-issues
Unfortunately, my machine is not eligible under the class-action suit (and well out of warranty). Is anyone else dealing with this and how did you fix it?
Thanks!
- marcWhat was updated? Care to pastebin your pacman.log so we might actually know what went wrong? Also, in the future, naming a thread "update broke <package>" is not very helpful. Something like "OpenGL-dependant programs fail to run after updating <the package you think to be most relevant>" would be much more helpful and likely garner you many more people willing and able to help.
All the best,

Does PPro Use Graphics Card (GPU) To Render Videos?
Hi, I have an HP 9280t (i-975 cpu w/12 Gb RAM) running win7 home premium with an EVGA/nVidia GTX 285 graphics card (GPU). I just started monitoring the GPU with EVGA's Precision Tools utility. I noticed that, although PPro uses the GPU during editing (playback), GPU utilization is zero during rendering. I thought that one advantage of better video cards was to assist in rendering. Am I wrong about that? Is there something I need to turn on? All relevant observations/responses welcome. Thanks. Jim

Hello community!
This is the first major problem I've had with my Macbook since I got it over a year ago. This is a 15" Macbook Pro with Retina Display (Mid-2012 - 2.2 GHz).
Everything was fine until I upgraded to Mavericks, and ever since then, my entire system cuts out and has to reboot when trying to do graphically-intense applications. So far, I've had this problem with the following programs:
Safari/Chrome (when playing embedded videos that are not from YouTube)
Adobe Photoshop CC
iPhoto (the brand new one)
Sid Meier's Railroads!
Civilization V
Demolition Company
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3
Preview + Pixelmator (at the same time)
All of these programs are the most recent stable versions.
That this whole problem is being caused by my graphics card is merely an assumption that is based on the list of programs that make it crash. All of the rest of the applications that I use (Mail, Calendar, Tweetbot, iTunes, etc etc etc) run completely flawlessly.
Here's what usually happens - I start a game, for instance. I go through the menus and everything just fine. Once I start an acutal scenario, it loads and finally puts me into the game. It runs and I can interact with the entire UI for about 10-15 seconds, at which point, everything - the screen, the audio, the fans - instantly turn off. It's as quick as someone unplugging a desktop computer.
The computer is unresponsive to me trying to turn it back on for about 30-60 seconds (depending on the app that made it crash). Eventually, the power button "works" and everything comes back. The computer reboots normally, and presents me with an error message.
This has happened dozens of times over the last few weeks, and I can repeat the problem very easily (just open up something on the list!). Below is a crash report that I just got after the one that involved Pixelmator + Preview.
If there's anything that anyone sees that I can do to fix this, I would be extremely appreciative. Thank you so much, everyone!
- JJ

Thunderbolt Bus: MacBook Pro, Apple Inc., 23.4I went ahead and went into safe mode and uninstalled Parallels Desktop 9 as well as Parallels Access, which I figure were the programs associated with the "culprit" you listed. I uninstalled by dragging them from Applications folder to the Trashbin, which is the only way I know how to uninstall a program as well as the way that Parallels recommends themselves. I shut down the laptop and started it again normally. I didn't bother reinstalling Paralells Desktop yet because I really don't use it that often.
Anyway, I tried a game just to see if it had removed the problem, and it did it again, unfortunately.
I then tried to run the Hardware Test, but it brought up something about an internet test instead of a hardware test. For what it's worth, that ran for about 30 seconds before giving me an error code.
Did I do something wrong, or is there anything else I can try?
EDIT: I tried the Hardware test again, and I ran into the same problem. This time, at least, I got some more details. It's trying to go into "Internet Recovery Mode," and I run into error code -1006D.
EDIT 2: Also, here's the Crash report from the one just now:

Change between graphic cards - mac crashes
Hi Apple community,
since now two weeks I have a new MacBook Pro. It is my first mac and it is very amazing.
However since the first day I have a problem for which I do not find an answer yet.
As every new MacBook Pro - my MBP do have two graphic cards. In the system preferneces there is the option to switch between them (better battery life or higher performance). When I try to change between these two options I get the - you have to log out - text. Till here everything is fine.
Now when the system logs off and in again my MacOs crashes and and I do have to press the on/off switch menu for few second, reboot my system and even then the system can get bck to normal mode, I have to press the on/off switch once again and only then I can run my Mac again.
Is this normal and if not.... how can this problem be solved
Thanks for your help

T430 is now availble on the US Lenovo website
I will be buying this laptop sure but which graphics card to go with?
They have introduced:
NVIDIA N13P-NS1 Optimus Graphics with 1GB DDR3 Memory
I have abolutely no idea how good this is? Can you guyz help me.
Also if I buy this graphics card, will I still get Intel 4000 (dual graphics)???
Thank youIt appears to be a low end 600 series equivalent card and other names may be used around. I don't know why they don't bump up to the GT650 and such which has been around and used. Just confusion and it will used shared memory.

There is probably more around and review I am sure will appear if not around already. Spend some time looking. This only took me an hour after reading and number of links and various searches etc. If you spend more time I am sure more info is available.

Is there a problem with my graphics card, my screen randomly goes black?
Hi all,
I've been noticing that my laptop screen randomly blacks out though the device still appears to be on. I end up doing a full shut down by pressing the power button for 5 seconds and restart thereafter. Although this has happened at various times, it most recently has been occurring while using Google Chrome. Right before the screen blacks, I tend to see a prompt in the upper right hand corner of the screen that says something like "Intel HD Graphics now in use" or something about gfxCardStatus. Obviously for now I've been limiting the use of Google Chrome, but I'd still like to know if there is a substantial problem here. I'm using a Macbookpro 15in OSX version 10.7.4, i5 intel core processor. After restarting, this is the error message that I receive and report to apple:

Can someone please help? This is also my first time posting so forgive me if I have not provided customary information.
Thanks!Looks like a failed graphics GPU. Run Apple's Hardware Test in extended mode 2-3 times back to back. If errors appear that confirms a hardware problem. The reason for running the test 2-3 times back to back is AHT does not always find errors on the first or second pass, however when it does find them it is correct.

haaai
when i was operating the system morethan 40 minitues the screen will be black , only sound and then i need to restart again the system ...... and again its happening please help meHaaai @jithnair18 !
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your screen keeps going black after using it for about 40 minutes.
Can you tell me if you are doing anything like gaming that might cause extra heat to build up in the graphics card (GPU)?
I would also really appreciate it if you could tell me which notebook you have, and the installed operating system. If you aren't sure where to find that information see the following links:
For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?
It would also be awesome if you could test your notebook with an external monitor to see if the GPU is crashing or the display is blanking out. Of course this depends on if you have a monitor available. If you don't; no big, we'll figure it out one way or the other.
I would also suggest testing the display in safe mode. Safe mode uses a minimal amount of drivers and disable non-essential startup items to test for errors with software or driver conflicts. To launch safe mode see the following links:
Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode) - Windows 8.
Start your computer in safe mode - Windows 7.
It would also be wise to update the drivers for you graphics card. You can download them from the HP - Drivers & Downloads website once you have your product and operating system. If you wish, I can provide a direct link for you once you've given me your product info.
Let me know the results of those suggestions and I'll see what I can do to help you.
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!
Please click "Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Very Buggy Flash 10.2 - different Graphic Cards
Hi...
Flash Player 10.2 seems to be very "buggy".
My system:
Win Vista 32Bit Home Premium, all updates
Firefox 3.6.13 with the actuall Flash 10.2...
I have two GPUs (Hybrid)
- onboard Intel Media Accelerator, Intel Mobile Family 4 --> Flash 10.2 do not work!!
Some videos are showing only a black area or a not moving picture... mostly you can hear the sound.
and an extra decidedly graphic card (GPU)
-nVidia GeForce 9600M GT --> and there Flash 10.2 works!
Now if have loaded and installed the old Flash 10.1, latest version.....
... and all works fine!
So, now I will wait for an bug release.
update:
The problem is not more less with FF 3.6.15!
... and i have the same problem with IE8 on the same computer
At first with 10.2.152.26 and now branch 10.2.152.32.... it's all the sameDo you have the latest device drivers installed for your video card?
Did you try to disable Hardware Acceleration? -
Funky Colors and Patterns Across Screan (Bad Graphics Card?)
Specs:
2010 Macbook Pro 15" with bootcamp (now uninstalled after reset to factory defaults)
OS X Maverick
4gig ram
500gig hard drive
2.4ghz Intel core i5
The above image shows the problem I am having. It freezes the computer as well. It has been happening for 2 years give or take (was given the computer in 2010 by my school with apple care extending 6 months after graduation which has since expired). At first it was happening only when it got really hot (located at the very top of the keyboard where it meets the screen) while playing video games and not often so I just dealt with it for a while by downloading fan controls so I could keep the fans running at maximum. Now however, it happens whether the computer is hot or not (sometimes right when I turn it on or sometimes after 10 to 15 minutes of use) so I dont think it is a heat issue, I think heat just enables an underlying problem. I had bootcamp on there and while in windows the same thing would happen but the screen would occasionally go black and it would recover with a notification from NVidia telling me that the graphics card has crashed and recovered. What I have tried so far (mostly to make sure its not a software issue).
Removing the bottom and cleaning out dust that may clog the fans for better cooling.
Scanning for antiviruses (just to make sure).
Running any mac or windows software cleaners by using Onyx or AVG's system repairs.
Resetting the computer to factory defaults (OSX Maverick) after removing bootamp and erasing the hard drive.
None of this has worked (although keeping the computer cool used to work)
I'm on here because I am wondering what hardware might be faulty and if there is a cheaper way to fix this that does not involve spending a great deal of money having apple fix it for me. Seeing as it is coming up on its 5th year, I am not looking to put too much money into it (no more than 150$). I am just looking to keep it running as long as possible, I cannot afford a new laptop right now. Not a problem if it involves taking it apart and attempting to replace parts if they can be found at a low cost.
Thanks!SCREEN******

Mac keeps crashing whenever using Office for Mac (possible graphic card problem)
Mid 2010 15 inch MacBook Pro. Played out perfectly for the first two years. As soon as the warranty expired, things went sideways. Do not know why but whenever I try to use Office 2011 for Mac the entire mac freezes for a millisecond and then crashes. Does this repeatedly whenever I try using Office.
Problem report reads as follows:

I've done a couple of modifications on it but I dont believe they have affected it to such extent. I believe it might be a defective graphic card but at this point, believing the crash was induced by the usage of Office I have done everything possible short to dismembering the Mac and changing the Graphic Card. I have read somewhere that mid 2010s had problems with graphic cards. If anyone has found a way around the changing of the card, I would be very grateful of their opinion and suggestions.First, uninstall the software responsible for installing these extensions:
com.logmein.driver.LogMeInSoundDriver 1.0.0
com.squirrels.driver.AirParrotSpeakers 1.8
com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt 0.0.68
If removing the software and extensions doesn't solve the problem, then you are probably correct about the GPU:
The problem is likely due to the discreet GPU failing. Download gfxCardStatus 2.3 and use it to disable the GPU. This is a temporary workaround until you get your motherboard replaced. -
Photoshop CS4 and graphic cards. Can cause crashing?
Since upgrading to CS4 I seem to have increased crashing.
Here are my system specs.
Mac 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
9 GB of Ram
250 GB internal dedicated scratch disc
NVDIA GeForce 7300 GT with 256 VRAM
After having endless techs look at my machine and upgrading everything. I am beginning to suspect the graphics card.
With OpenGL can a underperforming video card cause crashing in photoshop especially with massive file sizes ( multilayered CMYK poster sized files the can exceed 7 GB)?Did you install the 11.0.1 update?
Is your OS up to date with patches?
Have you tried disabling OpenGL in preferences to avoid using the GPU/Graphics card?
