T440s triple display (?)

Hello,
My firm will soon be placing orders for the T440s. I'm not sure what model we're settling on but it won't have a touch screen. There was great difficulty attempting to use 3 displays with the T430s and I'm wondering what improvements have been made on the T440s.
During my own testing of the T430s and from reading other users' posts either active video adapters or a specialized docking station had to be used to enable 3 displays.

FWIW, I'm running a T440s with the Ultra Dock and have 2 Dell U2711 monitors connected via DisplayPort (from the dock, of course) and the built-in monitor. It worked great when I first hooked it up.
After it went to sleep, one of the monitors would not display content from a DP connection (DVI and VGA worked). After connecting it to another computer via DP and then back to the T440s plus Ultra Dock everything is happy again. Very weird!

Problems Setting up triple Display

Hi Folks, after some help
Recently tried setting up a triple display set up on Mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 5770 from the single display previously used.
I have 2 new Samsung B1930 monitors connected through Mini Display Port to VGA apple connectors in the 2 Slots and my old Samsung B2430 connected up through the DVI.
What i hoped to achieve is
Left B1930 extended desktop
Middle: B2430 Main screen with Dock etc
Right B1930 Extended Screen
What i have is the left B1930 as the main screen (inc Dock) and the Middle B2430 and righ B1930 as the extension. Is it only possible to extend one way? or is there a way to extend left and right.

Is is possible to Triple Display from the New MacMini

Is it possible to run a triple display on a MacMini with the intel HD 4000 chipset (which according to Intel is triple monitor capable).
I would assume one display would run off the HDMI and the other two from the Thunderbolt Port.
If it is possible three displays, is it possible to daisy chain two MiniDisplayport monitors from the Thunderbolt port. I know it will run one MiniDP but am unsure if it will run 2.

You can use a splitter for one output but yo have top mirror those displays.

T420 - Triple display not working

So, according to this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-76617.html , the T420 I have is supposed to support two external displays as well as the laptop display as follows:
ThinkPad-only Triple Display Configuration:
1st Display: Active ThinkPad display
2nd Display: VGA analog monitor attached to the ThinkPad VGA analog port.
3rd Display: DisplayPort monitor attached to the ThinkPad DisplayPort
However, when I connect both external displays, it will switch off one of the external monitors (the first one connected).
Using display port to HDMI cable for monitor 1, VGA for monitor 2. Both are verified working as external monitors with the T420, just not at the same time.
I've looked through the BIOS and display properties to no avail.
Is this actually possible without a docking station?

Only a laptop with a discrete NVIDIA graphics card, will support those configurations. If you just have the onboard Intel graphics, then I bet you'll only be able to drive two without a dock. With a dock, you still may be able to drive three monitors (including the ThinkPad's LCD).
BTW, I found even with an NVIDIA discrete graphics option, that page you refer to is incorrect (else I have a problem with my docking station). It says you can drive three monitors with "Any combination of the following" when after much trial and error, I determiend one has to be a VGA analog connection.

Triple display on W520

My brother ordered a W520 with the 1920x1080p screen option. He has two Dell 20" (1600x1200) monitors from years ago, which have DVI & VGA connectors.
Can the W520 run in triple display mode, with built in display, one monitor hooked up with VGA cable, and the other monitor hooked up with Displayport to DVI cable?
Or does this require some kind of dock? Or at the very least, can it run on two monitors with the lid closed?

Is it possible to triple display a new macbook pro with retina display?

I'm looking to triple screen a new retina display macbook pro 15".
I have
a desktop iMac
sansung external monitor
soon macbook pro 15" with retina display.
is it possible to connect all 3? ... or at least use my macbook pro as the base (lid closed), and the iMac and Sansun as the 2 externals? please let me know!

Dual/Triple Displays on MacBook Pro 9,1 (Matrox?)

I just picked up a MacBook Pro (Model MD103LL/A) last night and I'd like to hook up two to three 23" LG DVI displays. I'm told the Matrox Dual or Triple Head2Go adapters will work, but there are mixed reviews from Mac owners on newegg and amazon. I'd love to hear from other MacBook Pro users who have used this setup to drive multiple monitors. Also, I'm wondering if a GT650 with 512MBs of memory can handle three monitors.

Got w7 install disc working again, installed everything again, ran apple updates agian, and now windows freezes on boot again. I have a feeling the latest windows iTunes update is the culprit somehow (when my machine bugged out initially that was the only bootcamp related software I updated).

T440s No display issue

Dear All,
I have T440s laptop with no display issue , after press the power button nothing coming but you can see Speaker mute indicator & Microphone mute indicator both are ON but no display , I try to hold power button for 5 second to get both indicators off and try to power on laptop again but that is not happen even after remove the external battery!! I decided to remove the internal battery and connect again after that the laptop getting display and work normally. I need somebody to explain why this happen and also anybody received the same issue?

T440s Extended Display Toggle

My work recently "upgraded" me from an x220 to a t440s. Based on the trackpad alone, I question whether this is really an upgrade, but there are plenty of other threads for that discussion it appears.
My question, which I cannot seem to find an answer to, is this: How do I get two different programs to show on my notebook screen and my attached external display? On my old x220, I'd use fn-F7 to "extend display", which appears to be the same as on the new unit; but once I've done that, I can't figure out how to assign different programs to the two screens. On the x220, it was just fn-space ... is there an equivalent on the t440s?
Thanks in advance for any help, sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I honestly searched for a while.

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Dual Display on ThinkPad T440s.
In ThinkPad T440s you have to use the key Fn+F7 to switch the display, or you can also use Windows key+P to toggle the display and check.

Triple Display layout

No resolution yet on the issue of a white screen on Digital Cinema Desktop Preview, whichever way I configure the displays it happens each time and on each display, it does however play normally when set to desktop preview - Main. Can anyone please help? I feel sure it's an FCP setting but I just can't find it.
I also can't get my Sony HDV deck to appear as an option in the Video Playback list, all HDV options are grayed out with only the desktop previews available. Anyone know how I can run the feed through the deck?

I used to experience the white screen issue that you described with my triple head display setup, but I was able to find a fix!
I'll walk you through a fix:
1. Determine which video card is your "primary" card. To determine this, reboot your Mac. Make a note of which display shows the white screen with the Apple logo. Trace the cable back to the video card installed in your Mac. This video card is your primary card. You may wish to mark it for future reference.
2. Make sure you have two monitors connected to your primary card and your third display connected to your secondary video card.
3. Launch Final Cut Pro. Make sure that the main interface launches and is displayed on one of the monitors connected to your primary video card. For me, my interface launches on the display connected to the primary video card that does NOT display the white screen with the Apple logo on startup.
4. Enable Digital Cinema Desktop Preview. The cinema desktop preview should appear on your display connected to your primary video card that shows the white apple logo on startup.
Everything should work. Now you should be able to drag interface elements like the Browser bin to the third display that is connected to your secondary video card.
In your case you have two identical cards. But what do you do if you have one basic card and one powerful video card? First you need to make sure that your Mac sees the powerful video card as the primary video card. When you boot your Mac, make sure the white apple logo screen appears on one of the displays connected to your powerful video card. If not, follow these steps...
1. Shutdown your Mac.
2. Physically remove the basic (less powerful video card). Don't just unplug the monitor. You have to remove the video card.
3. Boot your Mac with only the powerful video card installed. Note which monitor displays the white logo screen.
4. Go into your display preferences and arrange them. Make the white logo display the one that does NOT have the menu bar.
5. Shutdown your Mac.
6. Reinstall your basic video card into the same slot from which you removed it.
7. Boot your Mac. Note that the white logo screen should now appear on the same monitor in step 3 that is connected to your powerful video card.
8. That's it. Now your Mac should always boot using your powerful video card as the primary display card. You should also be able to use triple head display with Final Cut Pro.

4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
500GB Hard Drive
I have 3 monitors hooked up, one is a 24 inch benQ through mini display with vga and then i have the 21.5 imac and then a 23 inch acer hooked up with an external usb video card usb to dvi. I had this setup before lion was released when i was using snow leopard and it worked perfectly fine, but now with the lion update it does not work the screen just continuiously flickers on and off; i tried swapping monitors and it still doesnt work so it has to do with a possible software issue.
I have updated to the latest drivers, installed restarted and everything i can think of; does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure this is a display and adapter and interface problem, especially when the name(s) of your display(s) show up wrong after sleep.
The Mac uses one display driver that is highly parameterized. The parameters to be used are set by sending a query to the display for its name and capabilities. This query is sent on the secondary digital data channel, and is sometimes referred to as EDID data.
Currently both 20's are recognised as 'vga display' or 'color LCD', no resolution options are available, just what it defaults to (640 x 480)
When the name of the display is not correctly reflected in the name of its Display Preferences pane, that is a direct indication the display-adapter-cable-display part of the chain "dropped the ball" in resounding to the Mac's query for capabilities.
Adapters that do not pass the EDID data through, and displays that do not answer when queried for their name and capabilities are the primary source of problems. For example, TV sets that are not "paying attention" to the secondary data channel, and therefore do not answer the query, drive Mac users crazy.
The query is sent in response to four different events:
• System Startup
• wake form sleep
• cable insertion at the Mac-end (not necessarily at the Display-end)
• The use of the Option-Detect_Displays button in Displays Preferences window

Triple display setup?

I'm building a Digital Audio Workstation system with 3 x 19"
(1280x1024) LCD Display's. Due to a noise-free reasons,
computer is located in another room 15m away. I have VGA Analog Extension cables.
Do you have any solution (suitable graphic card) for 3x analog VGA monitors.
I need a graphic card to feed 3 Analog VGA displays.

The cheap solution would probably be to use a standard dual-head AGP (or PCI-e if you prefer) card,
and get a PCI graphics card to use with the third head. You don't need multiple PCI-e slots just to get
more heads - although you might want to check for card compatibility (it might be wise to stick to all
nVidia or all ATi, at least). I use a single AGP 3Dlabs card for two heads at home, and a PCI GeForce FX5200 for a third head. Obviously the performance of the PCI card suffers (surround gaming won't be
up to Matrox levels), but it doesn't sound like you need that. For this reason, I'm hoping people aren't going to stop producing PCI graphics cards any time soon (multi-head is convenient), but I'm wary everyone is going to transition to PCI-e and leave us multi-headers a bit stranded.
Alternatively, some motherboards with integrated graphics let you use the graphics in combination
with the main slot, which would mean all your PCI slots stay free. There's a new motherboard out
with a PCI-e *and* an AGP slot, plus integrated graphics, which claims five head support (two heads
on each card + integrated at the same time); The Inquirer mentioned it recently. It's quite possible
to do 5 heads with several PCI cards with a much less esoteric setup (or dual-PCI-e), but this might
be easier and certainly perform better than the PCI solution. Windows has had support for up to ten heads for some time, by the way - although some applications get confused with even two.
On the PCI-e front, it should be possible to stick multiple cards in to any multi-PCI-e slot system; you
just need an adaptor between the slots (although I've not seen one). It's entirely a physical adaptor
- the cards should negotiate down to a single link on their own. You don't need an "SLi" motherboard (except for performance - and, obviously, you won't be able to use multiple cards to accelerate a single display in an SLi fashion); any board with multiple slots should do. That's theoretical, though - make sure you can find an adaptor before trusting to that advice!
I hope that helps. Matrox (and nVidia) do good multi-head solutions, but they're quite expensive for what they are; if you have a machine to start with, I suspect a PCI card might be a cheaper upgrade path, and probably wiill do what you want.
Oh - on the other hand, a 15m cable (even good quality) is going to be on the limit (I don't know if you've tried it yet). Matrox do have particularly good RAMDACs, which might help offset the cable length. Have you considered putting together a fanless machine (or even an old laptop or two) and running VNC (or remote desktop)? If you don't need massive performance, you might get better image quality. A second hand laptop with VGA out and a couple of VGA PCMCIA cards might be worthwhile if you can't get the video stable at that range - plus you might get the laptop's own display. That's probably overkill if there's a chance of the analogue signal coping, but I'd be nervous until I'd tried it. You *might* do better with DVI, but you'd be out of spec on the length; at least the TFTs - if they can lock onto the signal at all - ought to clean it up for you when they sample it. Just a thought from the paranoid. :-)

IMac triple display

I have an iMac G5 and 2 old(ish) LCD monitors and I want to hook all three up to make to have the iMac be the center monitor and one of the LCDs on each side. Now the standard DVI port doesn't plug into the iMac because the iMac only takes mini DVI. So what I was thinking was:
1. Take a mini DVI to DVI converter plugged into the iMac.
2. Have a DVI splitter converting the DVI output from the converter into two ports.
3. Plug one of the LCDs into each port

There is no official way to do that with an iMac G5. There is a hack that enables screen spanning on Macs where that capability exists in hardware but was not enabled by Apple.

If you click on the link that shows supported Macs, the G5 iMacs are listed. However, this is unsupported and the description says nothing about it being compatible with Leopard.
Also, there is no way to connect TWO external displays to an iMac. Well, there is a way, but one of those two display will have to a fully functioning computer. Then you can use VNC and this clever program to add a another display.
