T430S Will NOT Hibernate

I have a less than year old T430s running 64bit Win 7 Pro. I have replaced the Hard Disk with a 512 GB SSD and added a 256 PCI-e SSD as well. The computer runs very well. No CD/DVD. Computer has 16GB of memory. I am very happy with speed of operation.  However....
The machine will not hibernate!! I know this has worked in the past and do NOT understand the origin of the problem. If the Fn+F4 is used OR when Hibernate is selected from the start menu, the screen darkens and the HD light gets going, but any motion of the mouse or keys immediately returns the screen. Even if left alone, the power light and volume buttons stay lit indicating the unit is definitely not in hibernation. I have gone thru the power management setup in the Lenovo app and from the control panel to be certain hibernate is selected.
I have tried deleting the hibernate file, gone into the Device Manager and gone into Device Manager and one by one prevented the devices with a Power Management tab from waking the computer...still no luck Then I have tried t shutdown processes in Task Manager to see if there is some issue there. Of course this latter activity is hit-or-miss.
Any ideas?

Hi acatalano
Have you update your T430s BIOS and driver with System Update?
By the way, since SSD starts up fast enough, why do you need Hibernate? and the more memory you have, the larger the Hibernation file (hiberfil.sys) will be, and it will take much longer just to hibernate.
In order to disable Hibernate and get back your 10GB+ of storage space, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > right-click Command Prompt, Run as Administrator. Then type powercfg -h off.
By default, Power Manager will hibernate your ThinkPad when it reaches Critical low battery level, to prevent this from happen, change the Action from Hibernate to Sleep.

Unhhhhh. I've re-set it, I've checked troubleshooting and online manuals, I've looked online at discussions... This thing is not even a week old. I installed it just as instructed when I got it... but it will not turn off when I press play/pause, it will not automatically hibernate after a few minutes...Surely there is a guru out there with the answer.

  • T430S Will Not Start

I have a Lenovo T430S Thinkpad laptop. It shut off earlier today while plugged in, and will not start up again. When the AC charger is unplugged and plugged back in, the "battery charging" light and the light on the power button will flash twice and then go dark. All other lights are dark.  A thread elsewhere suggested to remove the battery and power adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This did not work. I have tried to start it with only the battery, with only the charger, and with both. None of these scenarios work. Any help is appreciated.

Please take the following advice on your own risk, you might break your warranty following up on this advice.Edit: You might also destroy your PC for good if not careful, if in doubt, contact a professional. Hi, you could try to detach the backup battery. 1090 Backup battery. See the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your PC:

  • T430 will not connect to DVI display using ultradock

Hello,I currently have a Thinkpad T430 connected to an ultradock, and am trying to set up two external displays. I can get one working if I connect it via VGA, but I can not get either of them to work using the DVI ports, either as a second or third display. I am running Windows 7. • My mini will not hibernate

Hi, I have just bought a mini ipod and its all going well except that when i want it to hibernate it wont. i press and hold the pause key, the screen goes blank, then it displays the 'Charged' image and text even though its not plugged into anything.
I have win xp sp2, mini 4gig, new itunes.
have tried to restore several times now - even using a different PC and software (my brother has a mini which is how i know mine is not quite right) But the problem still persists. Any ideas on how i can fix this or is it a problem with the hardware?
    Thanks,
    John.

Thanks for the reply, Yep tried that a few times now - was the only way to get it recognised at first. Have just downloaded ipodsetup from apple and restored ipod yet again, now when i plug it in it is recognised every time without reset!
Unfortunatley the 'Charging' is still displayed instead of it hibernating ((

  • My NB100 will not hibernate any longer

    Hi!
My new brand NB100 was working OK for a few days, but suddenly it refuses to hibernate. An error message is displayed saying (more or less) "The 101/102 keys keyboard controller or the natural MS HID controller are not allowing the unit to hibernate".
I have tried deleting both controllers but they are reloaded automatically after restart.
I use an external USB Logitech deluxe 250 keyboard and mouse.I have not installed any driver for them (it was not necessary)
The problem remains even if I do not connect both devices.
The OS is windows XP home (the original that came with the netbook)
    Any help, please?
    Thank you.

    Great, AKUMA!
Your suggestion did the trick. Thank you very much indeed.
I have spent too many hours visiting forums and testing any idea I could find there (it seems to be quite a common problem). Nothing worked. I also consulted MS knowledge base but did not find the article you indicate. I suspected SP3 but did not know how to uninstall it (in case it was possible). Fortunately I did not.
In the meantime, as I was supposing I had to reinstall WinXP sooner or later (and format the HD), I modified the partitions, so that my data could stay safe in a different partition. It was very simple and free. So I want to share how I did it:
    1. I downloaded the free Easus partition manager personal 1.6.4 from cnet downloads It is also here: http://www.partition-tool.com/.
I defragmented the HD (passed the window defragmenter tool four times until it could not improve the HD fragmentation any more),
    3. Made a back up of all personal data files on a Sandisk pendrive 8GB (now they sell for about 10 Euro)
    4. Using the Easus P.M, I reduced the initial 160 GB "C" partition to 60 GB
    5. With Easus P.M I made a new logical partition on the unallocated space left (now it is unit "D")
    6. I moved the data files to this new partition.
I hope this could be useful for beginners here. I did not know how to do this when I first received the netbook with just one partition so I stared loading it with programs and data. I recommend not to repeat my mistake and make a different partiton for data (and eventually, programs) before the HD is too loaded or you are forced to format "C" and lose everything.....
Thank you all for all the help received.

  • HP 15t j000 will not wake from sleep/hibernate Windows 8,8.1,10

HP 15t j000 will not wake from sleep/hibernate Windows 8,8.1,10. I have to restart. I've searched high and low for answer to this. I've seen videos, played with power settings.  I hoped each Windows system upgrade would fix the problem. No go. Anyone with any ideas?

Hi , Thank you for your query.  I understand that after upgrading to Windows 10, it will not wake from sleep mode unless you restart. The first step I would try is to disable "Hybrid Boot' or "Hybrid Shutdown.  This can be done by turning off "Fast Startup" Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 Next try running the "Update Troubleshooter"  Windows Update troubleshooter. Once launched, it should show a screen like this. Use the second option "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", it should lead to a force update of 'Windows Updates' that may not be automatically being applied, that could fix some of these issues.
Here is a link to HP PCs - Sleep and Hibernate Issues (Windows 10, 8) that may also help.  To say thanks for replying please click the thumbs up button below. If this yielded a solution please choose solution provided to help other people find this information.  Best of Luck!

  • T 61 will Not shut down

A two week old Type 6459 T61 with Vista Business will not shut down. It will sleep and hibernate but will not shutdown or restart (and I am telling it specifically to shutdown/restart). After a bit all disk activity stops and it just sits there telling me it is "shutting down" when it is not doing anything. For as long as I let it sit that is what it is telling me. I must use a hard shutdown, such as the power button (so programmed) or unplugging and yanking the battery if i actually want it to shut.
Any clues?  If I shutdown before I log in then shutdown will work. But if i log out and then shut down this will not work.  If i restart uing safe mode (after forcing the shut down) then the machine will shut down. Have tried all sorts of variations of shutdown.exe to no avail. Have run with and witout Aero. I am running only Lenovo/MS supplied or branded software in services and processess and disabled all else. I have disabled all startup apps via msconfig except antivirus (presently the Norton that came with the machine) and winamp agent (to maintain file associations) and Lenovo's on screen display. No help.
There are about 50 (I am not exagerating) services and processes runnning when I try to shut down that are not running in safe mode when the machine shuts down properly. I am hoping someone has a suggestion other than to disable each of the service/processes in turn and see if machine will shutdown or restart.
And I do not want to reinstall Vista. Too many commercial apps (MS office, Adobe 9 Professional etc.) that I would have to reinstall.
Have tried with and without Sidebar; no change. Have tried with and without NVidia helper apps; no change. Have not yet used Roxio (supplied by Lenovo) .
So, I hope someone "out there" can think of which processes are the "bad" ones. There seem to be many threads about Lenovo's shutting down when they should not; I have not seen other posts where people are having trouble shutting down when they want to shut down. I would like to think the problem is not with Windows Vista or with the Lenovo supplied software (then it should happen with everyone, right?) but what I would like to think may not count . . .
    TIA
    Bill

    Hello,
Bill please activate your windows services, except may be indexing, they eat not much memory and cpu power.
Vista will need one or two weeks, after you have your programs installed to get fully performable.
I would recommend to uninstall Norton and may me Winamp, if necessary.
Antivir or AVG are much smaller and faster, but also safe.
    Regards
    Andreas

  • Mac Pro will not sleep

As requested, this is a new post from the "my mac will not wake up" thread.
I am having trouble putting my Mac to sleep. When I try to enter sleep mode, the fans make noise like it wants to restart, then the monitors go out and immediately back on. It wont stay in sleep mode.
Ned Snowing seemed to have a pretty good idea of what the problem might be. Ned, can you please follow up from the other post? I think we might be on to something.
Also, I have a seagate 300gb HD installed in bay two, if that factor is relevant.

  • HP LaserJet P3005x will not come out of sleep mode

Printer will not come out of sleep mode (after being in sleep mode for an extended period of time (over 24 hrs)).  When this happens, I can not ping the printer and pressing any of the buttons on the printer will not bring it out of sleep mode.  I'm testing now to see if I can recreate this with the printer attached to my PC via USB.

    Hi arosecarter,
I understand your monitor is not coming out of sleep mode. Take a look at the following support document, Resolving Problems with Sleep and Hibernate Modes (Windows 7). Step 3 might be of particular interest to you, as you mentioned your keyboard and mouse are not really working for you either. Perhaps it is another connected device that is causing the issue? Anyway, hopefully this document will be of help to you. Best of luck. Have a wonderful day.

  • MacbookPro will not wake up from sleep after memory upgrade

I am restarting this topic as I have read thread after thread (many years old) and they all just die off with out any definite solution.
I have a 13" Mid 2010 Mac book Pro which originally came with 250gb HDD and 4gb memory
I have recently upgraded to a 256 SSD and a 1TB HDD optidrive replacement along with a 8GB memory upgrade and I am now running Lion 10.7.4
If I close the lid and open within approximately 1 minute it will wake up quickly as normal, if I leave it asleep for a minute or 2 it will not wake up with out holding the power button for several seconds and then I still need to wait a several seconds for it to respond and actually wake up. Sometimes I will need to completely shut down and restart. If I wanted a computer that takes forever to wake up I would have a PC!
The last thing I upgraded was the memory so I am sure it is the cause of the sleep problem and not the SSD conversion which was working fine with the original 4GB mem before upgrade.
I have read about resting the PRAM, resetting PMC as well as executing a line in the terminal, but all of these seem to have variable success. I have tried every thing but using the terminal to adjust the hibernate mode setting as I am not proficient with terminal and don't actually understand what changing this setting does (sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 7).
Has anyone resolved this sleep problem and what did you do? I would greatly appreciate some knowledgeable insight on the hibernation settings, and what running the line in the terminal is actually doing... even better what is the default so I can change it back if it doesn't resolve the problem.
A simple memory upgrade causing such a issues is very irritating.... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

But still, the sleep issue persists, so it is a more subtle timing issue. I upgraded my MBP with a Corsair 8GB kit ( http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-ddr3-sodimm-memory-kit-cmsa8gx3 m2a1333c9.html ) and it indicated it had 9-9-9-24 CAS timing. It has worked flawlessly till now. Note that my Mac is a Late 2011, whose memory runs at 1333 MHz.
As far as I can tell, the 13" Mid 2010 models used 1067 MHz memory with 7-7-7-20 CAS timing: http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-sodimm-memory -kit-cmsa8gx3m2a106c7.html

Since doing the BIOS update are the settings still as you noted above?  You also didn't mention which SSD is now installed in the system.
Just as an aside, installing Windows 8.1 in legacy mode isn't exactly optimal.  Were there any particular reasons for this? Just being curious.

i'm not sure how long this has been going on, but i've noticed that when i save a file onto an external drive, the size listed will not update automatically and says "zero k". if i change the window view to thumbnails, or to columns, then back to file list, the size is then listed correctly.
does anyone have a fix for this so it will update automatically?

    Dear Bob,
I am having the same problem but your solution does not swork for me. I have 6 VPCs on my "host" PC and 5 of them are working normally but one has gone into shut down mode but will not shut down. Due to memory restirctions, I can only run 2 VPCs at a time
so this one is cutting that to one. I found I can hibernate it by using CTRL-ALT-DEL on the host and doing "End task" on the dodgy VPC, but it still says "Running" in the Virtual Machines folder and it will not let me delete the .vsv file for the dodgy VPC.
    If I then rty to open it again, the window opens but with "Shutting down" showing and none of the VM menus work: shut down and restart both say "Cannot shut down this virtual machine"; tools / integration features runs but says it cannot start integration;
Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing at all. Ideally, I would like to restart the VM to get a few settings from it and then shut it down and delete it (it is a failed development) but right now I would settle for anything that gets rid of it altogether! Any suggestions?
Why doesn't MS provide a way of forcefully shutting down a VM?
