T440s reenable internal battery without AC power or power lead

On a train and needed to change SIM card so i disabled internal battery as is recommended
I forgot you need to plug in ac power to reenable
And i dont have it with me
Is there any other way?
http://thinkpadmint.blogspot.co.uk/

No idea about the nuances of Power Bridge, but what about having the other battery attached?
Some Acer machines have an external switch for the internal battery, so you could just handle it mechanically instead of convolutedly through software. You'd think Lenovo would have come up with something similarly flexible.

  • My Macbook won't turn on without the power lead in!

So yeah.. basically what it says, one day everything was fine and then the next day I tried to turn it on and it just wouldn't start without it being plugged into the power so I did all the classics and took the battery out and made sure everything looked right and stuff but still nothing without the power lead in!
It's not even liked I have changed anything major-ly. I mean the only thing I've changed is that I've started playing on Starcraft again, which I used to do (don't judge me!) and that seems to have changed something, it might be unrelated, I don't know!
The weird thing though is that it works fine with the lead in until I take it out and then it just turns off. oh and it will sleep with the power lead out but that's all.
    Can you help at all?!

You probably have battery update 1.3 installed unless you fixed it already. See if you have battery update 1.3 installed. It seems to be installed when you update to 10.4.11. You can find it here.
    MacBook/Library/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle
Use get info to check. It is the MacBook Pro update. If it is 1.3 drag it to the trash and then reboot. After you reboot you will be able to emtpy the trash. Once you have done that run software update and it should install Battery Update 1.2. You should also reset the SMC (System Management Controller).
Also the only battery that Apple extended the warranty on is the original core duo batteries. This is from the 1.2 update notice.
+For MacBook and MacBook Pro systems with Intel Core Duo processors, this program extends repair coverage on the battery for up to two years from the date of purchase of the computer.+

  • T440s: disabling internal battery if can't boot

    Hi All,
I just got my T440s a couple of weeks ago. I stupidly ordered it with only 4GB of RAM, thinking that I couple upgrade it myself if neccessary (and it would be much cheaper that way).
Well it seems 4GB definately isn't enough for my needs, so I ordered another 4GB stick. I installed it, plugged the machine in and powered it up. And was met with the tone for a memory error. Probably the module isn't seated correctly, but I suppose it could be faulty.
Anyway, you'll notice I said that I plugged it in before powering up. That means that the internal battery has been reactivated. I can confirm this because it will start (and give me the error) without being plugged in and without the external battery connected. So my problem is, how do I disable the internal battery again to remove or reseat the problem DIMM, since I can't get to the UEFI/BIOS configureation to disable it.
    Please help.
    Solved!

    Glad to hear that!
I also added my 8GB stick before finding out that the internal battery can be disabled in BIOS, luckily it installed without a hiccup for me, but lesson well and truly learned.
You might want to keep the hardware maintenance manual bookmarked or saved for future reference, it has every bit of information you need.

  • How to disable internal battery without a display?

The display on my T440s is dead.  I would like to remove the hard drive before sending the laptop in.  The user guide says to disable the internal battery before moving the hard drive - but this requires access to the BIOS configuration, which cannot be done on an external monitor.
Is it essential to disable the internal battery before removing the SSD?  If so, how can I do this?
    Thanks

  • Thinkpad T440 - no internal battery

After buying a T440 (not throuh lenovo), I realized that it has capability to hold an internal battery. But the item I bought didn't have one. Instead it came with a 6 cell external battery which protrudes in the back. Is there any way I can have internal battery added now? I see that some sites like Amazon are selling replacement internal batteries; can I buy it and install in my laptop? Thanks in advance for your replies!

    Hi,
    You can.
Solution and battery p/ns are the same as on the page below:

  • T440s internal battery

I just got a used T440s and I know nothing of its history.  It has the 6-cell external battery, but no internal battery.  Is this a normal configuration or has the internal battery been removed?
    Thanks

    Hi guys.
Yes, if you look at the list for the T440 and the T440s models, the ones with the internal battery list a Front Battery option. Those without it only list Battery, where you can choose between the 3 or the 6 cell ones.
I almost made the mistake of ordering my model without the internal battery. It was really a stroke of luck I decided to go over the options one final time when I stumbled across these differences. I would have been really sad not to get mine with the Power Bridge functionality.
    Cheers!

  • T440 Internal Battery issue

I have a T440 laptop that suddenly decided it's having an error with the internal battery that shipped with the system (which is a genuine battery, has not been touched/removed and was working fine until this morning).
    The error displaying is:
"The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system."
I updated to the atest BIOS a few weeks ago, have the latest Power Manager and Power Manager driver as of a few days ago. External/removable battery is fine. Any thoughts on how to resolve this, or anyone else having this issue?

    Hi Csubuka,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you facing issue with Charging on your ThinkPad T440.
Have you checked with performing the battery gauge reset through Lenovo power manger application? To proceed with battery gauge reset, open the Lenovo power manager application click on Battery menu and click on Battery Maintenance option and click on Perform Reset.
    Hope this helps.

My ipod touch 4th generation no longer holds it's charge for more than 40mins from full power, think it needs a new internal battery but have no idea how to go about this and am no longer covered by my guarantee. Can anyone advise me on what's best? Thanks in advance

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPod Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

You've already done the two things I would have suggested.
If your Mini has an internal battery then I assume it's a G4. That means you've gotten a lot of good years of service from it, and it's old enough that it's certainly not covered by AppleCare anymore, and it's probably not worth spending money trying to repair it.
You should be able to tear it apart using instructions from ifixit.com to get the hard drive out, and then put the hard drive into a nice USB or FireWire enclosure (I like the ones from Other World Computing, macsales.com) so you can transfer your data to a replacement Mac.
I hope someone has another suggestion for you.

This error is a little confusing.  At first glance it appears to refer to the CMOS/RTC battery but does infact refer to the main battery for the notebook.  Even though the computer states that the battery is at 100% it would be a good idea to begin by verifying that it is in working condition.  I think this is a good first step because while it does show 100% charge, you state the notebook does not work unless it is on AC power.  This document discusses the issue further.
As stated in the document the HP Battery Check will need to be run in order to determine if the battery is faulty.
To perform the battery check perform the following steps and post the result.
Unplug the power cord and turn off the computer.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Press the Esc key immediately when seeing the HP or the Compaq logo screen.
    The Start Up menu appears.
Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics .
Select Battery Test from the list of diagnostic tests.
    Plug in the power cord.
Click Start Battery Test on the Battery Test page.
If your battery fails this test it will need to be replaced.  To get a replacement battery you will need to contact HP Technical Support.  If you are in the US/Canada you can call them at 1-800-474-6836.  If you are located outside of this region you will need to go to HP's support site and after selecting your country/region locate "Customer Support" in the bottom right corner to get the contact information for your region.
    I hope this helps!

  • Can MBP be run with internal battery removed?

I'm trying to isolate a problem which I believe — but am not certain — is to do with the battery, so I'd like to take it out and boot the mac. Is this possible?
My old iBook G4 with the removable battery can be run without it, but can this be done on the MBP with internal battery, or is it needed to route the power supply?
    TIA

    Thanks guys
In fact I have booted the MBP now without the battery in order to test whether that was causing my kernel_task problem (i posted about this in another thread), and it appears not.
Kernel-task is running at over 103%, I'm can't boot at all sometimes, with the machine taking 10 mins to give the login window but then no keyboard input so login is impossible (this also happens in safe mode).
When it does boot (one out of two or three times), it runs fine for about 20 minutes and then things start crashing. I've tried booting of my clone and the symptoms are the same, so its not HD failure.
Bit stumped here, anyone got any suggestions?
(I'm currently posting on my old 2004 iBook G4, slow battered and with a screen that feels like I'm going half blind, but god I love this machine!. As the old saying goes 'they don't make 'em like they used to...' )

  • HP Mini 311 - HP Battery Alert - Primary (Internal) Battery (601) - Error Message at Startup

I have a HP Mini 311-1037NR (Product Number is VBM262UA#ABA).   My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.
When I start up my HP Mini 311 I receive the following message:
    HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.  For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.
    Primary (Internal) Battery (601)
    ENTER - Continue Startup
    Here's are my questions:
First of all, what exactly is the problem here?  From what I have googled, it would appear the problem is NOT my external battery, but my internal battery.  What battery is needing replacement?  Does it have a name?
Second, is there a user guide out there that would assist me with the replacement process that someone can provide a link to or at least send me the page that helps me?  Is there a YouTube video (even better)?
Third, what exactly is the part number of the battery that needs replacement and exactly where do I purchase it (How much $$ does it cost)?  This question is important as I may be able to find out how to replace the battery, but without a way to purchase the replacement battery I'm still dead in the water.
Fourth, my HP Mini 311 just dies when I unplug it.  Will a remedy for the above issue remedy this issue as well?  I really do enjoy using my little HP Mini, but would prefer to have the option to use it without a power cord.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    Hi Tim,
No problem and it's certainly wise to verify an answer.
I'd say you posted your question on the correct board.  It's usually best just to post once on the relevant board.  I do agree that the term 'internal' does cause unnecessary confusion.
Here's a link to your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Yes, I'm certain that the 601 error code refers to your notebooks main battery ( 602 is a failure code for machines that have a secondary storage cell ).  Interestingly, there is no error code generated for a failing rtc battery - or any in built diagnostic test for it, just the usual symptom of the system clock re-setting after each shutdown.
There's also a HP document regarding start-up battery alerts on the following link.

I am getting the same error. Laptop is only 2 years old. On startup, I get the message and the request to press enter to continue, but then I get a low white to gray screen and it does nothing. So I force power off and at this point I don't konw what to do. If it were the external battery, why would this computer not run on the power cord? My Dell laptops will run without a battery, just using the power cord for electrical supply. I recently replaced the power cord, since the one that came with the laptop failed (I understand this is a very common problem for this model).
