T440s - LG or AUO Display

Dear Users,
Since a few moments I am a (happy) owner of Lenovo’s new and business class model T440s.
As I could find out, Lenovo is building in two different displays. On the one hand there are several model with a
LG-Display
Model: LP140WF1 (sp)(k1)
P/N: 0C00349
FRU: 04X0626
And the other from AUO
Model: AUO B140HAN01.2
FRU: 04X0436
(You can look up your displaymodel via BIOS, Everest or any related program)
As far as I could find out in the world wide web there are several users reporting with a LG Display in their T440s that it is in quality inferior to the AUO Display. It seems that Lenovo is ready to replace the LG with an AUO display, sending out a tech.
My question is what your experiences are and what can we, the owner of a  LG-Display, do?
Is there a real quality gap between these two types of Display?
My T440s, as i mentioned, has a LG Display. I can live with this one, if there are no great difference in the quality to the AUO Display.
I am excited about your opinions.
Thanks
Fire

Sorry Dreamwonder.
I don't think that you are right.
Have a look at thishttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5UAO6vy5iU&hd=1 (LG)
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eXZCo9OJCM&hd=1 (AUO)
It show a much better behavior of the AUO-Display. My LG Display is not as good.
Kind regards

Let’s have a look at Xperia Z1 Compact display panels.

How to Identify which panel your Xperia Z1 Compact using ?
You may need root to find that out but if your Xperia Z1 Compact is not rooted then use a file manager like “Solid Explorer”. Open it and then navigate to #_ System Root > sys > devices > mdss_dsi_panel > panel_id and Check what is mentioned there.
Sony has used different panels for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 F and now for Xperia Z1 Compact, well it seems display lottery will affect future flagship devices also.

What laws exactly do you think are being broken?
Every phone manufacturer does this, even Apple. They use different factories and companies across a production run (e.g. JDI, Sharp and LG for iPhone 5) and the panels will have slightly different characteristics despite being of the same type. Apple chooses to callibrate each panel in the factory, however, which not many others do. Customers should demand this, though, and just return their phones if they're not happy with their panels.

  • T440s Turn off auto display brightness

I'm trying to turn off the auto brightness on my T440 but nothing I found so far is working.
I edited all power plans and it turned off the Auto display brightness in windows 8.1, and i also disabled the "Display Power Saving Technology" in the graphics control panel under Power.
It's dimming even with cable plugged in.  If the screen consists of mostly black images, it dims.. if there is white, it brightens.
Any help how I could fix this is appreciated!  I have latest everything, all drivers, etc.  I have latest System Update 5 update manager which downloaded and installed everything possible.

I seem to have fixed it.. but not sure what it was, I did a few things. I did another update which downloaded a Dependency manager which was critical.. and I also did a safe mode start which failed to start and nearly bricked the machine.. only a CD was able to revive the boot process.. it would boot to a blank screen with no start options even available.

  • T440s: No on screen display of caps lock, volume, screen brightness, etc.

    Hello all-
I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help.
EDIT: Just fixed my own problem. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.
    Solved!

    Hi Brightnsalty,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query we understood that you were facing issue with On Screen Display earlier on ThinkPad T440s.
And we glad to hear that the issue has been resolved after installing Hot key feature application.
I also suggest you to update Lenovo power management application, if the OS is Windows 7, please update Lenovo Power Manager application.
    Cheers!

  • T440s vs. T540P Which display is better??

    Hello again folks,
Can you tell me, in your opinion, which display is better in terms of sharpness, viewing angles, contrast, saturation etc. between the top option display in the T440s vs. the best display available in the T540P?
I want to get the ThinkPad that has the absolute best display for photo editing.
Thanks so much for your help.
    best to you all,
    rick

I've seen both screens. Please be aware that the T440s has two FHD screens, the LG and AUO. I will assume you get the AUO. (better than LG)
Being a AHVA, the AUO has better viewing angles than the 3k IPS of the T540p. A slight shift in contrast is typical for IPS screens. However, you will still be able to see the image from almost all angles on both displays.
As for contrast, the T440s fares better as well at 800:1 vs. 500:1.
Color-wise they both cover sRGB (90-100%) but then again, the T440s has a slightly higher coverage of AdobeRGB, though I can't recall any numbers right now.
Brightness is about the same, 300 nits on both. In terms of sharpness, the T540p wins hands down. The T440s can't keep up with the high 2880x1620 resolution.
Both are good for photo editing. The T440s would be slightly better IMHO, but you will need a colorimeter on both anyway, because the calibration is a bit off. I think in the end, it doesn't really matter which one you take, like I said, both are very good and suitable for photo editing.

  • T440s - display dead after two months.

Very discouraging.  I switched from System76's offerings to Thinkpads, and their higher prices, specifically because of component and build quality.  I handled this machine with delicate reverence ever since receiving it.
I did not purchase extended coverage/warranty for this laptop.  Must I send it in to IBM or can I take it to a local warranty service provider?  Will I have to pay for parts, or labor, for this?

Thanks, I tried a local service provider but he did not feel up to the task of diagnosing the issue since I have Linux installed.  I will send it in for service.
I am highly apprehensive that my display - which I have been happy with, and believe to be an AUO non-touch IPS display - will be replaced with an LG, widely reputed to be of inferior quality.  Is there any way I can be assured that I will receive the same kind of AUO display if/when it's replaced?

  • Contrast problems with T440s

I have two T440s's, both thankfully with the AUO displays. One I've had for nearly a year, the other is new. The contrast is much worse on the new machine. Blacks are lighter, and whites are darker. I've gone through windows 8 calibration but there doesn't seem to be any way to change the contrast. Is there any solution for this or does the new machine have a defective display?
Not sure if this matters but I should mention that both the old and new T440s came originally with LG displays but I was able to get them replaced with AUO.

I have this exact issue with the ipad mini with retina display... Anytime the movie image is below a certain threshold of darkness, the contrast of the entire display is altered.. I too have been replicating it by tapping the on screen controls on and off. You can see this if you the multitask switch to a different app, the colours are washed out in that app for a few seconds as well. This appears confined to the movies app because opening a solid black image in full screen then switching apps does not cause the same effect.
I rang up apple support the other day and as per usual it was the first time they'd ever heard of it... Beginning to feel like I'm the luckiest man alive as it's always me that gets these issues. This after already having exchanged my first retina mini due to a dead pixel... And currently having saturation issues in iTunes on my MacBook Air watching videos full screen.. Again an issue reversed by the on screen controls...

  • Protective film layer on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch models

QuestionI just unpacked my new ThinkPad X1 Carbon touch and noticed that it appears as though the screen has a protective plastic film affixed to it.  It is most noticeable around the mic and cam, where holes appear to exist.
I can't find any documentation saying that this should be removed, and it's not easy to pry the sheet off at the corners (in fact, I've had zero luck, but haven't tried much because I don't want to damage anything). Do I keep trying to pry the sheet off or assume it's part of the design?
    Answer
There is a protective film layer that covers the display and should not be removed.
This extends over the viewing area and stops about 1/32" from the edge.   There are circular reliefs around the camara and two microphone ports at the top of the screen where this layer can also more easily be seen.

This film is unbelievably frustrating. I am switching jobs and chose to stay with the T440s under my new employment, although I had to get a new laptop. This time I chose to go with the touchscreen version, only to now see a film that causes graininess across my entire screen. I am coming from a T440s non-touchscreen with the AUO display (got lucky with that one) and that picture quality is exactly what I was wanting. I am highly disappointed in this unremovable film and will certainly be calling in regarding this. Is there any way to completely and safely remove it? I get the sense it is no more important to the screen than say a Zagg screen protector would be, IE touchscreen wll work perfectly fine without it, etc. Very frustrating as screen protectors like this ALWAYS cause some kind of disruption in the picture quality and I never saw mention of this film in any of the reviews I read about the touchscreen of this laptop.

  • T440s Extended Display Toggle

My work recently "upgraded" me from an x220 to a t440s.  Based on the trackpad alone, I question whether this is really an upgrade, but there are plenty of other threads for that discussion it appears.
My question, which I cannot seem to find an answer to, is this: How do I get two different programs to show on my notebook screen and my attached external display?  On my old x220, I'd use fn-F7 to "extend display", which appears to be the same as on the new unit; but once I've done that, I can't figure out how to assign different programs to the two screens.  On the x220, it was just fn-space ... is there an equivalent on the t440s?
Thanks in advance for any help, sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I honestly searched for a while.

    Hi Gwfr1g4t,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Dual Display on ThinkPad T440s.
In ThinkPad T440s you have to use the key Fn+F7 to switch the display, or you can also use Windows key+P to toggle the display and check.
    Hope this helps.

  • T440s display question / Intel HD Graphics family

I bought T440s (windows 7 pro) with FHD WWAN screen and I am noticing that my older T430s (windows 8 pro) has a clearer and brighter display. Both have the same Intel controler (Intel Graphics 4400). Screen colors on T440s are warmer (yellowish) than on T430s which has whiter and more appealing/cleaner display/colors.
T430s explicitely shows Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 in the device manager while the new T440s shows Intel(R) HD Graphics family only. There is no reference to to 4400 although my order information shows Intel 4400.
Could someone please clarify how this display difference is possible. Should I check with tech support if I received a less quality hardware on my T440s.
    Many Thanks!

Go into BIOS by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad POST screen > Config > Display. You should see a switchable graphics option here. Make sure it is set to Optimus.

  • T440s triple display (?)

    Hello,
My firm will soon be placing orders for the T440s.  I'm not sure what model we're settling on but it won't have a touch screen.  There was great difficulty attempting to use 3 displays with the T430s and I'm wondering what improvements have been made on the T440s.
During my own testing of the T430s and from reading other users' posts either active video adapters or a specialized docking station had to be used to enable 3 displays.

FWIW, I'm running a T440s with the Ultra Dock and have 2 Dell U2711 monitors connected via DisplayPort (from the dock, of course) and the built-in monitor. It worked great when I first hooked it up.
After it went to sleep, one of the monitors would not display content from a DP connection (DVI and VGA worked). After connecting it to another computer via DP and then back to the T440s plus Ultra Dock everything is happy again. Very weird!

  • T440s: Display low contrast

    HI there,
I have a T440s (Product Number 20AQCTO1WW) and it seems to me the display has very low contrast.
Generally what should be black (such as text in Word) is quite on the grey side.
Also, I do a lot of coding where syntax is colour-coded and I find it really hard to tell the individual colours apart.
I use an old HP L1950g LCD to extend my screen and when I shift my coding window over to this screen I can clearly tell the colours apart. but not on the Lenonvo screen.
I have already tried to play around with the Nvidia settings, espeically in contrast and alpha. But changing the contrast from the default only makes things worse.
My BIOS tells me I have a CMN N140FGE-EA2 screen.
Is there a way to increase contrast on the T440s screen?
    many thanks
     Andreas

    thanks for your replies.
When the colour comes out odd I usually lock the computer and sign back in, that helps, but might only be because I set the display to have the light dimmed when the compute is locked.
I guess it's a simple solution, but to a problem that shouldn't be there, and that's what bothers me about it.
    @ColonelONeill,
I'm not quite sure how I could judge if the black is normal, so me it looks a bit un-black, like not really a saturated black when windows is starting, but maybe that's just what it is.
Interestingly I just looked at a picture on both screens (the lenovo + external) and on the external the picture is exposed properly, with light and shadow parts. On the lenovo a darker part of the picture, which can be seen normally on the external screen is completely blacked out, even if I roll up the display brightness as much as I can

  • T440 will not operate 3 external displays

I'm using a T440 model 20B7000XUK and I'm connected to a Thinkpad Pro Dock I have 3 external displays connected as follows:
Lenovo Display LEN L193pC connected by DVI
Lenovo Display LEN L192p connected by VGA
Lenovo Display LEN LT2252pwA connected by DP
the DVI display will not work when the DP display is connected. is there any way to get all three displays working?

I have tried to connect it to my TV with my mini display port to DVI and a DVI to S-video and nothing...
I don't know what your DVI to S-Video adapter looks like, but unless it's a boxy converter device, it won't work. You need a converter box to create an analog S-Video signal from a Mini-Displayport's digital-only output. The converter boxes I'm familiar with require VGA input rather than DVI input, but there may be others I don't know about. If you are using a simple DVI -> S-Video adapter such as the one offered on the Apple Store, it won't work with your MBP to deliver S-Video to a TV set.
...and I have tried to connect to a projector at my work with the mini dislay to DVI cable to VGA and nothing.
A MDP > VGA adapter and a standard VGA cable are what you need for that. Converting first to DVI and then from DVI to VGA makes the setup unnecessarily complicated and may be the reason why it doesn't work for you.

  • T440s Display off when undocking

    Hi All,
I have a T440s in an Ultradock with the monitor closed and three external monitors connected (1 HDMI, 1 DVI, 1 VGA).
Everytime that i undock the laptop and open the display, the display stays black.  This doesn't seem to happen if i put the laptop to Sleep, undock the laptop, and then turn the machine back on.  The only solution after undocked is to do a hard shut-off (losing any open data) and then turn the laptop back on.
I've used the Lenovo Updates and Drivers application as well as the support website to validate that the Intel HD Graphics drivers are on the latest version.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Fightnaggie08,
    Thank you for the reply!
Uninstall all the power management & power manger application from your system and check it once. If you find if the issue has been resolved then download latest version from the link and install it.
Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.
