T440s, X240 and W540 monitors do not light up when hot docking

Please find original post here....
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T540p-T440p-UltraDock-external-display-issu...
Using Pro Dock with firmware v2.17.000
Using 90W power supplies so this is not a power supply issue
Using updated video drivers so it's not the flickering or spontaneous monitor shutdown issue
Using most up to date BIOS for each model.
The issue, without linking to the other post is this....
Hot dock the machine (lid closed but machine awake) into a Pro Dock with monitors connected and the monitors do not light up.
I'm actually working with a Lenovo rep on this issue and he made me aware of a MS Hotfix (KB2923766) to resolve this issue.  I recommend the hotfix as it has made a big difference however I can still create a state of failure if I dock the machine in between it's sleep timeout and monitor shut off timeout in the power options.
This is the test that makes it fail in more detail.....
Set your sleep timer to something like 60 minutes and then set your turn
off display timer to 30 minutes. Close lid should be set to do nothing.
Then close the lid and wait for more than 30 but less than 60 minutes.
Dock the laptop with lid closed and see what happens
In my test the monitors do not light up.
Not sure right now of the model # for the W540...
T440s M/N:  20ARS1R703
X240 M/N:  20AMS31G03

Thanks for the heads up, but that does not sound like my issue as it seems to apply to the vga port built in to the laptop.  I do not use VGA on the dock either.  I'm going to pass on applying that now given the warnings present in the Readme and the fact that we are about to start a long holiday weekend.
Oddly, the problem seems to be somewhat improving on its own and today I am not running into it as much, although I had the same issue when I first woke the computer up this morning.

I have tried with a wired USB keyboard and mouse using a single screen. Powered up with option pressed. No change.
    Reset SMC  no change

Run the Apple hardware test to see what it tells you. Run the extended test when prompted, which can take awhile.

  • HT4293 I have an Apple monitor model A1316 is using for Windows computer, but I could not adjust the brightness. The monitor is not bright enough when I turned off the lights in my room.

Have you plugged the USB cable into the computer also as the brightness is controlled over USB. If this does not work, you would need the Apple Display Driver for the version of Windows that you are using. The display driver is part of BootCamp software that you may be able to find online

    Try a reset:
    1. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds
    2. Until you see the Apple logo (very important)

  • HT201263 My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine, but when I went back the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. What should I do?

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?

Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

Yes, if you repurchase it you may lose your progress. The exception would be a game that stored all your progress on a server under your ID
If you want to retain your progress you have two choices:
    1. Don't apply the update.
    2. Use your fathers account password to update the game.

sounds more like Bluetooth rather than moue, but w/o knowing w/o posting mac model type/year we... will... not... know... what you have
All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.
Very confused reading what you are trying to tell us.

  • When I close my laptop lid and it goes to sleep so that I can use an external monitor, monitor does not turn on when I hit a key to start laptop

When I use my external monitor, I cannot get it to work after awakening my laptop using any key.  My monitor won't light up although laptop keyboard is backlit showing that it has come out of sleep mode.  Why does the monitor not get the signal from the laptop?

I still cannot figure out why it doesn't always work.  All parameters were met and my bluetooth keyboard is set correctly to wake the computer.  My keyboard becomes backlit, but my LG monitor does not pick up a video signal and is black and my laptop monitor is off.  The only way I can get out is to hold on button on laptop until it shuts down and I can start up again.  This happens on an intermittent basis.  Sometimes it works and other times I get black screens.   I need to know if I can use command F1 to get the laptop to detect the display or is their another key combination to send the signal to the external monitor when I can't see anything because I hate to do a hard shut down to get out of this mode!  Please advise!

  • My macbook pro will not turn on and the charger is not lighting up

please help!! my macbook pro will not turn on at all, when i plug in the charger it will not light up at all, it suddenly shut down when i was using it.

Is there any charge left in the battery?
Press the button on the left side, near the front edge. If no green lights appear, battery is flat. And if the power brick ain't workin' (by virtue of its pilot light not glowing), then it will remain flat and the computer will not power up. If this is the case, maybe try with another power brick of similar size and see if it charges.
Else the logic board is toast and pitbull's on the money.
Either case, my gypsy crystal ball forsees a trip to an Apple Store or a Service Provider in your future...

  • I recently dropped my phone and my screen will not light up. The sound is still working, but no screen. My lock button does not work either. HELP!!

The screen is not cracked, it just wont light up. Is there any way I can get it to come on? The nearest apple store is 3 hours away!

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • Satellite L650-12Z: Led does not light up when connected to power source

My L650 does not show the white light anymore when the cable is plugged in.
The connectors are clean, and the adapter is working.
The laptop does still run on the battery ( when there was still power in it).
Also without the battery, there is no white light indicating that the laptop is connected to the DC.
Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to solve it?

    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately the battery does not charge when connected.
Only when connected with the full battery it is working.
I have measured the adapter with my multimeter and it seems to be working properly.
Like you said, letting a technician look at it would be a smart idea.
I decided to send it to a service center in my city, in about 4 weeks I would have the notebook back they said.
Weird thing for me still is, that around three weeks ago the same happened. Windows said the power was not connected. But after plugging the power in and out a few times it worked again. Maybe this is a symptom of something?
