T430s triple display configuration win8 optimus

hi everyone,
now that i got my new t430s I try to configure two external displays and my t430s lcd with win8 and mini dock 3 plus as described in the drivers readme and in the marketing papers.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074304
Actually there is no chance to activate more than two displays at the same time.
Is it a Win 8 feature or is it just not possible to get this configuration running with the smal core-i5's HD4000 and the optimus, as all displays are connected to the HD4000?
Is this just marketing bullsh.. because there are no limitations marked for the different t430s configurations?
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76617
Any help is appreciated.

Hi again,
I read these solution(http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074304) over and over again and finally got the clue in comparing the signals from display ports and dvi-ports. As they are a little bit different when using displayport to dvi adapters, which are mainly passive ones, so that the displayport will behave as a dvi-port having not the possibility to enable three displays.
I bought two displayport cables, connected them to the docking and my displays and had absolutely no problem enabling all three.
cheers

  • L420 Triple Display Configurations

    Hi All,
I have L420, and I need to attach 2 external monitors for my work. I attach 1 VGA and 1 Display Port to DVI. However, only one external monitor I can use at the same time. Is the display processor cannot work with 2 external monitors? If I use Mini Dock Series 3, will it work?
Oh, when I use displayport and I tilt the display 90deg, the mouse cursor cannot work properly,  I don't get this problem if I use VGA port.
    I use WIn 8.1
    thanks

    Hi, Volt,
This subject has been explored in depth on this board. To keep it short, yes, you can indeed drive two external monitors at the resolutions you mentioned without the dock, plus the internal makes three.

  • T530 multiple display configuration

I have the T530 with the NVIDIA Optimus option that should allow a triple display configuration (two external displays and the laptop LCD).
I have been able to get a working configuration with the laptop LCD and two external displays over DisplayPort through the docking station.
I have found that upon some boot cycles, I am either stuck with just the laptop LCD as the only display or I am able to turn on only one external display. Sometimes a reboot will change it, sometimes it will not.
What's strange is that the NVIDIA control panel and the Windows display settings show all three LCDs, I am just not able to turn on one or both of the external displays (even if I turn off the laptop LCD).
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
    Thank you!

    Hi, admarsha
There are updates available for both your BIOS and Optimus that may help this issue. The BIOS update can be found here and the Optimus update can be found here. Looking over the ReadMe for the Nvidia update, part of the update does help with issues connected to multiple displays through docking stations so it may help.
    Best,
    Adam

  • T420 - Triple display not working

So, according to this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-76617.html , the T420 I have is supposed to support two external displays as well as the laptop display as follows:
    ThinkPad-only Triple Display Configuration:
    1st Display: Active ThinkPad display
2nd Display: VGA analog monitor attached to the ThinkPad VGA analog port.
3rd Display: DisplayPort monitor attached to the ThinkPad DisplayPort
However, when I connect both external displays, it will switch off one of the external monitors (the first one connected).
Using display port to HDMI cable for monitor 1, VGA for monitor 2.  Both are verified working as external monitors with the T420, just not at the same time.
I've looked through the BIOS and display properties to no avail.
Is this actually possible without a docking station?
    -B

Only a laptop with a discrete NVIDIA graphics card, will support those configurations. If you just have the onboard Intel graphics, then I bet you'll only be able to drive two without a dock. With a dock, you still may be able to drive three monitors (including the ThinkPad's LCD).
BTW, I found even with an NVIDIA discrete graphics option, that page you refer to is incorrect (else I have a problem with my docking station). It says you can drive three monitors with "Any combination of the following" when after much trial and error, I determiend one has to be a VGA analog connection.

  • Problems Setting up triple Display

    Hi Folks, after some help
Recently tried setting up a triple display set up on Mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 5770 from the single display previously used.
I have 2 new Samsung B1930 monitors connected through Mini Display Port to VGA apple connectors in the 2 Slots and my old Samsung B2430 connected up through the DVI.
What i hoped to achieve is
    Left B1930 extended desktop
Middle: B2430 Main screen with Dock etc
    Right B1930 Extended Screen
What i have is the left B1930 as the main screen (inc Dock) and the Middle B2430 and righ B1930 as the extension.  Is it only possible to extend one way? or is there a way to extend left and right.
    Cheers in advance

  • Is is possible to Triple Display from the New MacMini

Is it possible to run a triple display on a MacMini with the intel HD 4000 chipset (which according to Intel is triple monitor capable).
I would assume one display would run off the HDMI and the other two from the Thunderbolt Port.
If it is possible three displays, is it possible to daisy chain two MiniDisplayport monitors from the Thunderbolt port. I know it will run one MiniDP but am unsure if it will run 2.

You can use a splitter for one output but yo have top mirror those displays.
You need a USB video adopter like this one to add a third independent monitor

  • Triple display adapters?

I have a 2010 Mac Pro with the 5870 GPU.
    My displays are:
    - 27" Apple
    - 2x 23" DVI LG
I could use some help in figuring out which adapters will allow me to run all three.
    Thanks!

HT4279- Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac Pro (Mid 2010): Supported display configurations
The Apple 27 inch has a Mini DisplayPort that plugs right in.
The first of those DVI displays connects to the DVI port.
Short term:  Since it is only 23 wide, it is likely to be under 1920 wide, and can use a single-Link DVI cable to save money now (but the cable will not be useful for a wider display later.)
Long Term: Shop REALLY hard for a Dual-Link DVI cable that is also cheap.
The second DVI display will need an adapter or a converter.
Short Term: Mini DisplayPort to Single-Link DVI adapter is all you need for now. That adapter is MUCH cheaper because it forces the Mini DisplayPort into "Single-Link DVI compatability mode"
Long Term: If you ever want to run 3 DVI displays, you may have to spring for the Dual-Link converter. But the cost is so much higher I would wait until you were forced to do it.

    4. In case any of the previous operations work but the settings don't "stick".  There are two plists associated with the settings:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.XXXXX-XXXXXXX.plist
The first is global to all accounts while the second is in your home directory.  The X's are a sequence of hyphaninated  letters and numbers.  If you can get these removed then it will probably revert to a default resolution.

  • Resume hook for changed display configuration

    Hi arch forum,
I need some help configuring my resume process. First the scenario:
I'm working with my notebook (ThinkPad T420s) on the train
and when I get off the train I close the lid and the notebook suspends. When I get to work
I drop the notebook into the docking station, where an external monitor is connected.
If I hit the power button on the docking station the notebook resumes without opening the lid,
but it does not check for changed display configuration. I have to open the lid and type my password to
    get the new configuration started.
Question is: Is it possible to create a resume hook, so that X checks for the changed setup on resume before I opened the lid?
If someone could direct me to the right place in the wiki that would be great.
Now I should specify my configuration:
    Gnome3 and proprietary nvidia drivers
Its a new installation so I have a systemd only setup (which takes care of suspend/resume so far)
If you need to know more, just ask.
Thanks for any help in advance,
    arnold

  • T530 multiple display configuration lead to errors when closing the laptop

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo T530 2429CTT and I am having some trouble when trying to set up my multiple display configuration with a Lenovo ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3.
I have an external Samsung LCD monitor which is connected to the Mini Dock via DisplayPort.
I am running Win 7 Prof.
The problem I see is with an application which uses DirectX. The display looks fine in the following configuration:
    - Laptop open
    - External Samsung LCD Monitor on
    - Display cloned so that both devices show my desktop
The issues appear when I close the laptop. I do this because in my office I only work with the external monitor so I don't need the internal display of the laptop at that moment.
When I close the laptop the following happens:
The external display gets dark for some seconds. It comes up again, gets dark and after a while (maybe 10 sec) it stays active. Sometimes I see a notification that the color scheme has changed to Win 7 basic.
Everything seems to be fine now but when looking at the DirectX based display of my application I have some problems for example with the refresh (the display looks very weird).
BTW: The laptop has an internal and an external graphic card (Internal: Intel HD 4000, External: NVIDIA NVS 5400M).
So it seems as when the laptop gets closed, the internal graphics will be turned off. Due to this the display on the external monitor also changes the settings of the graphhic card (maybe it gets turned in an energy saver state).
I was looking at many of the NVIDIA settings without any success so hopefully somebody in this forum has an idea what is happening there.
    Thanks,
    Andreas

  • Xorg display configuration files.

I tried to change my display configuration using gnome-control-center.
setting to a too small configuration know I cannot undo it and screwed the display on my screen.
I can still do Ctrl+Alt+Fx to delete/edite file.
    I tried to follow this document https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … ng_started
    But i didn't change anything.
Does somenone know what file should I delete to return to my normal configuration?
    Best Regards

If the gnome-control-center is a frontend for xrandr, try opening a terminal in gnome and typing "xrandr --output WHATEVER --mode RESOLUTION". The name of the output can be found with an "xrandr -q". An example command would be "xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1600x1200". If this is a one time fix and gnome doesn't save it, an xorg.conf with the following section will be able to override it.
    Section "Screen"
    SubSection "Display"
    Modes "1600x1200"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection

  • Triple display on W520

My brother ordered a W520 with the 1920x1080p screen option. He has two Dell 20" (1600x1200) monitors from years ago, which have DVI & VGA connectors.
Can the W520 run in triple display mode, with built in display, one monitor hooked up with VGA cable, and the other monitor hooked up with Displayport to DVI cable?
Or does this require some kind of dock? Or at the very least, can it run on two monitors with the lid closed?
