T43p -- bluetooth keyboard loses connection upon hibernation, reboot, or shutdown (not suspend)

I have a T43p running WinXP that is primarily docked.  I just purchased a Dell Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (without a Dell bluetooth adapter).  The initial pairing went fine with the TP's built-in bluetooth.  However, if I restart the computer, the keyboard needs to be re-paired before it'll start working.  For whatever reason the mouse does not have this problem.  Moreover, the connection holds during suspend mode.  Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dan

It works fine with lxdm, so I guess this is a gdm specific problem. I'd prefer to use gdm though, if only because it supports suspend on lid close.

  • Bluetooth keyboard & mouse connection less user friendly

In Leopard I was able to power up my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and they would connect automatically. With Snow Leopard I have to power up, get out of my couch (I mostly use my TV as a monitor), go across the room, use the mousepad to click bluetooth icon, click mouse on pulldown menu, click connect and then the same for the keyboard.
Seems like a small problem, but it actually results in having to do this process an annoying amount of times each day (I turn them off after each use to keep the amount of electromagnetic radiation in the room I spend the most part of every day to a minimum).
Anyone know if I can get back the functionality of Leopard without uninstalling Snow Leopard? Anyone know why the automaticity of it has been removed/lost?
    (PS: pairing went flawlessly)

I am experiencing exactly the same problem the the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I use with the Mac mini that is part of my entertainment system. It seems kind of silly to have to use a USB mouse to start up the Bluetooth mouse every time I want to use it. Also, I have found that it is very difficult to get the Bluetooth keyboard to connect, even though the mini shows it to exist and be paired and even though it has fresh batteries. Sometimes the only way that I can get the keyboard to connect is to delete it from the list of recognized devices and then pair it all over again. That goes smoothly, but obviously it is not the ideal way to do things!
Before I installed Snow Leopard, these devices worked flawlessly!

  • TS3048 My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I've put new batteries in the mouse and the green light is blinking but it just won't connect!!! I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc!!! Pls help

My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I have tried many times, put new batteries in etc. The Bluetooth appears to be on (as the wireless keyboard is working). I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc. Is the mouse dead perhaps? The green light is flickering so it should be ok???
    Thank you for your help
    Sully (frustrated Irishman)

From what you say I would suggest the batteries are not connecting properly.
First, thoroughly clean all contacts, both inside the mouse and the contact points of the batteries.  Use an alcohol based cleaner (whisky will do, hic!)  dampen (not wet) cotton buds for cleaning.
Then check to see if they fit firmly.   If you can shake your mouse and hear things are loose, that will be the batteries.   Check the make.   Apple and Duracell, in that order, are the best batteries.   Where slight undersizing has been reported they are with other than the foregoing.
You can resolve the size problem with appropriate packing but that will always be a makeshift solution.  After, reassemble, turn on the mouse and with luck, away you go.
Hopefully this will solve your problem but in any case let us know how you get on.

  • Bluetooth constantly loses connectivity

My mac mini is constantly losing bluetooth connectivity.   I have an apple wireless keyboard and trackpad and non-apple bluetooth speakers.  They will all lose connectivity at random times but the most annoying is the speakers.  It can take 5-10 times removing them and re-connecting before they work properly the keyboard and trackpad will usually, though not always, connect by using the on/off button.   But this is most annoying.  I have reset my airport extreme as per suggested but this did not help.  I have removed my wireless telephone from my desk thinking it might be interfering, but nope didn't make a difference.  I thought Apple was less bothersome than Windows but this doesn't seem to be the case for me! Any help would be appreciated!  Lori

  • BT Keyboard Loses Connection When Waking from Sleep Mode

I'm running Windows 7 on a late 2009 27" iMac and my Bluetooth keyboard keeps loses connection when I wake my computer from sleep mode. Usually the only way I can get it back is my resetting. Anyone know of a way to fix this? Any help would be great appreciated.

If the MBP doesn't wake when you open the lid but does when you press any key afterward, do this:
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
Copy and paste the following text in the Terminal window:
    *sudo pmset lidwake 1*
You'll be asked for your admin password. Type that in (Note: the password will not be displayed as you do so). Press Return, and quit the Terminal. Close the MBP, wait for it to sleep, and open it again. Does it wake now?
If you want to change it back so the system doesn't wake when you open the lid, repeat the procedure, but this time type or paste:
    *sudo pmset lidwake 0*

  • I have an ipad and a bluetooth keyboard which was initially set up with a family member's account. Their account has been erased I am now using the ipad but cannot get the bluetooth keyboard to connect. no device is recognized. any suggestions????

I have an Apple iPad Mini With Wi-Fi 16GB and a Rock Bluetooth keyboard that was previously used by my daughter. Her information was erased from the ipad and I have set it up as a new user under my account. All went well until I tried to set up the keyboard. When I go to Settings and turn on Bluetooth the ipad does not detect any device. I know they were paired and working when she was using them. Could it be because the ipad/keyboard were operating with her account and know won't connect to mine? We do not live in the same city so how would I clear the keyboard so that I could connect it to a 'new' ipad?

    Hi sugaliko,
You may need to set up your BlueTooth connection to the keyboard again. Use the steps in this article for guidance -

  • Apple Wireless Mouse and Keyboard lose connection running games in Vista

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate for playing games on my iMac. During games the *wireless Apple keyboard and wireless Might Mouse seem to loose connection at random intervals.* Looks like the bluetooth connection is lost (?, this is a guess). After 30 to 60 seconds the keyboard and mouse work again. This does not happen when using an USB mouse or keyboard.
    Any suggestions?
All drivers are updated with driver suggestions form other posts.
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on a 20inch 2,4GH iMac. Using Leopard Boot Camp. Wireless Apple Keyboard and wireless Might Mouse. All 2008 models.

    Found a post which said;
always use a passkey for bluetooth devices in Vista using Boot Camp. Removed keyboard and mouse, reinstalled with passkey. Maybe this is helpfull.

  • Iphone bluetooth headset stops bluetooth keyboard from connecting

has anyone else had a problem using an iphone bluetooth headset in close proximity to an bluetooth keyboard? If i wake up or boot up my macbook pro when my headset is switched on and close by, the keyboard will not connect to the mac! any ideas anyone please?

    Hi.
I have found that having my WiFi on at the same time I try to pair with my Plantronics 925 prevents me from hooking up. If you have WiFi you may want to turn it off why you pair. Once paired you can then turn your WiFi back on with no problems.
    Bob.

  • HT3887 My Bluetooth keyboard lost connectivity

I lost connectivity to my keyboard after restarting my Mac.  I cannot type in my password. Any suggestions?

You can substitute almost any wired USB keyboard (does not need to be an Apple board). So if you have one laying around, or if you can borrow one, you can use it to enable your Bluetooth keyboard again.

  • IChat loses connection upon startup.

iChat loses connection every time I start it up. It'll connect after a few seconds, but it always throws me off. It also crashes the wireless router itself, and whatever is using the internet is booted off. I'm thinking it could be strictly wireless router related, but I'm wondering if it could possibly be the iChat application. I know not all wi-fi routers are compatible with MacBooks completely (or so I've read), but is it normal for only ONE application to mess up? I can connect with Skype, MSN, or any other programs that require the internet on first try.. just not iChat.

    Hi,
I know of some routers or DLS Modem (they also tend to route) that I would not want if I wanted to continue to iChat.
It is not so much that they are incompatible with the Mac but incompatible with th way iChat works..
This means you can access the set up pages with a Mac but the bits you cannot not change from those pages are sometimes "features" that do not help iChat. (mostly to do with how they handle SIP data)
Even if you had such a device iChat is unlikely to make it Crash/Lose Internet/Reboot in the way you describe.
So the device you have is capable of Wifi but you are Ethernet to it ?
Are you also doing a Wifi Connection to it ?
If you are this can cause iChat problems in Video/Audio chats.
Again it is not likely to to cause the issue you describe.
I have a Sagem Fast2405 Modem that is also a Wifi able router.
I have reduced the DHCP range to just 3 IPs for WiFi able phones.
I have two Macs one of which is WiFi but can be Ethernetted, 2 PC towers that are hard wired (Ethernet), a PC Laptop, 1 X-Box 360's that are all Set with Static IPs (there was another 360 at one stage and another Tower and Window Laptop but my daughter moved out).
I mention this to highlight the need to check the IPs of each computer and possibly the methods it has of connecting.
A Ethernet Card in your computer and the Wifi card have what are called Media Access Card (MAC) addresses (numbers).
for each MAC address the modem or router will assign a Different IP. So a computer set to "Using DHCP" in System Preferences > Network will get two IPs if connected by Wifi and Ethernet.
However it if you assign the IPS Manually (Apple's Name for Static routing that needs DHCP turned Off in the router) then it is possible to allocate the Same IP to either different connection methods or to different computers/Game Stations.
This last may cause the symptoms you describe in some routers.
It will tend to show up in those Apps that are very specific about the "path" to the internet such as iChat (Skype is less fussy as it has "Fall back" ports that rely on Web Browsing and Mail ports).
I doubt it is a faulty unit but it still remains a possibility.
    I hope this helps.

  • Apple bluetooth keyboard loose connection

when ever my imac goes to sleep it looses the bluetooth connection with my wireless keyboard (old white style).
As i have password protect set up on the sleep mode this loss of connection is rendering the imac unusable as i can't log into the imac.
The only way i can get the connection back is by forcing a restart on the imac.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or could offer any advice how to remedy this problem?
    Regards
    Owb

I've just started to experience this strange problem myself.
My mouse will wake up my 24" iMac Aluminium just fine, but if
it has been running in screen saver for a long time, like overnight,
then the keyboard will fail to register with the computer. I'm stuck
with just the mouse so I have to turn the machine off (bad stuff).
I'm running 10.5.1 with the latest software updates. I have the new
wireless bluetooth keyboard (small) and bluetooth mighty mouse.
I really hope there is an answer to this problem!
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Wireless keyboard loses connection

Older KB (maybe 8-9 years) has worked fine until just recently.
Fresh batteries, not other B/T devices & keyboard set as favourite.
Bizarre bit .... if I stand KB on it's short end, iMac will detect & pair fine, as soon as KB is laid flat it loses connection again.
    Thoughts???

    Hello:
Sad to say, but from your post I would suspect the KB has reached the end of its service life.  To my knowledge, there is no software setting that would cause such behavior.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard won't reconnect after reboot

I have a new Macbook Pro (early 2008 model) that keeps losing my bluetooth keyboard everytime I restart the Mac. I have to either Browse devices and turn the keyboard on and off (I put new batteries in the keyboard recently, so I don't think that is the problem) or else I have to set the keyboard up again from scratch as a new Bluetooth device. Once I get it working again it works fine until I restart.
    This is getting tedious.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Hiya I would advise to try and reset SMC on your MPB and see if it helps.

  • Keyboard loses connection

New 27" imac, new keyboard. I'm losing connection with keyboard about every 3 minutes. I have to turn it on and off to get it working again. Then it will start repeating the last letter I type. Any suggestions?

    Hello Nancy:
    Is the KB Bluetooth?
If that is the case, trash the preference file and restart (com.apple.bluetooth.plist).
Also, make the KB a favorite (system preferences>bluetooth. Highlight the KB and click on the little gear>show more. The click on the gear again and make the device a favorite).

  • Bluetooth device loses connection

I have a bluetooth trackpad that started to lose it's connection and now loses the connection all the time? What causes this and what can be done?

Rather than worry about what a "lot" of other people have done, I suggest you reset the PRAM. It takes (maybe) 45 seconds and does not hurt anything (and might help). If it does not help, you are certainly no worse off.....
As you note from my points, I have been doing this a long time and resetting certain things frequently fixes odd BT problems
